Old school pedal, just plug it in and use it.

This does a very good job of copping the flavor of the originals with the extra bonus of including true bypass, which means it's dead silent and doesn't color the sound when it's off. Has a nice vowelly sound that sounds very musical. Perfect for Voodoo Child type voicings. Less effective on Theme from Shaft type tones, which to me sounds more like a Coloursound wah.

Bought it used and it's a little beat up but it operates perfectly. Nice heavy case, seems every well built. Switch operates as it should, no noise in pots.

This wah should satisfy all but the most hardcore tone mullah. It looks and feels nearly identical to the original, with the exception that the Vox logo on the front is a sticker instead of being molded into the case. This is a mostly a cosmetic issue, but unaccountably cheap given the care they took in putting the rest of this together. I owned an original Clyde for years and to me, the original sounded a bit darker, but really no better. The sweep on the reissue feels dead on. It's also quieter, and can be AC powered, which are both improvements over the original. Vox has quit making this model, so these will probably become more desirable over time.

I use a Fender Hot Rod Deville Amp with a Mexican Strat guitar. It has a wide sweep but certain parts of the sweep are too high (like an ice pick). Boss CE-7 chorus works well with this pedal. It started to get scratchy after 1 year and I barely use it any more.

ok this wah is not so bad but when you get it it may not be set up right.. you need to open it up and disengage the gear strip... I needed to roll mine a little to the treble end.. and to take it further i ground down the back end of the shoe plate to get a little more range... now it talks & sings just like u hoped for..
the clyde is the best wha in the dunlop line i've tryed & owned the cry baby & the hendrix wah
if you heve a chance to buy an old original wha the do it .. there is magic in the circuitry.. i will keep this wah wha for sure

the unit i have is pretty damn quiet as wahs go....the tone is quite nice...has a wetness and clarity to it...i run it through a 2x12 fender hot rod deville...i must also say i have owned at least 10 wah pedals and was more of a cry baby guy ,until i bought one of these....currently i own a cry baby classic with the fasel inductor...not bad but had switching issues....i also own a Fulltone Clyde....and to be honest , while i absolutely love the FT "Clyde'..the Vox holds its own ...it is my back up wah now...but its pretty damn close to the fulltone.....i have current fx models that dont even come close...this is a pro ;level wah and at $150, not a bad value.....

It sounds gorgeous. I've been limping on a Crybaby GCB95 for 15 years, so it was bound to sound better. But the fasel inductor sounds sweet and the true bypass is fantastic. I A/B'd my basic guitar tone through the GCB95 and then the V848. I was shocked at how much tone was lost with the 95. To think I've been tolerating that for all this time. The 848 was also dead quiet in treble position, whereas the 95 was all hiss and garble.

I'm a full time professional and would pay whatever I had to to get the right gear. That being said, I appreciated that this unit is available for $150 when there are some really expensive wahs out there doing the same thing. I appreciate all good quality pedals, but this is a really nice price for how it sounds and what it offers. I love that it comes with a carrying satchel. It keep the pedal safe in my kit bag.

Extremely easy to use. Slightly more difficult to use than a guitar cord. Just plug it in and rock your foot back and forth. This wah has an excellent sound.

The only obstacle to getting a great wah sound with this wah is your equipment. I will caution users on one point. I have found that even though Jimi put his wah before his fuzz in his effects chain, Jimi did a lot of things that us mere mortals cannot do. Run your distortion/fuzz/overdrive into the wah. It really does bring out the sound better. The higher your saturation the more the wah sound disappears if you don't. Not just this wah either. Dunlops, Morleys, and others have given me this problem. I have no problem getting a great Jimi sound for Voodoo Chile or Purple Haze. But my favorite sound is when I roll my tone knob back and find that sweet spot on my wah and let her moan. When I knew this was the end of my search after about 13 wahs in 2 years, which was 3 seconds after I plugged it in, I pulled the rubber cushions from under the front of the pedal to make activating the switch easier. I have always hated wahs that switch like this. I prefer the Morley style of activation. Btw, this wah is true bypass. That is a must for these tone suckers. If you ever get a chance, compare how a regular wah sucks away your tone when it is off. I got no noise when turning on and off. I run a LP, Strat, and Tele through all true bypass effects and a Fender Twin Reverb Reissue w/15" speaker.

I love the blues and blues based rock. I own good quality gear, but I will probably buy a backup b/c no one stocks them. I had to buy this one online. I am becoming less worried about my stuff not working, but am worried about it getting stolen. Believe it or not, my pedal board is a small fortune and I am considering a small safe to lock them and other band valuables in so they won't get stolen. If there are any pedals that I would say absolutely would wreck my sound it would be the Vox Clyde McCoy and My Wren And Cuff Red Camel. Everything else I could get by without, or scramble to replace. I have used the Dunlop 535Q, Zakk Wylde, Slash, and Dimebag wahs. I have also used several Morleys including the Steve Vai Bad Horsie. I wish it had a little more range when you rock the treadle to the rear.

Here's where this wah shines. I have yet to play a boutique wah (much more expensive) that sounded any cleaner, tastier, or had a better sweep. WAY better sound than dunlops IMO. CLEAN, no added extraneous noise. The CADDILAC of wahs, complete with chrome. Not trebly or whiney like the crybabies. It's smooth. One word to describe it...AUTHORITY.
Red Fasel inductor. Great retro sound.
No annoying changes in volume and a true cutoff. I will not need another wah.

