It needs a little extra effort in the toe to turn the thing on and off, but that's preferable to it being overly sensitive and turning off mid wah.

My one knock is the sweep is a bit short. It takes some finite motor skills to be able to lightly move from top to bottom evenly.

Sound Quality : 9
I like this pre-overdrive. The experts tell you it should be after the drive but I find a bit more snarl in the lower register when it's early in the chain. I play a Rick 360 and combined with some nice nasty fuzz (I use a Big Muff) you can get a real gutsy growl towards the back of the rocker. The higher side of this is really nice and nasally, and I'll just leave it on this position for some lo-fi riffs that pierce anything else sharing the stage with you (listen to the Black Lips for an idea of what pure lo-fi treble sounds like). I get some white noise in the top half of the sweep, but the tone is what makes this pedal great.

Reliability : 10
I bought this in 1997, I've had no problems.

I play indie dance pop and I typically don't rock this around Hendrix style. I love this pedal for its tone and I use it a lot as an EQ filter. Just leave it in the treble position or towards the bottom there is a sweet spot where you get some great harmonics and paired with a nice fuzz just snarls and chirps.

No other pedal is easier to use, push down on the treddle and away you go!

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quailty is fantastic. Mine was second hand and had a crackley pot, but some contact cleaner sorted that out. Since then it has never given me any trouble.
The sweep is far better than any other wah I've played. The travel isn't too far as can be the case with Snarling Dogs or Colorsound and the frequency range is much better than a crybaby.
Its not as vowel sounding as the Snarling Dogs but is far more organicand suits my playing style.
I play a Gibson SG Standard through a 80's Fuzzface - Jim Dunlop Rotovibe - Vox Wah - Digitech Digidelay - 1970's Carlsbro Top 50 amp, so the wah gives me the perfect late 60's/early 70's sound that I'm after!

Reliability : 9
I gig with it on a regular basis and it doesn't let me down.

I've been playing for 10 years and have been regularily gigging for 8 using quite a few different wah pedals and this is the one that I would recommend to anyone.
If it where stolen I would have to replace it

step on it to click. easiest of all the FX pedals!

Strats, tube amps, other stomps...overall, a very conservative, single coil setup. Lots and lots of rhythm guitar all night, a couple of times a week...It's my all-time favorite wahwah. I play a wide variety of music and this can get the "Theme from Shaft"- and "Poppa Was a Rolling Stone"--all the way to "White Room" and "Voodoo Chile." In comparison to the Crybaby gcb95, it does not have the earpiercing treble that that unit can have. This is a more throaty, phlegmy sounding wah that is great with overdrive, but really, really shines when played funy and clean!

Reliability : 10

When I furst bought this pedal about 5 years ago, i thought this was great. i tried it against every wah sam ash had in the store that day. It has been the first pedal on my board since then.

recently I have been getting into the whole "true byapss" thing. I found mod instructions and a figure on the fulltone website (under tips and tricks)

This mod cost me about $16 for a carling switch and about an hour or so to get all the steps completed.

when I was done not only did I noticve a SIGNIFICANT change in the voicing of my setup, but my non-musician neighbors were literally wowing ove rthe change in tone. My suggestion do the fulltone mod.

Just got it today and it took some time to figure out all the mods but pretty straight forward and intuitive. It will be interesting to see how it reacts to a different guitar, playing a Gibson L6-S right now but am hoping to construct another frankenstrat soon, I tend to lean more toward the single coils but was able to get some amazing tones from it so far

Sound Quality : 10
Wow!!!...it's quiet for one thing when switching it on and off...no "pop" like my last cry baby. The tones and variation will be fun to experiment with with, all seem quite usable. The volume/mid control is pretty powerful with the humbuckers and got some sweet sounding honking/break up when turned up. It definitely sounds like a high quality unit...good enough that I just sent my TS-9 and MT-2 to them.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's too early to say but my suspicion is that it'll be a "10". It's a solid pedal to begin with and the quality of the switches, knobs, etc seem pretty bomb proof.

Customer Support : 10
Very nice on the phone... I bought this VOX off ebay but spoke with them about working on the pedals I sent them. Helpful and friendly.

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly jammy stuff, not too over the top distortion wise, which is odd beacuse I love the MT-2 and am really looking forward to hearing it after they're done with it. Of course the wah is great for the whole trippy sounding leads and funky rhythms. There's a learning curve with every new pedal...this one seems pretty easy and once I really get to figuring it out I'm sure I'll enjoy the range of different sounds for different settings. Right now I'm running this pedal > MT-2 > TS-9> EH Micro POG > Ernie Ball Volume > Line6 Echo Park > Fender Twin '65 Reissue. Like I said, I'm playing the Gibson right now but usually have a strat and really prefer them to the Gibson for most stuff.

A lot was said about this beautiful device.

Sound Quality : 8
It is urgent to mention that we can TUNE the sweep on the VOX V847. Mine sounded too trebly and quite harsh on the down position.
I had to develop a sweeping technique avoiding the extreme highs and learnt to stay very gentle, very "middle" on the pedal.
Now if you open the box (like for changing the battery) you'll find that you can change the range of the extreme frequencies by holding back the little plastic piece connecting the foot plate and setting it on to a different position on the sweeping axe.
You can then make the high frequencies out of reach.
It is fairly easy, just unscrew the while plastic holder and set the new position on the axe. Try this before you go for soldering !

YES, the real-bypass recommandation is a MUST-DO !!

Also, isolate the connections with some tape. Some wires are VERY sensitive to ground.

Reliability : 10

I play rock, hard rock and funky. For my taste, this pedal is superior in sound quality to the classic Cry Baby. I can nail great solos with it. Excellent for funky stuff too. But still i think the sound could be somehow smoother/creamier.

Pretty easy to use once use. Just one button on/off. No extra bells and whistles is nice. But, you may need to make some minor adjustments to get a nice sweep range.

Sound Quality : 9
This is a really nice sounding wah pedal. Granted, it is not true bypass, so I do notice a slight alteration of tone, but nothing major. I play a 60th Anniversary Tele with this pedal through a Traynor YCV40. It makes a really nice combo. Switching pickups alters the character of the wah quite dramatically. The front pickup gives a nice smooth sweep, with little harshness. Solo the bridge pup and this thing bites and growls. Using both pups gives a nice middle of the road.

Reliability : 5
Here is where things get interesting. After reading the reviews on this site I bought this pedal. Seemed like an easy choice.

I plugged it in and "screech!!". What was that? I opened it up and adjusted the input contacts, problem solved. They needed a slight tweeking to make solid contact with the cable.

Next, I turned it on and swept from low to high. Hmmm... Where is the high end? About the first half of the sweep made no change in tone whatsoever. OK, let me see here. I opened it back up, removed the plastic retaining mechanism resting against the geared arm that moves the tone pot gears and after a few adjustments more, I found the sweet spot. No problems. I took the advice of a few others and then removed the felt pad to increase the range of the pedal even more. If you do this, just make sure that at the furthest point when engaging the switch that there is room for the gears to move.

THis pedal must have slipped through without being checked. If I were not a tinkering kinda person, this pedal would have been immediately returned.

If you have problems with sweep range out of teh box, check this adjustment.

never used it.

I have been playing music for over twenty years. I started as a bassist and have gradually moved into playing guitar as well over the last 10 or so years. I play a blend of indie rock. And this pedal works just fine for my style of music. From a little wah on clean tele tones to downright distorted mayhem, this pedal does it all.

I really do like this pedal. It has a great look and feel under the foot. The tone is nice (more mods planned) and now that I have "fixed it" it appears to be quite reliable.

The only thing I wish this pedal had would be a little more consideration at the end of the assembly line.

Very easy to use. Only a switch! You can get great wah sounds out of this pedal in about 10 minutes.

Sound Quality : 8
The sound the 847 produces is fantastic. Very Hendrix kind of sound with good body and definition. The only thing I can complain about it is not a true bypass pedal but you can solve that issue installing a Dpdt switch. Pedaldoc is selling kits to do this easily and there are thousands of sites that also show you how to do the mod and where to get switches.

I usually place my 847 before my distortion pedals although I am currently considering to place it after my Ds1 as Hendrix did.

Reliability : 8
Very sturdy stell case. This thing should last many years. The only problem seems to be the pot as apparently gets scrachy after a few years and need to be changed.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I never called or contacted Vox. The pedal has always worked well.

Overall Rating : 9
Great pedal appart from the true bypass issue. Good sound, very hard still case, good looks, what else?

The price is a bit to high once you remove the lid to change the battery and see what is inside...

It's a conventional wah pedal. Press all the way forward to switch it on or off and tilt it forward or backward to sweep.

Sound Quality : 8
I like the sound of this pedal a lot (nice range and never too harsh) but one thing that I don't like is how noisy it is when I have my amp turned up. It's not horrible but there is a noticeable buzz, even with distortion/overdrive off. Even my amp's subtle noise gate doesn't quite take care of it.

Reliability : 9
Seems pretty reliable. It has the standard Vox/CryBaby/Budda-style casing. The wiring inside seems a little flymsy but I'm sure it would be fine.

Customer Support : 9
I emailed them about a replacement part and they responded pretty quickly.

Overall Rating : 8
It's a good pedal but it can be a little noisy and doesn't have a jack for a power adapter. Even the $15 Danelectro Fab pedals have power jacks! It doesn't have a battery door either, like some of the Dunlop wahs do.

Overall I really like the sound of this pedal (which is all that really counts) but its cost may have more to do with the Vox logo than what you get. Even after modding the pedal to use a Fasel inductor, metal film resistors and a power jack, I'm still not sure that it's any better than some of the Cry Baby pedals in the same price range. If I could go back, I still would have bought it but I'm glab that I bought it used.

AWESOME!!! This is the original that Clapton and Hendrix used. I think it's better than the Dunlop Crybaby. The Crybaby is way too trebly and often times cuts your tone and sound in half. The only other Crybaby that compares is the the Classic Crybaby and that's because is has Fasel inductor. This pedal is just perfect; not too trebly, and not too bassy. It's smooth and perfect for funk and killer rock solos.

This has got to be the industry standard non-boutiuqe wah - it's been around longer than me - and the reason..... it sounds GOOD! when you look at it the physical sweep of the pedal doesn't look that impressive - but at the top of the travel you get that famous vocal change in sound that can be maniulated and in fact does translate into a wide sweep of warm musical sound!.

Sound Quality : 8
I play a strat older MIJ strat with texas specials w /orres-blues kaster mod and a custom strat like guitar(chandler carved top one piece) with a single P90 retrofit - I'm using this First in my effects VOX V847 > rocktron big crush > maxon 808 (like ts9) > eq > older ibanez delay > vintage vibro champ (class A) running 2x10s weber alnicos (yEaH)- before i introduced the Vox i tried morley and dime bag cry baby from hell and HANDS DOWN the VOX was best suited for my setup - i ended up selling the crybaby I'm sure it's right for someone (those guys gotta make living too) just not what i'm tryin to do - VOX was just warmer and more musical to me - MADE ME sound better ( i know hard to believe) - inspires me to play over my head. It's NOT a boutiqe! i can't give it a 10 for sound quality but for the money it is THE BEST your gonna find IMHO -

(and it WILL need true bypass mod installed COUNT ON IT!) i'll give this a realistic 8 but it's the best 8 your ever gonna hear! the boutiqes get the 10's but thats why they get the big bucks too.

Reliability : 9
These are tried and true reliable and then some , not plastic don't have to worry that you might crack it when you step on it (lol)
i would gig without a backup as long as it has a fresh battery(cmon).

been playin for many moons, if were lost i'd get another as fast as i could, it doesnt have any fancy features or gimiicks but it DOES have solid tone! i don't know bout you, but what good are fancy features if the tone's not there?? I 86'd the dimebag CBH it had lots of features?

IF money is no object then by all means check out the Teese line up of hand built wahs also try the fulltone clydes, also how bout a loan from your trust fund ? I wish it had other features but if you really want em, you can have the vox modded by several reputable Co's including Robert Keeley (super reputable) and have - true bypass - fulltone pot - ext vol control - different fasel red/yellow inductors even switchable - LED - DC jack - change resistors / capacitors to change the voice - of course by the time you add all that up you may as well have bought a teese - unless you do it yourself or over a long period of time - and AGAIN you WILL absoloutly NEED the true bypass done if you cant do it your self -or use a looper box - but imho if your on any knid of a budget - this is THE wah for the money (modifiable at any time) that will not break the bank - the better your existing setup the more this pedal will shine - if you got korean guitar and soid state amp w/ a 8 inch speaker - i dont know this pedal might still sound good - compared to the competetion - but if you have 335 into a plexi you can afford the teese - but if your in between like me ;) - you will not be sorry - it isnt like you can't swap it if you dont agree - im just saying imho it's the bomb!

