Ease of Use : 10
i have used mine, two of them actually for two years. volume and attack. all good sounds everywhere. very loud pedal.

Sound Quality : 10
does not give a huge low end like my OCD but sits better in a live mix because of that. also i have two pedals with different cap values (stock) voodoo labs really worked hard on this pedal. both sound lovely. with the volume and attack strait up (12:00) i can play whole songs going from slight OD to sweet sustaining lead with my volume knob. no other pedal cleans up like this. no other. i rarely dime the attack knob as it has plenty of sustain at 1:00. i play semi-hollows with p-90's into a clean fender tube amp. this is my all time favorite pedal. been at it 28 years

look for one that has the switch showing no threads. they did make them for a while with the switch mounted to the board. and it's not as nice a pedal. that being said, my all time favorite pedal. and iv'e
had, and still have fulltone, keeley, original jordan pedals, ibanez, ross and on and on. all of them nice peices. this is the most volume sensitive ever. and my alltime favorite pedal. been playing since 1978. i just wanted to show my appreciation for the pleasure they've given me.

Two knobs, volume and attack.
Do not act as a booster... With attack all down you don'ear a thing.
volume is as in all voodoo lab pedal. Really really powerful!
I use volume max to 9 o'clock, max a little more.
No led, as voodoo early model. A problem if you do not put attention to it.
How attack works?
Simplest. a low attack give you a warm sound cream as an overdrive, great harmonix and low freq, quite good the touch response.
Very similar to the Voodoo overdrive model at this sets too.
Moving up the attack knob you notice harmonics on harmonics summed to your signal. You notice too the classic decay of your pow signal as in all fuzz, add noise (not so many as you can think) and also notes still remains clearly distiguibles. All. From low to high. Really good.

Sound Quality : 8
As suggested in the previous question moving the attack knob you get your sound.
I use a ten-eleven o'clock position of the knob to obtain a blasting overdrive, or a 'to nine' sets to have a good creamed and harmonic detailed fuzz 'storsion.
Also use the 'to nine' position in addiction to a 'not so clean' booster (Sole Pressure from Hao) to pump up sound for solos or one string line sounds.
Using it with a Yamaha Valstate 80 sounds great!

Reliability : 7
It's great to have a different tone on your distorsion. You'll like it if you like the blasts that Voodoo Pedal have to your signal.
No more things to say.

I was looking for a fuzz. This is a great fuzz. I play with my band and I like to experimenting with a great variety of distorsion tones.
I like this pedal because it's rich of harmonics summed to the sound.
The sound it bumps out is a vintage fuzz very cool to my ears, so I like the richest creaming of variety I can give to my riff.
At high volumes it blasts! Deep in the things you can get from your guitar. A suggestive sustain effect too.
Combined with Sole Pressure from Hao you can enjoy with a really big signal in your notes, especially from the low freq.
The only things I should say it's that probably this pedal it's not so versatile. But I don't know if exists a versatile fuzz. A fuzz is made to make fuzzy sound. It does.

two knobs, volume and attack... with the attack knob rolled down it acts more like a rich, warm overdrive... attack knob up and you get some great fuzz... no LED though...

sounded great in front of my mig 50, fender hrdx, ampeg v4b... tele w/duncan hb, 335 w/p90... first in line in combo with tubescreamer(keeley mod), budda zenman, bluesdriver(keeley mod), rat, or alone, it doesn't disappoint. like i mentioned above, great overdrive when volume is up and attack is down at 3-5 o'clock position, buzz saw at 11 o'clock... true bypass

i've had this for almost two years now and no problems...

The "discontinued" Voodoolabs bossTone has a Volume & Attack knob, does not get any simpler than that! g from vintage crunch distortion to buzzsaw fuzz!!!!

