Ease of Use

This pedal is pretty straight forward. I purchased the CP-1 to add clarity to my sound and use it for boost and sustain purposes, so the volume and sustain knobs are rather self-explanatory. I started off by dialing in the suggested combinations from the product leaflet and then went from there. I'm playing riff-centric rock and roll so clicking on the Tonerider CP-1 for riffs and guitar harmonies gives my playing extra clarity and consistency, just need to find that sweet spot on the volume (if it's too high you'll get some crazy squeals when you're not playing).
Minus points for no ease to add/change batteries. This pedal is actually the reason I've switched to a daisy-chain because unscrewing the casing is too much of a pain.

I play a variety of guitars (SGs, Les Pauls, Epiphone Dot, Strat) through any number of amps (Laney, Randall, Peavy, Fender, Marshall) with a pedal setup that includes an overdrive, distortion, eq, delay, chorus and first link in the chain is my CP-1. If the sustain or volume knobs are too high there will definitely be noise, hiss, or the occasional squeal, but if you spend the time to dial in the pedal with the rest our your rig you'll end up getting the tone you're trying to achieve. One complaint is when I'm going for a lead and have my eq and overdrive pedal already on and then click the compressor, there's a large amount of feedback when I don't play the strings (I understand that there's a lot of output creating the feedback, just wish it wasn't there).

I've never had a problem with this pedal. I gig in a touring band that always relies on backline amps at shows so having my unique pedal setup is really important to my sound. The CP-1 is a valuable part of that tone and the sturdy casing, on/off switch and jacks are all solid.

The guys at Tonerider are really helpful, answering the phones themselves to field questions from concerned customers. In addition to taking their time to answer my questions, they've also asked for customer point of view to know what they can improve.

I think normal compressor users are going for a funk thing, but I purchased this pedal to brighten my leads, level off inconsistent strums and boost my single-note riffs to compete with barre chords and crunchy bass; this pedal does all those things.
I've been playing the guitar for 9 years and have never owned another compressor, but I would purchase again if necessary because the CP-1 crystalizes my quick 16th-note riffs, ringing every hit equally.
I live in China which is different than North America because no one owns their own amps so pedals become very important to keeping consistent tone. Even if I had an amp, I would still use the CP-1.
If the pedal had easy battery access and a little more control on the volume knob (sometimes it seems like it goes from quiet to outrageously loud when you move the knob just a little bit) it would be invaluable.
