Ease of Use : 10
the unidrive has two knobs, one for the range of the footpedal, the other one for gain/distortion in six stages.
edit?upgrade?manual? this is a pedal from 197x and it works!
i give it a "10", but look out for its its enormous size (can't stand on my amps easily) and the unbelieveable boost it does - care with THAT axe , eugene...

Sound Quality : 10
i use it with hiwatt, fender, wem, selmer, boogie, trutone amps and all of my guitars. it delivers XTREME preamp kicking. i wouldn't let it go through any pedalplugged behind the unidrive, because i think it would burn the electronics. nice with wah or modulation in front.

the unidrive has a delicate midrangey tone, in the last two stages slipping into an also midrangey distortion. it definitively sounds like the "whole lotta love" tone, but thre's no guarantee that this pedal was used.

it's the sonic version of a mule kicking Your bones. it's great to add some REAL volume boost using the pedal in concert.

Reliability : 8
it worked nearly 30 years for the guy that sold it to me (many regards, joe!).

i dunno, but i think univox doesn't exist anymore?

Overall Rating : 10
if You get Your hands on one, try it! it adds nice midrangey textures, a huge volume boost and nice VERY musical bits o' fuzz. it's one of my favourite pedals for kicking the front of my tube amps.
maybe it's similar to the treble booster in the roland af-100 bee-ba, but with much huger ba??$. (sorry...)

Very easy to use, as well as being enormous in size. It could pass for a Peter-Built 18 wheeler's gas pedal (And I thought Mutron pedals were big, guess again!!). It rocks back and forth, similar to a wah or volume pedal. It also has 6 overdrive adjustments using the Input Level Dialer. Each setting clicks into place and increases the amount of volume and overdrive. The Pedal Range knob adjusts the pedal's sweep/volume ratio. I have capacitor dates of Jan 1970, which is when this pedal was manufactured. I know that Hendrix had this pedal in his gig bag, and I've seen very rare footage of it sitting on the front during the Isle of white or some similar show.

When I first heard this thing I thought it to be just a Volume pedal and I complained to Al about how it wasn't working. Now "Al Sevilla" of Al's Trading Post" who is one of the foremost Vintage experts told me it was one of the oldest Overdrive units made "This thing is what Hendrix used at the Record Plant. I know this because I was there working at the Record Plant during his last recording sessions."

I thought he was kidding, but then I saw his photo's (He has a picture of himself with nearly every known artist in music). I also found out that he was 100% correct when it became public knowlege that Hendrix used the Uni-Drive was used during certain recordings.

Well I probably upset Al when I took it back anyway. I thought it was simply a volume pedal and nothing more. It was almost a year later that I'm fumbling through a Led Zeppelin book and looking at one particular picture I notice something familiar on the stage floor. It was that Uni-Drive thing I took back. "Son of a @B!@#$" "What have I done ??" Luckily Al still had the thing, but he wanted just a little more for hassling him so much. I bought it and thanked him for selling it to me again. Bringing it home, I finally realized how it worked. You see, I was playing through a cheesy clean amp and a Fender Telecaster when I first heard it. Since then I aquired a Plexi and a Les Paul. After cranking my amp I noticed the Uni-Drive was changing the tone. YES this thing sounds incredible indeed. It is apparently made for high volume Marshalls and it brings the Marshall into the Mysterious Zeppelin Zone. "That's how Page got that sound. First he started with the Sola Sound shit and then moved on to this thing. It drives the front end of a Marshall to the original Metal crunch you hear on "Whole Lotta Love." It's perfect and non-fuzzy. Just pure Mac Truck Overdrive at its vintage best.

Again I thought that it was a newer pedal. I thought circa 79' or 80' but it has the cap dates for Jan 1970. This thing is very rare and I suggest you keep the hype down because I want another without paying the Vintage Fortune 500 too much.

This thing could be used as a Car Lift. No, I don't think it will break anytime soon

This thing has 3 high output transistors and will rock your world as well as growing hairs on your chest. Drives your amp like a freightrain or better yet a frieghtrain on steriods.