Like any effect, best used in moderation. But when a song calls for wah nothing else will do. Wah is essential for bluesy rock and acid rock, my favorites. And this one is the Cadillac, big smooth and chrome, nothing cheesy about it.
PS..I never liked the crybabys, sweep is too small and sound is too grainy harsh and limited, and those switchless ones have real annoying issues, like a cheesy "modern" sound and lag, switching off at wrong time, etc.

The range is much greater than the built in waw of the Boss ME 50 and a lot more clearer than my old Marley. You get that late 60's -70's tone that the others I owned lacked. My setup is guitar - waw - boss ME50 -tubeworks 901 - boss loop - Deluxe Reverb. I play a ash strat, Guild hollow body Starfire III and an Ibanez LP copy I bought new in 77'.
I use this pedal for those over the top expressive moments. Like all effects, too much use can sugar coat a song to death.
As with every waw I tryed, you loose some tone, but this one has a true bypass.

I play a mix of rock and Christian worship music, with some blues and light jazz. I have 30 years of struggling to get out of a rut of doing the same sameold guitar playing with breakthroughs now and then.
I would buy this waw again. The heavy chrome with the rubber inlay is very nice. The action is very smooth
I would have liked to see a small on light, but no big deal.
The true bypass is a good feature.
Before you buy a waw, this one is a "must try it out". To me, it stands out from the others and worth more than the going price.

I have a VERY simple setup: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe--> Boss BD-2 (Keeley Mod/Phat Mod)-->Clyde Wah-->American Deluxe Telecaster, and sometimes I will throw a Big Muff Before the BD-2 for more distortion although the Keeley Mod on the Boss BD-2 provides GREAT distortion/Overdive Sounds.
Through this setup the Wah sounds AMAZING !!! I don't understand why poeple have problems with putting the Wah AFTER a distortion or overdrive pedal, I mean if there is a volume boost or decrease in volume, I just tweak the volume on the BD-2 and BOOM problem solved, IF YOU WANT TO CALL IT A PROBLEM.
The SOUNDS i get out of this Wah range from Slash to DAve Navarro to of course Mr. Hendrix himself. It's all there, IF YOU HAVE THE SKILLS AND CHOPS, THIS WAH IS KILLER !!! I found myself soloing and just pulling out all kinds of TRICKS and LICKS with this WAH, I lost track of time, It's that good. I mean, I was thinking, DAMN !! I sound Like Slash Right now.
Think about the Solo on Janes Addiction's song STOP, or Civil War by Guns N Roses, or All Along the Watch Tower by Hendrix, that's the sound I get. If your gear is Great Gear, you'll appreciate this Wah more, and I'm lucky to have Great Gear.

Good sound quality but I would say it is different from real vintage wahs. It sometimes can get too trebly but my Cs3 modified by a Spanish company called Pedaldoc can cope with that and much more. Better sound when placed before the dirt pedals too. I used it once after my distortion pedals (as Hendrix was supposed to do) and it sounded like a volume pedal more than a wah.

Sounds excellent and IMO it sounds much better then a crybaby. You can get a better range and a better funk sound. You should get a compressor for this baby though because if u dont get used to how high the high end can get, it might hurt your ears. My setup is fender knockoff with Fender vintage noiseless pickups-Vox Clyde McCoy Resissue>Boss SD-1(Soon To be Keeley Modded)>Boss DS-1(Soon To Be Keeley Modded)>Ibanez TS-808> Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Jr. (Fender Tuner in the Tuner Out)>Boss PH-3 (With Expression Pedal)> To a crappy ol' crate. Im Soon going to get a Hot Rod Deluxe, a Blues Deluxe Reissue, Line 6 Tonecore Verbzilla, and a Line 6 Tone Core Liqua-Flange. I dont hear any additional noise and i didnt give it a 10 because the high end can get ear splitting, but that can be fixed by technique.

If it were lost or stolen then i would probably cry and then save up and get another one. These things take up a good chunk of change but its definetly worth it. It is my favorite pedal on my pedal board and it is a necessity if u wanna play funk. I chose this pedal because if was rated the best on musicians friend.

I am fortunate enough to have a few of the original halo inductor wahs. 4 things in this circuit dictate tone: type of inductor, type of capacitors, type of transistors and type of potentiometer. These are all different in the reissue. In addition the reissue has what appears to be input buffering. It does sound sort of cool, but does not possess the subtle vocal qualities of my originals.

I play rock music, for about 30 years. I have 9 wahs, 3 vintage, 2 boutique (Roger Mayer 9090A and Teese RMC3), 4 which I replaced the boards with my own, in a quest to reproduce the vintage gems. I have come to realize several things,1) Electronic components have tolerences {5%,10%and20%), and all these components on the board add up. Now I am told design engineers take this into consideration on paper. I believe I have heard different. 2) With vintage gear, someone along the line recognized the given piece sounded exceptional, so it was cherished and survived. But then I know folks who have just "old" pedals they don't sound particularly good. Me, I'm going to swap out the guts with a old Vox board I just aquired. Do what makes your ear happy.

I wrote a review of this pedal recently and said that I loved the tone before it got scratchy and I was going to get a new one. Well I got a new one and this one started scratching sooner than the first one. I don't know if I'm having terrible luck with these things or what, but if two days of playing is all it takes to get the pots scratching on these, then I really cannot recommend them. I thought I must be going insane, but I asked my guitar teacher and he said that's what usually happens to them after you use them for a long time. Well two days is too short and I'm really pissed so I'm giving them another bad review. $150 is a ton of money to spend on a pedal that doesn't last a week.