I'll save the 10's for Teese, or Fulltone

it's NOT a 10 but it is the wah im using and i sound GOOD! and if you do the mods it COULD be a 10. - im just saying.

Sound Quality : 10
I would give this section and 11 if I could. I put this first in my setup before all my other pedals and it sounds great even with all of them on. By itself it is without a doubt the greatest wah pedal I have ever used. Vox has given me that tone I want and so much more. I was disappointed with the Crybaby because it didn't give me the tone I needed. The only brandS I can think of that may come in second to Vox is the Ibanez pedals or the Morley Bad Horsie wahs.

This thing is made out of pure metal. I would trust this pedal to outlive me. I would break down and cry if I had it lost or stolen, then I would go out and buy three more.

I bought this pedal because Hendrix used it and I learned that he had great taste in pedals. I have been able to use this pedal for everything including Acid Rock, Reggae, Ska, Funk, Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Grunge and Blues

I have been playing for three years and I've played with almost every wah pedal on the market. From the worst of wahs by Digitech and Boss to some of the better ones by Morley and Ibanez but Vox beats them all into the ground.

Funny that lot of people talk about jimi hendrix and true bypass, while all the wha's of jimi were not true bypass.
so? the sound is good a little different from the great v846, but, the tone don't looses intensity, the switch is silent, battery goes much longer and the sound is not as noisy as the other.
if you move the range your tones will be also different.
i use a strat 68, fender prevalv, axis fuzz of roger mayer and sometimes a few digital crap stuff.
oof course maybe a clyde of fulltone sounds cleaner, but it has also 3 switches to choose your range, finaly if you want just this modulation effect it is perfect and much depends on the product too.

i've been playing for 15 years, especialy classical, but also rock and latinjazz
i adore jimi's sound and all that vintage stuff
it is a good wah wah, they have almost 50 year experience
i also used others wah like jd jimi hendrix (was too extreme in high tones, so when you had to switch the sound had to fall violently), then crybabies (are a little without personality, the low tones are not clear and how more gain or distortion you use how less difference you'll note)
this pedal is good with fuzz, not so good with hard distortion & gain.
I invite you to use it with a good fuzz of roger mayer or fulltone 69
and you'll get what you need.

Been playing for 30 years. I use: JS1000 > wah wah > Tubescreamer > Triaxis > VHT Two/Fifty/Two.
I've had this for a year and just recently noticed how it sucks tone when plugged in, but not activated. My discovery was made when re-arranging my pedal board and had the wah wah set aside, not plugged in. I noticed a considerable difference in my tone. More color and stronger signal. I wish I had noticed this a long time ago. I'm going to install a true bypass. I suggest buying a Carling DPDT 316-PP switch to replace the original. Go to Fulltone.com for wiring instructions (thanks for the tip, Jeremy Skrenes!) For a measly $8.95, I'm getting my tone back.
Wish it had a power adapter jack.

it's a wah pedal. click it on, click it off. move your foot back and forth. congratulations, you can operate it. putting it at or near the front of your chain works best almost every time.

Sound Quality : 9
i'm giving this wah a solid 9, based on the mods i have done to it to improve sweep, volume, bass, gain, and reduce treble harshness. the 847 stock is okay, it is servicable to your board but can be a little harsh on the treble side to my ears, especially when combined with a fuzz or other gain pedal afterwards in the chain.

but, and i'll contradict everything skinnyjay said in his review before me, IF YOU MAKE SIMPLE AND CHEAP MODS TO THIS STOCK PEDAL YOU WILL FIND WAH WAH HEAVEN. just take the time and effort to look it up on the internet. there are plenty of suggestions for mods to resistors and caps that change the pedal's tone. this is true of any wah, really. they can all be adapted to fit certain situations, tone needs or to please your particular ears. to buy a wah like this vox, or any pedal really, and to use it stock without making adjustments is not wise. but with the mods i did, i promise you my vox 847 rocks and could be put up against boutique wahs, and still hold its own. it's that good!

the choice is yours: you can buy a higher-end wah and spend the money up front, or you can buy a solidly built, pretty good cheaper wah like the 847 or a Crybaby and then modify them to suit your tastes. i did the latter before investing in a Fulltone, and i'm glad i did. i have exactly what i want now.

one warning though: when it comes to mods, there's no one size fits all. i went through 2 stages of modifications. after the first set, i had a little too much volume gain and the high end was still a little biting. i changed the resistors again and fixed those problems with slight adjustments in values. read up on these things and you can do them yourself with a solder gun and a steady hand, or (like me) take them to your friendly, neighborhood guitar tech and let him go to work. a wah wah's circuit board is VERY EASY to pull out and work on. SO DO IT!

oh yeah, standard stock for this pedal right out of the box i would give it a 6.5 or 7. it's not bad, but it's not great either. i probably wouldn't give anything a 10 ever, so my 9 here means a lot. i also added the TRUE BYPASS switch to mine, which makes one helluva big difference to preventing tone sucking (which is notorious in wah pedals without one). very important to do that, so do it as well.

Reliability : 9
so far so good. a Vox wah is built pretty solid and there's not much to go bad on one that can't be fixed in a jiffy.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never have, never will. my customer support is my guitar tech guy. if you don't have one that you're up close and personal with, then good luck if you're not a handyman yourself.

Overall Rating : 9
i play blues rock and psychedelic San Fran style jamming in a band. i have used this pedal for about a year and a half. it fits well with the music we play, and i use it alot. with mods and the properly ordered pedal chain, it will fit well with a good fuzz/distortion pedal and a delay to give you some very "far out" tones. i have freaked out my bandmates with some of my guitar noise.

making mods is a trial and error type thing. be patient and you can customize a pedal to suit your own tastes. you don't have to pay $200 for a boutique name to have a boutique quality pedal. you really don't. and i have nothing personal against boutique companies; they're great if you have the cash to spend. myself? i love a bargain, and the vox 847 is one (although you have to invest another $30-40 on parts, mainly the true bypass switch). i think the pot that comes with it is fine myself, unless yours is worn out i wouldn't mess with it.

if the strat is the most modifiable guitar, the wah is the most modifiable guitar pedal. to use it stock, unless it's boutique or something, makes no sense at all to me. other people have done the work to offer suggestions for resistor changes, why not use their advice?

i think the Crybaby has a little more gain and bite to it than the Vox. the 847 to me has more of a classic funky sound. i'm not putting one over the other; they both can be great. it's just up to your ears. all i know is, Jimi used a Vox (it was a Clyde though i think) and Clapton used a Vox. that's enough endorsement for me.

i'd love to try a Fulltone Clyde just for a taste test (and almost bought one once just to try), but i can't justify selling my 847 for something so expensive. i can't imagine it would sound that better. i now have a wah modified exactly the way i want it and with true bypass. what more do i need? it works great as it is.

btw, the 847 does not have an external power supply connection. but guess what? you can modify it to put one in. i didn't, but there are instructions on the internet for doing so.

It seems I payed all that money for some pretty chrome and a name. A name by the way that's owned by KORG. Reguardless, this is one over- rated wah. First, it has an extremely narrow range i.e. "not very wah sounding." I like my wah with a side of bacon, know what I mean? FAT. This pedal is very thin with very little bottom end. TOO Nasal would properly discribe it.

Reliability : 8
The rubber bummer pegs underneath the rocker part all became dislodged. I fixed them with super glue. Otherwise it works fine.

Never bothered. No sense in complaining about what is inherently flawed. I mean it works, but it still sucks.

Overall Rating : 5
Listen, if you want a good wah on the cheap get a plain old cry baby. Seriously. Don't bother with this thing. This is not the same pedal made famous by our heros. In fact it's completly different. What SHOULD you do? Well I bought a used budda wah for about $120, and it was exactly what I expect a wah to sound like. They're better than a cry baby (although far more expensive new), as the budda has none of the harshness, and has a broad range of frequency. I realize this is all subjective, but you can't deny what isn't there.

All you have to do is rock it back and forth and press harder for bypass... so I guess I'll give it a 10

Sound Quality : 9
I bought It used on ebay and I guess it was used a lot. I LOVE this thing, but this wasn't the case at first. I'm kind of a tone freak and I like to experiment with parts. anyways here's a recap... The pot that came with it was ironically... a dunlop! it was an old hot potz by clarostat or something like that. It was scratchy and uneven in sweep. I replaced it with a fulltone clyde pot (ICAR taper) problem solved. It cleaned up the noise and the sweep is beautiful. Sounds great now. But I wasn't satisfied! I wanted a deeper, richer tone!

I did some research about components and decided to replace the the stock resistors (metal or carbon film) with carbon composition resistors. This gave it a little more growl because these resistors distort a little bit when they are driven. I replaced the mylar caps with Orange drops. This was probably the single best improvement in tone. The sound difference was amazing. I also replaced the Inductor with a 500mh fulltone clyde inductor. (by the way I'm not a fulltone dealer or rep. I just used them Because I heard they're good)

It is so much better now with these mods, but there's more coming:
I am about to install true bypass in it, a DC jack plus higher quality BC-109 Transistors etc.... I could spend hundreds on this pedal. It's now almost up to boutique wah standards.

Low noise, works well with my tubescreamer and fuzzface. I use a strat and a '74 twin amp. sounds like clapton, page, SRV, hendrix... Stock I would have rated it 6 or seven Now it's 9 because it's very vocal,, it says Wah. It will be 10 when I'm finished modding it.

Reliability : 9
Built like a tank, I can depend on it. I don't think it should ever quit especially when I get the power supply. So I give it a 9

Great for blues and classic rock.
Been playing for about 2 years.
Would probably buy a modded wah if lost or stolen, to save money.
Love the sound, Looks awesome, some of the stock parts were cheap.
I thought the stock sound is better than the crybaby, ibanez and morley wahs.
Wish it had an LED. Great expression tool. Overall 8 . sounds great but it's very basic in terms of features.

Its really easy to stomp on, before i bought this i tried a Jim Dunlop Crybaby original which was great but it was almost impossible to stomp on it so its not 100% you get it on everytime, thats why the vox wah wahs are better

My guitar is a Les Paul(Epiphone) and my amplifier is a Marshall MG 15DFX, the pedal sounds great clean but when distorted it makes noise when you push it down, i solved this by buying a Boss noise supressor pedal and now the wah pedal doesnt make a sound even if distorted, i suggest you buy this wah wah and Boss NS2 to make it quiet(also kills the hum without affecting your tone). I can play the Voodoo Child intro with this pedal so choose this wah wah Tank.

ive been playing about one year now, i also have a boss Equalizer GE6

It helps me making funkier solos. PEOPLE DONT WHINE ABOUT THE DISTORTION NOISE JUST BUY THE BOSS NS2 IT KILLS ALL THE HUM OF PEDALS AND PICKUPS GUARANTEED

Ok, here is the issue. This wha will suck some top end tone if you use a setup like mine. I'm only writing this cause i could'nt find much info on this problem and maybe it will help others struggling w/ this problem. The setup: les paul w/ tom anderson hot pickups to vox wha to ts9 tube screamer to a/b box out to tuner or amp. The amp being a 1977 marshall mkll w/ no master volume. I tried every combo from guitar to amp and it is defently the wha. If your battery is super fresh you can get by for a while with just a hint of tone loss, but in the end your gunna notice the diffrence. I don't like worrying while I play. A simple process of elemination has bore this out. Trust me i put the time in on the floor listing. The wha needs to have true bypass in order to eleiminate the problem. I don't know about fenders or any other amp combonations. It might not re-act with those amps. For those of you who have a problem as I do the solution is a true bypass mod. It's cheap, mine was 25.00. Once done ya gunna love this wha. I also put a ac adpator later just so I didn't have to deal exlusivley with batteries for all of the effects and tuner

Reliability : 10
Other than the above situation I have had this wha for 10 years. No problems ever after or before the alteration.

I tried the web site for vox a long time ago. They never got back to me.

