With the trim-pot set correctly (for your setup & tone) it is really easy to get great sounds out of it...where ever you place the knobs. Setting the trim-pot though can be the difference between a great sound and either a dead one or shrill one...depending on how the factory had it. My first m-vibe (stolen) was set too shrill and at the time didn't know about the trim-pot (found out about these things while setting up my boss ce-2) and the one I am reviewing now was too muddy and dark stock...after a few twists I have it just right for me.

Setup-Strat/335/SG-dunlop crababy (crap), Micro-Vibe, danelectro pastrami overdrive set to really cheap sounding fuzz (works well for that...actually sounds pretty good), Boss CE-2 Chorus, AB-A Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ (mid & Gain boost), Peavey Classic 30 & 1x12 extension cab-B-Boss SD-1 Overdrive, Marshall VS65R. This pedal does an excellent job of doing the Robbin Trower, Jimi Hendrix thing as well as classic phase tones ala Lowell George, especially for $150. Doesn't add to the noise level, which is good cause on the classic 30 it is insanely loud when the band quiet anyway. There are better sounding units out there...but not for this price.

I take care of my stuff, and I can't afford more (this one was a gift) so I have to depend on it and can't gig with a backup. Even if I could afford one I would feel pretty confident in it...seems pretty sturdy and the cirtuit board is anchored within the pedal...which is pretty clean compared stuff like boss and dunlop.

Beautiful sound. I had tried the Danelectro Rocky road, and I can honestly say there is no comparison. I'm glad I bit the bullet and spent the extra money on the Micro Vibe.
I use a Jap 50's strat with Seymour Duncan pups into a crybaby, the Microvibe, Boss CS3 compressor, TS9 reissue, (Sometimes) Vtwin. In the fx loop of the amp I run a Boss DD2 delay and a TR2 tremelo, sometimes with a Boss CE3 chorus or a boss BF2 flanger.

I'm going for SRV all the way, with a healthy dose of Mike Landau on his Burning Water stuff. However, the main reason I bought this pedal is the Steve Lukather tune "Never Walk Alone" on Candyman. This pedal is perfect for that slight transparent shimmer behind a slightly, but not-over distorted tone. I'm stoked that this pedal has hit the spot. It is also great for a really middly, fixed Wah position tone. Again set with the intensity low, the Mocro Vibe really adds tothe sound by adding a slight dynamic to the sound - a slow shimmer and swirl that really adds life to the sound - cool, cool, cool. The bypass also seems spot on - much better than any Boss or Dod.

Once you get the internal trimmer set, it is simple to use. However, expect to spend several hours working with the internal trimmer to set the pedal so that it does not cut your high ends signal or sound trebly and thin. Once the trimmer is set right, the pedal sounds great. I give it a 5 for ease of use because getting the internal trimmer set is not easy and some users will never get it set exactly right so that this pedal does not suck tone when engaged. (It is true bypass so it has no effect on your sound when swiched off.) I suspect that Voodoo Labs is saving a lot of money by failing to fine tune the pedal before shipping. I find it hard to believe that they are not aware of this problem.

Has a nice Leslie-like sound with the intensity from 10 to 1 o'clock and the speed on full. Slower speeds with higher intensity give you the classic Univibe sound. The sound is not overly sweet, which is a problem with some chorus pedals. It is a nice alternative to a chorus pedal for folks looking for a more unique sound (everybody uses choruses it seems.) This covers the ground between a MXR Phase 100 and a Boss chorus pedal. Sounds good both clean and with overdrive. I'll give it a 9 because it is not a Holy Grail pedal, but I really love the Leslie-like setting.

I would gig without a backup because in a pinch I would use my chorus and phase pedals. But I don't see a problem. My biggest concern is that if I had to buy another one I might have to go throught the hassle of setting the internal trimmer once again! I really found the pedal unsatisfactory with the factory setting and getting is set just right is not easy. So I will give them a 6.

This one is a keeper but you have to mess with it initially so that it does not destroy your tone. I suppose there are other modulation pedals that cover the same ground as well. If this were lost, I would try a few others but probably would buy another Micro Vibe.

Very easy pedal to use. 2 knobs: Intensity and Speed. The instructions get you to Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs (slow and deep) and SRV - Couldn't Stand the Weather (fast and shallow).

My pedal board chain is Crybaby (mod. w/tru bypass), Tube Screamer, MXR phase 90, MicroVibe, Dan-Echo. That goes into a Mesa Boogie DC-5. My #1 is a PRS Custom 24; #2 is an American Strat with Bill Lawrence pups. My set-up is SILENT. I won't have anything in my chain that is the least but noisy or sucks any tone from the guitar straight-in. I was looking for the Trower and SRV sounds. I was also hoping I could get a sort-of chorus out of it. While it performs its main job well (even the quasi-chorus is reasonable), and it is pretty quiet, but it sucks highs in a way that I can't live with. When I use the PRS "Les Paul" setting (middle setting), the effect becomes so muddy it is unusable. The hot fat pup is a little better. Add distortion and fuhgedaboudit! The Strat is better but only on the bridge pickup. I like to use the neck pickup with the Tube Screamer for SRV but when you kick in the Micro Vibe, it's sayonara to the highs. If I totally change the EQ settings on the amp, I can get a decent vibe sound. But then it's all wrong when you switch it off.

After reading reviews in GP about this effect, I was really excited about getting the SRV sound at this price. I was really disappointed when I kicked it in and the tone went bye-bye (after waiting to get it fixed). I have had it over a year and have given it every opportunity to WOW me. I have tried different amps and guitars. I've taken it out of the effects chain and tried it both direct and through the amp's effects loop. Maybe it's me but it just isn't going to happen for us. As of today, I'm kicking it to the curb. Now I have a hole in my pedal board. Maybe I'll meet a nice analog chorus that will give me what I'm looking for.

