Very easy. Volume and Attack (amount of fuzz). Unlike some pedals, it is possible to get a virtually clean sound with minimum 'attack'.

I use this with an unusual Fender Telecaster (it has a locking trem and two humbuckers with coil-tap - never seen or heard of another like it apart from a photo of Frank Black playing one!) and a Laney LC-30 valve amp along with several other stomp boxes. The sound this box produces is phenomenal. I disagree that it is a one trick pony - with low attack settings it is possible to get a really warm, non-fuzzy overdrive, at about 2/3 attack it produces a fairly traditional 60s fuzz sound with plenty of bottom end. At maximum attack you get a slightly compressed but unbelievably beefy fuzz sound, like a fuzz-face but much fuller and better balanced and with lots of sustain. When added to an already overdriven amp (as, in my opinion, fuzzes are meant to be played) the sound is even better, quite Hendrix-y.
Another good thing is that this pedal really responds to changes in guitar volume and tone. You can easily have the pedal on maximum fuzz and just use your vol knob to get a good rhythm, or slightly fuzzy, sustained 'clean' sound. The pedal produces virtually no noise, even on maximum attack.
My only gripe is that, so far, I haven't been able to make it work well with a wah (Crybaby) - with the wah in the heel position you lose alot of volume. Maybe the batteries in my wah are low (I hope that is the reason!)

Haven't needed to yet. Heard Voodoo Lab are very good though.

I was looking for a fuzz that would give me a beefy Hendrix-y sound. This definitely does the trick. The only other fuzzes I've tried are two fuzz-faces (a new re-issue red one and an old silver one), a Dunlop JHS fuzz (too reserved), a Solasound Tonebender (totally different type of sound so no possible comparison), the two Boss fuzz pedals (both awful) and my cheesy Companion Fuzzbox (read my review!) I think the Bosstone is a superb pedal - quite versatile, very powerful, and cheaper than most. I'd like to know how the Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz compares though...

2 knobs - Volume and Attack (Fuzz). Very easy to use. Set your desired volume and then play with the Attack knob until you've dialed in the proper amnount of fuzz. No indicator light, which can be a problem for a fuzzbox during live gigs, but the sounds this pedal delivers more than make up for the lack of a little red light. Input and output jacks are at 12 o'clock, which I prefer.

This is a reproduction of the Jordan Bosstone, which I have never hears...who cares. This pedal delivers a great fuzz tone, slightly compressed (but not "nasal") and excellent tone, despite the absence of a tone knob. Mids are only slightly scooped, so the sound has good depth to it. Very little noise when it's on and true bypass when it's off. I play humbucking guitars (modified Tele and a Les Paul) into the Bosstone into Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus (see my review) into a Fender Vibrolux Reverb amp and love the pedal's tone with both guitars.

I am the rhythm guitarist in a gigging blues band and use this pedal for som rhythm work and the few solos I play each night. The rhythm fuzz adds wonderful grit to our band's sound (one other guitar, harmonica, bass, drums) and the lead fuzz cuts through the mix and let's me be center stage. As probably most of you have, I've tried an enormous number of fuzz boxes, looking for "my sound". This is it. In hindsight, nothing else has come close. The Bosstone is kinda like Danny Gatton (no, he didn't use one); he was the greatest unknown guitar player. Similarly, the Bosstone is, in my opinion, the greatest unknown fuzz box. play mostly blues and it serves me well with both Rhythm and lead parts.

Very Easy to use. One knob is volume and the other is attack (fuzz). Tinkering around with the knobs yield many interesting and complex Fuzz tones.

