Depending on the effect, it can be easy or difficult to get a good sound out of this pedal. Editing patches is very easy. The manual is very good and easy to use. It tells you everything about the pedal, and in full detail. One problem with the pedal is that you cannot combine modulation effects.

I use an Ibanez guitar with a Marshall 30-watt amp. The pedal has the Zoom Noise Reduction effect to elimate noise, and you can set this to different levels. Some effects can be weak, and I have noticed a hiss sound on some of the distortions. There are some good distortions, and modulation effects that are hard to find in stompboxes.

I dont think it could be very dependeble live. Lately when I have fresh batteries in it, it shuts down and does not display the battery low sign. This is the only problem I have had with it.

This pedal is good for practicing, and for starting guitarist who like effects. If it were stolen, I would just start buying stomp boxes. I like the variety of effects, but I hate the lack of ability to combine some of them. I compared it to the Zorg equivelent of this. The sampler and drum machine help me make music while I practice. I don't think I would be able to gig with this pedal on it's own.

this pedal is very complicated when u first get it, but when u have it for about a few days, it'll be a drift. my opinion, i think every guitarist should have this pedal. u can edit only half of the settings, that sucks because they have this presets that u cant change. and i know that you'll want to change one.

the sound is GREAT!!! especially the express pedal. ZOOM is a genius to think of making an express pedal that does not only wah's but controls distortion, reverb, module, volume...etc. i got the exact precise sound of blink-182!!! oh and METALLICA!!! if u want to know what i did to get these sounds, email me. and i dont need a drummer anymore because this pedal has a built in drum machine!!!

it is very dependable!! thats probably the last pedal im gonna buy! well, until ZOOM makes a better one. but i dont recomend to use batteries in it, or any pedal, (when your playing live) because the batteries die JUST A LITTLE BIT, and u dont get the same sound u got when u started. i recomend to use a DANELECTRO AC ADAPTOR. even though your suposed to use a VDC-300, which this one is VDC-200, this adaptor works in all foot pedals, FOR GUITAR.

As I previously used individual effects, I found this gadget much more practical and fun. I have no difficulties in setting the sound I want. However, I sometimes have to kneel down to go from one bank to the other since there's no footswitch available to do this job. At first it seemed complicated to edit patches, but after a while,I have no problem (Thanks to the easy-to-understand manual).

I run my American Standard Strat through a Peavey Classic Chorus 212. Zoom is amazingly a low noise effect processor. The clean sound as found in Heavy compressor patch is great. Chorus sound is not so bad (The preset chorus sound however is a bit twangy. I tried to reduce the mid frequency to solve the problem, but could not get the sound I want (My amp's chorus effect sounds better). Distortion sound is weak and thin. Delay and reverb are great though. One thing I am disappointed about is that I can't use this gadget for a day gig. The display is not visible at all (reads even worse than my cheap watch)The manufacturer probably should replace the display with the LCD type (I'm willing to pay extra money if the manufacturer could replace the display of my zoom). This is definitely a sound effect for night players.

I mainly play Bluesy stuff. For practising this gadget is perfect. When it comes to serious gig, you need to combine it with other effects to get the right sound. I've been playing for almost 10 years. I have a Boss ME 10 and some individual effects (Boss and DOD).
If it were stolen I wouldn't buy another one unless the zoom manufacturer replaces the display with a visible one. This effect is easy to carry as it is small and light (unlike the ones I used)not to mention the affordable price.

I use a sguire strat through a claybridge 3x12 thats powered by an 80watt stereo amplifier. My dad owns a Zoom 505 and in comparison I found that his was a lot noiser than mine. It is very versatile and no matter what sound I'm looking for the Zoom GFX 707 delivers. The ZNR (Zoom Noise Reduction) was very good. I particulary liked the distortion effects and the different wahs and pitch benders.

I like to play all styles of music making it perfect for me. I also like to experiment with effects and come up with my own sounds and with all the options and features available there was no problems there. My favourite feature would have to be the built in pedal because it allows me to do so much more with a guitar. The built in rythym settings and the sampling allowed me to sit and jam with myself. I think this unit is perfect for beginners to intermediate players and perhaps even advanced players.

