i use this with a mij jaguar, a ton of effects and a laney vc30. this pedal drives nicely, though with not much dynamic range. the lowest settings drive my amp too fair as it is, so if you want only a slight breakup, this is probably not for you. but for mid level drive tones this thing is pretty alright. it's fairly muddy, and no tone or eq means you'll have to change your pickup/amp/outbourd settings for this. but still. i've not tried the bigger version (with tone and presence control i beleive), so yeah. but a nice cheap decent OD pedal.

i play mostly noise pop... my bloody valentine, wire, sonic youth, etc. i have 4 fuzz/dist pedals one boost and this... which is really my only OD... so i use it when i need it. i think i'd prefer something lighter like a crowther hotcake... i have enough gain as it is... of rthe lighter od stuff i think that would be better.
but i neat pedal otherwise.

very easy to use, 2 controls gain and level which can be used to dial in a variety of classic british sounding overdrives.

i use either an ibanez AS93 or a fernandes ravelle elite. through a ibanez ts7 into the JOHN BULL JR n then to a boss NS2 noisegate . and then going into a 100watt Fender FM212R solid state combo amp.
this thing sounds awesome, from smooth warm overdrive to searing leads and chunky rhythms this little box nails them all.
it can even get heavier sounds if used with a booster or cascaded with another overdrive. i've been using it with a ibanez TS7 tubescreamer before it to provide a overall boost for lead work and solos. this creates a little bit of noise but thats onli from the TS7 . overall the john bull jr is very quiet no buzzin or hum unless u seriously crank the gain.
i read review of its bigger brother the "john bull overdrive" saying it was muddy and too bassy. the Jr series version doesnt hav these problems or if it does i cant hear them with my setup.