Out of the box this pedal gave me a huge volume and treble loss so I needed to run my Austone Fuzz Nutz in from of it at full blast. However that didnt help me on the clean sounds so I decided to unscrew the unit like you would if you were to replace the battery, and I adjusted the internal trim pot with the same small screwdriver I used to open the pedal- the trim pot is a small white plastic screw located at the bottom of the circuit board.
When starting out at full left position and turned the trim pot to the right I noticed changes in tone but the sound refused to oscillate with the speed knob turned up high. I decided that the trim pot must be adjusted from right to left, and with the speed knob up at least halfway so that you can hear the oscillations to be sure you havent mis-adjusted it. Anyway, I spent a few minutes playing my guitar while turning the trim pot- there are huge tonal changes available, and I finally settled on a setting that at least improved the sound from when I first used the pedal. Now I dont seem to have a volume loss, but I also dont have a volume increase like some other reviewers have mentioned on their older versions that dont have the LED. Mine has the LED. So the trim pot is very sensitive and cant be adjusted by turning it back and forth- you need to turn it all the way to the right to start, and then slowly turn it to the left until it sounds OK. Very tricky but easy to do, and I am no engineer.
Now that I adjusted the pedal it sounds much more like a chorus instead of a phaser when I play clean at certain settings. I really love the sound now- Its subtle when used clean at low settings, which I like. When used with distortion the effect is enhanced. This is a good pedal.

Takes some tweaking to get useable sounds, but the effect is very strong. Two knobs- speed and intensity shape the sound. The knobs are very responsive to small changes, and interactive- also the actual tone of the guitar seems to change when you make drastic changes to the knobs. It takes some time to get the correct speed setting- if you play rhythms at the same speed as the pedal you get a unique effect- also octaves sound great on this pedal. Its close to the sound Hendrix uses at the Woodstock 1969 concert, but needs to be tweaked in order not to sound overwhelming.

Sounds like a cross between a phase shifter and a vibrato effect. There is a slight volume drop when the pedal is engaged, but cranking your fuzz pedal's volume to the max (assuming like me that you place the fuzz first before the modulation effects) restores enough volume to crank my little Vox Cambridge 15 watt amp to nice levels with fine tone. I havent tried this pedal on my Marshall AVT 50 amp yet but I am sure it kicks. The effect is strong and I prefer a low intensity and high speed setting combination, contrary to the guidelines given in the instruction manual, which is just a single page, but at least it comes with some literature. The effect can be a little noisy at obnoxious settings but the sweep is pretty quiet when set correctly- its a little more noisy than my Maxon 301 Flanger. This pedal replaces my original 1970's EH Small Stone which is good but seeking retirement in my drawer- I wanted newer better-made effects and this pedal fit the bill nicely. Like I said it can replace your phase shifter, and its two knobs offer more control than the harsher sounding MXR Phase 90 re-issue. I am using this with a Gibson Les Paul but I am sure it sounds better with my Strat- everything sounds better with a Strat. As with all phase shifters there is a small loss of high frequency response, which is another reason why Fender guitars probably sound better with this effect.

I play blues/rock and this pedal is great for the heavy stuff like Hendrix. As a matter of fact I just downloaded some of the guitar tab and chord contributions on the database link here and riffs like Hendrix Burning of the Midnight Lamp, or the Beatles I Feel Fine sound very good with this Micro Vibe pedal. An advantage of this pedal is that it is small and battery operated and portable, where as other pedals that do the Univibe thing are bulky and more costly.
This pedal completes my gear- I also own a Maxon 505 Chorus and 301 Flanger, an original EH Big Muff and Small Stone, a Maestro MFZ Fuzz, a DOD FX 50 Overdrive Preamp, the Austone Textone and Fuzz Nutz models, the Roger Mayer Spitfire, the Guyatone TZ-2 Fuzz, and the new re-issued EH Deluxe Memory Man. The Memory Man compares well to the Micro Vibe and is a good alternative for those not wishing to own so many effects.
Overall this Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe is a decent choice for boutique pedal users in my opinion as a vibrato and phase effect. I would NEVER buy any of the inexpensive new DOD or Boss effects because I think they are cheaply made junk, in my opinion.

I've noticed no noise when I turn it on. No pop or anything. After all the other reviews I read, I was expected this and was pleasantly surprised. I did notice a loss in highs, but also read the trick about the trim pot below, and that seemed to do the trick. I've found one other thing: before you adjsut your trim pot, make sure you are plugged into the power source you plan on using because the tone sounds different between battery and wall wart. Either way, it's got a beautiful swirling sound. It'll never be the same as playing through a Leslie, but I don't have that kind of jack and the petal weighs a lot less!

I play blues, old rock, and a bit of jazz. Try playing "Blue in Green" (Miles Davis) through this for a different jazz sound! Wish I was good enough to say I play like Clapton, Jimi, or SRV, but my head's not that big. I just enjoy myself.
I own a Am Fat Strat Deluxe, a Tele, and a Les Paul, going through either a Mesa Boogie Nomad (mostly) or a Fender HR Deluxe (occassionally). I've played TS in front but mostly use that for a different option with the Nomad or as OD on the Fender. The M Vibe gives that late 60s sound that I've loved since the Beatles. When I was test-driving this in the store, it kept suggesting all kinds of Beatles stuff to me. Defintely a good match for what I like.
I didn't compare it to anything else because I own a Voodoo Overdrive petal and Petal Power, both solid as can be and neither have given me a moment's worry. Enough said. Would I get this again? You bet your sweet bippy!

Two Knobs-- how hard can it get?
The controls are very interactive-- it might take a couple minutes to figure out the proper match/contrast for a song's tempo. I mark my two fave positions for gigs as a starting point. It's easy to change on the fly with the big knobs.

This baby is the ticket to Trowerland, for those of us not wealthy enough to cherrypick among overpriced vintage univibes.
I have two friends who own original univibes, and they both suck compared to the Microvibe. We compared 'em at a studio one day, and this box was more USABLE in just about every aspect, and MUCH less noisy.
BUT-- this is an earlier series than the ones out now with the LED's (mine has none-- but it's not a problem, as you can easily tell if it's on or off). I have owned it for a long time (tried it out after the rave review in GP, had to have it immediately after plugging in), and have had ZERO problems with it. NO TONE LOSS, NO TREBLE OR BASS LEVEL CHANGES LIKE OTHER REVIEWS HAVE STATED.
Bottom line: This is a killer pedal, but try it out WITH YOUR OWN RIG before you purchase. I suspect the treble loss others have described is due to impedance loading (from lousy cables, pickups or other effects before it in line), low batteries, who knows? Mine rules, but I have a good rig, and even my Vox Wah is modded for true bypass, so perhaps that is the reason it sounds good.