Schecter C-1 => Clyde McCoy Wah => BF-3 Flanger => Fender Twin Amp.
When the wah effect is engaged, even if your guitar volume is zero, you get a little bit of static (which you can manipulate by rocking the wah back n forth... kinda cool... but kinda useless too), but it's nothing to complain about. When the wah is off, however, there's absolutely no problem.
The range of this wah pedal is awesome! you can get everything from a very deep and muddy "whucka whucka" to a high frequency screechy "wicka wicka". My complaint here is that the toe down position is piercingly loud and screechy playing on clean mode. Playin a chord from heel down to toe-down sounds something like "whucka whucka wakka wakka WHICKA WICKA" OWw... What I've found is that I can eliminate the painfulness of this screech by lowering my tone on the guitar... This... doesn't really work in a live situation, unless all of your clean pieces have at least a bar of rest before you come in with the wah. With distortion/overdrive on, the wah works beautifully. You get a nice wide wah through the entire range of the guitar, unlike the original crybaby and most other wahs.
Comparing it to the Crybaby GBC-95, it's got a much wider range and works much better in the high range for solos and such. I tried the crybaby before buying this, and I found that for any individual notes on the top 3 strings above the 12th fret, you can't hear ANY wah at all. Rocking the crybaby from heel to toe, you can't hear any difference in the tone or frequency range, making it pretty much useless up there. The vox works perfectly up there, wah-ing just like it would on the low E.
My second complaint would be the inflexibility of the wah (but what can you expect? it's a classic old-school wah pedal). If you're looking for a wah you can play with and modify without having to open up and take apart, try the Crybaby GBC-535Q. Even though I WAS looking for something flexible like that, I couldn't stand the auto-off function, because it wouldn't allow me to jam the wah in one position and use it as a frequency filter. If 8.5 was offered, I'd give that score - 1 point off for the painful screech at the toe in clean mode and .5 for the inflexibility. But since it's not, I'll round up to 9.

I've read some reviews that complain about unreliability. I guess there are a few bad eggs in every basket, but so far, mine hasn't turned out to be one of them. As long as you get one that works out of the box and doesn't have any loose cords, it should last you until the pot blows. This thing is made like a brick, and feels like one too.
Of course, this is a little presumptuous, because I just bought the wah today. But i've been playing this same pedal for the last few weeks in the store (it's the only one they had) and it hasn't broken down, so I hope i'm safe.

I play everything from super clean jazz to metal, but mostly blues and classic rock. This wah is the most versatile that I've seen in my 3-month search for the perfect wah. Although the adjustable crybaby offers more options, it's a pain in the ass with the auto-off function. Nothing else comes close. The range of the sweep is sweet, and the engineering of the pedal is perfect for live performance. If it were stolen or lost, I'd definitely buy another. The painful screech and lack of options does bug me, but it doesn't change the fact that this is the best wah out there that a reasonable amount of money can buy. Try it, then buy it.

I can only compare this to my Original Crybaby and I like this much better. The Crybaby was very shrill, but this offers a warmer tone and there is so much more clarity to the actual vocals of this pedal. I use it thru an all tube Marshall and it gives every SRV/Hendrix vibe I could ask for.

I play mostly rock and pop and this pedal grooves. You can get really warm and syrupy tones or very disco like funk out of it. I really love it and the fact that it's true bypass makes it that much better. Two thumbs up.

THIS IS THE ISSUE. FIRST OFF, THESE ARE MANE IN THE DUNLOP FACTORY IN CALIFORNIA, AND HAVE SOME CRY-BABY PARTS, THOUGH IT IS A "VOX DESIGN." THE POT IS SHIT. MY DUNLOP DB-02 CANE WITH THE SAME ONE, AND IT STARTS TO SCRATCH AFTER 10 MINUTES OF USE. STRANGELY, THE V847 HAS ONE OF THOSE NICE, FULLY SEALED POTS, AND LOOKS LIKE AN ECB24B WITH CROME AROUND IT. THE CLYDE POTS ARE DEFECTIVE. I HAVE HAD DUNLOP SEND ME SEVERAL POTS FOR THIS AND MY DB-02, AND THE ALL HAD THE PROBLEM. FINALLY THEY SENT ME A ECB24B AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. ALSO, THE SWITCH ACTS UP: SOMETIMES IT SHUTS OFF THE WAH. YOU HAVE TO ADD/REMOVE WAHERS AND RAISE/LOWER IT.
YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO GO THROUGH THAT SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a vintage-styled wah pedal! Duhhh...
Switching can be a problem if you don't adjust the switch's washer to the right height. I had to adjust mine so that the switch doesn't accidentally turn off when I'm rockin' the pedal.

My setup: '61 SG RI or Fender Jimmie Vaughan Strat -->Vox Clyde McCoy-->J&H OD-->Rivera R55-112-->Ibanez DE7 Delay
I want to compare the V848 to my old V847 and a friend's Original CB-95:
The GCB-95 had a very bad sweep. The vocal qualities are so sterile. Sounds much like WUHKAH-WUHKAH. Not to mention it's not true bypass.
The Vox V847 in contrast, had a better sweep, and a better vocal sound. You can get near that Jimi wah sound, but what it does lack is that WHEAAW from a Clyde McCoy. The V847 is also not true bypass. Sounds more like a WHEYAAW-WHEAYAAW.
The V848 Clyde McCoy Reissue is probably the closest you can get to a vintage Clyde McCoy wah. Although it has a Fasel Inductor (as opposed to the Halo Inductors in the originals), it does mimic that singing MWHEEAW-MWEEAW in the old wah recordings. You also have the benefits of modern wah pedals such as a DC Input and True Bypass. Best thing is you don't need to spend $400 for an original Clyde McCoy.

