It's a wah pedal, not much to it.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Squier Fat Strat> Daddy-O Overdrive> Vox wah-wah> Crate TD50C. It sounds great! I compared it to all the wahs in the shop and this one was by far the best.

Reliability : 9
Looks pretty solid. might have some trouble if a car runs over it.

haven't needed to.

This thing is great. I love it!

Very easy to use, click to activate and get crazy. Click to deactivate. Manual is redundant since it's so easy to use.

I got the Vox wah after much consideration over the various crybaby models because a lot of guitar players circles swear by it. Reason being ...tone. Well I have to admit I don't know what the definitive wah tone is but I really love the sound I get from the Vox V847 wah. A very original sound.

The Vox has some slight noise but it's nothign major. And since I use a Boss Noise Supressor, it's basically gone anyway so no problem there.

I read some reviews saying that this Vox isn't true bypassed and it colours your tone but I feel it's doesn't really affect the guitar tone very much. Maybe slightly. I give it a 10 for the sound quality alone even if it isn't true bypassed and even if there's miniscule noise from it. But it can be made true bypassed, there's an article on this at the fulltone website and maybe one day I'll get it done after all. Then the tone would probably be greater than 10? But for what it's worth, it's a superb wah.

You can use it two ways, before the distortion and after distortion. Both give you different yet wonderful sounds but I prefer to use it before distiortion since there's only room in my pedalboard there. But all this is subjective to the players taste. I like it before.

Reliability : 9
I'd gig with it without a backup. Very dependable so long as the battery is not dead I guess. My only gripe is that it's made without ac power input so it can't readily be powered by an ac adapter. But I was told you can remedy this with an ac battery clip. So that'll easily solve this. I'll probably get that soon.

Never had to deal with them so i can't say.

Overall Rating : 10
I play modern rock stuff and alternative these days. I don't really like to chase someone elses tone and I've never heard anybody else'ss wah like this. So I like the original sound I get from it, very refreshing to be frank.

Been playing about ten years and previously I use mainly wah from a multi effects unit which in my opinion isn't that great so it's wonderful to really own a real wah now that I've discarded multi effects and gone individual pedals.

My rig is as follows,

Fender Stratocaster- acoustic simulator, Noise suppressor, Vox wah, compressor, Danelectro Daddy O, Marshall Jackhammer, Equalizer chorus, Reverb/Delay - amp.

I love he tone I get, and I love the chrome look of the Vox, very different from most other people's wah where I come from. Nice.

I chose the Vox for the tone and never looked back since. Tone is everything isn't it?

used like any other wah pedal
switch on and play
the switch on mine is so easy to switch. i never find my self struggling to turn it one/off like on some others i've used.
simple as coke

Sound Quality : 10
my setup includes a '62 silvertone danelectro-dano daddy o- vox wah-dano tuna melt tremolo-korg electribe es1 sampler(used for delay mostly and wierd syncopated trem-type things)- and then into either a danelectro nifty fifty(for practice) or a peavey classic 30.
i find it fits into my setup just perfectly and adds exactly what i'm missing. i haven't found it to be noisey at all probaly cause my dano's make a fair amount of noise.
sounds better than any other wah i've tried(cry baby/morley)
has a very unique tone with lots of highs.
it sounds totally different after drive/distortion than before. when run befor drive the wah is quite 2 dimensional and doesn't quite say "wah" instead it says "oo ah". when run after the drive its very even and alot more intense. to me it sounds alot like tom morellos'(rage against the machine) wah sounds especially like the beggining of "testify".
i like using it to control feedback with tremolo.
it sounds quite wacked
i love it

Reliability : 9
this things built like a tank allthough the day i bought it on of the little rubber feet on the rocker pedal fell off. i just crazy glued it back on and didn't worry to much.
i'd gig with it without a backup as long as the batteries good.
its a huge pain in the arse to tear off the bottom to change the battery.

i play mostly original experimental rock/funk/blues type of music(ie. gomez, radiohead) and occasionally some electronic styles like drum&bass and trip hop. i've played around 5 or 6 years. i think i would be lost without it. i use it so much that its a part of my sound. i use it for everything for normal wah-wah stuff and filter type effects. i've run everything through it from bass(not bad low end response at all) to grand pianos to mini moogs and it sounds great and adds character to everything.
honestly the first thing that attracted me to this pedal was the fact that it's covered in union jacks.(i actually went to buy strings and bought it instead)
i love it like i love coke
love god, love coke, love always

Standard wah pedal, just click it on or off with your foot. Anyone can do it...

Sound Quality : 9
When I first got it I wasn't really pleased with the sound. There was too much high end and I noticed some tone-sucking 'cause this baby ain't true bypassed. One thing that really helped was changing the position of the pot (you can shift the frequency area in which the wah is effective, 'cause the pot has a greater range than just the up and down position of the pedal) This really gets those nasty highs out of the way.. The other thing was installing a DPDT-switch to make it true bypass. You can find tons of schematics for this on the net..
I use it(like most players) as the first pedal in the chain and it works great. You can really get sustained notes when you use the right amount of distortion. The Vox just sounds better than the (usual) cry babies and hendrix wah's. My best advise is: COMPARE!! Get them all in line and use your ears..