This pedal worked great... for about six months. This pedal is undependable. DO NOT TAKE THIS PEDAL ON GIGS!!! I have had a problem with this pedal on every gig I've used it. I have a friend that has one too and his pedal is just as crappy as mine. The input and output jacks are crap. When you take the back of the pedal off to get at the jacks, the circuit board is in the way and there is no way around it.

This pedal is a good multi-purpose pedal to play around with at home, but DO NOT TAKE THIS ON A GIG!!!!!!!! First of all, the sound output is not even close too enough. Second, the LED works great if its dark outside, but if its daylight, then you can't see anything. Third, you don't know if the pedal is going to work or not. The jacks are cheap! Good for playing around with, but not for any practical purposes.

Well, the pedal comes with a lot of preset patches. Some good...most not too great. It took a good deal of tweaking to find all the right suonds, but I've also never had a multi-effects pedal before. But i've spent lots of time playing this thing, and i've worked with it enough to have about twenty of my own patches with EXACTLY the sound i want. So what I'm saing, is once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to get EXACTLY what you're looking for.

i have this running into my sound blaster live card, and there's no noise at all. i'm using a fender squier telecaster, and the pedal more than makes up for what the guitar lacks. i can't wait to put it up against a dearmond m-75 or something. the effects (once fine tuned) sound ealy good. i've had a couple distortion stompboxes, and this sounds better than they did. i mainly play stuff by switchfoot, marvelous 3, seven day jesus, skillet, relient k...and i can emulate pretty much all of them to a 't.' even gets a decent acoustic sound from the acoustic simulator.

Right out of the box, the booger rocks! Or rolls, depends on what you dial up. Very easy to edit and save effects after a couple of minutes with your nose in the manual - a manual on which I'd like to see a more durable cover, please. This is not some newspaper that we're gonna peruse once and file away, I've already sweated through the outer layers of mine. Easy to read tho', the manual. I like the pullout of the presets. I'm gonna laminate mine and keep it in the gigbag. The first thing that did make me frown tho', was the noticeable drop in out put when going from a dist. patch to one that simulates an acoustic. Not only do you have to dial up the pattern level to 30 on the softer patches, you need to go in and reduce the pattern level on the ODs and DISTs. Nothing that can't be tweaked and saved, tho'.

At church, I plug my Am. Std. Strat. into the GFX 707 and then directly into one of the snake's 1/4" returns to the mixing board, and it sounds just fine. To really let this unit breathe, tho', you simply must play it into a descent pair of headphones. Makes me wanna config. us back to stereo output to the house for the separation! This really fills out the sound. The onboard ZNR makes this one of the quietest pedals I've ever played through - at ANY price. And that feature is, thankfully, adjustable. Right now I'm using the L-Jazz preset and when it gets to a quiet part in the worship service, you can hear the 707 taking the notes out a little too early - again, that's something you can edit to taste. I practice at home with a Peavey Rage 108, and at work with a Peavey Decade, and this is where the amp. sim. shines. It will take me a while to toggle through all the effects, seeing how they sound with the addition of the amp. sims.. I may not be spoiled on costlier multifx boxes, but the dist. and overdrives made me soil myself! I especially loved the VHALEN patch. That's when I realized the depth of the 4-band EQ, it almost covers the fact that our bassist is called away to National Guard duty once every four weeks. But then we just got the ZOOM 234 so... I agree with another reviewer that the auto wah really sucks tone out of your rig, but I might be able to compensate for that once I start fiddlin' with the parameters.

We play progressive praise at our church - Darrel Evans; Sion Alford; Danny Chambers; Vineyard, so I've already used the Distortions, but the mainstay effect is the L-Jazz and the Acoustic Sim.. I love the portability - I moved from a rather involved set up that generated noise in the board and sweat on my brow hauling it in and out twice a week (a half-rack Crate GFX1000; Rocktek OD; Boss Acous. Sim.; and an Ibenez Compressor. Lots of pedals and pigtails. Now I just slip the 707 into the pouch on the side of the Strat's gigbag and sling it over my shoulder. If it was stolen, the thief would double over with the convicting power of the Holy Ghost all over him, and I'd easily find him as I follow my ears to the pitiful cries of agony "Lord, please let me return this to the rightful owner before my loins burst in the street!" If I lost it (sure, I'm gonna lose it.) I would go ahead and buy another one, it's that great a value. I did compare it to the Danelectro Mini 'T-Bone' Distortion. I know that's kinda 'apples and oranges', but once I saw the difference between Overdrive and Distortion, I was on a hunt for the best value in a distortion. I was about to test drive the TS9 when I ran into the 707 and for 30 bucks more, you get the whole shooting match! It's like the Crate GFX 1000 for 225.00 when I thought I wanted a wah-wah!
I wish the jam was long enough for a slow three cord progression so I could play lead over it, but that would undoubtably up the price. It definitely helps me make music, especially with the six second sampler/phrase trainer!