If you yearn for a vintage Vox Clyde McCoy wah sound, and don't have the $400+/- for an original, this is your best bet. It is several notches above the quality of the V847. Compared to the boutique wahs such as the Fulltone Clyde and the Teese RMC-3, the V848 Clyde Reissue nails that more organic vibe of the originals, WITHOUT the tone-sucking. Purists might be angered by the DC Input and the True Bypass Switch, but trained ears can tell your 98% close to the originals.
The V848 is best enjoyed playing Voodoo Chile, just fyi.

but than, suddenly, it became noise, going up and down became shhh shhh on clean channel and brrr brrr on dirty one!!!
and then the switch problem arrived. you touch the switch and there is no signal, you re-touch it and you're playing again.

no brainer, but if you are a new player, and have never used one, basically you step on it like a gas pedal in your car to engage the switch located underneath of it to activate it, and step down hard to turn it off. When activated, you simply "rock" the pedal back and forth slightly to get the "wah" sound while playing. As you get used to it, the knack to to use it in such a way as to accent certain notes you play or rock it back and forth real fast to get a sort of tremolo/leslie effect.

I use Fender American Strats into a Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb re-issue amp, with a bunch of effects pedals in between guitar and amp. I always place the WAH first in my signal path, then into my other effects. The sound of this McCoy wah is warm, and very vintage. Not thin or harsh like some other wah pedals. It does sound realy good.
Reliability

No. This Wah has a switch problem. It cuts off completely if you just lightly press down on the wah, and it totally goes dead and you lose your whole signal. You have to step on it again to get it engaged. You cannot depend on this unit to work properly.

Can't really use this pedal to gig, due to the faulty switching. Makes me wonder about their quality control and dependability. I know Vox has made some great classic amps and wahs over the years, but this new Clyde MyCoy seems undependable, since others have on this site have described similar problems. I can't believe they would put something out on the market for over a year now at least and not provide dealers with a fix or a recall for the problem to make the product right. I won't be buying any Vox products anytime soon.

I play a Stratocaster w/ fat 50's--Vox V848--Ibanez TS9(boost)--Dunlop Uni-Vibe--Marshall AVT50 or Modified Fender Blues Jr. This wah sounds great with both amps: clean, slightly dirty, or full on saturated crunch. It also sounds good with the Uni-Vibe. The "WAH" sound is very clear and pronounced. It sounded a little shrill at first but I did a little tinkering with my amp's EQ and my guitar's tone knobs and now it sounds fantastic! Very vocal. I like the wah sound on the intro to Hendrix's Voodoo Child(Slight Return)and I think this pedal gets that expressive wah sound better than the Standard Dunlop Crybaby. Don't get me wrong I don't clam to sound just like Hendrix but I do notice a big difference between the V848 and the Crybaby when it comes to approximating that sound.

I have been playing for nearly 8 years and gig once or twice a month. I think this pedal sounds great and I highly recommended if you want a clear vocal wah sound. I would have to replace it if it were lost or stolen because I could never go back to using a Crybaby. The V848 is a great addition to my rig... it sounds great with all my other gear... and it looks cool as hell! Im very satisfied with this product.

Using it in this order: Clyde->Keeley TS9-> VHT 50-12 combo with a Guyatone Md3 delay in the loop. True bypass....very quiet. As everyone here has said, it does get a bit squealy on the treble maxxed out position....however, I keep my highs very in check on my amp settings, and find usable tones even with this thing dimed...almost sounds like a whammy effect on the 2 octave up setting, but more natural. I also use this in front of a Gsp2101 with stereo cabs.Les paul,Carvin and Strat type guitars.
Not a weak sounding effect. It has a very pronounced, clear and powerful wah effect. Not a washed out/subtle Crybaby or Morley type tone at all.Very vintage and easy to get Hendrix,Zeppelin,Cream without even trying.Voodoo Chile has taken up residence in this pedal. Not a totally modern sounding wah, but seems to make more interesting combinations with modern equipment than what you normally hear out there now.Great for getting those Joe Satriani lead and tapping sounds.Very clear.
I am impressed with the sound quality...I was considering the Fulltone Clyde ($215-$250 for deluxe) which, altho' that is not really much of an issue, there was no dealer close to me, and I had a store credit for the green on this one. Guess which won?

Looks reliable, solidly built...the switch feels a bit tricky. You really have to step on it, but no biggie. Made in the USA! I'm impressed. This is what actually sold me on this wah to be honest with you...I would have waited to buy the Fulltone Clyde and gotten something else with my store credit if it wasn't.
Would I use it without a backup? No. I definitely can see using a wah as a signature part of certain songs...that and I DO have a backup. It has been a long time that I have not really used a wah (have not been in a band for about 3 years now) for just practicing, but this thing is a blast! Therefore...I see myself using it more and more. A backup would be required ( even if the other wah is not as good). Ah....a vicious cycle.Looks solid...but I have only had it for a few weeks. Having said that, I know everyone seems to jump all over everyone elses' ass for having something a short time. Well, this has a very distinct wah signature tone, very classic and definitely nails the tones heard on many numerous classic recordings. I can tell. (Ma always said I gots good hearin'....that and good teef !!) I will wait to determine how reliable it actually is.

If this IS your max budget...I would definitely recommend this one. Sounds great! Much better than Crybaby or Morley offerings I have tried....But I have not tried the new Fasel wah from Dunlop or the Vai stuff from Morley.....better yet. Don't do what I did. Undependible...I just wanted to post on here to let everyone know if you are thinking about getting a Reissue, let Vox figure out the problem first. I ordered one...stepped on it, and it worked for about five mintues. I loved it. Then, stepped on it again, and it killed the signal...dead air. Tried batteries, different AC adapters...but the switch was bad. It's the same switch that comes in the 847. So I took it back to the shop I bought it from, they were great and ordered me another. That one was dead right out of the box! I am hoping that there is just a manufacturing glitch, because I loved the sound, but I want one that works.