I just got this pedal earlier this week, and used it for the first time tonight with ma band.
I'd heard various demo's & tried one out myself (surprise) before buying, and had checked the various user reviews posted on sites like this one. I was particularly struck by the reviewer here who talks about the trim pot inside to tweak the treble. But I'd liked what I heard in the shop and thought I'd get one.
It arrived (I got it over the Web) and then I plugged in and ... and ... and ... no treble. My guitar sounded like it had been put through a sock. And an old one at that. So I thought, not to worry, do the trim pot thing. An hour or so later, I was happy - more than happy, it sounded great. Then tonight, I pitch up with the band and during the sound check thought, oh, let's just kick in with the Micro Vibe, see how it sounds. And ... and ... pants. Yuk. So, out came the screwdriver and I did the trim pot thing again, and - heh presto - eventually, after about another 15 min's of fiddling, I got it sussed so the sound sounded great with me playing along with everyone else in the bad. Hurrah. The rest of the evening, whenever I switched it on, I was happy.
The moral of this tale? I don't think the Micro Vibe is actually easy to use at all. I agree with some of the other reviewers, this pedal needs quite a bit of fine-tuning (inside, you have to take the damn thing apart to get at the f'ing trim pot). This is not a take-it-out-of-the-box-and-be-happy pedal. Sure, once you've got it set up properly, you will be (happy). But for some reason, this pedal doesn't seem to (always) come perfect.
The man who found the trim pot and posted the review on Harmony should be knighted. (I'm a Brit - knighting people is a good thing where I come from.) Or maybe he should just get to shag people he'd like to shag. Whatever. He did a good thing by sussing out the trim pot and so a big :-) goes out to him from me.

Once you've set it up right, this pedal's yummy. Surprisingly big for its size (small pedal, big sound), very swirly (if you want it to be), but nicely organic - no harsh, metalic edge to the sound, here. And pretty versatile (albeit, that it'll always sound like what it is - a Univibe clone).
My only slight niggle (apart from having to mess about with the trim pot to get the overall sound right to start with) is that the speed control doesn't seem to go all that fast when on top setting - it might be a little unfair, cos trem's generally in my experience can go a little faster than 'Vibes anyway, but I felt I could use a little more speed, even for a Vibe pedal.
But not bad. Not bad at all.

It's a pretty good pedal. I've played the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe and the Fulltone Vibe, too. They're both very, very good, but much, much more expensive. I'm not a big 'Vibe pedal fanatic, but I do find it a very useful addition to my board for a few specific uses during our set, so for me it's been a good buy (I don't think I could justify the extra expense of an original Uni Vibe, for example). So, I'm reasonably happy when all's said and done.
I don't know what the deal is with this having to fiddle with trim pot thing - it is a pain in the arse, and personally it does worry me a little that I can't just take the pedal out the box, plug in and get a great sound. But having said that, with a bit of tweaking, I've ended up happy. Maybe Voodoo Lab should encourage users to do the adjustments (fine-tuning to match your guitar ...?) and explain what to do in the instructions (perhaps they could even make it easier to do the tweaking ...?). Or maybe, as has been suggested elswhere, they have a quality control problem - I don't know.
Overall, though, pretty good value, no regrets. It's a good pedal, evne if I've been a bit snooty about it. (But I am a Brit, so what do you expect?)

Pretty easy to get a good sound. With only speed and intensity controls to tweak, you can quickly get an idea of the range of sounds available. On my particular unit, settings below 12 o'clock on either speed or intensity don't seem to have much effect. I was able to dial in a classic Trower setting ("bridge of sighs") with no trouble. Other less extreme setting are available though.

I can't compare the Microvibe to a vintage univibe sound since I've never played a vintage univibe. My impression of the Microvibe is that it gives me the sound I've heard some of my favorite recordings. For use with my single coil guitars, I seem to get a better sound if I send a slightly boosted signal to the Microvibe. My only dissappointment with the Microvibe is that it doesn't react well to rolling down my guitar volume. The tone seems to get a thinned out and take on a metallic tinge.

Other than a worn out toggle switch on my Microvibe, none of my Voodoo Lab effects (overdrive, analog chorus, tremelo, proctavia) which have never glitched or otherwise failed to perform. The Microvibe worked flawlessly up to the moment that I accidentally neutered it while poking around the insides. I had it repaired by VL and it works great again! The failure wouldn't have happened if I was more careful. The only component I would worry about is the tiny incandescent bulb inside the unit will probably need replacing from time to time. Trust me, you won't find these bulbs at your local Radio Shack. Also, the bulb's filament could potentially be damaged by shock or vibration, particularly while in use (due to the fragile nature of heated filaments).

As I stated earlier, I had to have my unit serviced due to stupidity on my part. I knew that I had damaged a photo cell but wasn't sure where to obtain them, so I arranged to have it repaired by the fine fellows at Voodoo Lab. They gave me an RMA and told me that they'd call to get my approval to proceed once they had examined the unit. Being impatient, I called the customer service dept. about 12 days later to ask if the unit had been looked at and to my surpise it had already been repaired. I'm not sure about the disconnect with the "we'll call you before we fix it" thing, but I certainly won't object to the fast repair turnaround. Although I had agreed to pay an additional charge for parts, they ended up only charging the flat bench fee for replacing a photo cell, and damaged power jack. They even replaced the incandescent bulb. Way to go Voodoo Lab!

The Microvibe does a more than adequate job whenever I need a univibe effect. I love it's compact size and portability. Battery operation is a plus although it will drain batteries fairly quickly. After all, there is an incandescent bulb in the circuit. I don't doubt that there are better vibe units out there but not in this price range!