Reliability : 9
Haven't had any trouble with this one and I'm pretty confident that it will keep me happy for a long time

I play blues, soul, some rock, funk for quite a while.
This is a very steady pedal, like I said before: it just sounds good (when modded like above)

Well, mine has been bought used and the pot was scratchy so I got myself a Crybaby pot instead. I guess that should not change nothing to the sound because a 100k pot is a 100k f*cking pot, no matter how you look at it. And I know I got ripped cause a f*cking pot is 2$ unless it is a 35$ "Dunlop Hot Potz" (WOW!! Big f*cking deal here...).
Well a wha is a wha and for those who don't know what a wha feels like well, it's a lot of fun. In fact, a wha is not just a step and play thing, the wha feels need to be connected to your mind somehow... I'm getting esoteric here damm.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I'm using a transistor amp which is not that bad (amp distortion for now) I have a couple other guitar toys here and there but they mostly serve as paper holders for now because I am into jazz over the head. The point however is that there is like two worlds: the kingdom of the Clean and the realm of the Fuzz. In fact, in the kingdom of the Clean, everything is nice, bird are singing, the swells are nice and follow your feet motion pretty well... 10 out of 10. With distortion however, the thing somehow sucks: there is no definition and just two sound along the pedal which split the sound in two halves (high end wich is disgusting and bottom end which is really disgusting)... 3.5 out of 10. I guess that this is because I use it with the amp distortion so that I wha the sound after the distortion.

Reliability : 8
Use your brain and a screwdriver and you can tweak it as you want. You can adjust the pot if you want less high end (I did it). A pot usually takes 2-3 years before f*cking up. Nobody can pretend (like fulltone) that their mighty pot can last twice as long... A pot is a pot period.
Because wha are mechanical, they are not as reliable as other type of pedals but the metal casing is pretty killer though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
F*ck Dunlop or Vox anyway

Overall Rating : 10
I wish I would have buy the second version of the Budda (which could be used as a volume pedal) but it cost a lot. In fact I might trade it one day or something. The vox is a very killer wha and I guess this is the ultimate wha to have (with the Budda). I haven't modded it yet mostly because the lack of DPDT switch in my area but I think that too many people have the "true-bypass placebo effect syndrom".

Wah Pedal... pretty self explanatory...

Sound Quality : 9
My guitars are Fender Custom Shop 1958 Strat, Fender Custom Shop Custom Classic Strat, PRS McCarty & Ernie Ball/Music Man EVH model. Amps are Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4x10, Fender 65 Twin Reverb & Marshall JCM2000 TSL602. Guitar --> Ernie Ball Vol Pedal --> Vox Wah --> Ibanez TS9DX --> Ibanez TS9 --> BOSS DS-1 --> BOSS CH-1 --> Danelectro Echo --> BOSS DD-3 --> Morley A/B/C switch --> amps.

The Vox is pretty good... Not that noisy and has very useful sound (for me anyway). Good vintage/classic wah sound range from Hendrix to SRV to more modern sound. It's good for my liking.. but I give it a 9/10 coz I haven't tried the Fulltone Cylde Wah yet.. and I'm sure there's room for improvement.

By the way, I had to put in the true bypass to get it to my liking.

Reliability : 9
Had it for over a year now and still going strong...

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with them... yet.

Overall Rating : 9
I play anything from country to jazz to blues to hard rock... and I'm very happy with it. I've been playing for almost 10 years and have tried (some owned) Jim Dunlop Crybaby, 535, 535Q, 95Q and the Hendrix model.. as well as Morley's Bad Horsie and Pro-series wah... all in all, this has the best wah sound I've ever had the chance to play.

I'd buy this again if it was stolen.

Just wish it had true bypass from the factory... otherwise, i like it the way it is.

Potentiometer died after about 2 years. See following note.

Customer Support : 3
Ok, here's why I posted. I bought this reissue unit when it first came out about, oh 9 years ago or so. The potentiometer began failing after about 2 years. I replaced it myself, with the factory replacement, and it died again, about a year later. At this point, I left it on my shelf for about 4 years or so and went wah-less. I finally caved and asked Vox to repair it. **DUNLOP IS THE REPAIR CENTER FOR THESE UNITS**. And they took their sweet time fixing it. All in all they had it for about 4 weeks (one month!) before they fixed it and shipped it back to me. I won't go into details, but they appeared to have some staffing issues at the time and enjoyed blowing me off. Never-the-less, when I got it back it sounded better than it did when I got it. The pedal has been solid for about 2 years now. So keep in mind if you contact "Vox" for a repair you're likely speaking with Dunlop.