I give it a 6 if you don't do the mod and play with my type of set up. After the mod I give it a 10. I love the tone, sweep and overall voice this wha has. I had a crybaby but got rid of it cause I thought the voice was a little glassy. The vox sounds like a hard drink prostitute!!!

This is the wah to end all wahs. It is your ordinary click on, click off, so it is very easy to use. It takes a little bit of weight to click it, but I have only been playing it 30 minutes out of the box, so it probably needs a little breaking in.

Sound Quality : 10
I run a 1996 Fender TexMex Strat (My #1 Strat) Through the Vox Wah, Then Through a Digitech Bad Monkey Tube Overdrive, and into a Fender Princeton amp. This wah is a jewel. It is ghost quiet when off and it has a great sweep to it. Hendrix used one and I believe Page uses one, I understand why. You can get the signature sound of these artists and many others. A very versatile pedal. This tube distortion pedal I have sounds very good behind the wah, and I am sure that it will sound great with the Big Muff I am getting soon.

This is a review for a modded Vox Wah. Keep reading.
It has internal trims for adjusting Q, volume, mid, bass, gain. You don't need a manual. It's true bypass (very important in my book.)

Sound Quality : 10
let's see:
Custom Shop Strat> fulltone 69 fuzz> modded Vox> Keeley Comp> Keeley Tube Screamer> Barber DirecDrive> DejaVibe> into Fender Reissue 59 Bassman.
I play blues and rock and I'm very picky about my tone.

I own and tried other wahs including RMC, Clyde Deluxe, 535q, 535 chrome, and unmodded Vox847... This is the BEST WAH period! I sold my other wahs coz I don't need them anymore!

I found this on ebay. Search for user "Garmopat" on ebay. (write this down.) Check out his Vox mod. You'll love it. This is an adjustable wah like the rmc and others but guess what, with that wonderful signature Vox tone and sweep!

I spent hours trying to nail the perfect wah tone with other wahs, and I was never totally happy. It took me two minutes to get the SRV, Hendrix wah tones with this pedal. I sometimes adjust the internal controls for a more aggresive tone.

Can't tell you enough about how much I like this modded vox; guess I should call it "the Garmopat Mod". Its permanent on my pedalboard.

it also has this little swich on the side, so the pedal doesn't eat up the battery when the jack is inserted, great idea!

Reliability : No Opinion
Looks reliable. came with a black carrying bag, so you can use that if you don't use a pedalboard.

dont know about the company. but I emailed garmopat five times, and he responded the same day. he was very kind, and helpful.

first of all, the crybaby has been around since the late sixties. it was until the early 80's that dunlop bought the rights to it. hendrix used a crybaby also, but he didnt use a dunlop. the early italian crybabys sound identical to most vintage vox wahs. it wasnt until they started being produced in california that the sound changed. but not so dramatically. the only upper hand vox has over dunlop is the fact that the jacks arent directly mounted onto the board and they have a sweeter sweep as opposed to a crybaby.

I use a 58 les paul ressue, 1967 SG special, and a fender american deluxe strat HSS. I have a fender blues junior and a vox 15 watt valvetronix. This pedal is classic, it gives the best Clapton tone with humbuckers and the best Hendrix tone with either humbuckers or single coils. This Pedalis just a classic Why? because it sounds like one, feels like one, and looks like one, also it only says vox just like the originals. I definatley recomend this pedal to anyone who want a classic wah from the 60s.

Reliability : 10
This pedal is built like a tank it probabley will never go down on it hasn't for me. One piece of advice don't keep it in sunlight because that could damage it on mine during one day without turning it on and off it just blancked out and I couldn't here anything but then 1 second later it came back. I wasn't sure if it was the cables or my pedal crapped out butit was both my cable was bad and my pedal was a little to hot from the sun. So don't keep it in the sun and it will be fine.

I would definatley buy this pedal again if it got stolen. I bought this because I had seen clapton and hendrix using voxes and they are my Idols. This will work very well with other pedals such as fulltone 69 and other fuzz/distortion type pedals.

Very simple pedal. Press down hard to turn on/off. Couldn't be easier. Extremely easy to get a good tone out of this. I plug my guitar into the wah than into a Zakk Wylde Overdrive than straight into the amp. Running the guitar into the wah first ensures that a majority of the singal will be "wahed" so to speak.

Sound Quality : 9
Using a PRS Santana SE (the first version the one without the pickguard) this thing sounds awesome coming out of any amp. Reacts and interacts with over effects very well. I've had multiple pedals running into and out of this wah and it still has a great musical sound.

Its definately not as harsh or aburt as a Crybaby. The sweep is also much less. If you play jazz, blues, or classic rock this is the wah pedal for you. Think Jeff Beck "I Ain't Supersitious". You could use this to play heavy metal but you won't get the Hammet or Satch like sound out of it. Granted it still sounds very good with a high-gain amp but it won't sound as good as a Crybaby with a Fasel or one of those newer Crybabies from Hell.

Definately a musical wah that sounds great from clean to medium distortion levels.

Reliability : 9
I've owned the pedal for well over a year, close to 2 actually and I've had no trouble with it.

I'd gig with it and wouldn't bother to bring a backup. There is no AC adapter on it though so keep that in mind and make sure to unplug it when not in use.

Seems pretty hardily built. The chrome and black looks killer. I wear sneakers when I play and have stompped on it fairly hard and its held up well.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need for them and hopefull will never need them.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall this thing is a 9. Sounds are amazing for pretty much any style of music. It gets a half point knock off for only sound "very good" instead of "awesome" on high-gain amps. And another half point off for no AC adapter. If you want a musical sounding wah that's got a classic sound this is your pedal.

What a love about a wah pedal is the simplicity of it. Plug it into your chain and effect (step on and off). Simple as that. I've tried other wah pedals * weeping demon / 535q * and its a hassle to adjust and tweak the knobs to try and alter the tone. At the end of the day, I wanted a versatile vocal sounding wah, without having to adjust knobs and controls everytime i switch channels...

Sound Quality : 10
I love vintage wah sounds and I want my wah to be working just as nice on cleans. The vox does that. The only gripe I have is the true bypass problem. I had mine modded to true bypass and it was perfect! All you need is just a true bypass mod and it'll be the perfect wah for me. I've also modded it to increase the vocal quality even further! and improve its sweep range and bass response. I don't think I'll be searching for another wah for a looong time.

Reliability : 10
Seems sturdy with the black chasis and chrome top. I never ran it over a steamroller but i'm sure it can survive many years of stomping.

All in all, the vox wah pedal is what I was looking for (after the true-bypass mod). I sold away the 535q I bought as it doesn't have the vocality of my 847. Furthermore I didn't want to dabble with knobs and controls everytime I switch channels. At the end of the day, I wanted a plug and play wah pedal that sounds great on cleans and distortions. If this comes with the a true-bypass it'll be the perfect wah for me.

for all the LOSERS out there who whine because "its not true bypass", listen here. Jimi Hendrix, who is probably the most influential guitar player of all time DID NOT HAVE TRUE BYPASS ON ANY ONE OF HIS PEDALS. he sounded good because he's a great player. heck, he had 5x the amount of "tone suckage" as most guys, but sounded that much better BECAUSE OF HIS SKILL

this was the first true wah and the enemy (jim dunlop) say that jimi hendrix used their pedal....(crybaby) well looking back and seeing that they made there first wah around 1980-1984 and jimi god bless him died 1970 hmmmm... you do the math it just doesnt work :D anyway if you are looking for a killer sound like jimmy page, jimi hendrix, joe satriani (he uses jimi dunlop now damn him) tony iommi, or any other music industry turning rock guitarist they used this pedal!!!

10 if it came stocked with true bypass

My rig is a hot-rodded standard stratocaster w/Texas Specials into the V847, into a Boss Blues Driver, into a Peavey Classic 50 2x12. Now for the sound part. For all the reviewers saying that it "sucks all the tone out of my rig", they are full of shit. I have a VERY simple rig so I could definately hear it if it was killing my tone. When bypassed it BARELY, and I emphasize that word, BARELY alters your original tone. If you are really that anal about it, just modify it by going to www.fulltone.com and getting one of the Carling switches installed. For me, it really doesn't hurt my tone at all. It can achieve SRV, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Hendrix, Henry Garza, Clapton, and a whole lot more. I tested it next to every Crybaby imaginable and I preffered this one. It just has that vintage tone.

I play primarily in the style of SRV and KWS, with a little LLB spice ala Henry Garza. I'm getting into Hendrix a great deal and this was the wah he used so I figured, WHAT THE HELL. I've only been playing about 3 years but know enough about tone to know what is good and what is shit. I would definately buy this wah again, because quite frankly, Dunlops are horrible and cheaply made. The only thing that could make this thing better (and every other pedal for that matter...take notes Dunlop,Boss,MXR,etc...) is that if it were 100% true bypass. I would have to say that this wah is about 90-95% transparent, so it really isn't horrible at all. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for a well made, great sounding wah pedal.

Perfect for me. I'm playing my Vox V847 in between my Floyd Rose Classic Strat and Marshall AVT20. There'll be an Ibanez TS808 (TS9 mod) in there soon enough too.
I got the Vox through Ebay, it's been modified so there's an on/off switch so you can cut the battery when not using the wah for long, without having to remove the intrument lead (useful for board-mounted wahs), and various modifications to the sound, it has more range, and is more adjustable to the sound you want. I play mostly heavy metal, mainly Iron Maiden (best band going), some Jimi Hendrix, Clapton et al, this wah suits my needs perfectly - it's got that 'voice' that suits my tone and the music I play. Beats the hell out of snarling dog wah's and Dunlop Crybabys (unless the latter has been modified too, in which case the Vox only just beats it).
As said earlier, the 'voice' of my wah is adjustable, so it can be adjusted to suit what I'm playing.

wont repeat....BUT...You dont need true bypass. STOP living with the tone sucking and get whats called a BUFFER CIRCUIT PUT IT. For under $3 you need 2 resistors, 1 JFET AUDIO TRANSISTOR, and i think a capacitor (GOOD FOR AUDIO APPLICATIONS...THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE YOU FIND , THE BETTER )

Anyway, if you are handy with a Soldering Iron, Get the Faisel Inductor in there as well while your at it (the red one) BUT you dont need true bypass, look up on the web about JFET in a wah pedal. YOu should see circuits magnified, and you need to add this simple dinky circuit after the input resistor. I DID IT, AND YIKES,,,,,IT WORKs,,,tRUST ME..YOUR SIGNAL (WITHOUT WAH ENGAGED) WILL SOUND JUST LIKE,,,,IF NOT B E T T E R THAN TRUE BYPASS!!!!!!.

I cant remember the web page but there are a few sites that tell you how to do it. It is a generic thing, so depends on if its a crybaby, or Vox, or Dallas Arbiter type.....you get the schematic for yours,,and look into it.

USE CoAX cable if you can....better yet,,make your own custom coAX ones....RF cable. Do this and your tone will be 70% better....guaranteeed.

When I first bought the Wah it was completely stock. I started gigging with it; I noticed not having ac capablities the batteries would die very fast. That became a problem for me, so be my first mod. I put ac in it; Problem solved. I'm sure you've noticed from other reviews about the by-pass problems. So be mod # two Robert Keeley. After I read the reviews, I went to Keeley's website and it was very informative on what I can do to improve the sound of my Wah. Before the Keeley mod the pedal sounded very trebly; and it was ear piercing. I needed a quick fix and from reading Keeley's info I found the solution. I had the true by-pass mod done, along with the LED light, so I know when the pedal is on or off, and the best mod of all the mid gain external pot. Which removed all of the ear piercing treble and made it nice, warm & gave the pedal some mid-range. The pedal now sounds wonderful. It sat in the chain for along time with no use. Now I find myself using it all of the time. I have Robert Keeley to thank for that!

This wah sounds great...I've had mine for about 5 years now. Had an old 70's era noisy Dunlop Cry Baby wah for a while but it was in bad need of a tune-up. It was very noisy and didn't have as much wah range as I'd like. So instead of getting the Dunlop repaired I decided to buy a new one and the search was on. I tried out several and the Vox was the clear winner. It's got a great range of wah sounds and works for any kind of music I pump into it....hard rock, 60's classic rock, funk, you name it. I also love how quiet it is...I can't tell that it's on until I hit a note. Very quiet. Yes, it does suck a bit of tone...but you know what, after all these years of plugging my guitar into a wah that's not true bypass, I guess I've gotten used to (and actually like) the fact that my sound is buffered a bit... I like how the high end trebly tones are smoothed out a bit and the highs are a littled rolled off by the wah pedal. When I play without the Vox wah, I do notice a difference...my tone is brighter and a tad louder. So I guess if retaining your guitar's bright tone to the highest degree possible is important to you, maybe you should check out a wah with true bypass...but this one works for me. Giving a 9 here since it's not true bypass.

