Compression is a subtle effect unless you are squashing or chicken picken. This pedal is designed with more subtlety in mind, specifically for pop or rock, not for country. You could use it for hillbilly music, but it shines best in creating sustain for lead licks and evening out the highs and lows for more consistent tone. You could use it for blues too, but not being able to adjust the attack kinda limits the versatility when it comes to heavy compression tricks. It also has noise supression making it very quiet and can be used as a boost pedal to get more gain from your amp or other pedals on your rig. Really, it is a subtle effect that will tighten up an otherwise messy setup and give you a much more professional sound.

The customer service is fantastic, these guys charge a lot for their pedals so they are willing to stand by their product.

Ok, you have to know what this pedal is best at before you purchase it. If you use it in the manner I mentioned above it will be well worth the purchase price. If you are looking for a country pedal or a squasher, move on. In my opinion, this was a better purchase than the Keeley because it adds noise suppression/clean boost, its just as tansparent with your signal as a Keeley, and if you want to shape your signal it also has tone control. It doesn't have true bypass, but Bob Weil uses extremely high quality parts for the buffer. I give it a 9.5 because it needs an attack control. My 10 rating is really a 9.5 rounded up to 10.
BTW I have been playing for about 10 years and would consider myself to be somewhere between a pro or semi professional guitarist. I know good tone when I hear it.