Overall Rating : 5
Great sounding pedal, poor customer support. I jam on Rock N' Metal with my buddies on a regular basis. I've been playing for about 11 years and still think it's a great sounding pedal, even with all the multi-wah's that have since come out. If it does fail once again, I'll likely get a "switchless" Morley for obvious reasons!

Rock on friends.

Step on switch and move foot to sweep frequencies. May take some time to get the rhythm down.

Sound Quality : 10
Mine sounds great after i put in a true bypass switch (fulltone.com has them). This pedal is the true Hendrix/SRV wah pedal unlike the dunlop version. My setup is 60 or 70 strat>>Fuzz Face>>Vox Wah>>Boss Blues Driver>>Custom made Octave pedal>>Fender Hot Rod 1X12 into a Marshall Greenback loaded 4X12 cab. The Fuzz before the wah sounds great and i just switch between that and the Blues Driver for a wide range of tones. Once you install a true bypass it is the perfect wah pedal. The standard switch makes you signal muddy. Sounds great with overdrive, distortion, fuzz, and great clean.

Reliability : 10
It is built like a tank and i would use it with out a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt with them

Overall Rating : 9
I like to play the classic rock and blues and this pedal is perfect. I always grab this pedal when heading to a jam session. When i went to the music store and tried out a few different dunlop wahs and a budda wah and i liked the vox and the budda but had to go with the vox because of the lower price and i can just install a bypass myselfinstead of coughing up the money for the budda. This pedal gives me the sound of Robin Trower one of my favorite guitarists. If you like classic rock or anything with wha this is definately the pedal. If anybody knows where i can find another marshall 4X12 with greenbacks contact me.

very easy to use. doesn't take much to switch it on or off. battery is easy to get to. couldn't be much simpler.

Sound Quality : 9
sounds great. I play it with a strat and run it in front of a fuzz face to a marshall dsl 50. It really makes the high notes stand out. Makes any distortion "cut" enough to be heard no matter what the volume of the band is and adds just a touch of sustain to your tone. Sounds good by itself (if you like a clean wah sound) but its true colors are shown when it is used with distortion or overdrive. If your tone is too muddy no matter what you do this could solve your problem. The only problem I can see is that it doesn't have a true by-pass and it would be nice if you didn't have turn the volume all the way down or keep your fingers on the strings to prevent the feedback at high volumes, but the sound is worth it. I would consider modifying it and getting a true bypass switch put in.

Reliability : 9
Has never let me down. I change the battery about once every six months. It built pretty tuff. I don't think you would have any problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't had to deal with them and probably wouldn't.

Overall Rating : 9
I like a hendrix-vaughan sound so the vox is perfect for my setup. Actually it is essential.I could see where you may not like it if you play heavier styles but for 60's 70's rock it is perfect. It just really makes your setup come to life. If you want to hear how a wah should sound get a vox. Yeah your going to pay more for it but it is worth it to me to get the better product. Think about it hendrix vaughan, clapton all used it. That should tell you something

This is the easiest wah I've ever used. I wish I had tried this one first -- I've never owned a wah-wah before because I had always borrowed Cry Babies from friends. And, while I could get the Cry Baby to sound pretty good with my Strat, I couldn't get a clean wah out of it with my Les Paul -- but the Vox is capable of giving me clean with both guitars. The action is good too -- not too stiff, not too loose.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a 50' re-issue Strat and a Les Paul in front of either a Marshall SLX 4100, '74 Fender Vibrolux, or a Vox Pathfinder with it's lineout going to a PA system. It is very musical and very versatile -- will give good clean wah (like Shaft) or will dirty up with overdrive or distorion for Cream or Hendrix. Not as harsh as a Cry Baby and has a more usefull range through out the travel of the pedal.

Reliability : No Opinion
Not an issue with me -- I only use effects to enhance and color -- if they die during a performance, it just pushes me to play more expressively through my hands.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
Okay, here's the deal -- as many others have stated in their posts here, this re-issue of the V847 does not contain true bypass as did the original units, and it DOES need to be modified for true bypass if you're performing or recording. Shame on Vox/Korg for selling a hundred dollar pedal and replacing the true bypass switch for a cheaper non-bypass one. For one hundred dollars, I expect the damn thing to have a true bypass switch (I got it for $88 because I had a $11-off coupon at Guitar Center)

And here's the ridiculous thing -- they give you this big ole, thick vinyl, retro case for the pedal (black w/white piping -- reminds me of the seats of my '67 MGB)! Cheeeeeeese! C'mon Vox/Korg, take the few cents from what you're spending on the case and give us a true bypass switch instead!!!

The cheapest true bypass switch I could find on the internet was at Ampwares.com, it was the Arrow DPDT that cost $8.00 plus $5.00 S&H. So, there's another $13.00 added to the total cost of this already over-priced pedal. Still, because it is the most versatile and best sounding wah pedal I've ever used, I can only take off one point from the overall rating, but let it be know that as far as value for money goes, I would give it a "5"
