very easy to get a good sound out of it. I never had a manual for it. I've had it since the early 80's never had a problem.this thing goes from barely any distortion to all you'd need.Kind of medium gain not a real high gain pedal.

I use either a Les Paul or strat with this pedal first then an Ibanez fuzz to a micro-vibe then to a dod fx747flanger.Very quiet pedal for a distortion.Sounds very good with all my other effects. You can laugh if you want or say what you want to say about boss big muff's or whatever. I've tried several times to replace this pedal with the newest and greatest whatever pedal, and have always gone back to this pedal. It's nothing fancy it just sounds good.Isn't that all that counts. I've bought a boss ds1, muff fuzz, mxr distortion just to name a few over the years I don't have those pedals anymore, but I do have this one. There's not a distortion that you cant get with this pedal with the exception of maybe extreme fuzz.

well considering I've used it for almost 20 years without a problem says a lot for it. I play all the time so it doesn't get a lot of rest.

I play anything from stevie ray to stp to hendrix plus my own.I've been playing almost 30 years. The thing I like about it is that if you turn the distortion all the way down it sounds like an overdrive. It also has a very responsive tone control.I'll play it till it rots or I croak which ever comes first.