Ok I'm posting this because of other reviews describing a "loss of treble" or "too much treble" from the microvibe ! Actually i had 2 microvibe: one 3 years ago and a new one last year. Well they didn't sound the same at all !!! The first one was great, very transparent and i used to use it for clean work mostly. The new one is just *really* bassy (the other reviewers noticed as me a big "loss of treble") and plain unusable for clean work (your sound is muffled). The new one is ok with distortion tough.
So today i decided to open this new microvibe and check why the same pedal can sound so differently. Opening the new one is not easy task but once did, you'll notice a trim pot to the left of the switch. This trim pot is the key to the balance between bass and treble.
Set intensity on 0 and speed whereverr you want. Slowly trim the pot while playing (you'll notice huge tonal difference and more and more treble the more you go to the right). Once you're happy close the thing.
As this effect is very sensitive, it makes a giant difference, I was able to find again the tone of my first microvibe.
So if your microvibe sound bassy or muffled, that's the solution. I think Voodoolab had better quality control a few years ago...
Hope i helped

YOU CAN NOT USE BATTERIES WITH THIS PEDAL THEY LAST ABOUT 20 MINS' AC POWER ONLY!. GREAT PULSATING SOUND!IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME JUST ASK ANDY SUMMERS. ONCE AGAIN THIS PEDAL SOUNDS GREAT WITHOUT DIST/O.D. IT IS A GREAT PEDAL THAT DOSENT NEED BOOST! BESIDES ANYONE WHO COMBINES PHASE/CHORUS WITH O.D.MUST BE A PERVERT! OR A METTALICA FAN! I play a Strat/Tele/PRS into a Mesa Tremoverb.
I've mainly ended up using this as a chorus substitute. I much prefer it's 'organic-ness' to the typically messy chorus sound.
It also does sound better than the 'vibes' in my Line6 MM4.
HOWEVER, I do have one big beef with this thing. It completely sucks the high-end out of my tone when it's on. Since other reviews here contradict this fact, it makes me wonder if I've gotten a lemon. Regardless, it makes the bridge pickup on my tele sound like the neck pickup. This is borderline unacceptable!
With that aside, the actual effect is fantastic. Nice swirl....

I have very conflicting feelings about this thing. I really like the effect when I use it here at home, but on a gig, the treble attenuation causes my sound to get lost in the mix. Swirling vortex of mud. I suppose I could run it into an EQ pedal to restore the high-end, but that idea is completely ludicrous to me, due to the noise as well as the price of this pedal.
Eventually, I will replace this pedal, probably with a Fulltone.
I strongly recommend that you A/B this with other 'vibe' pedals before you buy!

Way too trebly....not enough bottom...boosts treble to unacceptable levels and cuts bottom end
Effect is too transparent..must be turned all the way up to be heard
Recommended settings (only 2 out of all possibilities) are decent, but don't really do it for me..don't really come through that strong and are basically useless if you have tremolo as an option, which I do on all my silverface Fender amps
Sounds like a weak tremolo...never heard a real Univibe, but this doesn't do the trick for me...doesn't sound like a Leslie at all IMHO
Seems to modulate the low mid frequencies (in a warble kind of sound) and leave the highs boosted and stingingly overaccented - actually makes my original tubescreamer and my Reverend Drivetrain suck

Voodoo Lab seems like a cool company and their pedals seem well built. I bought this pedal unheard, wanting a cool vibe-ey sound like Stevie's "Cold Shot" but this particular pedal's sound is weak. If I could have 25 pedals at my disposal I could find a place for it. Unfortunately, real estate on the stages I play is not that generous, so I will stick to my Drivetrain and MIJ Boss CE-2 Chorus pedal (and my Teese RMC-1 wah when on especially spacious stages)

Love Hendrix ,Trower etc.... so I knew what i was looking for. Wanted a dunlop, heard so much bad press (even from my local guitar shop) that i decided against it. Traded a POS guitar for this one. Love the sound. Some folks say you loose bass through here, well i have to say if that's the case, then you need to pick up a Blackface Fender Bassman. Cause she's sweet! Sounds wonderful. I bet my neighbors are gonna call the cops any second.
I don't like the way it mixes with a distortion box. I have a TS-9 (the real deal) and it sounds ....good when run after the Micro Vibe, but totally synthetic when run before it, although smoother. You be the judges. I'd love to hear some feedback from some of you as to what you think of this. I think pure tube-amp-cranked-all-the-way -up is the way to go with this one. But it's BEAUTIFUL on clean Fender tones. I don't own a Marshall, this one makes me wish i did.
This little device has made me play more than the past few vintage strats, and amps i have purchased. I like it.

60's strat - vox wah - micro vibe - ts808 - big muff - boss delay - boss chorus - 100w tube. With my set up, the pedal sounds killer. I think this is the best Uni Vibe copy there is in the market. It actually sounds better and more natural than the real thing. If you want to sound like Hendrix, this is a must. Of course there is noise, but aren't all swirly wirly effects noisy? The noise factor doesn't bother me because there isn't much. While you're not playing, you still hear this cool leslie back ground sound. I usually used it before distortion, but supposedly, Hendrix used it after fuzz.

Who knows what a good setup is, after 5 min (and many years behind a fretboard) I like this: Wah, Vibe, Overdrive>amp. If you put the vibe after my OD when the OD is on it picks up too much gain on each swirl and becomes too swishy. With the Vibe first, the OD compresses the signal and it's tolerable. Or use it alone. It's an analog Phase shifter, but a good one. It does boost the bass on the swooshies but I think that it's necessary, along with a mentality when your using weird effects anyway, you've got to sit back and not get anal...because you're not in complete control...hahahaha...is it hell and heaven combined? ahahahaha.....

