Ease of Use

Within the 01 series, yamaha produced three different distortions: The Overdrive, The Distortion & The Hardist (Hard Distortion, HD-01). Also this pedal has three knobs: Volume, Tone & Distortion...so it is pretty easy to handle. This pedal is from the 80s.
Sound Quality
:
9
This pedal is METAL sounding, not compareable to any other Yamaha pedal of the 01-series. Use the Tone knob to cut of as much edges as you want. The pedal has enough power and distortion but does not sound dirty or garagy. Like all those pedals that give you much distortion, the pedal produces some noises...but that is within the common level. One weak point is, that the distortion knob does not change the sound very much. So do not use this pedal for little overdrive...that is not possible. I play with tons of stomp boxes and this one sounds different...nice to use some equalizer after it...so you can change the sound of it much.
Reliability

This pedal is undestroyable...but attention: it does not have the common 9V power input. It has a different one and also works with batterie.

All the yamaha 01-series pedals are much underrated and of very high standard. I remember, when they came out, they always have been the most expansive pedals those days here in Europe. I would give that pedal a 10', if the effect level would be more effective.