I dig it!

I've had mine for about 5 years now and I've had no problems whatsoever. Batteries last forever in this thing too! Amazing...I can go about a year before needing to change the batteries - and even then the darn thing still works fine. I change the batt's once a year just as a proactive measure I guess.

Great all around wah pedal. The only drawback is it doesn't have true bypass (although you can have that mod done or do it yourself). I think Keeley had instructions available on how to do that.

I've been playing for 30 years...mostly classic to hard rock, with some country, jazz, blues, and funk mixed in too. Play in a working band that gigs out about 6 times a year and jams every week. This pedal has performed flawlessly for me since I bought it.

i play a strat through this and a couple of effects more...i still have my gcb95 but this is more of a wah pedal than that...the gcb95 seems to just play with the highs and lows of your note...while this will gonna make you go WAAAAAAAHHHH....great for any type of music... really inspiring to make good music, sounds like CREAM/HENDRIX/PAGE/WHO.... though, the fact that is not a true-bypass may not that be to good... but it can be modified anyway...so that's fine...

Its simple to use, just plug and play.

Sound Quality : 5
I play on my Maple neck Mexi strat that i upgraded with 57' 62' originals, and a 1960's 5 watt tube amp. The setup alone sounds amazing. THe Vox however is a tone sucker. I'm not sure why people even make pedals without true bypass (probably just because they're cheap.)

Well i'm a musician so of course i'm a tone snob, but i bought this thing before I knew what i liked, and now i don't like it. It just sucks sucks sucks tone. Not as bad the the crybaby but enough for me to not want to use it.

Also its very noisy in the open position, it seems you can't get the wah- sound with out the fuzzy white radio noise sound.

And speaking of radio noise, this things transmits like a mofo. Maybe i jsut got a faulty unit, but on several occasions, with different amps, it has clicked on to a radio station. Pretty good reception though i guess,....it sounded like Talk radio AM, so it doesn't even have good taste in radio stations.

All that said, i guess its fine for playing alone if you just want a cheap way to get a decent wah effect, but i would never dream of useing it at a gig, or even at jam practice.

For a good wah it looks like i'm gonna have to go botique.

Reliability : 3
Like I said, i'd never use it at a gig, and sometimes it clicks onto radio stations. Like in spinal tap. Very unreliable.

I was gonna send it in to get fixed (if it is in fact broken) but the guitar centers i got it from is a half hour away and my car is broken.

When I first had experience with a wah, it was my dad's Snarling Dogs. Needless to say, that was hard to compete with. I later tried out a Crybaby. Now, those sound pretty good, but there is very little range. It seems like it's always just back or forward, with no in between. The Vox, however, produces every tone possible. I cannot believe how great this sounds, whether clean or distorted. Great for solos and rythm.

The classic wah-wah pedal. Simple as can be to use...plug into it, run a cable out of it. Press it forward to turn it on, rock it back and forth at whatever speed you want, and press it forward again to turn it off. Simplicity.

Sound Quality : 10
This is the only wah-wah pedal out there, as far as I'm concerned....it's the one Clapton, Page, and Hendrix all used and it the big-balls wah to the Dunlop Crybaby's limp-dicked sound. My main axe right now is an Epiphone 335 Dot with Bigsby through Vox amps (AC30 and Pathfinder). The sound is everything you've heard on those great late 60's/early 70's records by Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, and other greats. Nasty nasal tones, deep throated growls, and everything in between. Additionally, leaving it in certain positions gets you nice overtones and feedback, including some truly savage tones (the Zappa method). My one complaint about this pedal is that it has a tendency to let local radio signals leak through my amp. However, it's not too common for me.

Reliability : 10
I bought this pedal 11 years ago and it still works flawlessly. It's a tank...just look at it. Chrome and black rubber....a classic beauty and a brick. I would (and have) use it without a backup no problem. I doubt this thing would ever crap out on me at a gig.

To me (and countless others), this is the only wah pedal out there. If you want that classic rock wah sound from the late 60's, ealry 70's, this is the only pedal. I play music that's a cross between Hendrix/Cream/Who/Zeppelin and Beatles/Blur/Suede and this pedal fits right in...it hasn't left my pedal board since I got it 11 years ago. And like I said earlier, the Crybaby's are limp-dicked compared to these. I bought this 11 years ago because I saw in pictures and interviews it's what Page, Hendrix, and Clapton used. Also, a friend of mine had a Crybaby and I laughed at it's chicken-squwacks....the Vox is the one!!!

The VOX V847 Wah Wah is a modern day version of the classic 1960s model that Eric Clapton used during his tenure with Cream. I've always liked the "talking sound" Clapton got from his Vox pedal on songs like "White Room" and "World Of Pain" (from the album, "Disraeli Gears" in 1967). For me, that's where I start with to determine what a wah wah pedal should sound like...the modern day Vox V847 gets that sound.
Like all great wah pedals, it's easy to use...simply step on the pedal and it engages. The Vox has smooth action with no unwanted "popping" noises when the effect is engaged.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
My set up includes a Standard Fender Telecaster and a Marshall 100 watt MG100DFX combo amp. My choices for effects have changed since the Marshall has digital effects built in (chorus/delay, flanger, delay & chorus). I wanted a nice dependable wah wah pedal with that "classic" sound and the Vox fits the bill.
The pedal sounds great in either clean and overdriven modes with no terrible crackling sounds or radio interference problems to note. A nice feature about the pedal is there is no volume loss when the wah is engaged.

Reliability : 10
The Vox V847 is built in the USA- I really didn't think they did that anymore! It's all metal construction looks great (with it's chrome pedal and rubber Vox logo) and feels solid too. Unlike other pedals I've owned (Cry Baby, Dan-o-wah, & an old National) this pedal seems to be built like a tank!
I plan on using the Vox as my one and only wah-so no backup pedal will be used.

Customer Support : 10
Vox products are distributed by Korg USA and I have had positive experiences dealing with their customer service people in the past.
FYI: I see Vox pedals are serviced in California by the same company that services MXR pedals.

Overall Rating : 9
For classic rock I don't think you can beat a Vox pedal. I've been playing for thirty four years and I have always wanted a Vox wah wah pedal and now I finaly have one of my own.
Vox includes a really cool carrying case that looks like something right out the 60s! (You can safely carry around your Vox pedal to next gig in style.)
Vox decided to go "retro" and not offer an AC jack on the pedal for some unknown reason. I wish they would have wired in an AC jack, but I'll just have to live with that feature. Right now I'm using rechargeble 9 volt batteries on the Vox (time will tell how reliable they turn out to be).
Pound-for-pound the Vox blows away the plastic-cased Dano pedal. The Dano is very microphonic...every time you step on the Dano it "creaks" and gets picked up thru the amp, not cool. The Dano has a plastic pedal and body and there is no telling how long it will last. The solid metal Vox feels like a champ and does not produce any unwanted sounds ("creaking", "crackilng" or "button pops").
Basically, I like it and I'm very impressed with it's overall quality.
(Rating would have been a 10 with an AC jack.)

Like every wah,if you are not used to it you need to practice a bit...But with time,it's quite easy to use and te make it sound good.I need to change something to it.It has no true bypass so that suxx. There was no manual...

Sound Quality : 9
I use it with a 60's mexican stratocaster. It is noisy on the treble side, especially with distortion but that's not dramatic...I like noise. It sounds always great especially with distortion and chorus. It's noisy and wicked.I've chosen this one over the dunlop 535q because there is no dramatic drop volume with distortion. It always sound great and clean it's really silky and mellow but it can get nasty and weird. It's a really musical wah,for everything heavy or funky stuff(especially for this).I'm using it with a shitty frontman 30w amp but it works great with it.Searching for a good tube amp so i can only assume that it will work even better with a good one. But there's one problem. There's no true bypass and it kills the treble on every electric guitar...I knew this before buying it but i thought it would be easy to get the switch(DPDT) and put it on. Hope i can do that.So i give it a 9 because of that. Anyway, overall,it's a really good product.

Reliability : 5
I think it's quite fragile.I'm saying this because before buying it i tried one,new and suddenly it wouldn't work...It was suposed to be new. But I treat it very nicely, i don't let it getting dust everywhere in the house. You have to be careful with it i think.Anyway,so far i don't have problems with it.Can't give more than 5 because i only have it for 2 months so don't really know how dependable and reliable it can be.

I play everything like hardrock, heavy, prog rock, melodic stuff but funk is really natural to me.This a good wah for that.I've been playing for 3 years.I also own a big muff, small stone phaser and a small clone chorus and searching for a delay...I like it,it's a really good sounding wah pedal but i don't like the fact that is has no true bypass...i compared it with the dunlop q535 and,to me,it has more personality and works well with distortion unlike the 535q so to me the v847 is much better even if t doesn't have true bypass(so no 10 for rating),you can mod it anyway. It's good stuff so it's inspiring of course. I recommend it to true music lovers.

Stepping on mine was always a bit of a pain, you have to do put a certain amount of pressure, and at the right angle. Sometimes I would think it was on and it wasn't. My pedal felt a little stiff at first - I noticed there was some kind of lubricant used on the inside (to ease this? Anyone else notice this?)

Sound Quality : 9
I love the sound of this wah - very inspirational tone with my strat and fender amp. Definitely Hendrix - "Born under a bad sign" comes to mind.
I used it to play funky, scratchy rhythms - worked fine, maybe more fluid-sounding than other pedals - I don't know I haven't used any others besides the one on the Line 6 floorboard which is really quite horrible! But that "fluidity" is what I like most - very silky, smooth, expressive...

Reliability : 5
Well here's the rub - mine is currently broken. I'm really upset about it, have only had for about 8 months. I bought it brand spanking new. I was recording at a studio yesterday and asked if they had one I could use. The studio owner said he had already gone through three of the same model and they had all broken! I don't know, I thought I took care of mine pretty well...I'm going to see about having it fixed, but I'm considering trying something else.

From the reviews on this board I won't even bother...

I've been playing about ten years total now. I own minimal gear, very few pedals. Play rock, blues, afro-beat, trip-hop.
It's cool to create swells with this pedal along with a delay. I also play keyboard, so I like to use the pedal as if I were just sweeping through playing with the cutoff frequency control on a synth. It's great for solos to add that little extra something.
I chose to buy this pedal based on it's sound and reputation. I did not expect it to break at all, it definitely looks and feels extremely rugged. But after all, we've all been told...looks can be deceiving. But what the hell, I say buy it anyway - I'm going to get mine fixed hopefully...

I wish the pedal action were a little smoother. You have to unscrew the bottom plate to replace the battery. I wish the pedal had a bigger physical sweep, it's a bit sensitive even though the range is good. That said, a monkey could use it.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using a Stratocaster into a pair of tube amps that I've built (and previously an Ibanez Tone Blaster 15). Once I settled down into using the wah, I was at first disappointed. I changed my picking style and the sound I wanted just popped out -- suddenly, I could sound just like Hendrix. It would be cool if the wah effect could be made more subtle, but for that I'll probably just rip out the circuit and rebuild it.

Reliability : 10
It's sturdy, if I were to drop it I'd worry more about the dent I just made in the floor than if the wah still worked. Theoretically the potentiometer might wear out in a few years, I don't know. You could also get dirt in the gear, but this is all speculation.

I'm using a Yamaha RGX420S guitar with the Marshall MG250 amp I recently bought. The sound is incredible. Whereas Dunlop goes 'wwwNOISESCREEKKKK' the Vox goes *waaaahhhhh*. It really cries. I'm still working on finding a more GENTLE sweep out of it. It's possible, no doubt, just takes more practice. But in case you want a REAL crying wah sweep, I suggest you buy this baby.
THis one is currently an essential part of my tone, and I wouldn't trade it for another wah pedal.
This is regardless the best wah-pedal I've come across, but then again, there are many many more of them. Also, I'd believe there IS a better wah out there.

