Very easy to use. One switch sets the Attack. The first setting works best for single coil guitars, strats & tele's, as it's a little slower in the attack. The 2nd setting is best for humbucker equipped guitars as it's a little harder on the attack. The pedal also has a Volume knob and a Sensitivity knob, that is all you'll need from a great compressor.

This is a vintage pedal. The CO-01 was made in the 1970's I believe. I opened up the pedal, which is built like a tank, and the electronic parts inside are top notch Japanese components. Very good parts. They do not make pedals like this today unless they are from boutiqe pedal makers.
It is not noisy when turned on, I can hardly hear anything when I switch it from off to on, or the other way around.
This pedal goes from that transparent light compression that only ads a little spark to the tone, to a more heavy compression when the Sensitivity knob is turned past 12.00 o clock. Great to just leave the pedal on att most situations for that little extra edge. Or I use it for more heavy compression for those funk or country licks. It sounds great in both situations.
Previous reviewer says it steals top end. I do not agree. When I run the CO-01 through my Fender amp it does the total opposite, it ads a little top end sparkle instead. Just work with the Volume knob to also use it for a little volume boost. When I run it through my Marshall, playing with distortion, it stays pretty much neutral.

These pedals are great. Mine has been used a lot by the previous owner(s?). It's a little beat. But it must be because it's such a good compressor. All CO-01 that I've seen have been quite worn. Great pedals gets a lot of use and abuse. That is proof that the pedal sounds good. If it's crap it will hardly see as much feet stomping on it as it's more likely to end up in a drawer somewhere, instead of on the pedalboard.
I've tried a bunch of compressors and this is the one that stays on my pedal board. I have tried compressors that I have paid tripple to what I paid for this one. One expensive on that I just sold was also very good, but not better. I prefer this one as it was decently priced, it looks cool and it's not a fancy new boutique pedal, but it sounds just as good. Much cooler. The ones who knows, knows....

If you can find a CO-01 it's a big chance that you also can get it at a quite good price. These are pretty much considered vintage by know. If it had been branded Boss, Roland or Ibanez the price would much likely be tripple of what they now go for. Yamaha does not have much cred in the vintage department. But they have always built great musical equippment, for working musicians. It's the good stuff!

This is a really good comp as it doesn't squish up your sound. It does steal a bit of top end though but that's the only drama. It is a good clean boost, especially for single coil p/ups.With humbuckers the treble loss is more noticable. If there was a mod out there for this pedal it would be brilliant.

No probs.Had it since the 80's new. Still goin strong.I did fit a 9v power socket to it as it doesn't come with one and so now you can't use a battery but who needs those little pricks in your life.
