I use a Epiphone G-400 gothic, going into a Laney HCM65 amp & use other distortion pedals like DOD DeathMetal(my fave, very cool), Deucetone Rat(sweet), Marshell Jackhammer(o.k) & Rocktron Rampage(o.k, but the topend sustain is f**ked).
Although The Tokai Distortion ZII's overall sound or tone is similar to many others (Boss etc), It's capable of a wide range of distortion sounds, from soft blues fuzz to harsh shred.
It does'nt have the bottom end of some pedals (DOD etc), but you can get some cool tones out of it if you tweak it alittle.
I think what sets this pedal apart from all the rest of the boxes out there is the 'tone' knob, because when you turn it, something happens! the tone of the distortion changes pretty drastically, & you have to turn it with real care to get the 'sound' you're looking for. It goes from bassy muffled fuzz (all the way to the left), scooped heavy/thrash metal crunch (anywhere around the middle or center), to really harsh topend shred (all the way to the right) without destroying you're eardrums with feedback like the DOD DeathMetal pedal does!
It just sounds cool!

What I like about this pedal is it's ability to cover a wide range of fuzz & distortion tones.
I would try & find a replacement if it were stolen (heaven forbid).
I've only been playing guitar for about 6 months now & I mostly play Heavy/Death/Doom metal, so I like my distortion!