I use a Gold top w/ P 90's, Tele w/ fralins, a strat w/ vintage rails, a gretsch w/ filtertrons & a les paul black beauty.. a Fender prosonic w/ an Avatar 2x12 w/ alnico blue & greenback & a 1964 Supro T-16, The Bosstone is quite at all settings & sounds great with al pick ups, I get that Ibanez TS-9 Stevie Ray tone on lower attack settings with a strat or Tele and gobs of fuzz ALA Randy Roads with a Les Paul on higher attack settngs everything inbetween!!!!

I play a wide range of styles from delta blues to Goth, hard rock to classic rock & the Bosstone works well for all!!! I've been playing for 40 years & have owned the following pedals: Prescription Electronics "Experience" Fuzz, analogman TS-9 silvermod, 70's MXR distortion plus, Brooklyn overdrive, rat fuzz, radial classic & hot british tonebone AND!!!! hate to tell you guys BUT the VOODOOLABS BOSSTONE (which is now discontinued) BLOW MOST OF THE ABOVE AWAY AT a fraction of the price!!!!!!! I love the TUBE overdrive sound with all the rich harmonic overtones which are lacking in all the $200.00 plus pedals above!!! I compared this pedal with the analogman TS-9 silvermod and it gets the sound with out the annoying compression sound, and the PE Experience and the bosstone sounded fatter, fuzzier & more sustain!!!! if this were lost or stolen I would probably be outta luck because it is no longer made!!! HEY VOODOOLABS! WAKE UP!I TRIED ALL YOUR PEDALS INCLUDING & THE BOSSTONE BEATS THEM ALL!!! START MANUFACTUREING THE BOSSTONE AGAIN!!! i love it!!!!!!!

Simple - Two knobs (Volume and Attack) The real selling feature - TRUE BYPASS

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Godin LGX3 with duckbucker pickups (nice and silent). Not very noisy even when you're pushing the pedal at high volumes. I get a nice warm bluesy distoring when attack is at 9 and volume is at 9. But nice sharp attack at 4 o'clock and volume at 3. Nice AC/DC and sounds really good with a wah (Vox). I can get a nice Vodoo Chile goin'.
Similar to my MXR Distortion +, another great distortion pedal, but with a little more kick and bass.

Reliability : 9
Very dependable. Bough it used and still works great.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't say.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
A great pleasure to own. If you're looking for a great sound for a great price, this is a great one. Also check out the MXR distortion +. They're both great.
Again, the true bypass is a great feature. Won't drain your batteries when it's not activated and won't drain your tone. Why doesn't everybody make their pedals true byapass?

Two knobs. Very simple, intuitive operation.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a '62 reissue Strat (w/the EMG Gilmour pickup system), a stock Strat, a G&L Legacy Special (w/three mini humbuckers), and another custom assembled Strat (also with the DG-20 EMG system).

Pedal is not noisy on lower to mid settings, higher/highest settings produces some backround noise. Using this thru 1) '65 Fender Pro Reverb 2) Marshall 800 combo 3) Crate Vintage Club "AC-30 Clone"
On lower settings, great for overdrive crunch, mid settings good for AC/DC style heavy crunch (as well as most '60s/'70s classic rock), highest settings best for Hendrix style fuzz. BTW..this pedal really sounds great with an Echoplex (or for those on a budget, with a Delay Modeler's 'Echoplex' or 'analog delay (DM-2)' settings.

The pedal really has a great, unique tone, similar to the Fuzzface, but it has its own tone....This pedal is (apparantly) a "clone" of the rare JORDAN BOSSTONE, but in a pedal format instead of the slighly cheezy 'plug in fuzz' unit.

I really like this pedal and recommended it, however, the extra noise on the highest gain settings is a slight annoyance, and this pedal could really benefit from a tone or variable mid/high control. However, the idea was to recreate the Jordan unit, which only had two controls as well, so there you go...

Reliability : 10
Bought used, but very solid construction. I don't foresee any reliability issues. I also own a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive (w/mod by Robert Keeley). That is a great pedal as well.

