Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use, no setup required!

Sound Quality : 8
Pretty good sound quality, but a little distortion when you run drums through it at high volumes.

Reliability : 2
The one I have has not been very reliable. It broke a month after I got sounded like a relay clicking on and off. I took it to get fixed and they said there was nothing wrong. Now it powers up but no sound comes or only comes out when it wants. It has been the source of many headaches. I really relay on a monitor since I play drums and use it on stage for cues.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have not experience support as of yet.

Overall Rating : 6
It would be a great monitor if it just worked on a consistent basis. I love the size the build quality and the sound. But for the price it should work. Probably would give it a 9 if it weren't for the reliability factor.

As simple to use as it can be. Plug in cables, push a button, tweak the EQ a bit, not too much, turn on the volume as high as you want. Isn't it simple? Install them on a stand, ear high and there you go.

Sound Quality : 10
I use them with a little mixer and a reverb for a pair of old synths and a Shure SM 58. I also plug a digital piano, a Yamaha P-80, on another channel(these little boxes have three inputs). I have no noise or very little at a very high volume. I set my EQ at one o'clock. My piano is right in the middle and my sound is clear, great and loud.

Reliability : 10
Yamaha solid

I normally play in my living room with a Nad and a pair of B&W speakers. The sound I get is studio quality. Now in the basement my dear piano is perfectly reproduced by the MSR 100. I think they are a perfect match. So when I gig, I don't have to suffer poor PA systems or even worse, guitar amplifiers. I'm very happy with my set up.

Very simple use. There's a single main volume, 2 -10db line-in volume, 1 XLR-in volume and 2 EQ tone knobs. Like I said, very simple.

Sound Quality : 9
My primary set up is... Fender big apple through a PODXT PRO, to a Mackie 1604 VLZPRO mixer and out to a pair of Mackie SR1530 speakers. I went this rought because I wanted absolute control over my live sound with out the hassle of miking an amp and dealing with room noise and other anoying issues. All that said, my rig isn't ideal for rehearsals. The speakers are jsut to big to be hauling around. My need was to find an amp that was very quite, had excellent sound quality, was light weight, portable and versital. After trying out a variety of amps I came across this active speaker. It sounded great, the PODXT PRO comes alive through thsi speaker and I'm supper please. I only give the unit a 9 because if you through too much bass at it gets sloppy... but what do you expect from an 8" speaker.

Reliability : No Opinion
To early to tell, but it appears rugged and solidly built.

Overall Rating : 10
Based on my experience so far, I would buy it again in a heart beat. I can't stress enough how quited and full bodied the soud from this little unit is. I'm very happy.

The MSR100 is the smallest molded powered speaker available. It is tied for lightest with the Eon10 G2. It is very easy to transport.

One negative regarding transporting the speaker is that Yamaha does not make a cover or gig bag for this speaker. This is a big oversight in my opinion. Fortunately, a gig bag can be ordered at studioslips.com for $55 plus shipping. Studioslips.com also can custom make a cover for your personal needs. I had a gig bag made that allows me - with a right-angle power cable and right-angle 1/4" cable always plugged into the speaker - to merely unzip the gig bag, pull out the cables, plug them in, and start performing.

Even though I am happy with the two band eq set to flat, I think that Yamaha should have included a three band eq. The Eon10 G2, the most similar speaker doesn't have tone control settings.

It is very easy to operate. The manual is easy to understand.

I purchased two MSR100s for a stereo keyboard, the Yamaha PSR3000. The speaker is quiet and sounds rich. I am extremely happy with the sound quality of this speaker. Very good bass response for 8" speakers. The speaker is silent unless your ear is to the speaker - even when turned up.

The speakers go pretty loud, but not nearly as loud as the JBL Eon10 G2s. I chose this speaker over the Eon10 G2 for three reasons: 1) It is more compact, 2) It gets better bass response (according to specs - not according to live hearing), and 3) It is less expensive.

I think a pair of these is preferable to a keyboard amp at amplifying a keyboard. You get great stereo separation, they're light, and the sound quality is very good. I sold a stereo keyboard amp, the Motion Sound KP-100S, to go with this setup. The Motion Sound is not loud enough for my meager needs- I'm a nursing and retirement home entertainer.

The speaker looks very sturdy. I am not worried about it breaking. If it does, I have two, and I could probably survive a gig with just one.

However, I cannot rate this category until I have owned it for a while.

Yamaha's tech support - at least for their keyboard division - is slightly above average. But they do honor their warranties. That I can attest.

Overall Rating : 9
I bought a customer return unit and a new one (both still had the stickers on the speaker) for $648.

I would purchase it again if it were lost or stolen.

I love this speaker. I like the bags that were made for it - making it effortless to setup. But I wish Yamaha made their own bag for the speakers so I wouldn't have to pay so much for them.

I own speaker poles, and the speaker have screws to mount onto speaker poles.

To be perfect, Yamaha could have made this speaker a little lighter (The JBL Eon10 is twice as powerful and the same weight) or a little more powerful keeping it the same weight.

Easy to use.
Excellent manual that includes all the specs and a block diagram.

Sound Quality : 9
I give it a 9 because I haven't compared it to the JBL EON10G2, which would be a fair comparison, although the two products are really enough different that you wouldn't compare them solely on sound quality. That said, the MSR100 sounds great and plays loud.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just got it, so I won't comment on it. Anyone experienced with Yamaha knows that their stuff is rugged.

For those of us who get our sound from simulating a real amp via modeling, either digital or analog or both, AND who also want a stage monitor with mixing capabilities, AND who also want to send that mix to a PA, the MSR100 is a great little unit. For example, I like to split the output from my guitar into two different units. One is a rack that includes a Mesa preamp and a TC Electronic fx. The other is a Boss GT3, which I like for acoustic sym and other unique fx that it does particularly well. With the MSR100, I can mix the two however I want on the fly and know that the mix I am hearing is also what is going to the PA. Since it has three inputs, there is room for one more.