I mostly play funk and rock. Vox does it all for me, I couldn't ask for more. Simple. Up till now I had to play with a crappy Zoom multieffect wah, this is a whole lot better (surprise) but to my astonishment, Vox beats the shit out of any Dunlop out there. I tested them all out and fell in love with this one. The sound is awesome...

HOWEVER
!!! Two minuses for Vox however !!!
1. It isn't true bypass; it eats some signal from the tone. But then again, I've heard it's possible to fix it on your own easily.
2. There is no AC outlet and it eats 9v batteries, so get yourself rechargeables.

If it were broken or lost, I'd try a Vox with true bypass and an AC outlet. Other than that, no complains.

8, due to the faults.

It's a wah. Plug in one side run out the other. The ac jack Jon has installed along with the ac jack out to power other pedals is a God send.

Sound Quality : 10
Jon has taken everything good about a Vox wah and made it shine. I have the pedal with all the top quality stuff, like the hard to get goodies and all the nos components, which would be a vast improvement over a stock Vox all by itself. But the mods he has put in are just outstanding! First of all he installed an ac jack so no more batteries. Then he put in another jack so you can power up your other pedals and ran them both through a noise filter. If you have used a Vox wah then you know all about the noise. Jon's pedal is unbelievably quiet. No scratchy stuff, no hiss, nothing but the effect, and it quiets your whole pedal chain as well. He also installed a nice led at the top of the pedal so just in case you drift off you can check if it's still on. The sound is just perfect. His mods bring out all the subtle little tone changes in the Vox. It's a very complex bag of sounds in there, and even though I have played Vox for years I really had to pay attention to my playing as well as my foot action in order to get everything out of it. And there is a whole lot to get out of it. If you use a wah for something more than just an up and down effect you are going to love it! The damn thing makes you play better. It really growls when pushed and is extremely expressive played clean. Jon also managed to soak off that annoying high end piercing Vox peadls are famous for. My favorite thing about it is when you are really playing loud and overdriven it will deliver all kinds of over and undertones on bent notes that are always changing with how and what you are playing. Very surprising and really fun.

I've only had a little while but it feels solid to me.

great - just great. this is the real sound of wah. i don't know what those other mass-produced wah pedals are supposed to be. really - do you ever hear anything that sounds like a crybaby in a good recording? this is what wah is to me - for funk, blues, hard rock... the only bad thing is that it sucks major tone when you turn it off. that's easy enough to fix; just get a switch and instructions from fulltone and convert it to true bypass.

Reliability : 8
i can't use gear that runs on batteries w/o obsessing about whether all the batteries are going to make it thru the show. so i don't - i added a ghetto adapter jack by cutting a hole in the thin metal base plate and running a boss-to-battery-clip adapter thru it. works great.

after the mods (true bypass and ac adapter), it is a great pedal. stock, i wouldn't use it for live stuff, but that's just me. this sound is the perfect wah sound for me. the frequency sweep sounds perfect to me with either a strat or archtop. very musical, very vocal.

Well, after all, it is a wah pedal. Nothing too difficult.

Sound Quality : 10
My setup has changed quite a bit since just last year. I used to have a Vox Series 90 amp, and a cheap Samick starter guitar. My effects included a DOD Grunge distortion (since the Vox didn't get the low, heavy distortion that I prefer; and even if it did, the channels were not switchable), a Boss Super Phaser, and a Dunlop Crybaby wah. However, recent events forced me to end up with all of my gear taken from me (except the grunge and a piece-of-shit keyboard). Since then, I have been taking time to rebuild my setup. If I could, I would replace the Vox amp with another one, but I will never see one like it again unless I get mine back. So instead, I have gotten a Crate GX-220 Excalibur head. I replaced my Boss Super Phaser, and put an Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo in the place of the Grunge since my amp gets the distortion I like naturally. However, it just felt a little empty without a wah. I had started to save up the money I could spare to get another Crybaby, but I came across this Vox wah. I tried it out at a practice and this thing sounded awesome. For one, it was a lot less noisy than the Crybaby, and also had a smoother sweep. I had read in a lot of reviews have mentioned that the Vox wah cuts the highs out of the signal a little, and this is true. However, I have found that it doesn't sound that bad at all. It takes some of the bright twang-noise out of the clean, and for some reason makes the distortion sound a lot smoother. I use a Fender Highway 1 Strat, and the wah sounds great on each pickup and pickup combination (yes, even the neck). When combined with the distortion, it gets a little overpowered by the gain, but I don't use wah in my solos. Plus, the Vox just feels good under my foot.

Reliability : No Opinion
Well, I think wahs are built pretty solid. The Crybaby was very reliable, and since the Vox wah is manufactured by Dunlop, I don't doubt that it'll last me for some time.

Nope.

Overall Rating : 10
I play styles ranging from jazz and funk to hard rock. I also play classical guitar. I've been playing for about three years now, so I think I've come pretty far. I can't say that I've played through a million effects over x amount of decades, but I can tell you what I know sounds good to me, and this wah has it covered as far as wahs go. It's a great value, worth the hundred bucks if you get it new. However, I kind of wish it had an LED or something; sometimes I can't tell if I've turned it off or on. It sounds great, and you can make some pretty cool noise with it when combined with a phaser and a delay. It this thing were stolen or something, I would definitely go and get another.

I am using the wah with an Ibanez RG20 and a Marshall Valvestate 100 and it sounds sweet as with the pickup in neck position. This wah sounds smoother than any other wah's on the market, although with the amp's natural distortion it looses wah. If you want insane metal guitar solo's with this baby, get yourselves a distortion pedal as well.

I trust this wah with my life. If VOX brought out life support machines, i'll be sure to buy one!

If for some reason i had lost it, I would have it replaced immidiatley. The Jim dunlop sounding wah's sound atrocious compared to this smooth baby. Oh, and it came with a bonus leather carry case.

its a friggin' wah...

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Gibson Les Paul > Vox Wah > Maxon OD808 > EHX Double Muff > Fender Blues Junior. when its off, it sucks a lot of tone. highs are kinda cut a bit. the sweep is much better than any other affordable wah. it beats any dunlop pedal (although dunlop manufactures this pedal, just to Vox specs under contract). My friend has teh 535 crybaby and i used to have the jimi hendrix wah (both dunlop) and they suck compared to the vox, sweep-wise. get a nice vintage type wah, if you want something more modern, look at the morley wahs.

I play everything from 90s rock (Oasis, Pearl Jam) to blues (SRV-esque, ACDC), funky soul (Isley Bros, James Brown), Jazzy stuff (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, The Bridges), and just about everything in between. i just dont like metal. I've been playing for some odd years, i don't really know. if it were stolen, i may pay out the ass and get a Fulltone Clyde wah because it has true bypass and different modes. Also, a lil better sweep. But its also $175 MORE than this vox, so i wouldnt be the least bit suprised if i would just grab one of these again. I love its sound, its GREAT for funk. I like to use it for making riffs sound cooler and to make solos even saucier! I'm a lead guitar player for a rock band (were still trying to figure out our sound) and I've always loved this thing, now it helps me stand out. but keep in mind, don't be a wah whore, *cough* kirk hammet *cough*

its a really nice wah, especially for the wah. might wanna get it a true bypass though sometime. i probably will.

you can also put a 68k resistor in it to give it a more vocal tone
there are many sites that tell you the mods and how to do them just search and then you won't be able to find a better pedel for the money. seriously VOX is the best when it comes to wah.

My setup is really simple strat --> Vox V847 Wah --> Visual Sound Route 66 Overdrive & Compressor --> Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

I play a lot of older U2 stuff (Boy, War). I hope this information gives you guys a idea of the tone I'm aiming for and how the Vox wah plays it's part in it.

The wah itself sounds great. I've had it for over a year now and I've been playing for 7 years. And this wah sounds great, it'll give you that great Wah sound.

It did cut my highs a little but good thing I have a tube amp. I believe if you have a tube amp, your tone will not be affected as much. If you own a solid state then you might experience some highs being cut. But as for me, my tone still sounded good enough to cover U2 and have people complement me on my tone.

Not a 10 cause of the screws you have to take off to replace the battery.

Sound Quality : 10
My setup is a custom built strat with SRV pickups (from his signature Fender), Epiphone Les Paul Custom, Traynor YCV80. I got this Wah for the SRV/Hendrix sound and it sounds great. It can get real mean and nasty with the right drive, pickups, and playing style. I did install both the true bypass and volume boost mods. They do help, but perhaps not quite as much as dramatically as some say. With my setup, you would have had to listen closely and compare in an isolated environment to notice the difference. I still recommend it though ($15 eBay!) I'm using an Energizer now and will change to a non-alkaline 9V when it dies. The word is that something like an Eveready non-alk sounds more authentic. But it still sounds great with an Energizer. I start playing my SRV or a little Hendrix and the crowd goes wild. So do I when I hear that growl! As you can tell, I prefer it with the Strat. Sounds pretty good on the Les Paul too but it shines best on the Strat.

Reliability : 10
No problems. I thought it "died" shortly after I installed the mods, turns out the battery wasn't as fresh as I thought. So note with a dead battery, you will get full signal when it's off, but when it's on you get nothing at all. Just like when you mess up the circuit board! :-) Yea you can say it, DUH!

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience here.

Overall Rating : 9
For this, I play SRV and Hendrix. Voodoo Chile look out! I often can't help turning it on for these covers that don't really use a Wah just cause I love playing with it. Some non SRV/Hendrix uses are mostly on the Les Paul. Things like Alice in Chains "Man in the Box" are no problem. Sometimes I use it for a very slow sweep on a rhythmic chord to add some motion. Works well. Oh and BTW, it's the first thing in my chain.

I did not compare it to any other units. If it's good enough for SRV...

Me, I've been playing since 1984. Definite YES on the replacement. That goes for the mods too. Everyone says they can't understand why there is no AC jack on it. Yes that really sucks, but the reason they don't have it on there is to try to get you to buy the Clyde McCoy version for another $50! :-) They make more money!

Click on. Click off. Easy.

Sound Quality : 10
Okay. This pedal delivers but YOU HAVE TO MODIFY IT TO TRUE BYPASS OR YOU WILL KILL YOUR HIGH FREQUENCIES WHEN THE PEDAL IS SWITCHED OFF! I thought that there was some messed up volume boost when I turned it on, but in actuality, those sweet highs my vintage fender twin w/PRS McCarty Rosewood delivered were cut off when the pedal was off. It's very easy to modify to true bypass - get yourself a six lug dpdt switch (open your pedal up - you'll see that there are only three on the original switch) and a soldering iron and follow the instructions and diagram at the following links:

http://www.green-fuz.freeserve.co.uk/tb3.html
http://www.green-fuz.freeserve.co.uk/effects/tb3.png

You can also increase the tonal range of the wah effect by pulling off the rubber stoppers under the top part of the pedal (NOT the rubber stoppers/screws on the bottom) and lowering the position of the switch making it just high enough to click without having to stomp on the pedal. Now you can push the high frequencies to the max when you're working the funk.

Ahh, now that's better. After correcting the above design flaws you're in business. You'll have some "white noise" overtones when you push the pedal to highest frequencies, but this is a common characteristic that comes with killer wah tone (it actually adds some nice character).

Reliability : 10
Never broke down on me. You might lose a nut on the input/output jacks once and a while, but all pedals are prone - keep 'em tight.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal gets a 10 with the above modifications and a 5 without. Vox gets a 3 for being lazy on the reissue design. This blows the Crybaby/Hendrix Crybabies away (Jimi used a Vox back in the day anyhow) - Vox is the original and the best. If you're willing to make the adjustments, you'll have the sweetest wah sound out there.

I love the hendrix and SRV tones I can get with this baby. I use it for blues and rock and it is the best wah pedal for this kind of music, in my opinion. I will be buying another one soon because.......

Reliability : 1
.....mine BROKE!!! Well, it is a physical thing really. A metal band on the inside of the pedal came loose and bent over. Now it rubs against the side of the axle and causes horrible squeaks and it is very rough when I move the pedal. I have only had the pedal a year and a half, and I am not a [regularly] gigging musician. If you need one for a gig, bring two. Actually, bring 5, just in case... What's worse is it is nearly impossible to fix! I talked to the Vox Customer Service department through email and........

Customer Support : 1
....the only advice they gave me was to try to fix it myself or to contact Jim Dunlop Electronics. Yes, that is right. Dunlop, Vox's rival when it comes to wah pedals. That's like the story about the hotel that advertises an indoor pool, but when you get there it turns out you have to go across the street to the comfort inn and use their pool....