The sound is GREAT.
I have used CryBabys, Morelys, and different types that turn your guitar sound into an artifical tone-free stupid Wah noise. All the other Wahs I have used also suck tone out even when they are not engaged (not true bypass).
This pedal has clarity of Wah (if there is such a term). Only when it is all the way forward does it get too screechy. I have played for over 20 years, and this is the ONLY wah I have ever liked.
I now see why these pedals fetch a high dollar amount for the old ones, and the re-issue is not cheap either. The sound makes it worth the 150.00 I paid for it.
This pedal nails the Hendrix sound where the crybaby fails. Unlike the crybaby, it gives you twice the working range.
I didnt know how good the Clyde McCoys were rated when I bought it: I wanted it because the VOX pedal was the 'original', and this model was true-bypass and has some fasel-type inductor which was supposed to be like the original. It turns out I stumbled into a great pedal.
Unlike the other Wahs I have used, you get to hear a guitar in the wah and not some washed out mechanical crap tone you can make bassy or trebely.
I have been playing this as the only effect pedal into a Laney AOR50 using a Strat.

This is without doubt the best Wah pedal I have evr played. Vox proports to be the inventor of the Wah, and this pedal was the flagship of Wah pedals (thats why it carries the Clyde McCoy endorsement). It delivers clear guitar Wah and gives lots of range.
This pedal comes with a sharp looking little vinyl bag to store it in (kinda like the ElectroHarmonix wooden box schtick).
I will say the click on/off takes some getting used to: It takes a firm step.
The true bypass is a MAJOR selling point, as all of my effects must be true bypass. I cannot and will not tolerate a pedal sucking tone away from a high quality Strat and tubes.
The Wah range is great, it does the 'wocka-wocka' and other Hendrixy sounds, and can do a duck quack and the 'Owwwwww' sound great.
I dont know about the Budda pedal, or the CLyde McCoy clones that abound, but this one works, doesnt suck tone, does great Hendrix, and has that classic Vox look.
If it were stolen, I'd beg my wife to let me stack another order on my Sam Ash card for another one. Its a good enough pedal that I would hope the thief was caught in Iran where they cut off your hand for stealing.
If you are resting on the fence on this purchase, let me tell you its NOT the CryBaby pedal, and dont associate the two together. If you were dissapointed with the crybaby, but wanted a Wah that was 'vintage' this is the pedal. The Clyde McCoy is THE Wah pedal. Just do a google search and read up: I had no idea how good this thing was (re-enforced how good of purchase I made).

Just like every other basic wah, nothing fancy except a 9v adapter jack. I was really impressed with the little rubber feet that keep the rocker from bottoming out. They have a little bit of rubber removed so they can be easily compressed. Because of that the wah turns on and off with just the right amt. of pressure, no jumping up and down on it and no accidental switching!

Sounds good. Good vintage vibe. I use it with a '93 Am. Strat and a '03 '54 Oxblood RI Les Paul and have been impressed with the sounds through both guitars. However, I do think it goes a bit far on the treble side, I would prefer a pedal that doesn't get quite so nasally while I'm rocking it. It does sound good when I leave it notched in that position so I won't complain. The pedal breaks over early in the travel of the pedal which lends itself to a real Clapton-esque wah tone. True bypass, but no clicking when I switch it on or off. This pedal should sell for much more than I paid for it.

I have previously owned the standard Dunlop Crybaby wah, Teese RMC-1 wah, and the Dunlop 535Q. The first pedal, the standard Crybaby, was okay but was rather noisy. I decided to get a really nice wah and bought the Teese wah. I was disappointed at the range of the Teese wah - it would wah the lower notes on guitar very well but the higher notes didn't seem to be effected very much. I didn't like this because I normally play on the higher strings when using a wah. Then I decided to buy a wah that is adjustable so I wouldn't have another disappointment like I had with the Teese wah. I bought the Dunlop 535Q after reading about its versatility, lack of noise, true bypass, etc. It was definitely a good pedal, although I had problems with the pedal muting my entire signal when switching it on and off, and the jack for the AC adapter was crooked and I couldn't use it. I tolerated the 535Q for several months and then decided to get a new wah. I decided after some research that I would like to get either the Budda or Vox V848. I got a good deal on a Vox pedal and bought it, hoping it would be what I've been searching for. And it is! I really like the way this pedal sounds. The range of this pedal seem to be shifted higher than on the other pedals I owned. It doesn't go as low and goes higher than the others. Which is exactly what I wanted. Playing lead with distortion, or funky reggaeish stuff with clean sounds great, much better than the other wahs I have owned. I have finally found the perfect wah for me.

I bought this from zZounds.com which is where you should always buy new products because they will beat any price and often have free shipping. Although I must admit I try to find things used and in like new condition before I buy them new. My favorite guitarists are Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Tim Mahoney (311). Page doesn't use a wah a whole lot, but Hendrix and Mahoney do and I can sound a lot like both of them. Hendrix used a Vox, and Mahoney uses a Budda or a Dunlop Crybaby From Hell. Although I didn't get the wah just so I could play Hendrix and 311 songs. I got it to play my own songs that I invent. People should spend less time trying to play someone else's songs and make up their own songs. That is the whole purpose of playing a musical instrument - to create, not to immitate. I don't know what is up with people who give a score of '9' and say 'I don't give 10's because nothing is perfect'. What? A score of '10' does not mean something is perfect - read what it says. A score of 10 for the Overall Rating category is a Fantastic Value. A 10 in other categories means something too - it never means perfect. Is this pedal a Fantastic Value? Yes. 10.