Various Strats and a Telesonic into a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb. I love the sound, it's thick and swirly. Anything from a light chorus type sound to heavy vibro Univibe'ish sounds. I've only played through a Univibe once in a used music store and liked it very much. But they wanted over $200 used for it and I was reluctant at the time to buy it. Now I'm glad I waited because the Micro Vibe sound just about as good to my ears, and was alittle cheaper. Sounds good clean or overdrive tones. I have noticed that it clips some of the high end out of my tone, but nothing drastic by any means. Excellent product!

read this before you buy..i have tried the Voodoo-vibe By Roger Mayer. I have tried the Deja-vibe the dunlop uni-vibe and many others. This one has the best vibe hands down...i play a strat
with van zant pick-ups into a vox-wah stock into a fulldrive 2 then
a boss distortion and micro vibe. Into a Fender 59 Bassman And
a Fender Twin reverb Signal is split with a voodoo bass pedal. The only draw back is the popping sound when switched on....and
the inevitable swooshing noise...But all the other pedal makers
claim that there's are noisless...thats nonsense they all are...
a boss ns-3 helps out a bit.... three points lost for the click...i have exchanged the pedal three times and it was all the same

im playing a 60's re-issue strat with George L cables into a Z Vex Fuzz Factory, Fulltone Fulldrive 2, Micro Vibe, and a Line 6 Delay Modeler. my amp is a 70/71 Deluxe Reverb w/ an Eminence speaker.
the first m vibe that i bought grew very noisy after 3 months, so i returned it, and was given the newer version. thankfully, i have had no trouble with noise at all. i mean, hell..............it makes SOME noise, but only a 'tard like Eric Johnson would really object. i like the sound of the m vibe very much, but i must say that it does have it's quirks. first, i find that it has a very pronounced lower-mid boost when engaged. it damn near makes a bridge pick-up sound like a neck p/u. second, it reacts to some pedals better than others- it seems to require considerable experimentation to find the best spot on your effects chain.
what is most intriguing to me is the source of power and it's effect on th m vibe. i find that a Tech 21 adaptor provides much greater Speed and Intensity than a brand new battery. the difference is astounding, to be honest. i have used various AC adaptors and batteries and the difference between them with the m vibe is far greater than any pedal i have ever owned. each power source seems to have a great impact on the sound of this pedal.

i have never played an original Univibe, so it's impossible for me to compare. also, im not interested in sounding like Jimi (much as i love him), Trower, SRV, etc. that said, i do find that subtle use of this pedal can really warm up a Strat (both knobs at 9 o'clock or so) or add a very sexy, hypnotic swirl to your playing when the knobs are at 2 or 3 o'clock. it's not something i use all the time, but it can really help your guitar parts stand out if used correctly.

Very easy to use. Two knobs and a footswitch. Intensity knob adjusts depth and the speed knob adjusts rate. Editing is common sense. Knobs are big enough to be turned with the tip of your toe for on-the-fly adjustments. The manual is a single piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper printed on both sides. It's fully explained with just that, and for most people, it won't even be necessary. Replacing the battery requires removal of the 4-screw bottom. A thumbscrew or pop-out lid would have been easier. But I'm not keen on batteries (BTW, a Boss PSA-120 will work as an adapter) so that's not an issue for me.

It's a Univibe clone with true bypass. It sounds like a Univibe, but with no noise or tone-kill when it's bypassed. Though there are better Leslie simulators, this is identical to the original Univibe in terms of the actual effect, so I don't knock it for not giving a "true" Leslie sound. I plug this in right before a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver or the fuzz from a Digitech RP-200 or Boss GT-3, into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I have other effects plugged in before and after, but the BD-2 or fuzz is all I use when this pedal is on. It's noisy when it's on with gain and I'm not playing, but when I'm playing or the OD/Fuzz is off, I can't tell it's on. But that background swirl when I'm not playing is cool to me. When it's off, it's out of the signal entirely and doesn't kill tone. True bypass is a godsend. It's never weak. It's a 4-stage phaser on steroids- more "swoosh" at the top and bottom of the modulation wave. It's VERY good for what it's intended for, and can be used in other "uncommon" ways, too. You can get the standard Univibe Hendrix, Trower, SRV, Pearl Jam, Incubus sounds out of it with ease, and it's also great for comping clean triads- something I haven't heard it used for on recordings. And at a low intensity, it reminds me of a weak-filter wah sweep. And it adds cool textures to acoustic, and is cool for vocals, too (think "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden.) I don't know if they've revised it, but I DON'T hear ANY volume boost or extra high end when I switch mine on. If anything, the center of the sweep is thicker than my original signal, but it doesn't add volume, highs, lows or anything unpleasant in the middle or at either end of the sweep.
Reliability
:

It's built well. I'll depend on it. I haven't heard a single complaints from long-time Voodoo Lab users. No backup for me. The case, pot posts and switch are all very strong. The paint line on the knobs will wear off after a lot of use but that's an easy fix. And the the thin foam skid-pad on the underside will wear down as well after just a few drags across a stage if you don't mount this on a pedal board. But neither of those affect the sound. Just the word "photocells" seems synonymous with "will wear and need to be replaced" to me, but I've seen two 30+ year old unrestored Univibes in action, so I expect this will last just the same. 9 just because everything is breakable and nothing lasts forever.
Customer Support

Not for this, but it's brand new. I've had exchanges with Josh on the Guitar Forum. He's even helped me with non-Voodoo pedals and mods, so I'm confident that any questions I ever have would be answered and any problems would be addressed. There'd be no reason to upgrade or alter mine unless I want a non-Univibe sound from it.

I play all styles of music, but I can't help but hear "Machine Gun" and "Bridge Of Sighs" when I kick this on. But for a Univibe clone, this is the best for the dough. A lot less money than either Fulltone pedal for the same effect. I'd go with a RotoSphere for a real Leslie sound, but again, this is a clone of a clone and so it can't be compared to or thought of as a true leslie simulator. And even though I use an adapter, kudos for the inclusion of a real Energizer alkaline 9-volt and not the crappy, weak, 1/2 hour heavy duty batteries that all my other pedals come with (if at all.) For ME, this pedal is perfect as-is, but stereo outs and/or a rocker-pedal housing or option would be plusses for others so it gets a 9.

