Ease of Use : 10
This pedal is quite remarkable actually.
You can dial in this unit to suit any amp circuit with the frequency & bright knobs, The level & drive knobs work like a tube screamer, but they have more range as there is a bit more signal boost & more drive available.
I have & had many variables of the tube screamer type pedals, TS-9&10, had a TS-10 modded to 808 spec, fulldrive, bixonic, etc.
This pedal, is the one I'm keeping, & is by far the best Overdrive I've ever had.

Sound Quality : 10
This one is the white one with Z-II on the rubber foot pad.
Out of all the overdrives I've ever had, this is the sweetest & juiciest of all.
Although sweet & juicy is usually reserved to describe taste, I don't know how eles to describe the way this OD responds to your playing & the sound of it.
However, to get the goods you have to fine tune the Frequency & bright EQ knobs to the amp you are using as this is where the magic of this pedal comes to play.
The thing with most tube screamer type pedals, they work well for some amps, & others they actually don't sound good, at least to my ears they don't.
For example, my TS series pedals sounded down right nasty in a newer Fender blues deluxe, but sounded great with an old Bassman or Marshall. & there was nothing the tone knob could do to make it work better with that amp.
The Tokai's frequency knob with the bright knob allows you to dial it to any amp, I used it with many amps at my disposal & it works great with all of them when dialed in.
The typical mid hump can be dial out effectively, & the bottom end will not be reduced when the pedal is activated.

I also notice that there is more depth, or "air" or a type of subtle sag to the drive when used sparingly.

The way I use it mostly is into a cranked amp that is held in tap by an Ultimate Attenuator.
I use the level as a level boost, & the drive at the sweet spot, which varies from amp to amp depending on the ammount of drive the amp produces.
This yeilds a very sweet dynamic overdrive that will clean up like a tube screamer, but isn't dependant on the amp use for it to sound great.
I have a Carl Martin Combinator that I use for different types of distortion & overdrive sounds so I am able to switch them in on the fly & I compared this pedal with all of my Tube screamer type pedals, & this one just sounds the best.

For a pedal that says Metaldriver on it is shure surprised me on how great an overdrive this thing realy is.
You can get much more gain with it if you run into a clean amp, but it doesn't sound near as good as when it's run the way I describe, as the drive knob can take you into mudd territory, & the dynamics of your playing realy don't come to full imact unless the amp is running hard.

Reliability : 10
This pedal is very reliable so far.
If I needed to fix it I'm shure a good tech could as the company making these is now no more.
If it broke or went missing, I would get it fixed or look desperately for a replacement, as the differences between this overdrive & other tube screamers type overdrives, though subtle, they are clearly a nicer, sweeter, tone that reacts like a tube screamer, but with more tonal options.
I have to frankly say it just sounds much better. to my ears anyways.

NONE
I believe this pedal to be from the mid or late 80's & they are no longer in buisness making pedals

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal shines at giving the player a very dynamic blues or classic rock tones at your disposal, without being dependant on the amplifier to sound decent.
The pedal does sound best into a driven tube amplifier though.

Despite the name Metaldriver, it's not a pedal for modern over the top tones unless you have a higher gain amp like a Marshall already distorted & using this pedal to push it more, but it's not the best for that either if you lust for extreme tight crunch or chunk as this pedal give a bit of sag in the midbass that suite classic sounds better.
I use a different pedal combination for the real heavy over the top sounds.
For blusey classic rock overdrive tones, the Tokai Metaldriver Z-II is quie remarkable indeed!
For $30.00 this pedal is not just a bargain, but a steal!!!