Customer Support : No Opinion
??? Never had to deal with customer support (yet). No opinion..

Overall Rating : 9
I play all kinds of music short of jazz, or straight jazz anyway. I think this pedal has a "slightly" rude sound and is not as "rude" as one of the previous reviewers had stated. If you want this pedal to start to sound rude, crank the fuzz control to "10" and volume to about "6", that's "rude". Otherwise, with the right settings, this can produce great overdrive, light fuzz, and (if needed or desired) heavy fuzz, for Hendrix type stuff (noisy though in that mode). Better quality than Boss and some other brands. Recommended if you like '60s and '70s fuzz, or just a refreshing slightly original sounding fuzz box.

Jazzmaster>VL Bosstone>DOD Juice Box>Fender Princeton 65. Very sick throat choke fuzz. I love it. Jazzmasters are always noisy, but there's not a lot of added noise. I put attack full and volume to correspond to the volume of the amp. Running it with the Juice Box gives it a lot of extra bass end but makes it sound completely different. You can dial in a Danelectro Grilled Cheese sound, or a Smashing Pumpkins type of sound. You should try it if you have those two. Seriously one of the best fuzzes out there.

Two knobs, and relatively easy to use. The volume and attack are pretty interactive, and there is a ton of output. I do wish that it had a more standard ac adapter.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this as follows: Reverend Slingshot (p90s) or Tele with Joe Bardens > danelectro compressor > Guyatone WR2 > Fulltone Ultimate Octave > Fulltone Fulldrive 2 > Bosstone > Line 6 MM4 > Line 6 DL4 > either a Reverend Hellhound 40/60 or a 1958 Fender Princeton. The pedal is pretty quiet except in extreme settings of either volume or attack. I really either love it or leave it off depending on the guitar and amp. It seems to do better with more midrangey guitars or amp settings. It can be a little harsh when I am using the tele bridge pickup and a fenderesque setting on the Hellhound. On the other hand it is my favorite fuzz with the P90s. It also seems to respond better if the amp is already being pushed a bit. The nicest thing about it is when you use the fuzz below 12:00 and the volume at a minimum of 2:00. It can really slam the amp and do some nice things. Very touch sensitive and responds well to guitar volume adjustments.

Reliability : No Opinion
no problems. However, I am a hobbyist for the most part, and play out infrequently. I do have small kids and they haven't broken it yet.

I play Rock, Country, Power Pop, Blues, Rockabilly. Really I like it all. I don't really do metal. This is a nice fuzz, for classic rock. When I have played out with this, it seems to step out and cut through, when required. I habitually buy and sell pedals, and often things to stay with me for more than a year or two. I think that this will. Play it with your own set up first, but if your stuff has a good bit of midrange to begin with, you will like this pedal.

Love at first listen. I agree, you can get very subtle distortion to full blown fuzz with a twist of the attack knob. Back off the volume on your guitar and get a nice clean tone with a little edge to it.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Seymour Duncan with a Tele (w/ Fender tele mod switch). A little noisy, but to me if the tone is there I can deal with a little noise. I am real influenced by classic rock (i.e. The Beatles, stones,Clapton...). Best fuzz I've heard. Superfuzz is great too, but I got soouch a good deal I couldn't pass this one up. Very easy. Volume and Attack (amount of fuzz). Unlike some pedals, it is possible to get a virtually clean sound with minimum 'attack'.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with an unusual Fender Telecaster (it has a locking trem and two humbuckers with coil-tap - never seen or heard of another like it apart from a photo of Frank Black playing one!) and a Laney LC-30 valve amp along with several other stomp boxes. The sound this box produces is phenomenal. I disagree that it is a one trick pony - with low attack settings it is possible to get a really warm, non-fuzzy overdrive, at about 2/3 attack it produces a fairly traditional 60s fuzz sound with plenty of bottom end. At maximum attack you get a slightly compressed but unbelievably beefy fuzz sound, like a fuzz-face but much fuller and better balanced and with lots of sustain. When added to an already overdriven amp (as, in my opinion, fuzzes are meant to be played) the sound is even better, quite Hendrix-y.
Another good thing is that this pedal really responds to changes in guitar volume and tone. You can easily have the pedal on maximum fuzz and just use your vol knob to get a good rhythm, or slightly fuzzy, sustained 'clean' sound. The pedal produces virtually no noise, even on maximum attack.
My only gripe is that, so far, I haven't been able to make it work well with a wah (Crybaby) - with the wah in the heel position you lose alot of volume. Maybe the batteries in my wah are low (I hope that is the reason!)