This thing really sounds good. The one thing I do not like about it is that you will notice your high end drop out when switching the pedal on, kinda dulls out the sound (as far as the top end definition, more muddy). But then again it is trying to duplicate the original and I think the originalprobably did the same thing. Pedals back then were more noisy and not as transparent. I tried the Dunlap uni-vibe and I am not sure I liked it. It did not have the organic swirl off the original uni-vibe or the micro-vibe. To make up for the drop out of your high-end use it with a loop switcher and maybe dial up those high frequencies that got chopped using an E.Q.

I reviewed this pedal a while back and just wanted to update this section. After posting that I did not get a response from my e-mail to VooDoo Lab, I got one pretty quickly. I got yet another one from Josh Fiden, President himself!!! It seems that there was a shift of duty as to who was answering them.
These guys are good!!! They exist, and their pedals are killer!!! Just wanted to pass this on to anyone considering their stuff because it is tops and should definitely be checked out. I could not be happier with my Micro Vibe, Proctavia and Super Fuzz.

mainly used with fender standard strat into homemade pedal board: Dunop crybaby, boss od-3 overdrive, boss ds-1 distortion, boss ce-5 chorus ensemble, micro vibe, boss dd-3 delay- into peavey classic 30 combo (an early one so it sounds great). pros-univibe type tone for low cost, well made, true bypass (big plus), small, and just an over all coolness factor in having something that not everyone uses. cons-slight volume increase (really hardly noticable except in small clubs where i play) and has kind of a treble boost which is not good cause it is a little brittle in the high end it is. but seeing as how i am an art major in college and a sort of weekend warrior with low funds this fits the bill fine...for now. gets the hendrix/trower sound quite easily (if not completely accurately) and also is cool for 70s funk and that Little Feat rhythm tone a la "skin it back" and many others thanks to lowell george
would just like to say that this is not a chorus and will not sound like a leslie...only a leslie will sound like a leslie...luckily i have access to a vibrotone mwuhahahahahaha...for those of you who do not know of these...vibrotones were fenders small leslie type cabs for guitar players way back when...and dad has one...hehe.

this thing is a little box that i step on in between songs when our goofball "leader" is trying to decide what t play (set list set list set list...need i say more?) and start whipping out "bridge of sighs" style riffs or something along the lines of "sunrise" a song we recorded last fall...so needles to say if you have ever seen us (the hourglass band...yeah yeah yeah i know...allman bros. name...but there is a difference...trust me) i do that a lot and it gets lots of steps on and gets thrown in the back of my van just like the bosses nad holds its own. backup?...college student...remember?

I run a 60s strat - Vox Wah - Big Muff - Micro Vibe - DOD Chorus - 100W Carvin Tube Amp. With my setup i can get some killer tone. You can nail that Star spangled banner like Jimi did. One of my very very emotional moments =). It is really really quite, and unlike other people's units, mine didn't have that clicking noise when switched on, so i was very happy with that. The effects are pretty strong and very swirly, just the way i like it. One thing i didn't expect out of this pedal was that when i run the Micro Vibe clean without distortion, and with right setting, you can get a real nice tremolo sound. It sounds just like the intro to Creep by Radiohead. I am very happy with the sound, it just does what it's supposed to do. I like it far better than Rotosphere and Univibe, but that's just my opinion.

And this pedal will kick it up a notch. I did have the Univibe for a while, but i didn't like it as much i like this Micro Vibe. This pedal sounds far more natural and swirlier. If it were stole, i'd get another one right away. 'Cause it's much cheaper than the univibe, rotosphere, deja, and deja 2.

I am submitting this review for thoes of you who are thinking about a purchase. I have had a love hate relationship with this device for about 3 or 4 years now. I bought it w/o hearing it for myself thinking it was one thing and being really disappointed with it. I expected a chorus sort of sound and it AIN'T. I put it in the box with other devices that I thought I might trade or need for some one shot deal in the studio. I got it out one day for fun and realized that it was a really GOOD sounding device for what it was designed for.
what I am trying to say is ... Unless you know what this type of FX does -- DO NOT BUY IT WITH OUT HEARING IT. Take it out on a gig if the store will let you.

I use both an SG & a LP jr.dc/tv,w/ an XXL distortion-dunlop wah-MICRO
VIBE-dod analog delay-boss compressor-into a 1950's RCA mic/line tube preamp-into a park bass amp w/a 12" speaker...
The vibe adds tone galore to my already rich as hell tone, especially when I hit the analog delay,it really comes alive, and like I read in an earlier review...even when both knobs are turned down it still sounds good.I was playing today and I was getting this Neil Young
"DeadMan" soundtrack sound, which answered the question of what he was using on that session. It does have a click when you turn it on and off
but it also propells me into feedback and does so much for me when it is on that I don't mind a little click here and there.I'm not very anal I must say,and I truly believe that on a stage playing live the drums will drown out the click anyway, and if it doesn't,oh well then.
I'll just make it part o' the show (ya know)

I've never been much of an effects guy, but a friend of mine showed me his Deja Vibe, and I was hooked. I read reviews and tried out numerous pedals. But, cost/sound, this pedal rocks! I was able to dial in Bridge of Sighs right away. This sounds as good as the Deja-Vibe, for less than half the price. I've been inspired to play more now, and am finding more uses for the sound than I origionally thought it would have.

Using a Univibe type effect with or without distortion is an
essential effect for guitarists of any style. Once you play thru
one, you're hooked. The MicroVibe is an excellent example. From
a chorusy transparent tone thru a leslie'ish' vibe effect this pedal
is excellent- I recommend using a 'Wah' pedal. Hendrix, Clapton,
Trower are not unreachable. Compared to Univibe clones that are
way more expensive this pedal sounds just as good.

I originally bought the UniVibe from Dunlop but was concerned with the reviews of them breaking down. I returned it and got the Micro Vibe and it was a great choice. They are very similar but I found the Micro Vibe to be more organic. It has a great tripped out swirl that can't be beat. It is true bypass as well. There is a clicking noise when switching it on and off however. This pedal does not add any noise and is extremely quiet with exception of the clicking. I am using and Ibanez 540 Radius-> Budda Bud Wah-> Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe-> Voodoo Lab Proctavia-> Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde-> Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz-> Fender Twin. This pedal sounds great clean or with the Jekyll side of the J&H. Sound is amazing but the clicking takes away a point.