I play Stratocaster '57 reissue model with fender lace sensor pickups (blue - neck, gold - middle, red - bridge), fender rock pro 1000 amp.
V848 is third effect after boss super chorus and boss overdrive od-3.
Not noisy at all, ok, it is true that using it on a small home amp (15w) it doesn't give that much satisfaction but playing it live&loud beleive me, it is more than anyone could need to hear. It has real and pleasant, very natural wah wah sound.
I played on Jim Dunlop's JH1 wah for 5 years, very fat sounding but quite limited in my opinion and sound is very artificial, too synthetic.
JH1 is good for room playing and practicing but (for me) often does not give enough performance for live playing.
This is only my experience :)

Excellent. To the guy who had noise problems, I'm quite sure his problem was related to shitty cables, ac hum, etc. Mine is silent as a bell, and the true bypass is abosultely essential in my rig. I switched from the standard crybaby, and it is a huge difference. It is much "clearer" than the crybaby. The top end is a little shrill, but as suggested earlier, just roll back your guitar's tone knob a little and you're in heaven. I'm glad that top end is there, becuase it makes the pedal useable for darker Gibsony guitars. I still havent heard the perfect wah, so that's why the 9. Otherwise, it's the best of the new wahs I've heard.

My pedal set up is...
Vox Wah==>Marshall BB-2==>Boss Compressor==>Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ==>Zoom 504 II Acoustic pre-amp / simulator==>Nobels Tremolo==>Boss DD-3 Delay (all in line into a Fender Stage 112 se)
It doesn't create any extra noise when used with any of the other pedals but sometimes can get a bit too trebley at times but this seems to disapear when I use it with the compressor (which I use a lot anyway to thicken up my sound)
It also sounds great when turned on and left just as a tone shaper ( a la mick ronson)

Certainly easy to use. The angle of the wah is correct - I like the foot controller and the on off is certainly feelable - but it needs a led on indicator -so only an 8.

Great range and probably gives a good impression of 60s over crappy noisy slappy sounding wah. But you can hear your favorite radio station through it - yes it picks up noise. Also, distorts in its own tinny crappy way. Reminds me of why I quit using my cry-baby years ago. At least the pot is silent though. I don't like the response much either it's hyper - goes too high and too low. I prefer the end ranges to be useable so I don't have to figure out where to stop - and if you try to stop it - like when doing a rythmic whap, it is different every time. My god hasn't anyone heard of technology?

I play classic rock and new rock and this thing is a piece of crap. So big deal you can get the sound you heard on a Hendrix album - but Hendrix also put his echo before his amp creating a noise bomb - no one does that fuzzy tinny thing any more. If you want some GNR tone forget it. I think I'm going to return it for an electronic wah without all the hiss, amplification, distortion, and crap. I just one beautiful singing tone and this won't do it. My 2120 may have its limitations but at least is has a decent wah. And people - the price must just be so they can justify the low production of these gimicky things.

Excellent wah for many reasons. It is true bypass, and reacts very well in clean and dirty sounds in my guitar setup.
It goes- '65 Deluxe Reverb RI- Pe Vibe Unit- Boss Tu-2- Ibanez ts9/808- Ibanez ts9/808- Ibanez cp-835 II (comp')- Clyde wah RI- EB volume pedal into either a '64 Fender L series Mustang (olympic white) or a G&L ASAT classic tele.
With this out of the way, it reacts the best in this position of my setup. Before the OD's, and it's barely usable. AFter the OD section it's very sweet and useable to me in any degree of overdriven sound. It's a bit raspier than a Budda or Teese wah; however, it is the best sound for my limited wah needs. I am not looking for a $300 wah that gets used maybe three or four times a night. This wah is top notch tone, great wah pronunciation, and very much gives you the standard sound expect from a good quality wah. Some say it drops in volume a bit, which is true. This isn't that bad though... it's not dramatic, only a bit on the overall presence. But I don't mind this all that much, as I use a PA anyway.
Lastly, I will say sound-wise it's the perfect wah for the styles that I play... funk, blues, jazz, or rock... it doesn't matter what style, because it works for all of them. A++ for me!!

I won't repeat everything again... it works in all of my styles, and it is just as good as any wah out there. Some people get caught up in this or that, when really the sound difference in most cases is very small to nill. I have used- Dunlop 535Q, Vox V847, Teese RMC-3, Dunlop GCB-95 and the clyde reissue which for me, is the best out of them all. I don't need tons of tweaking ability, yet I need true bypass. This has what i want. Try one out... I think you'll see how great these wahs really are!!! EXCELLENT!!

There is no doubt about the fact that this is an excellent wah. For those players that truely believe that this wah has the same tonal pallatte as the Crybaby line, maybe wah just isn't your game. The ONLY complaint that I have with this pedal is it has a tendency to get trebley in the nose down position if your EQ is set for a high treble gain. This leads me to the pedals best strength in my opinion, the versatility of the vocal range when used in coodination with you guitar's tone knobs or the settings of your amplifier's EQ. When I first started out with this wah, I thought I wazs in for a huge dissapointment. Boy, was I wrong. I had my guitar's tone knobs up around 9-max. When I eased off the tone knob and took some of the bite off, I was in tonal heaven. What a nice vocal sweep I got with this pedal. Then, once again, I thought I was in for another dissappointment when I switched on some dirt and found that the wah sweep had been completely rearranged. Well, after some minor tweaking of my amp EQ, I got what I was looking for. Believe it or not, this pedal made me really pay more attention to my Mesa Mk IV's settings and in the end gave me a better sound out of my amp even when it is off! Which leads me to the true-bypass! This pedal is truely true-bypass. When this pedal is disengaged, there is NO tone discoloration of my original signal. Overall a great design. I would give it a 10 if not for being a little trebley at times and making me touch my tone knobs. :) This may very well be the last wah pedal I ever buy.

