This lovely A-F4 was passed on to me by a friend over 14 years ago. It's still solid and never had a problem.

4 knobs (Manual, Rate, Depth & Colour), a large stomp switch (hooked up to a buffered bypass) and a standard Boss style DC input jack. The Colour knob does the same job as the Resonance on a Boss BF-2.

Sound Quality : 9
This is an analogue pedal, made some time in the 80's. Just did an A/B test with a green label MIJ Boss BF-2, and this is almost the same pedal. With all dials at 12 o'clock, the A-F4 is warmer than the BF-2 (some might say less harsh). Shift the Manual dial to around 2 o'clock and it sounds very much like the Boss equivalent.

Not too surprising, as opening the case reveals several "Japan" stamps on the pots and switch case. I can only assume this was MIJ - at the very least, the components which see the most abuse are of high quality.

Reliability : 10
This pedal has clearly seen lots of use, but the switch works every time, the jacks are flawless and there is no noise from the pots. For something that's pushing twenty years old, that's a clean bill of health. The switch has more travel than the Boss equivalent, but you don't notice under your foot.

No info available - bad form these days, how hard is it to scrounge up a manual and make it available as a PDF? We'll see if they respond to my emails.

I don't like flanger all that much as an effect. Tool's "46 & 2" is an excellent use of it, but I prefer phasers myself. I rescued this pedal from my boss (along with some others), and have the intention of on-selling it in order to get something more useful to me.

That being said, I find this is for all intents and purposes the same as the Boss BF-2. It can do mild & subtle, or wacked out and obnoxious - try cranking the Colour dial to max! Almost worth keeping for it's value as a curio!