They gave me absolutely no help at all, and the warranty was so short; and it doesn't cover anything.

Overall Rating : 3
Bottom line: DO NOT BUY unless you want a pedal that will crap out on you in a year. If you have hundreds of dollars and you are willing to spend it on several Wah Pedals, then by all means, go ahead and buy the damn thing. It is a bad deal, in my opinion. I love the tones it puts out, but it is not worth it to have crappy reliability. And don't even get me started about the customer support!!!!!

Duh. It's so easy that the manual is one sheet long and a photocopy of the one from the '60s. Hell, the vinyl carrying bag is harder to use than this thing.

Sound Quality : 3
All in all not a bad pedal. I like what it does with my overall sound in general.
There's only one problem with this pedal's sound: the bass notes wah WELL before the treble notes do. Now I realize that all Wah pedals do this to some extent-it's the nature of the beast. But This Vox wah does it to such an extent that it's on the verge of driving me nuts. Funky, scratchy wah-guitar work such as on the Shaft song isn't happening here, or at least not very well. It's like the pedal sounds confused at such a concept. "What? Funk Guitar? Played with a Wah pedal? Are you sure?" I don't know what part of the original Vox circuit is responsible for this, or if it's a design flaw in the reissue, but it's annoying as hell. Unfortunately for this thing, it's a big enough part of my playing so that this matters quite a bit.
I'd really like to find a reason to *not* bring my '70s wah pedals out to gigs, but it seems like I can't avoid it. The bass notes wah at roughly the same point as the treble notes, making chords intelligible and muted strumming funky enough for Funk. My old Wahs do it. The Vox just can't hack it, and it bugs the hell out of me.

Reliability : 10
I once had a couple of Dunlop-reissue Crybabys (I was young and foolish, ok?) as well as my old wahs, and now this Vox, and you know what? The casings are THE SAME. Down to the case numbers, screw holes and casting marks. The old ones are bulletproof as hell-I don't see any reason why these won't be.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Vox/Korg? Or NOT. Dunlop makes the casings, Dunlop makes the pots, Dunlop this, Dunlop that, Dunlop etc. All Korg did is design the circuit board so it would fit onto that funky multi-prong plug the wahs have in them nowadays.
But seriously, check with Dunlop first. They're the wah people.

Overall Rating : 3
For what I paid for it, I'm disappointed. The sweep is too disorganized for me. I'm getting to the point where I REALLY want to retire my old wah pedal, but it looks like it's not gonna happen anytime soon. The recent crybabys are just foul, and this thing-this thing drives me nuts. I've gotten to the point where I hate to play on it, so it's just collecting dust now. *Sigh*. I guess I just can't appreciate it for what it is. I think I'll sell it to one of my friends-he needs a wah pedal.

I'm not impressed with the sound what-so-ever. This pedal eats up the high frequencies of my sound when it's bypassed....which sucks. I use a Marshall 100 watt tube head, and a wah pedal is the only thing I have hooked up in front of the amp, and I have the top of the line monster cables. I compared this to a Morley Bad Horsie, and the Dunlop DCR-1SR rackmount wah....the Bad Horsie doesn't eat my sound at all, nor does the dunlop rack. When I have simple...rackless setups...i'll use the bad horsie, but nothing can compare to the Dunlop rack.

I play rock n roll and metal. Mostly 80's but some new stuff too. I been playin about a year now(yea not long). I'd definatly buy this again if it were stolen. I've played a Crybaby and i just hated all the treble is gives, and i feel that it goes from mid to treb way too fast. I only wish it had an AC adaptor jack, no complaints about the bypass(if ur gonna gig with it, it doesnt color the sound VERY much, but if your a tone freak unhook it real fast, duh). If your considering this along with dunlops, i suggest that u check this out before you choose. Awesome pedal.

Easy to use. Exactly like a Crybaby, just step on it to click the switch on or off, then WAH WAH WAH WAH...

Sound Quality : 10
I use Teles and Reverend amps, basically... other toys may include a Boss Blues Driver, Dunlop talkbox, or Dano phaser. I think the Colorsound has the longest "throw," and most extreme midrange to it. I also think the Dunlop Crybaby is the pedal with the most treble bite to it. In my opinion, the VOX is the happy medium between the two. Plus, its built like a tank (same design as the Crybaby). The Colorsound is great to record with, but it kept slipping from under my cowboy boots onstage. The VOX rules in my opinion. Yes, it DOES SOUND like the intro to VOODOO CHILE. If you looooove Hendrix and like to use this effect for funk guitar, as well as rock and roll----look no further. It's not a classic sound for nothing.

Funk, rock, blues, a touch of jazz and C&W... I would definitely get another VOX wah if the need arose. It is "quackier" than the Crybaby, but does not dwell in the midrange as long as the Colorsound. I have tried MANY other wahs out there, but most of them are pieces of "eye candy" designed to cash in on retro kitsch, and a lot of them just don't have the sound or reliability of the 3 brands I've mentioned. I love funk and rock (and Hendrix and cowboy boots), so this wah is the one I like best.

Changing the battery is sort of lame, have to take off the feet, of course that is the way of almost all common wahs for years, but hey - couldn't somebody improve this?

Sound Quality : 10
If you are going for a wild slightly simulated sound that has evolved beyond the older style jimi hendrix wahs, this is a great step. It is my opinion that this wah's range and headroom are perfect. I suggest it to anybody who is looking for a step above the old dunlops. Beware that the tone is very very slightly digital, but it's in a good way. Also, ignore the moron below about "true bypass" this pedal has a buffered bypass that 9999999% of people could not tell the difference from "true". He is obviously just trying to get business and definitely doesn't know what he is talking about. I like people who say to email them but don't leave their email address, haha.

Reliability : 10
It just never fails. I've had mine well over a year and only replaced the battery once. It just slowly gets less wild and quieter which prompts you to replace the battery. It has never went dead on me or done anything wrong at all.

I run my Minimoog through the Vox Wah, Maxon D&S II along with MXR Phase 90, EHX Smallstone(my personal favorite), EHX Bass Balls, and MXR Blue Box.

I pity the fool that has to duel with my shit 'cause I'll smoke 'em Jan Hammer style. All I can say is the Vox Wah with my Maxon D&S II helps my Minimoog solos rip the head off of any guitarist that steps up to the plate. no manual, but obviously easy because its a bloody wah pedal. it gets good sounds very simply, because its manual and you can do it while you play. I give it a nine, because of the stupid battery only power.

Sound Quality : 9
Well, my setup is a bit strange: 1998 Gibson Les Paul Studio Double Cutaway straight into my Vox wah, from there into my Boss Tu-2 tuner (which is also the power supply for my other Boss pedals) into a Boss Distortion/Overdrive ( i prefer the overdrive personally) into a MXR Phase 90, from there to a Electro Harmonix Small Clone analog chorus, into a Boss DD-5 digital delay (with the excellent external tap tempo switch which makes the pedal worth it) and then into a Boss Octave pedal and from there into an Ernie Ball Volume Pedal (to quickly silence my sound) and from there into my 30 watt Marshall Artist 3203 that powers a JCM 900 4x12, and my god its loud.
The pedal is slightly noisy because i play loudly, and my signal is hot, my amp is always on overdrive, so its just a little noise, but i don't care cuz the sound is so amazing. I used to have the Crybaby, and at first when i got the Vox, i didn't notice any difference, and then after playing the vox a couple months (after 3 years with the crybaby) i noticed how amazing and honky and beautifully nasal it was. The Crybaby totally sucks in comparison. The vox has a perfect range for me (funk, hendrix/page/clapton-isms, and then the frequency booster) and has the weird honkiness when its kicked back (bass position) and i prefer the slow sweep, or the quick funk kick. but all around this pedal rocks, and goes on in most songs.
I know its supposedly some draw-back that it isn't a true-bypass, but really, it doesn't bother me that much, since i really don't mind the missing piercing treble frequencies that much. One drawback- its battery powered which is an absolute pain sometimes.

Reliability : 8
This is very dependable- but i still baby it since i spent hard earned money on it, but its very reliable as long as you keep spare 9V close. I would definitely gig without backup, but i still keep that crappy Crybaby at hand just in case (even though its not the same) 8-because of the battery

Never dealt with customer suppport and would like to keep it that way

i play strange mixes of music, and most of them are crazy, so this is the crazy wah to match, and plus it brings in the feel of all my old favorite heroes to the newer music i play. I've been playing for about 3 and a half years, and the other gear i have is listed in the first category. if it were stolen or lost, i would without question buy it (well, if i had the funds). I love how it boosts my sound to an amazing controlled feedback, and how clear it is for funk shaft stuff. i hate the no-adapter option. but the rest is too cool for words. I would just like to say, these are my own tools for my own particular taste, and it really doesn't matter what i say, because everyone has their own opinion, and so don't consider what i do "right" or the "wrong way to play" because who knows what's right?

Now the wah sounds truly truly great. I continue to modify searchin for better wah tone...

Sound Quality : 4
Mine new was really crappy. The treble was ear-splitting nasty and the bass just got lost completely. I have made many mods to this thing and I am starting to approach what I'm after. These need to be smoothed out with a couple resistor changes and the range needs be lowered a bit with a higher-value capacitor. Maybe the cheap inductor stinks or the POT sucks tone or the PCB lacks the mojo of hand-wiring, but I just can't seem to get the sound I'm after. That said, it is better than I remember my Jim Dunlop Crybaby to be...

I think this reissue pedal overall magages to take a time-proven formula and lose the tone the originals were famous for....

Reliability : 3
The stupid little rubber things are gone and the pedal travels too far on the POT-- anyone know where I can get a couple of them? Otherwise, the steel is solid, but I had nagging problems with the input jack shorting out and had to take it out of my rig until I got a chance to fix it. Scraped off the paint, cleaned surefaces, added no-ox, screwed it in REALLY tight, no more problems.

Customer Support : 4
Never tried, I'm too much of a tinkerer to need them. Basic design was good, but execution with modern PCB and cheapest possible parts ruined what should have been an awesome reissue.

I run an Ibanez RG570 into a boss flanger, into a modified dano echo pedal, into a crate vintage club 212 combo (amazingly awesome amp by the way). I stuck this wah in the begining of my signal chain...and I must say I am very impressed with it. I have been on sort of a mission to find a good wah lately. i always thought that the vox wahs were cheap crap like the dunlops...but I way wrong. I saw it at the store and the union jack finish cried out to me, and since i was bored and had nothing elso to do I tried it out.

The pedal has a very broad frequency sweep and, the sweep seems perfectly even...very smooth. Sounds great clean and distorted.

I am pretty sure its not true bypass tho...I can tell a slight suck of tone when its on...but its not even close to being as bad as othe wahs in the price range.

Note that this wah is not a standard chrome V847 but the USUJ Limited Edition model with the snazzy blue/red/white Union Jack paint job:

I think we're running out of analogies for how simple wahs are to operate... this is a reissue of the first, benchmark wah. No selectable frequencies, none of this hot fuzz 60s 70s sound preset horseshit. Pin the treadle down like an accelerator pedal to engage and draw back to squeeze that sweet, sweet vintage juice.

Some might wince at the thought of having only one sound... kids, this is THE SOUND. 'Nuff said.

Lack of External DC in will obviously annoy those with powered pedalboards... I don't have one so it doesn't worry me. Using unfiltered mains power can affect the tone in old vintage effects designs ie batteries usually sound better. But if you must run the thing off an adapter buy a 9V battery clip and whatever socket at the other end to connect to the power source, drill a whole in the bottom of the wah, snap the two clips together and solder on the socket at the other end. Problem fixed.

Sound Quality : 10
My current setup is a Fender Tele and Kramer 7 string thru a J-Station into powered monitors and sub - not particularly great monitors, mind you.:

It's the juice factor, baby! I've footed a few different wahs over the last 5 years... the Dunlops are very ho-hum, no juice, more wahk than wookah, the Morleys have a very modern, sterile feel (if you've ever tweaked a parametric EQ on a mixing desk and hammered a midrange frequency around, it's a similar but lifeless effect). I didn't mind the wah effect w/expression pedal on my old ZOOM 505 but this beast is streets ahead.