There are seemingly 2 schools of thought about distortion. One school is turning a tube amp up to ten and letting the tubes do the work. The other school deals with a dedicated group of users who swear by distortion pedals. I fit into the first catagory as I always overdrive vintage Marshall amps to get distortion. In honesty I've only owned about 4 distortion pedels in the last 10 years (2 tube screamers, a DOD American Rock, and an original fuzz face). After buying a Strat '62 reissue, I needed a great fuzz to put in front of my Plexi Marshall. At the Music store, I auditioned at least 8 Fuzz boxes. Some were lame like the Jimi Hendrix fuzz (a real bummer). Others were super high gain like the Boss fuzz. The new Dunlop fuzzes do not sound anything like the originals so they were out unless I sent it away for a modification. The Bosstone was the first I tried out and I instantly liked its vintage character. It has an upper-mid range bite that cuts through. It can also deliver high amounts of fuzz. This fuzz is very musical, dynamic and crisp unlike a couple other boxes I tried out. I believe that this pedel could use a tone knob due to some amps character to be trebily. This pedel is super.

If you are a fuzz fan, give this pedal a try. It is a rich and distinct tone that will take you to the 60's and beyond. I'm not too familiar with this company, but based on what I heard from other players, they design and manufacture GREAT stuff at affordable prices.

Well, it has two knobs, "Volume" and "Attack." That seems to be par for fuzzes, one knob for Volume/Level, one for Gain/Fuzz/Attack/Whatever. Pretty intuitive.

This is a clone of the old Jordan Bosstone. For those of you who ahven't ever seen one, the Jordan was a small box that plug straight into the guitar (then the card into it), it had two little dials for th same controls as on this pedal. The sound is pure 60's fuzz. Very harmonically-saturated (eh, couldn't think of a better way to say it). The fuzz sounds very compressed, very midrangy. Think "Spirit in the Sky" (that was actually recorded through a torn speaker though). That's about it, it sounds great, but it's a one trick pony. I do find used with an overdrive pedal, it can provide the extra harmonics and midrange to simulate a vintage Marshall some.

Voodoo Labs uses premium parts in their pedals. The pedals themselves are built to a compromise, most parts (pots, jacks) are soldered right to the board (that makes manufacturing quicker and easier), but the parts that are used are by Switchcraft, Carling and other legendary companies.

Josh Fiden of Voodoo Labs postes and responds regularly on the Guitar Forum here at Harmony Central. That says alot about him for me. But I have yet to have a problem with my pedal and can't comment on their Customer Service.

I like it. It's very vintage. It's not my main fuzz, I find the compressed tone is limited. So, I might not buy a new one if this is lost, but I'm not about to give this one up.

The Bosstone is a stomp box with two knobs. It couldn't be any easier to use. The knobs are aptly labeled Volume and Attack. The only reason I didn't give this pedal a perfect 10 in this category is because of its manual. The manual is brief and doesn't include any information on suggested settings or this pedal's predecessor, the Jordan Electronics Bosstone.

The Bosstone delivers very nasty fuzz! The first time I placed this pedal between my Strat and Groove Tubes Soul-o, I was stunned by the amount of fuzz that hit me. It is a total blast to play through! The best way I can describe its tone is like a Fuzz Face but much bigger, more compressed, and more out of control.
The pedal is extremely quiet when not in use thanks to the True Bypass Switching. I have been using carbon batteries with the pedal so I cannot comment on its tone with a wall wart adapter. The jacks, knobs, and switch seem well constructed and do not make any noise.

The president of the company, Josh Fiden, is extremely informative. He has contributed a good bit to the Harmony Central Guitar Forum and related Usenet newsgroups. He even e-mailed me with the information I felt the Bosstone's manual should have contained.

The rating for this section is difficult for me to answer. For what the pedal does, it is perfect. For the small price I paid, it is an unbelievable value. However the Bosstone is a one trick pony.
The Bosstone is ideal for over-the-top vintage fuzz in your face. It is not the pedal I would use to add a little grit to a clean tone. However I would use this pedal to add huge fuzz to overdriven power tubes.
I might not use this pedal for most of my playing. But when I am feeling dirty or want to blow the house down I will stomp on it, grin, and take a wide stance.