Reliability : 10
Very sturdily built. Haven't gigged with it yet but wouldn't think twice about doing so.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed to yet. Heard Voodoo Lab are very good though.

Overall Rating : 10
I was looking for a fuzz that would give me a beefy Hendrix-y sound. This definitely does the trick. The only other fuzzes I've tried are two fuzz-faces (a new re-issue red one and an old silver one), a Dunlop JHS fuzz (too reserved), a Solasound Tonebender (totally different type of sound so no possible comparison), the two Boss fuzz pedals (both awful) and my cheesy Companion Fuzzbox (read my review!) I think the Bosstone is a superb pedal - quite versatile, very powerful, and cheaper than most. I'd like to know how the Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz compares though...

2 knobs - Volume and Attack (Fuzz). Very easy to use. Set your desired volume and then play with the Attack knob until you've dialed in the proper amnount of fuzz. No indicator light, which can be a problem for a fuzzbox during live gigs, but the sounds this pedal delivers more than make up for the lack of a little red light. Input and output jacks are at 12 o'clock, which I prefer.

Sound Quality : 10
This is a reproduction of the Jordan Bosstone, which I have never hears...who cares. This pedal delivers a great fuzz tone, slightly compressed (but not "nasal") and excellent tone, despite the absence of a tone knob. Mids are only slightly scooped, so the sound has good depth to it. Very little noise when it's on and true bypass when it's off. I play humbucking guitars (modified Tele and a Les Paul) into the Bosstone into Voodoo Lab Analog Chorus (see my review) into a Fender Vibrolux Reverb amp and love the pedal's tone with both guitars.

Reliability : 10
Seems extremely well built. No problems yet and I don't expect any.

I am the rhythm guitarist in a gigging blues band and use this pedal for som rhythm work and the few solos I play each night. The rhythm fuzz adds wonderful grit to our band's sound (one other guitar, harmonica, bass, drums) and the lead fuzz cuts through the mix and let's me be center stage. As probably most of you have, I've tried an enormous number of fuzz boxes, looking for "my sound". This is it. In hindsight, nothing else has come close. The Bosstone is kinda like Danny Gatton (no, he didn't use one); he was the greatest unknown guitar player. Similarly, the Bosstone is, in my opinion, the greatest unknown fuzz box. play mostly blues and it serves me well with both Rhythm and lead parts.

Very Easy to use. One knob is volume and the other is attack (fuzz). Tinkering around with the knobs yield many interesting and complex Fuzz tones.

Sound Quality : 8
There are seemingly 2 schools of thought about distortion. One school is turning a tube amp up to ten and letting the tubes do the work. The other school deals with a dedicated group of users who swear by distortion pedals. I fit into the first catagory as I always overdrive vintage Marshall amps to get distortion. In honesty I've only owned about 4 distortion pedels in the last 10 years (2 tube screamers, a DOD American Rock, and an original fuzz face). After buying a Strat '62 reissue, I needed a great fuzz to put in front of my Plexi Marshall. At the Music store, I auditioned at least 8 Fuzz boxes. Some were lame like the Jimi Hendrix fuzz (a real bummer). Others were super high gain like the Boss fuzz. The new Dunlop fuzzes do not sound anything like the originals so they were out unless I sent it away for a modification. The Bosstone was the first I tried out and I instantly liked its vintage character. It has an upper-mid range bite that cuts through. It can also deliver high amounts of fuzz. This fuzz is very musical, dynamic and crisp unlike a couple other boxes I tried out. I believe that this pedel could use a tone knob due to some amps character to be trebily. This pedel is super.