Lots of people have lamented the lack of true bypass. Yes, an expensive unit should have all those little touches, but I haven't really noticed the difference yet... you'd have to A/B the difference or REALLY know you're setup. And keep it all in context; yeah, the wah might be sucking a few high frequencies away in off mode, but so's that crappy guitar cord... if it bothers you, do the mod everyone suggests... I'm pretty <i>au fait</i> with electronics and soldering so no doubt if a DPDT switch passes my way I'll do the mod, but don't let it dicate your choice over another wah.

Incidently, it is a hot wah, keep your gain controls down (or back off your guitar's vol knob) so the tone remains smooth... too much distortion or overdrive with reduce the wah's effect. Crank the 'verb and work the pedal softly in the mid-high position for that Hendrix/Clapton vibe.

Reliability : 10
Cost me a fookin' fortune to get it from the States cuz it weighs so much... nearly 2 kilos! The minimal PCB and other components are surrounded by thick die-cast metal and sheet metal below - more of a weapon that an effect! Use it to threaten the drummer to quieten down or for 'crowd control'! Of course, the practical application for all this weight is that it won't move around on the ground. Which is good.

Rachet and pot mechanism is always gonna be an achillies heel, but easily replaced when required.

I don't gig but would feel confident it's gonna work when I step on it... keep a spare battery and electric screw driver (battery change in a minute - not too shappy). Personally I think the lack of a plastic battery door aids durability.

Customer Support : 5
Came in the post yesterday, so can't really say anything about VOX or Korg, though I would have liked it if I could have registered it online (like Johnson do).

The USUJ Union Jack model wasn't readily available in Australia (Pro Audio didn't have a clue, Allans said it would cost over AUS$500!!!!) so I was chuffed to find Musictoyz.com to have it going for US$119 (list price in Guitar Player's wah shootout was US$175) and that they would freight to Australia (not all US Web Stores do). Got here in two weeks aswell... only glitch was they'd underestimated the shipping charge (like I stated earlier, it's a heavy sucker) which delayed the shipping for a week. Worse part was they didn't feel inclined to tell me that it was costing ('was' because they just charged the extra to my card) $US8 more until I asked them what was going on and just exactly how much extra it was going to cost to ship!!! In the end the extra charge wasn't much and didn't make it any less of a good deal, just kinda pissed me off that no-one kept me in the loop and asked if it was okay to charge my credit card more. Not clever, Musictoyz.com!

Overall Rating : 10
I'd been planning on getting a VOX wah for a while cuz people only say good stuff about them and they're actually cheaper at Pro Audio than all the Jim Dunlop models. But when I saw L.E. Union Jack one in Guitar Player a few months ago I just had to have one. Thankfully getting one wasn't too hard!

I play funkish metal as "my style" but love that kind of Jimi/SRV blues and unsurprisingly - seeing as both these guys used THIS wah - the VOX works wonderfully well. Every time I plug in I'm copping new tones, sounds... that's the beauty of this wah (and the effect in general)... it's so musical, so interactive. The human element. I totally dig that sweet, sucking juice sound... compare it to your old records, it's THE sound, not an optimistic imitation.

I've been playing for about 7 years, in bands for the first few years in high school and college, just dick about in my little home studio these days, recording stuff through my J-Station and Tascam US-428. The VOX is quiet, it only accentuates what crud is already in your signal path (tele pickups, big monitor, not good) in the treble setting - ideal for recording.

Should I somehow lose or kill this one (later seems unlikely but I can be tough on stuff, admitedly) I'd get another if I'm not impressed with the Real McCoy wah that a friend is getting soon... apparently those are this shit... at AUS $400+, mind you!

This unit has the sound I want, all it takes is a little caressing to get the tone out of it... don't stomp your foot back and forth like a steam train and expect it to perform amazingly... a bit of subtlety and careful working of the treadle on each note gets maximum impact. It ain't no stompbox, wah's aren't switched on, they're worked. Learning to work one takes some time.

Highly recommended non-boutique wah... great value, that fact I got the limited edition one only sweetens the deal (yes, the paint job doesn't effect the tone, but it effects your mindset!).

Buy one now. Or else... your solos will not be the same.

Very easy to use. I believe most guitar players will take to this effect like a duck to water. It came with a small operational manual. I wish it had a battery hatch though. No AC adapter capability. Very retro/vintage like in that respect. Who knows, maybe it will last longer, (no power surges etc.)

Sound Quality : 10
It sounds great. It has a little more growl than my Crybaby. But I think that both pedals are made by Dunlop in Benicia, CA. I own both and I can't tell much difference between the two. The Crybaby may be a little more trebly. I do love the sound of them both. I've always wanted a wah wah ever since I heard Rush's "The spirit of the radio" and The Runaways "Black leather". It probably sounds better through a clean amp. It is not noisy. It sounds good through both of my Marshall amps. One amp is solid state and the other is all tube/valve.

Reliability : 10
Well I hope I can depend on it. It seems very solid. I'm not going to abuse it just to see how long it will last. It does have moving parts. And moving parts will wear out eventually because of friction. I try to baby all of my gear. So far so good.

I would buy another if it was lost or stolen. The wah wah is a timeless effect. It sounds just as cool now as it did in the 1960's. I believe whoever invented it is a genius. I just wish it had a battery hatch so I wouldn't have to take off all of the rubber feet each time I changed the battery. I'll just use a Duracell ultra 9 volt each time. By the way I bought the union jack finish and it's really neat looking.

Real easy to use. The pedal has very smooth action, and is very easy to engage/disengage.

I have had a couple of Dunlop wah pedals in the past, and thought they had way too much treble in the toe down position, and were muffled and dull in the lower third of the sweep. So, where do you go next if you dont want to spend $300 bucks on a wah pedal? Thats right, Vox. I think this pedal surpasses any of the Dunlop pedals, however it does say manufactured by Dunlop on the bottom plate. I have recently learned that Dunlop only makes the shell casings. Whew!
The Vox has a real good freq. sweep for the amount of travel on the pedal. Usable tone pretty much anywhere you stick it. I play Gibson Les Paul and an Amer. series Fat Strat, through a Marshall TSL122, Peavey Classic 30 and a POD Pro. Other effects are a Visual Sounds Jekyll & Hyde, Voodo Labs Analog Chorus and Boss DD5 delay. The wah comes through terrific with out altering the tones from my other effects, nor sucking the life from my tone at all. I am using it pre distortion and find it to be perfect. I will be putting in a double throw switch for true bypass, but other than that it will remain stock for now.

It is built strong. The casings are made by Dunlop and thier wahs are really tough to break. If something goes bad it will be electronics, and that is a pretty simple fix for a wah.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have know idea, but Korg is the USA distributor for Vox and Marshall, so you would most likely go through them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
It is a wah pedal, there is not much to it. Has great tone, easy to use and creates very very little noise even in the high end. If you have found you did not like the Dunlops, or found out the Morley's really suck, then I would suggest you at least try out the Vox. You could by a boutique pedal with true bypass for close to $300 bucks, or you could spend $99.00 on the Vox wah and like me for an extra $13.50 install the true bypass yourself for a total of $112.50. You do the math genius.

When I first got it I was like "what the heck?!" I'm used to a pedal you just turn dials and your off and playing. This you actually have to work on. But with a couple hours, and by the end of the day I was a pro with it. Very nice.

Sound Quality : 9
It has very good sound for what I've been looking for. I'm into the wah sound of Metallica's Kirk Hammet, and Joe Satriani's style too. You can make it sound like you want. It's up to you to make it wah. Just press your foot near your toes down and it wahs. Pull your heel down for the muffled sound. Even get Hendrix famous sounds

Reliability : 9
It looks like it can hold on it's own. Except theres no spot for a plug, so you gota be prepared for batteries.

Customer Support : 9
I got it in the mail from musiciansfriend.com , was great. Except the wait for shipping...hehe

Overall Rating : 10
I play Kirk Hammet from Metallica, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Hendrix, and others. Sounds like all of them. Since you make it wah when you want. It's better than a pre set dial. It takes a couple of hours to get good at it, and even then it's not hard. I got it 75$ off of the origanal price too. Get This Pedal it RULES!!

I'm writing this review for any electric violinists out there, if there are any(let me know). I've tried many of the other non-boutique wahs out there, and unless you're playing..., actually no matter what style you're playing, you can't get a better tone from any of the other wahs out there, bar none. This pedal is one of the reasons people chase after vintage gear. You can't beat the tone. I've played this with a pro co rat, and I'm now using a tech 21 Comptortion. You can get an awesome CLEAN tone on a violin with this wah running into the comptortion with the tone and distort knobs cranked up all the way, and the comp knob less than a quarter turn up from zero. If you want to hear what this sounds like, then I have a .wav file on my website(www.personal.psu.edu/txh194/violin.htm). It works well with an octave divider in front of it, as well. I listen to SRV, Hendrix, Page, and some others, and while I obviously can't nail their tones with a violin(yet), I'm very happy with my sound at this point. As for noise, you do get some hiss(that's the 9), at times, but it's well worth it. Even if you do have other wah pedals, you can use this one.

Reliability : 10
Aside from having to remove the bottom plate to change the battery, there's no hitches. Gigging, I would put in a fresh battery every couple of nights, just to be sure. Wouldn't need a backup.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Vox?????

Overall Rating : 10
If you were brought up on classic rock, then you need this pedal. If I ever lost this, I'd get another one in a heartbeat. I'm looking into giving mine the hard-bypass mod, but other than that, I'm extremely happy with it.

Here's the deal with wah-wahs: You kick the front end hard, and it turns on. Rock it back and forth while enjoying the effects of your wah. To turn it off, kick the front part hard again. The thing didn't come with a manual (how could anyone need a manual for a wah pedal?). Oh, and there's an extra bonus for all you vintage freaks out there: it comes in a SUPER COOL retro brown vinyl carry bag!!!!! White trim and everything. And if you prefer to let the cat out of the bag, if you will, then you will be basked in the shine of the chrome on the pedal. WOOHOO!

Sound Quality : 9
My current setup is an 2001 Epi Les Paul Studio to a Boss BD-2 Bluesdriver to the Vox Wah to a Crate GFX-212T amp. Now, there is no set rule regarding the placement of wah pedals in an effects chain. If you put the wah BEFORE a distortion or overdrive pedal, the end result will be an overdriven wah'd signal. The same applies if you are placing the wah between your guitar and your amp's distortion circuits. Placing the wah AFTER a distortion or overdrive pedal (or in the effects loop of your amp), the end result will be a wah'd overdriven signal. BUT!!! the wah pedal will affect the overdrive! So, if the wah is open, your tone will be cleaner. If the wah is closed, your tone will be more distorted. It's totally up to you how you want to use it. Personally, I place the wah before my overdrive pedal so that it does not affect my overdrive (that would just be another factor I'd have to divert brain power to, and using your foot and your fingers at the same time is tough enough for me!).
The pedal produces no noise other than the typical "swirling air" noise heard when the wah is closed (full treble) and nothing is being played. This wah-wah has a slightly wider range than the Dunlop Crybaby pedal that my friend has. It'll do the Hendrix thing (after all, he USED THIS PEDAL* for most of his recordings, NOT the Crybaby as some believe!) The lack of a full bypass doesn't bother me, but the click when you turn it on is loud enough to be annoying when playing clean. I give it a 9 only because of that fault.

Reliability : 10
First of all, wah-wah pedals are GIANT STEEL BRICKS! Inside, the circuitry is simple (simplicity = less things that can go wrong = reliability). I have had it only a week, but I can't see anything much going wrong in the future. Not gigging yet, but maybe one day....and when I do, I'm going without a backup. In my opinion, you gotta get gear you can count on. The only backup I'd ever take with me to any gig is a second guitar (never know when a string could break, although in my 8 months of playing, I have yet to break a single string.)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hopefully, neither I nor anyone reading this will ever get there (If you manage to break a wah-wah, you'd better not be buying 100 dollar pieces of gear...)