This is the wah for me. If you are not picky about you wah, you may want to check out a Crybaby. They are decent wahs and can be had at incredible prices used. If you have a specivic vocal wah in mind this may be your bread and butter. It really is the best wah I have owned. I am so glad I sold my Crybaby 535Q. It had too many options and not enough tone. I play everything from straight ahead Blues to Rock n' Roll to the hard stuff and it covers all I need it for with the exception of extremely high gain stuff. I don't normally use wah on high gain stuff anyways so that does not bother me. This was the wah I was looking for and it covers my Hendrix/SRV range in spades. Try one and buy one. Great value, if I lost it I would definately buy it again.

GUITARS
Ibanez 570 with stock V7,S1,V8 pickups
Thinline Telecaster(semi-hollow body) with stock tele pickups
EFFECTS/AMP
Vox V848 > Fulltone Fulldrive 2 > Fulltone Distortion Pro > Boss EQ20(with 9 presets) > Rocktron Hush > Boss CE5 Chorus > Boss DD3 Digital Delay > 2 Marshall AVT20's
I use the amp distortion and boost it with the Fulldrive 2. I changed the tubes in the amps to Groovetubes which made a ridiculous difference. I run the "clean" signal from the mono out of the chorus to one amp and the "dirty" siganl from the delay to the other amp.
I play, or try to play alot of styles (mostly metal - Zakk Wylde, Ramstien, Static-X, Saliva type stuff ) but also some punk/pop, like All American Rejects(local Oklahoma band - check them out - they have been compared to big names in some of their reviews.
I have only been playing for about 1 1/2 years and I play every night, but I play in the bedroom while watching TV and talking to my wife, so I am not a serious player.
I have tried several wahs, but I have owned a Dunlop Jimmy Hendrix wah, a Dunlop Qsomething wah(the switchless one) and a Boss modeling wah. All Dunlops seem to be different from each other and are very inconsistant in quality and sound. As a reviewer already noted, most pros use the original Dublop Crybaby. I can't help but think that they have their wahs moded by someone??? I have an instructional tape of Zakk Wylde, who uses the Jimmy Hendrix wah and he has no noise in his system and but has 2 100 watt heads and uses all Boss effects with no true bypass??? The Boss wah is an excellent wah and very versatile and clean, but I get the feeling that it is a little "sterile" and not as authentic as the real thing.
The V848 is the best sounding of the wahs that I mentioned above, but I think it is not as good as the Fulltone Cylde Deluxe, or even the standard Clyde.
The Clyde, to me has more range and is adjustable. Even the standard model has internal trim pots for bass/treble and one for gain.
The V848 is very quiet when you are using it and it has a true bypas, but at the fully up position, it has a very loud hum, that the Cylde does not have. I can't believe that it was released with that hum!!! It is the only negative aspect that I found and I like it better than any Dunlop. Unlike a previous reviewer, I have not had any volume loss when it is on.

I give it a 9 because of the hum. I love the tone and I guess if I wasn't playing at such low volumes, then I probably wouldn't notice the hum. I imagine that high volumes drowned out the hum. Also, I bought it to go with my second system that I keep in a spare bedroom and I traded another wah and a tuner in on it and only ended up paying $75 for it.
I would recommend the Fulltone Cylde Deluxe for serious players, but it costs $300.

Like most wahs, pretty easy to use. Lack of an "On" -LED (such as the Snarling Dog pedals have) is a disadvantage as the On/OFF button
is not terribly positive ... it caught me out several times. Once the pedal cut out my signal entirely -- not sure what happened, I have not noticed it since.

In reality, a bottom of the line $69 CryBaby is probably just as good as anything for just about every wah need. Most pros. seem to use that. However, we are all the victim of marketers hype. from time-to-time. This pedal was designed to fit the need for "the ultimate wah pedal" [I love wahs -- and was one of those poor fools!]. Vox pedals seem to be almost universally considered the best sounding (although in truth any wah will do). The legendary classic vintage models are as rare as hens teeth (or reproduced by boutique makers for $350 a shot) and of widely varying specification. This pedal supposedly reproduces and enhances one of the classics (although I can find no record of anybody famous using the McCoy model) with improve pot taper, fasel inductor, true bypass switching (so off really means clean off) and a 9V dc input.
Back to sound: Pretty good, clear, distinct wah straight off. No faffing around trying to figure out how to set it (there are no options!). However, you need to have the treble turned up on your guitar or there is little or no wah effect. The sound seems to me to be to be a band-pass filter with an unusually high centre frequency and unusually narrow band. I find the pedal down unusually piercing at times -- and unlike a previous reviewer (who had a clean Frender amp), my amp is naturally warm (a beautiful Marshall DSL201). I also have a Snarling Dogs Blues Bawl -- which currently still seems more civilized and versatile (linear output level control, 3 wah settings and a blues OD/Distortion) -- and not piercing. My guitars are humbucker equipped. So the piercing sounds appears to be a characteristic of the MCoy, not the amp or guitar. [Imagine how piercing that might be with a Telecaster bridge pick-up through a bright Fender amp!!!]