Since the Harmony-Central "Effects" writeup assumes a single effect per pedal, hence no "features" category to fill out, let me review some of the features of the GFX-707:
1. 40 preset and 40 user-programmable patches
2. Analog knobs for amp simulators (really does affect the tone of the patches)
3. Knob for setting the level/volume
4. Dual purpose knobs allow you to modify various values in the 9 or so modules of effects
5. Drum machine (downside is that there is no click count off) with aobut 20 rhythms, including 5/4, jazz, hard rock, R&R, metal, funk, dance, 3/4, 12/8, and multiple settings for a metronome. Drum machine has separate volume setting, too. Drum machine does not function without a cable attached to the the output jack of the GFX-707, so to fool it when using the GFX-707 as a drum machine through another amp, just plug a cable into the output jack of the unit.
6. 6 second riff learner
7. 2 second sampler/looping playback
8. dozens and dozens of effects many of which are controllable in real-time with "short-throw" (small change in pedal greatly affects tone) pedal that is included, including tremelo, vibrato, detune/chorus, wah-wah, fuzz tone, overdrive, reverb, eq, noise reduction filter, phase shifter, harmonizer (crummy), acoustic guitar simulator, and lots of other effects that can be combined for some pretty wild sounds
9. On/off switch (Zoom505 did not have this simple feature)
10. Red LED readout that is visiable only indoors or in low light areas (invisible outdoors in sunlight)
11. Ability to create your own names for the 40 user programmable patches
12. Amp simulator - bright amp, floor combo, floor stack, stack, etc
13. Guitar tuner
As with any of these programmable multi-FX pedals, they are easy to use outta the box, but require lots of time to create your own patches. Since I use the preset patches mostly, I'll give it a 10 as it requires very little time to get it up and running.

I use my pedal with a Fender Champ tube amp (as well as a Fender SS amp) and A Strat clone with single coils and an ES335 copy wiht humbuckers.
The GFX-707 is VERY quiet! This was a most pleasant surprise given the background noise that my Zoom 505 generated.
Some of the preset patches are useless to me as they don't fit my style of music (jazz, blues, some rock), but they sound pretty good. A few even sound GREAT.
I don't try to get the sound of my "favorite" bands, but use the pedal to enhance my own sound and to explore new sounds. It's amazing how setting the pedal to, say, L-LEAD makes me play vastly differently.
The reverb on the GFX-707 does not match up to spring reverb (whether SS or tube), but is way, WAY better than the new DanElectro mini reverb pedal ($49). The chrous effect sounds as good as the stereo chorus on my Fender Acoustasonic JR. The tremelo sounds about 70% as good as tube-driven tremelo (which I never use anyway). The distortion settings are widley caried and cover almost any sound you want, including a pretty good emulation of tube overdrive. I still like my tube amp overdrive better for blues, but for some hard rock, the pedal might be better.
I'll give it an "9" for sound, though it should probably get a 10 when considering value along with sound.

The GFX-707 is completely encased in plastic. I'm not sure how rugged that would be for touring, but I would think for jamming, home practice, and sporadic giging, it would hold up just fine. I've had mine for a number of months now and have had zero problems, so i'll give it a "9". If it had a metal casing, it'd get a 10, but then it would probably cost twice as much.
One thing, though, the short-throw pedal is plastic.I don't know how much stomping it could take. I don't use it much as I prefer a pedal I can rock back and forth on. Still it is suefull to control the amount of distortion, volume, or wah.