Overall Rating : 10
My music career is short and therefore unfocused (let's hope it stays that way). As I said before, I've been playing 8 months. I play anything that I listen to, which is anything from Classic Rock (Hendrix, The Doors) to Hard Rock (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC), to contemporary Grunge (Alice In Chains, STP). Hopefully I'll find a plethora of uses for this great lookin' little toy. I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to steal one of these, seeing as they look cool and sound great. The man who touches any piece of my gear better pray that the G men get 'im before I do. What was that Ving Rames said in Pulp Fiction? Oh yea, "go to work on 'im with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch". So, yea, I'd buy it again (as it is, I was an XMAS present). Anything I wish it had? The ability to reproduce by division. Then I could build a whole army of wah-wahs.....
I'd just like to fire a quick retort to those guys before me who docked this pedal for not having a full bypass installed. After all, this is a REISSUE. It's based on OLD technology. Hey, vintage stuff was cranky as hell and probably broke down more times than a ford explorer. But the reason vintage gear is prized is because, despite all its faults, the damn things produced some of the SWEEEEETEST tone out there. Hell, we're still trying to match it.

About as easy as any wah available is going to get. Manual not needed, I don't even know if there was a manual with it. After removing the wah from the box, the box was tossed into a corner along with whatever was left inside forever buried under internal house rubble,....Oh, I did remove the cool carrying bag that was included.

Sound Quality : 9
I am running an American strat (hardtail) into the V847 wah and then into a VOX pathfinder and that's it. I like classic rock tones and this setup does really well for me,....I am preparing to do some recording with this setup. I guess like most other wahs, you do hear some of that "windy night" swooshy type of noise when you are not playing. I am fairly particular about noise and it doesn't bother me. After I adjusted my pickup height up a bit, I feel the effect is strong,...My pickups were adjusted too low and I was loosing some of my tonal "meat", both with the wah on and off,....After having corrected that adjustment, this particular guitar has come alive along with the wah effect. I really haven't tried to duplicate any artists tones although just by default, this guitar, wah, and amp, with the amp "parked" somewhere at a mid position sounds similar to some of Slash's tones when he apparently has whatever wah he uses sitting at a mid position,....I can't prove it but his "Sweet Child of Mine" intro tone sounds like his LP going into a "parked" wah pedal and then into an overdriven amp, with maybe a touch of post production (very slight) delay and possibly compression,....well anyway, with my setup I can get similar tones like that (even though I have a hardtail strat) and then if you start rocking on the pedal it just adds to the excitement. Hey maybe he actually used a strat for that intro? huh, he could have pulled a "Jimmy Page" there in the studio, but I don't really think so. After 10 years of on and off playing, I have become very sensitive to a pedals' (any pedals') bypassed tone,....I often rely on just my guitar and amp's tone and I can tell when there is a non true-bypassed pedal sucking usually the treble frequencies. I read the reviews and was afraid this pedal would be a problem in this department and I had a DPDT switch ordered and at my house days before the wah pedal ever arrived,....I played with the pedal a bit before installing the switch in it and have to admit that its bypass was better than some of the other non-true bypassed pedals,....If you want a pedal that really makes your bypassed tone sound like a pig vomiting slop, then get ya some of those BOSS pedals,.....I won't even consider that garbage anymore just because they continue on with their FET switches! Nonetheless, the Vox killed some of the sparkle in the upper end so I installed the DPDT switch and after doing so, I would have to give the sound quality a solid 9 anyway,...Something like the Fulltone Clyde wah (and other upper end wahs) could possibly sound a bit better but I don't know. After doing the true bypass mod on the vox wah, I really was perfectly happy, especially since it had a non-BOUTIQUE price tag on it,......... To save my grASS I don't know why Vox won't just use a DPDT switch and make the thing true bypass from the factory! It couldn't add anymore than 5-10 dollars. The mod also actually reduced the "pop" probably by 50 percent. This was probably due to the extra wire I had to add that connected to "ground". It's really just an all around good thing (the true bypass mod)

Reliability : 10
I think I could depend on this wah without a need for a backup,...Its circuit is analog and about as simple as you can get and it has real jacks that can be replaced as opposed to plastic jacks mounted (and soldered) right on the circuit board itself,.....I had a Budda wah for a while and the vox's construction is almost identical in design and strength to the Budda's wah which is a well made wah......

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't delt with them

Overall Rating : 10
I am working on my own music but play some familiar stuff as well,...Anything with those classic rock tones from the 60's, 70's and some select few from the 80's. This pedal suits this classic vein really well. If something happened to it I would definetely buy it again,...oh I guess if I was overrun with green stuff, I may try something like a Fulltone Clyde wah but as I said the v847's tones are good enough that even the best wah in the world (whatever that may be) couldn't be but so much better. I love this pedal's simplicity and tone,.....I hate nothing, although if I were gigging, I could see where I would need to install a external power jack and possibly an indicater LED (light) but that would call for replacing the switch with a triple pole double throw (3PDT). The pedal lasts a good while on a battery and I use the carbon zinc kind for supposedly better tone,...I tend to agree with Mike Fuller (Fulltone) that the carbon zinc batteries give a smoother more vintage tone,....It could have to do with their inability to provide the same amount of surge current like alkalines do,..I really don't know, but there seems to be something there. These batteries are the ones like EVEREADY "super heavy duty" or any of the brands like PANASONIC that do NOT say alkaline on them and instead say something like "heavy duty" or "super heavy duty",.....I did compare the v847 to the budda wah,....I actually owned the budda for a while and never really liked it,...it had the basic tones I needed but the thing always seemed too trebly. Anywhere from about 3/4 to full "toe in" on the budda wah, the tone got really piercing,....I really didn't know if it was me or my guitar or what,...My strat does have a maple fretboard which tends to automatically make it a little brighter than one with a rosewood. I use D'Addario nickle wound guitar strings which are warm and "classic" but with the budda, my tone was just on the piercing side no matter what,....Then after reading in "Guitar Player" just recently, there was a wah pedal "shootout" and they got the same results. They favored the Vox's wah tones mainly because it didn't cross that "piercing" tone line,....That's when I knew I wasn't crazy and the Budda hit ebay and I ordered the Vox. Like the guys in the review said, the Budda would probably be perfect for a particularly "dark" sounding guitar, maybe a strat with a rosewood fretboard or especially humbucker equipped guitars,.......If you read the reviews on the budda wah though, there are still some guys, however, that apparently are perfectly happy with it and a strat, so it's probably really just personal opinion and your amp probably makes some difference as well,...I really like the Vox's tones better with my setup. Its tones for me are completely useable in even the upper range of the wah's movement and even the extreme lower range, the Vox has more growl to it in that lower range than the Budda wah......To me the Vox was the better buy even through it cost me an extra $19 at (www.mojotone.com) for the dpdt switch,....If you get the vox wah, I recommend doing the true bypass mod using the diagram on Mike Fuller's website (wwww.fulltone.com)click on "TECH, TIPS, AND ANSWERS",...Then on WAH TALK.....

well if you really wanna know i run a ibanez gax70 through a peavey studio pro 112(good gutar for the price, worth upgrading components, great amp aswell) . The wah is noisy in the higher frequency if you dont play anything. it may be my amp and guitar's fault though. The wah is great, it retains its clarity through heavy distortion. THough it is a bit trebly its fine for me.great through te clean channel too.
oh yeah, no true bypass . there is only a slight difference because it reduces your treble. its up to you if you want to get the mod.only 20 some bucks. i wouldnt cause im not gigging yet or maybe never will so it doesnt matter to me.

I'm using this Wah with a Strat (Lace Sensor Pickups), a Marshall Guvnor distortion, and a Danelectro Echo into a Mesa Boogie Studio .22
Tube amp. The sound of this pedal is KILLER! The sweep range is narrower than some of the more modern Wahs, but the tone is nice and thick. There is a slight bit of Microphonic feedback going on at heavy distortion levels, but it is easily controllable. There is a slight hiss when the effect is engaged, but it's not very noticable. Some people complain about the pedal changing the bypassed tone, but the coloring (if noticable at all in the first place) is very, VERY slight. If anything, I like the fact that the pedal juices up the bypassed sound a slight bit.
In all, this is the classic Wah sound you've heard on all your favorite records. I give it a 9 as opposed to 10 only because tone is subjective, and nothing is truly ever perfect to everyone.

I'm not sure how complex a wah pedal could get. You can turn it on and off with your foot on the pedal instead of a seperate switch like some Morley models. This has pluses and minuses. If you want to play with the wah in one spot to get a nasal sound, you have to get it to the right spot in mid- steam, which might be cool... it just depends on what you want.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds good, not great. I had a Jim Dunlop crybaby for a while. I'd have given that a 4. The vox sounds a lot better, and works a lot better with my rig. I got this used from a buddy. It was old then and even older now. It looks terrible but it still sounds new. When the battery is going it sometimes does some funny stuff. The very best Wah out there, I've owned many CB's over the years, but this really blows them all away. You can get sounds from the Curtis Mayfield !metallic sound! Wah to full-on Cream/hendrix tones. Stock Mexican Tele > V847 > Nobels ODR-1 > JMP 50 watt non-MV and 4x12 w/greenbacks, or Crate VC508 (practice). I use the wah and OD mainly for solos. Sounds best with wah before OD. Sounds EXCELLENT! The Vox is very vocal and musical - vintage sounding, too. Think Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return), and Cream - Whiteroom. The V847 nails them! Sounds great clean or dirty. However, bypass mod is necessary IMO to be giggable and recordable. After the mod, the Vox is darnnear perfect.

Reliability : 7
The casing and pedal seem pretty sturdy. The wiring/soldering is good. PCB is tight. Lots of plastic parts, though. So, I wouldn't play catch with it. Take care of it, and I think it will take care of you. Gig? Definitely. Backup? It's a wah. You can get by without it if it breaks during a show. Plastic parts scare me, so I give it a 7.

Haven't called them, and I never will. I can get more help from users and techies on the net.

Overall Rating : 9
I write/play stripped down rawk with soul. Think of a three-way between Afghan Whigs, Neil Young, and Sly Stone. The Vox fits exactly with my style and set-up. The Vox sounds GOOD - much better than Dunlops and Morleys that I have tried. Much more vocal and soulful. I would give it a 10 if it came with a true bypass, and used quality parts. I modded it on my own the same day I bought it, using Mike Fuller's istructions, and a DPDT and some wires from an old A/B/Y box I never use. There is no way I could deal with the the cut in output and tone - just way too noticeable. Not everyone is as obsessive as I am, though. Nor was I going to pay to have somebody do the mod - even I could do it myself. So for $99, and a little handy work, I got a wah that rivals the boutique pedals in sound and quality. For those of you trying to decide between the Dunlop and Vox, go with the extra $30. It sounds better, will last longer, and you can mod it easier if you need to. You will grow out of the Crybaby, anyway, so the money is better spent on the Vox.

It's a wah. If you can't use one of these, check to make sure your feet work.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using it with a number of effects, the main one I want to comment on is the Jekyl and Hyde. The Vox has a superior sound to any wah in its price range, but it doesn't have true bypass, meaning there is a slight loss of tone when the pedal is in bypass mode (note: the words "slight" and "tone" are subjective; some guitarists have a heart attack over this loss of tone, others don't even notice). This problem can be remedied by installing a Carling 316P Arrow DPDT switch, or if you have any Visual Sound pedals, putting them BEFORE the wah. VS pedals have tone-enhancing circuitry that keeps signal loss down when placed in front of pedals without true bypass. I don't know how it works, but it does. This means you have to like the dist-before-wah sound, but your tone will survive. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to replace the switch. Instructions can be found by navigating through the fulltone.com website.

Reliability : 9
Mike Fulltone lists some complaints about the construction of this type of wah, that once the chassis breaks, the entire pedal becomes difficult to operate. But you'd have to be pretty hard on the thing to make it break. I've never had a problem with it.

Anyone with the ability to use a computer to find this page can work a wah. I could never get used to the different fulcrum point on morely style wahs, liked the feel but disliked the tone of crybabies, so this was a good choice.

I had been messing around with several different vintages of crybabies, and when I found out about this pedal, I sold and traded them, probably at my financial loss, and never looked back. It is the best. With the cb's, I always had a little loss of volume when I kicked on the wah, but aside from the snap the footswitch makes when turned on, this wah is superb.

It's built like a tank, and its chrome trim makes it look classy. I toured with it playing just about every night for two years solid, and it hasn't worn out yet. The battery replacement is a bit time consuming, but not bad since they last so long.

I play contemporary christian, which for those who do not know, covers styles as different as easy listening is from heavy metal. So basically any style is fair game. The vox wah is useful in all those applications. I would replace this with an identical one if it ever disappeared. Wish it had a better bypass and a 9V adapter, but I understand those mods are pretty easy to make. If you're looking for a wah, spend the extra $30 over a crybaby and get this one.
