Input jack, depth & speed knobs, sep/rev switch, two output jacks. Some users seem to mystified by the sep/rev switch. In "rev" mode both outputs sound identical. In "sep" mode the side jack sends the modulated sound and the top jack sends the straight sound. This allows stereo chorus to two different amps or two different mix channels.

Sound Quality : 9
I like the sound a lot. I use it sparingly for a bit of variety on little arpeggiated sections or on the occasional full chord strum. Never for single note lines. Never for extended chord patterns. Does the Leslie speaker effect very well in my opinion. Very slight drop in volume I think which can be compensated by running in stereo. Brighter sound which I like, but here again, do whatever you want in a stereo set-up.

Reliability : 9
Old and still works great. Stomp switch is somewhat vague but responds to a bit of authority. I don't recall this "problem" with the first one I owned. Case is so sturdy it feels heavy next to a Boss.

If you can get one of these for significantly less than the famous Boss and Ibanez units, jump on it immediately! Beautiful "analog" sound. I gave away my first one with a little Hohner electric piano that I sold (sounds good with keyboard too). Tried to buy the pedal back, but it was gone. Finally replaced it this year. Throw it in the coffin, I'm going to try to take it with me!

It is _easy_. What I mean is that you can easily get a full, deep sounding chorus out of it with just. There are only 3 dials, a speed, depth, and rev./sep. toggle. I never had a manual for it.

Sound Quality : 10
I have had this as long as I have been playing guitar, and even used to use it with my acoustic many mood ago (3 years). It sounds like no other pedal I have ever used.

My Setup : Fender 70's USA Strat (s-s-s) > DOD Fx69 Grunge > Boss Heavy Metal > Tokai Chorus > Marshall Shredmaster > Vox Pathfinder Amp.

I also generally use the sub-output on the top to drive another Zenta amp, through my Marshall Pedal as a tone/drive control.

For ages I followed the traditional idea of having the modulation fx (delay, phase, flange and chorus) before the distortions, but after much experimentation, i found that i could really get the most out of the Tokai by "flanging the fuzz".

There are 2 ways I use it...

1. normal chorus (rather than tremolo thing) & max speed and depth : this produces a really thick and warm chorus, much like Kurt Cobain uses on Come As You Are. This sounds great clean, and when you hit the fuzz it sounds very sonic.

2. normal chorus & min speed and max depth : this makes it sound like a really slow phaser or flange with distortion, and makes solos sound really cool!

...but by switching between rev./sep. you can get some weired noises from that, which are un-explainable. if you want to know, download Yoko & Hiro by Blur, it sounds like that effect. Quite annoying really.

I never really notice much noise, mainly because i have never owned a first hand fx pedal, and i use cheap cables and power adapters. so it doesnt really bother me. although, on the "other" setting, you hear a deffinate volume drop when you turn it on/off. i need to look into that.

Reliability : 10
yeah, i think so. it is build like a tank. good solid metal case. the dials are very tight so no breaking them, or damaging them when playing. i have brought it to most practices, and its been thrown at many drummers and was a doorstop for 6 months. my only problem was when the battery clip came off, which i fixed.

for what i play, alt. rock, emo punk, grunge, noise-core... it is excellent. i havent used a better modulation effect.

i would serriously try and buy another before i lose this. i might even have another copy made because i doubt they are still made.

an excellent pedal.

super easy - 2 knobs and a selector for sep and rev (dunno what this means). Sep. is a vibrato-whammy thing Rev. is our good ol' chorus

I've owned a vintage boss ce1 and i preffer the tokai for more deeper tone and versatility. sounds really great.

I play space rock and use lots of effects - the tokai is a great pedal for any style, but specially useful if u play jazz or blues. use it with an overdrive for a great sound. for 36 bucks, a jem.