With most guitar products, I become less enamored as time goes on, but the GFX-707 is an exception. I like it mroe now than I did when I bought it. It makes my vintage Champ amp sound like a stack! Having owned a Zoom 505, I was reluctant to try the GFX-707, but when I compared the features to other pedals in it's class, I could not resist. I took a shot, knowing that I could return it in 2 weeks and am I glad I did buy it!
I love the amp simulator knobs and the drum machine! My timing has gotten much better using that drum machine, too - and it makes me play differently!
Is the GFX-707 a beginner's unit? Yes! Is it good for more advanced players? Yes! Would I gig with it? Yes! Have I ever gigged before period? Yes. Is it the best pedal on the face of the earth? If you take price into consideration, I would have to answer YES! If it were lost, would I buy it again? YES! Do I plan to sell it as I do much of my other guitar gear? Nope. Have I learned how to use it totally? Nope. Do I suggest you try it? Yup!
So, there it is folks... a great pedal with lots of usable effects in a form factor that is not much bigger than a standard foot pedal for a decent price.

I've owned this unit for about 5 months now and after putting it through the paces, here's what I think. I spent the first couple of hours just going through the pre-set patches using the switching and expression pedals with little problem. But when it comes time to edit the patches or use the sampler you'll probably have to reach for the manual. Which isn't really a problem. I found the manual to be useful and easy enough to understand. Editing is fairly intuitive once you figure out what buttons do what. One thing that threw me off at first, was that the display doesn't show the correct letter in the bank/patch display (for pedal volume, it shows up as "UL" instead of "VL" ,for instance.) but I got over this quickly, as it's not that big of a problem. I had problems getting the jam play function to work at first, but after I readjusted the expression pedal it worked fine. Couple points off for the display shortcomings and the jam play/expression pedal fiasco.

Geez, where do I start? There are some many sounds packed into this box it's hard to comment on them all. BTW my setup: Yamaha pac112>Boss blues driver>ts10>vox>GFX707>vox pathfinder. (a.k.a the starving college kid living in an apartment setup) First off, this box is very quiet on it's own, with batteries or even my el cheapo radio shack adaptor. There is Zoom Noise Reduction added in as an adjustable setting, and it is quite effective to boot granted you use it correctly. I mostly bought this as a replacement for all those "extra" pedals that I had my eye on but didn't want to throw down the cash for(verb, chrorus, phase, etc). I prefer a clean tight funky sound with a bit of spacey-ness thrown in. I wasn't looking for a metalish or distorted tone....and boy am I glad, because I would have been dissapointed. For the most part the distortions, overdrive, fuzz, metal patches are pretty lackluster. Even with tweaking they still come out weak and cheesey. I don't even use them at all.
But what I really got this unit for the diffrent reverbs, delays, eq, modualtion patches, which turned out to be quite useful and impressive. The reverbs and delays are nice, subtle and very tweakable so it's easy to add a bit of flavor here and there. Modualtions patches are about 50/50. Some patches, like the flange, phase, chorus, autowah/pedal wah, trem, echo, panning, filter are great for coloring your sound, and can be tweaked to be just right. Others: ring mod, step, time trip are just bells and whistles used to fill out the patch list. Not much there in terms of everyday use. I'm still undecided about the pitch shifter, it's ok, but just doesn't sound right to me, so I don't use it to much. The compressor isn't the greatest but it'll suffice till I get a real one. The EQ and noise reduction are getting used more often, now that I refined my tweaking technique.
The Sampler function is pretty useless in terms of everyday usage. You can get 6 seconds of sample without a modualtion effect added, and play it half speed, but I never use that function. Using the jam play you get a paltry 2 seconds worth of sample. which is just long enough to do almost absolutely nothing. You can play it forwards, backwards or use the pointless DJ record scratch thing. I believe they threw this half-hearted sampler in just so they could use it as a selling point.
Rhythm patches sound good and I use them quite often just keep tempo while I'm practicing. but there is no variation to them except for tempo, so they get old fairly quickly.
As most of the other reviewers have said, this box takes *alot* tweaking to get it just right. Damn straight, this thing is tweak, tweak, and tweak. and the knobs are very sensitive so it takes patience to really get a great sound. Sometimes you spend more time turning the knobs then plucking the strings which isn't good.
Oh yeah, the factory pre-sets patches are a joke and do nothing but stink up the joint. Did they even listen to the patches before they shipped it out? I would happily sacrifice all of the factory patches if I could get a few more user patches to save to.
For overall sound quality with distortions, preset patches etc. I give a 7. For verb, delay, eq, phase, ect. I give it a 9.