Reliability : 10
Looks like the pedel is built well with a heavy duty case and stomp button.

Overall Rating : 10
If you are a fuzz fan, give this pedal a try. It is a rich and distinct tone that will take you to the 60's and beyond. I'm not too familiar with this company, but based on what I heard from other players, they design and manufacture GREAT stuff at affordable prices.

Well, it has two knobs, "Volume" and "Attack." That seems to be par for fuzzes, one knob for Volume/Level, one for Gain/Fuzz/Attack/Whatever. Pretty intuitive.

Sound Quality : 8
This is a clone of the old Jordan Bosstone. For those of you who ahven't ever seen one, the Jordan was a small box that plug straight into the guitar (then the card into it), it had two little dials for th same controls as on this pedal. The sound is pure 60's fuzz. Very harmonically-saturated (eh, couldn't think of a better way to say it). The fuzz sounds very compressed, very midrangy. Think "Spirit in the Sky" (that was actually recorded through a torn speaker though). That's about it, it sounds great, but it's a one trick pony. I do find used with an overdrive pedal, it can provide the extra harmonics and midrange to simulate a vintage Marshall some.

Reliability : 10
Voodoo Labs uses premium parts in their pedals. The pedals themselves are built to a compromise, most parts (pots, jacks) are soldered right to the board (that makes manufacturing quicker and easier), but the parts that are used are by Switchcraft, Carling and other legendary companies.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Josh Fiden of Voodoo Labs postes and responds regularly on the Guitar Forum here at Harmony Central. That says alot about him for me. But I have yet to have a problem with my pedal and can't comment on their Customer Service.

Overall Rating : 8
I like it. It's very vintage. It's not my main fuzz, I find the compressed tone is limited. So, I might not buy a new one if this is lost, but I'm not about to give this one up.

Ease of Use : 9
The Bosstone is a stomp box with two knobs. It couldn't be any easier to use. The knobs are aptly labeled Volume and Attack. The only reason I didn't give this pedal a perfect 10 in this category is because of its manual. The manual is brief and doesn't include any information on suggested settings or this pedal's predecessor, the Jordan Electronics Bosstone.

Sound Quality : 9
The Bosstone delivers very nasty fuzz! The first time I placed this pedal between my Strat and Groove Tubes Soul-o, I was stunned by the amount of fuzz that hit me. It is a total blast to play through! The best way I can describe its tone is like a Fuzz Face but much bigger, more compressed, and more out of control.
The pedal is extremely quiet when not in use thanks to the True Bypass Switching. I have been using carbon batteries with the pedal so I cannot comment on its tone with a wall wart adapter. The jacks, knobs, and switch seem well constructed and do not make any noise.

Reliability : 10
This pedal is built to be used. I find no reason to be concerned about its dependability.

Customer Support : 10
The president of the company, Josh Fiden, is extremely informative. He has contributed a good bit to the Harmony Central Guitar Forum and related Usenet newsgroups. He even e-mailed me with the information I felt the Bosstone's manual should have contained.

Overall Rating : 8
The rating for this section is difficult for me to answer. For what the pedal does, it is perfect. For the small price I paid, it is an unbelievable value. However the Bosstone is a one trick pony.
The Bosstone is ideal for over-the-top vintage fuzz in your face. It is not the pedal I would use to add a little grit to a clean tone. However I would use this pedal to add huge fuzz to overdriven power tubes.
I might not use this pedal for most of my playing. But when I am feeling dirty or want to blow the house down I will stomp on it, grin, and take a wide stance.
