Man this thing sounds great. I have recorded several tracks with the VP and mine is very quite. Anyone having a problem with noise needs to check there paths and make sure the noise is not being generated some where else. The harmonies are super.

For around a 1000 bucks this is a great peice of equipment. I mean I paid $2500.00 for a pre amp and it does not do for my vocals what this has.

Mine is the VoicePrism Plus with voice modeling; firmware version 1.05. Like all tc stuff, the interface and manuals are excellent. Getting a good sound takes some doing, however, as this process is still in the developmental stage. The presets won't work with everybody's voice, so you have to tweak it to get your sound. Each element in the process has preset configurations, though, which helps a lot. For example, there are vibrato and "rasp" settings for rock, R&B, blues, etc.

Unlike some other reviewers here, mine isn't noisy. I use good mics (such as a Neumann M149) and have a clean signal path to ProTools. I don't normally use the preamp, compressor, or effects, but testing them revealed a fairly high-quality sound, so I wouldn't hesitate to use those things if I didn't already have dedicated devices that already do what I need. (I use a Demeter tube mic pre into a Universal Audio 1176 compressor.) The VoicePrism's compressor and delays seem to be quite good. The EQ is limited, though. (I normally use an Avalon 2055 or Waves or Focusrite plug-ins for EQ.) As long as the gain staging is right, and the wet/dry mix is reasonable, there isn't significant loss of clarity. I mainly bought it for the voice modeling feature which, considering the early stage of this technology, sounds good and works well. I've improved the sound of my own lead vocals quite a bit, and I've used it sucessfully on a (good) singer whose demo I'm engineering. "Spectral", "glottal" (rasp), and "warp" are useful processes that can make a weak sounding voice much more dynamic and "characterful". As noted among the other reviews, there's a limit to the percentage of processing you can add to the signal before it starts to sound artificial. I probably use a setting of about 25% on the above-mentioned processes, leaving the other 75% "dry". More extreme settings can certainly be used for interesting effects, but for the usual commercial sound this device can enhance but will not replace the natural voice. I haven't used the harmony feature much yet, but what I've heard so far is interesting as a special effect, but not very natural sounding. This could simply be a matter of learning how to use it properly, so you should consider the other reviewer's remarks on this particular feature.

I think tc's service is better than a lot of companies in terms of pre-sales, technical support, and repair. I have been using the fireworX, g-force, M2000, and Gold Channel in a University environment for several years, and can attest to the high-reliability of tc gear. That doesn't mean it won't ever go on the fritz (the fireworX developed a short on the output, and we blew out an input on the Gold Channel), but the stuff does hold up remarkably well for being as sophisticated as it is. One disappointment is that I originally contacted product specialist, Jim Bellamy at tc in Westlake Village, CA to see if I could try out a demo unit and was told that none were available. Still, there was the option of buying it at Guitar Center and returning it if I didn't like it, so it's all good...

I use it mainly for original songs in a classic rock style, and I can make my voice sound almost like the singer in Alice In Chains with this thing! I bought it just as the Helicon VoiceOne hit the market, which is what I would have preferred. The VoiceOne has updated voice modeling, more preset storage, and occupies only one rackspace. I didn't need the preamp and effects anyway. Still, I'm pretty happy with the VoicePrism Plus. I've never used the Digitech voice processors, and my experience with Eventide dates back some time, so this is the only one of its kind that I've really used. I don't hate anything about it, and I love the improvement it has brought to my vocals.

While many of the stock presets are noisy, spend a little bit of time tweaking the parameters and you can get harmonies that are to die for.

This is where I have a real problem. I should have visited this site before I purchased the Voiceprism. I sold my Digitech Vocalist Workstation EX on Ebay and now I wish I had it back. This thing is EXTREMELY noisy and for over double the price is not worth the difference. Even using the onboard compression doesn't help much. It has a few more features than the EX but the overall sound quality is just not worth the difference. The only way that I have been able to use it in my studio is to run its output through another effects processor. It would probably be satisfactory in a live setting.

Just wanted to add my 10 cents worth. I was at the NAMM show back in January. At the TC booth they had a guy playing a keyboard (with some sequences) and he was singing to demo this unit. They had about a dozen headphones that people could put on to get a better idea of the output. He did some interesting songs to show off the unit. e.g. Bee Gees, Cool and the gang, raspy growl stuff and others. I have a Digitach Studio Vocalist and I was practically ready to go buy this unit (I haven't test driven one yet). The reviews I've read have definely talked me out of it. I need a quiet unit, that is an improvement over what I have. Thank God for this site.

First Impression- as someone who hates hitting a button repeatedly to change digital values, I as immediatly impressed by the effective use of knobs in the digital interface.
A few hours with the supplemental manual and I was able to navigate the main menus with reasonable coherency (the voice modelling & effects), I still had a bit of difficulty with the interface of generating harmonic intervals but I am sure I will understand it better after a few more hours....
I think the interface is VERY slick, it is very user friendly to navigate through the menus.

It increased my vocal production by at least 100%, it is clear with a polished edge to the sound that allows the vocals to sound expansive and clear
For a small production studio like mine, the diversity of the unit's capability is phenomenal. With onboard compressor/gate/delay/flange/chorus/verb...... the other outboard units I have are freed up for other instruments & effects!
The effects are very dynamic and have great depth. I love the ping pong delay especially....

So far, this unit has been 100% reliable. It is hard wired in my production studio so it doesn't get carted around alot, but I have had absolutely no glitches, probs or inconsistencies.

My production studio produces all genres of music, from folk and country to industrial dance and I find the unit is useful in this wide range of applications. I would definately miss the unit if it weren't in the studio anymore! I love it's ability to expand and clarify the vocal tone. I also have had success using it for SFX with narratives. I would definately bring it to a live gig and run it inline from my mic. I have the digidesign Studio Vocalist and this unit is capable of everything it does and so much more! I actually have not used the Studio Vocalist once since the VoicePrism + arrived. The only I thing I wish it had were parallel channels so I could run multiple vocals through separate channels, but of course I understand that would be reflected in its price.

Using with pre-recorded vocals (my own and other voices). Unlike some other reviews of the product, I find mine is quiet. Harmonies sound realistic if mixed back behind the lead voice. The voice modeling (vibrato, resonance etc.) seems to be most natural if the amount settings are less than around 45%, otherwise it sounds affected (that could be useful in some styles of music i guess). The growl and resonance in combination can make an average guy sound big and more powerful. Effects are fine - good quality with basic editing.

My only use was to be vocals. I am not a very technical person, so
I used my keyboard to create my harmonies. I sent my lead vocals
into the prism from pro tools. The manual settings were just not

I called the company and they were terrible. I did not have a
couple of settings right to hear my keyboard trigger the midi
information. The guy was short with me from the get go and finally
said to send it in for repair. I knew nothing was wrong with the
machine and I told him that. I hung up and called back in hopes to
get someone else to lend some simple instructions. The assured me that the tech guy knew his stuff. Then I talked to a third guy and
he said the same. After the conversation I fooled around and figured
out what I was doing wrong. If I had of listened to these folks i
would have wasted shipping and time.