A thankfully simple design, neat circuit board, neat wiring. Looks promising. Vintage-style rack & pinion, friction spring and R-clip -- is the same piss poor design used by almost all wah pedals in the world (except Morely?).My son spent 5 minuntes wah'ing on my two wah pedals (doh!), causing the McCoy to immediately lose its ability to stay in one place - very bad, however I have encountered this with a Snarling Dog wah previously. ***Wahs should all use a balanced pedal*** - remarkably none do yet though - incredible! I was able to fix the pedal by moving the internal R-clip closer to the rack and pinion to increase the friction though. This made the pedal unsmooth for a while but it seems that all is now well again. [Moving the R-clip on an early Snarling Dogs wahs that did not create enough friction to fix the heavy pedal...their new pedals work fine though].

+ Kudos to VOX for giving the customers what they want -- an authentic vintage-style wah of premium specification with the modern 9v dc input and true bypass switching [that is still shamefully absent on too many current effects.]
+ Looks good
+ comes with nice case
+ true bypass
+ simple
+ decent sound, a distinct wah-wah is right there
neutral:VOX heritage now made in the USA (surprise!!!)
- overpriced ($99 would be a fair price) .. although boutique pedals with similar prices and aspirations cost much more, there are comparable modern pedals which cost much less.
- can be shrill/piercing
- needs a lot of treble from guitar to get a wah sound
- friction mechanism is archaic and unreliable (but repairable)
- large bristle stuck in paint work under pedal
I had expected the Rolls Royce of wah-pedals (and it may well be the best wah pedal ever) but it strikes me as more of a Rover or Caddy - in terms of engineering and fit-and-finish. Some room for improvement.

I have used many wahs searching for the special sound. I have tried the Crybaby original, vox 846, vox 847, full tone, crybaby 535q, Boss-10 programable, Budda, Boss touch wah, Snarling Dogs, and have settled on the Vox 848. Being a Michael Schenker Disciple (he now uses the tech 21 wail) I wanted that cat-like growl with string clarity. I also wanted no signal strength effects. my current set up is fairly complex. from guitar to amp: Wah-MXR supercomp-Alesis 230 eq-Digitech GSP2101 limited edition-Alesis 230 eq (again)-quadraverb GT-BBE Sonic Maximizer-DBX 1066 compressor-Rane sm26 mixer-Marshall TSL122. With the 848, i get clarity with a wide sweep and plenty of highs and lows with a growl. I couldn't be happier with the tone

Very simple ofcourse, but the pedal is pretty sensitive, so it rotates very easily. That might make it a little harder to get into a "stuck wah" position. That is normal for this this type of wah. Just like the V847. Just depends what you like.

Schecter C-1 >> Vox Clyde RI >> Vintage Rat >> EH small clone chorus >> Boss DD3 >> Fender Twin Reverb RI.
Not a noisy pedal.
I first tried this pedal with my VOX Valvetronix 2x12. Sounded almost identical to the V847 effect modeled on the Valvetronix foot control. Not much differecnce in sweep, but in the low-high frequency range there WAS a noticable difference. Not more sweep, but more range in sound within the sweep with the Clyde.
So, the second thing that I noticed (or kinda bugged me) was that when I had this pedal in the toe UP position, the tone and frequency didn't just change, but the volume level also decreased. But, the toe DOWN position (all the way down) seemed OK with the Valvetronix. Not too harsh.
I then tried it with my Fender twin 65 RI, and the volume decrease in the toe UP position wasn't there anymore! It seemed to sound the way it was supposed to. But in the toe DOWN position, it seemed just a bit too harsh IMO. But then again, this is a really bright amp, and that might be normal. This is only my second wah.
I didn't notice any volume changes when switching the wah on/off with either amp. Seemed fine to me.
Overall, the sound of this wah is excellent. It is a reissue of a vintage model, but it does have a lot of range like many modern wah pedals. Great sound when I place it before my RAT. The sound cuts through very well, even with little or no distortion. I have yet to try it with my Valve-tone, as soon as that comes in.
I also tried the V847, and I DID really notice the tone being sucked out with that. It was very noticable to me, so I'm very happy with the true bypass, AND the AC adaptor on this V848.

I'd buy this again if I had too because it does have a great sound, true bypass, and the AC adaptor jack. And it is definately a GREAT value for the price. Can't beat it. Love the sound and features, but the sensitivity in range is something I have to get used to. I also really liked the V847 but couldn't deal with the noticable loss of highs, and lack of AC jack. Just wish it was a little smoother (for my tastes) but try it out! You might actually really dig it.

I'm using a Carvin DC747 into the Vox into a Pod Pro. It sounds great with any and all models I have used so far. There is a weird lo-freq noise this thing makes when running thru the hi-gain models, only in the toe up position. I was hearing the same thing with a Vox V847. True bypass is a nice feature - some people claim you can't hear the difference - I can. It is a "must have" feature for me.

I write and record original rock music. I tend to favor a more modern sound, but this pedal is right for me. I have been playing for about 25 years, most recently I have been using a Vox V847 and a Boss wah wah - the Clyde is the best sounding although I think the V847 is outstanding, too. I bought this pedal assuming it would sound as good as the V847, but wanted the true bypass. It sounds very similar, maybe a bit more sweep. I have not been dissappointed.

I use this with a Fender Rhodes 73 Piano into a silverface twin reverb. The pedal sounds good, it has true bypass switching so it doesn't suck any tone when its off. But it seems that when you turn it on it isn't as loud as when you turn it off. I thought it would be the opposite way around, but the signal definately is quieter when the wah is activated. The pedal has a smooth sweep, but honestly the vocal effect of it is not too much better than my crybaby, but it is better.