The warranty card asks for the serial number to register the pedal. I could not see a serial number anywhere on the pedal so I mailed it in but e-mailed Voodoo Lab asking them twice about the serial numbers. This was over a month ago and I have not heard back. I could not find a Deja Vibe to check out so I can only compare it to the Dunlop and I think that for $50 less, this pedal is a great buy since it is true bypass and sounds warm and organic. I would definitely buy this pedal again. I hope if anything does go wrong, I will be able to get in touch with the company.

The first time I tried this pedal was when a friend was trying to sell it. I couldn't understand why. This pedal will make any guitar and amp sound good. Its sounds can be compared to the marriage of a MXR phase 90 with a BOSS CE-1. I find that I can get so many great sounds outta this thing....even with both knobs turned down. A lot of tonal variation. Everything from "Cold Shot" to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Why did I give this an 8 then? Well, just because I own something doesn't mean it is terrific. So what I don't like is this annoying "pop" when the pedal is activated. I noticed that if you push the switch (which is true bypass) a couple times when the amp is on standby that it isn't as bad. A pointer just in case you play live and don't want this annoying "pop" when you turn it on. Also, this pedal will boost your volume and change your tone a bit. I actually like the way it does this with the knobs turned down. Kinda sounds like a sonic maximizer (a must have).

How easy is it to get a good sound out of this thing? If you know how to plug in a cable, that's all it takes. This is one of the sweetest sounding effects I've ever played -- a deep, organic swirl with a wide range of useable sounds.
The manual is very short, but gives some suggestions for sounds. Not much else is needed, since there are only two knobs, an LED (New for Voodoo pedals and much needed!), input, output, and adapter. In order to access the battery, you have to unscrew the bottom -- not my favorite way of doing things.

I play many styles of music: country, metal, punk, disco, funk, industrial... The Micro Vibe finds its way into many situations -- more than I thought it would when I first bought it.
I've been playing for 20 years and have used well over a hundred stomp boxes. This one is in my top ten for sure.
If this unit were lost or stolen, I would definitely replace it.
There's so much I love about my Micro Vibe. Like I said, its tone is very organic, and by that I mean that instead of laying on top of my guitar's tone (like, say, a Boss pedal), it gets into my tone. It's like the difference between putting A1 on a steak or marinating a steak for a few days.
I did not compare it to other UniVibe clones. One dealer told me that the Fulltone box is better, but it also costs twice as much. I chose this one not just because of the price, but because the company (Digital Music Corp. is the parent company of Voodoo Labs) provides great customer service and makes consistently great products.

Using several Strats through a 2x12 Blues Deville. Does sound a lot like a Univibe. Not a whole lot going on till you get Intensity past about halfway. Definitely gives you the later Jimi sound. With speed turned up, you can kinda get the Cold Shot sound, but I'm pretty sure SRV was using a real Leslie to get that sound. Close but no cigar. The thing I didnt like about it was the way it changed the overall tone of the guitar, it sucks all the bass out and makes it sound really midrangey. Sounds decent clean, but with distortion added, gets really muddy. Pretty noisy when used with distortion. Sounds like a phase shifter on steroids. Havent tried the Dunlop model, so I cant compare...

This thing is incredible. It's just the thing I've been looking for. I can easily get Hendrix, Trower, SRV, etc. tones from the Micro Vibe in no time. It sounds way more organic and natural/warm sounding than a Univibe, Dejavibe, etc. It's not really a chorus or a phaser effect; if I had to describe it to someone that has never used some sort of "vibe" I would say that it is chorus/phaser/flanger/leslie speaker type of tone. I use it with a Marshall JTM612 and a Fender Blues Deluxe with a Gibson SG Special, SG-X, G&L Legacy, Gibson Les Paul Gem, and an Epiphone Sheraton and all gear sounds great with it. The first time I called they where great. The second time I think I caught them on a bad day. I asked about installing an LED and the tech said that it was possible if you install a three pole switch instead of the standard two pole. I asked where can I obtain one of these switches and they refered me to Mojo MusicalSupply. I told him that I just spoke to them about knobs for my Groove Tubes Trio preamp and they said that they do not sell directly to people and that you have to go through a dealer or distributor. I have many guitars, but this (and all other Uni-Vibes) seem to sound best with single coil or coil tapped guitars. My Ibanez RG 7621 7-string does amazing things with this pedal in line. Intensity ranges from barely noticeable, to Trower's Bridge of Sighs to Hendrix' Star Spangled Banner. I'm using a 5150, a JCM900 and a Yamaha/Soldano combo. The Micro-Vibe sounds best with the 5150 heavily distorted and the guitars volume backed down a bit to clean it up again. This pedal does great things with low frequencies, so I suggest a 4x12 cabinet to get the most out of it. It has less impact with a combo amp. I sold my Dunlop Uni-Vibe so I could turn right around and buy this unit. There is absolutely no comparison. The Micro Vibe smokes the Dunlop Uni-Vibe hands down. The effect is much thicker and swirly than the Dunlop. Also, the Micro Vibe works with a 9 volt battery and the same power supply as my other effects, Boss chorus, BF-2 flanger, Arion Delay, Ibanez PT3, MXR Phase 90, Cry Baby, etc. The Dunlop Uni-Vibe was a pain because it had it's own wall wart power supply and was too bulky. It took up too much room in my pedal board.

A little fiddling can get a nice, swirling, throbbing sound from it. The controls are a little sensitive, so it takes a little time to find a sweet spot. On the other hand, there are only two controls -- speed and intensity -- and the knobs are big enough to adjust them with your foot. The manual is uninformative.

I use this with Strats, Hamers and a Danelectro reissue guitar. I go through either a Pro Reverb or a Princeton Reverb. Other effects are a Cry Baby and a Dano Daddy-O overdrive. The Microvibe is dead quiet when switched off, thanks to its true-bypass switching. When it's on, there's some low noise, which I can handle, and occasional pops particularly when the Daddy-O and/or wah are on. This I don't like. With the Pro Reverb, too, there is a pop when I switch it on or off. The actual effect it creates is great -- a wonderful lush swirl -- but to my ears, it affects my tone when it's on. I think it sucks bottom end and makes things sound thinner.

