Ease of Use : 10
Esay to get a good sound from this unit, I need it for gentle sweeps of medium intensity, so I dont really go to extemes with it. Its a straightforward unit, simple to work. Depth, Speed and Feedback control. I got it secondhand, no manual (but you wouldnt need one anyway...)

Sound Quality : 8
I use a modified early production Yamaha Pacifica, maple neck + fingerboard, very solid and welll finished guitar. A bargain at 95 British pounds. I changed the shitty pickups to a Dimarzio humbucker in the bridge position, a Dimarzio single coil in da middle and there's a Jackson active humbucker for the neck position. The rest of the guitar is stock, I dont feel the need for further alterations.
Amplification is cared for by a Laney LC15 R, a little gem, and highly acclaimed. Bought for 115 quid secondhand, best class A valve amp on the market if you're not flush but need the real deal.
I also run a Yamaha DSD 100 delay (no info to be found on this jobbie?!?!) The Tokai sounds fine, very nice , I use it for medium intesity, gentle sweeps and it does that very well. It is a bit noisy, and the high end is a bit harsh to my ears, but nothing to worry about. It would benefit from a treble roll off/tone control.
Sounds great clean or overdriven, I use it for funky choppy riffs and stonerrock type stuff. It does what it says on the tin!

Reliability : 8
Well, hard call this one... I think Tokai produced these in the mid 80 ies, so its about 20 years old. The box is plastic(mmmmmm), but mine is well used/stamped on and after all those years it is still intact. Quite heavy for a plastic unit, the first series they did was all metal, obviously a better choice, and this seems to have been Tokai's way to cut production costs. Nonetheless, sturdy enough if you dont treat it like an idiot. Giggable for sure

Customer Support : No Opinion
Nver dealt with Tokai, the unit is stock, cant really expect company support after all these years. If it dies I'll try to get it fixed for sure.

Overall Rating : 8
I just diddle around, playing stonerrock, bits of funk, bits of progressive(....!!!) stuff, just noodling a lot really. Been playing for about 15 years, been in bands, done acoustic stuff, all sorts. You dont see many Tokai pedals around in Holland, so it would be hard to replace if I lost it. I like it because its different. It sounds fine and it makes a change from those Boss things or Rolls-Royce priced boutique effects. I used a Zoom phaser before...on that 509 modulator thing...utter crap. To be avoided at all cost. The Tokai is way better. As metioned earlier, a tone control would be nice. (how about a phaser stompbox with 3 band eq folks?)
