It is easy to get great sound of as long as the volume doesn't get too loud.

Although noisy on higher settings, it was unique in that it utilizes an opto-isolater(led/light sensitive diode) to clamp the signal giving it an incredible "liquid" sound quality for its $39.00 price rivaling anything made. It is gray, in color, 9 volt, the size of MXR, I purchased 2 of them in 77-78 and used them in studio sessions for years, then traded them for an ex-pensive rack-mount eventide which didn't sound as good. I've been looking for one for years.

There's little to break...I was always suspicious of the price but they never failed

In attempt to build my own with the help of an electronics friend of mine in the studio...I called Univox in 1980 to ask about the proprietary opto-isolater and how to get one. They sent me 6 of them at no charge as well as some other reistors and a circuit diagram and wished me luck. I used the shell of an old "Octavia" that I sacrificed as a box but could never get it to work. Great Service.

Play everything but like Metal, Rock, fusion, and Alternative. If the S/N ratio could be cleaned up a little or the design converted to a/c power it would be worth its weight in gold. One of my best friends, Hadley Hockensmith (Neil Diamond's guitarist) got my last one and claimed it was unrivaled at any price. e-mail me if you find one>>>please

Easy... Volume and Compression. That's it.

It is, and sounds like a 70's analog compressor. The as the compression gets real heavy the volume gets disproportionately higher. Little tone coloration, and no click from the switch.

I've had this thing since about '78 and used it plenty. Still works 'no worse than when new' ;)

Y'know, I've had this thing for close to twenty years. It still works and the rubber from the bottom of the case hasn't even rotted out yet. That can't be said for the other old effects I've got. It sounds ok, and does the job. No thrills or spills to mention.
The reason I'm writing thie is, if you ever see a used one, you may consider grabbing it if the price is right. It's a decent compressor.