It's probably fine, now. I bought it new and it didn't work. I sent it back to Voodoo Labs and it works fine now (assuming the pops and bottom end sucking are normal). If it does go out, at least it doesn't hurt the signal while it's off.

It's a shame that problem is there, because I love what it does.

A footswitch and dails for speed and intensity, very easy to figure out. At any setting, it's very lush and warm, and it's very easy to get the speed and intensity for the effect you want. This is just the "chorus" section (actually, I think it really works like a phase-shifter) of the Univibe, so you don't have to mess with the extra controls for the "vibrato" section.

I use this after my wah and fuzzes, but before my amp's (Carvin XV-212) preamp O/D, or any O/D pedal. I just like how the overdirve, smoothes out various effects. Anyway, placed there, it's just Hendrix in a box, regardless of which guitar I use. It does the Univibe jig very, VERY well, as good as any I've heard. True-bypass switching, so no extra noise when it's off.

It seems really durable. Voodoo Labs has done a great job of designing/redesigning circuits to fit well enough on a PCB board that they can save costs by mounting parts (pots, jacks) straight to the board, but still use very reliable hardware (switchcraft, Carling, etc). I suppose, personally, I have a fear that if it got banged around one of the pots/jacks would break the board. But everything, battery included, seem very tightly mounted and these fears don't seem justified. 5-year warrenty, too!

I haven't dealt with them. Josh Fiden of Voodoo Labs is always posting on the Guitar Forum here at HC, always anxious to answer questions and help out (even about pedals other than VL), that speaks well enough for me.

I play a lot of classic rock (amongst other things), and was looking for a great 'vibe foe Hendrixesque stuff. The Micro-Vibe was as good, if not beter than any others I tried, and was far cheaper (by at least a $100). Yes, you give up the Univibe's "vibrato" section for that cash, but it seems a little used feature anyway.

Very easy to use. It has only two controls, speed and intensity. It seems that the controls are interactive. Where one is set affects how the other responds. I love it when that happens! And the knobs are big enough that you can turn them with your foot.

I play a Strat Ultra w/ Dimarzio pickups. My rig consists of, in the following order: Morley Pro Volume-Wah > Micro Vibe > Ibanez Tube King > Homemade Tube Screamer type overdrive > Mesa V-Twin Rackmount > Digitech 2101 Artist (distortion bypassed, used in FX loop of V-Twin) > Aphex 104 Exciter > Mesa 20/20 amp > two Peavey Classic 112E cabs loaded w/ Carvin VL12s. The Micro Vibe is very quiet for an analog pedal. Very slight hiss when idling and no tone sucking when bypassed (it uses a DPDT true bypass switch). All the sounds from the Micro Vibe are very musical and usable IMO. You can go from a slow phasey sweep to a tremolo-like Univibe wobble. Great for those Robin Trower outer space sounds. As someone has said before, it sounds really good going into a low/medium gain distortion, but it gets kind of lost w/ really high gain.

It is made w/ a diecast aluminum Hammond box and seems very durable except for the grain-of-wheat lightbulb inside (see Customer Support below). I would gig without a backup because I could easly bypass it if it quit working.

Jamie, the tech I talked to about my problem, was extremely helpful. The day after I got my Micro Vibe, the tiny bulb inside burned out. I called Digital Music Corp (Voodoo Labs) and Jamie said that this was very unusual and that I could ship it to them for repair under warranty. I told him that it would be quicker if he just sent me a new bulb and I would fix it myself. After warning me about the usual if-you-screw-it-up-you'll-void-the-warranty stuff, he sent me two new bulbs - free! He also explained how to adjust the little trim pot inside to get the best sound. BTW, the bulb is very tiny and a pain in the butt to replace, so don't try it unless you really know how to use a soldering iron (I build stompboxes as a hobby). In addition, I later decided to have them change the switch and add a status LED for $30 and they turned it around in one day! How's that for customer service? :-)

I play mostly classic rock styles and some ambient stuff. This pedal fits right in. I compared it to the Dunlop Univibe and didn't like it as well. The Micro Vibe seemed more transparent and spacey. It's also alot smaller than all the other Univibe clones, fits on my pedalboard, and runs on 9 volts like all my other pedals (I run them off of one power supply). I would definitely get another one if this one were lost or stolen. I believe the problem with the bulb was just a fluke, so don't let my experience keep you from checking one of these out. It's really a quality pedal.

FIRST ...I finally threw all of my digital crap out the window and ordered "analog" stompboxes. I have never heard a "vibe" live in person ...that I know of. This thing is a trip ...a good trip! Simple to use ...intensity and speed. From a slow lull to a very good rotating speaker. It is a trip ...to me it seems to add a little "high end swoosh". Think of a phase swoosh but with a little vibrato added in. Put it this way ...I can now play "Bridge of Sighs" by Robin Trower, and people come over for the concert.

I use a les paul, and a strat thru roland jc120, and an all-tub Lee Jackson modified Ampeg halfstack. The pedal is very quiet. With low intensity settings, it is very subtle effect, but if you crank up the intensity if is very pronounced ...and earthy ...no digital, thank the lord.

Built like a mini-tank. A bit larger than a normal stompbox, but not "BIG". Of course i'd gig w/out a backup ...i would'nt buy something that I did'nt trust!!!!!!! I never have owned a voodoo Lab product, so it's difficult to rate them, BUT ...they come with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY, SO IT DESERES A 10!!! Bring it on !!!

Never dealt with them. Just got the pedal last week. But if they give us a five year warranty, I think they'll stand behind their product.

Anybody who plays ANY type of instrument that can be hooked into the pedal and an amp should have a vibe. Overall it is RUGGEDLY BUILT, KILLER SOUND, AND A FIVE YEAR WARRANTY!!! Of course it makes you play better, when you have a great sound goin, you're in it!!!I'd buy it again. I did'nt compare, but the uni-vibe requires weird chords, and cost about $220.00. Micro-vibe smoked em.!!!