It's plastic but is still pretty sturdy. It handles my big ass 13's stomping on it all the time fairly well. I would take it easy on the expression pedal as it's plastic and will probably be the first thing to go. (knock on wood) I usually just jam with friend and it's fine for that, but I can't see myself wanting to gig with it as there could be to much foot tapping involved. Otherwise sturdy, and seems like it could go the distance.

A good unit for creating a wide range of sounds and moods for a relatively cheap price. Great for practicing and jamming with buds...and friends:-)

After you get over the first confusion it's ok but easy will be something different. Make sure you have the manual at hand when you make your first own patches. I think better Handling of this box would need much more control-elements, so it's the best you can get out of three knobs and some keys.

The sound leaves a lot to be desired. The distorion-module is a buzz-box. Almost every sound ends up with harsh clipping.
Im still fighting with this Box to get a nice soft bluesey sound somewhere in the middle between clean an crunch. This seems almost impossible. The high gain sounds are kiddy-making-metal-too and will make any 13-year-old with a DM149,- Scrapocaster very happy.
The amp-simulation, EQ-section and the reverb are ok. Nothing to get excitetd about but usable. The modulation-module is fun for fooling around with a lot of effects. But when you want to make music - better get the desired effect from somewhere else. All those efects do the right thing but not in a very musical way. They sound harsh and very artificial. With the 707 almost every Guitar sounds the same.
The drum-box ist very simple but sounds good me.

I like the beat-box but the sound and the effects are only "better-than-nothing"-quality. My favorite patch is a "flat"-setting wich uses only the amp-sim, a little noisereduction and reverb.
Most of the time I use this thing a practice-amp with some headphones because it's more handy than my 19"-Tubeman-preamp (and it runs on rechargeable batteries).

I use a cheap strat, one of those ones you get in a package, but i have upgraded my amp to a large randall. I get a really good sound especially if I use the amp simulator on combo B, it sounds awesome. Zoom did a good job with the noise reduction, but the only bad thing about it is they give you the crumbiest sounds, but you can edit and make you own and make the sounds better. I use Chorus on alot of my effects. I play alot of creed, guns and roses, and older style of rock, so i dont need all the newer techno style effects, i just need wah, flange, accoustic, chorus and that kind of stuff. I also edited one patch using the metal distortion with chorus and it give you a very good type of "Zakk Wylde" sound.

If you're more used to operating boss processors (like I was),
you'll probably end up making reference to the manual more than
once. After getting used to the 707, it's about as easy as it
gets. At first, getting the sound you're looking for isn't as
easy as one might like, but with a little patience, you'll find
that sound and won't be dissappointed.

Having never been impressed with Zoom products in the past, I was very hesitant to even try this unit. Never would have guessed I would end up buying one. Using an old Ibanez studio guitar, and powered speaker cabs with a rackmount preamp and a sonic maximizer. Effects all sound good, better than the boss ME-30 (the processor that I previously owned). And you can get those great growling tones you
hear on albums by Cynic, Gordian Knot, and Aghora, tones you just can't seem to get with a boss processor. The drum machine is extremely limited, not a replacement for a drummer. It's fun to jam with.

The sound is quite professional.... and for this price, it's INCREDIBLE!! However the default patches are not very impressive, I was initially quite disappointed when I first started using it. They sounded weak and lame! Actually with the correct settings, GFX-707 can generate really cool and wicked sound.... I wonder why the guys in the factory never put any efforts on this.
So, if you're using this unit, you'll DEFINATELY have to edit the patches to unleash its potential to the max! There are some websites too where you can get some really nice patches.

Basically I play a lot of Santana, Slash and Eric Clapton. I used to play in a band for a few years, but now I play in church mostly. With my GFX707, I can get some really cool Santana and Slash sound.... I also get some really nice acoustic and rhythm sound I need to play in church.
All in all, this is a very versatile unit and suits all sort of playing. The built-in drum machine give it an extra plus, useful for practice. This is definately a better option to the ZOOM 505.
However, if you guys in ZOOM are reading this, here's some comment:
1. Please put effort to give us the best sound this unit can give, rather than those weak default patches, also... most of the patches are useless.
2. I wish there were variation in the drum machine.
Anyway, I hope ZOOM will continue woking on producing great effects with affortable price!
God bless!!

I shouldn't really be commernting on this seeing as i only got it 4 days ago for my birthday, but i have played on it a LOT! On the first day i must have played for about 5 hours in total, and nearly that on the next. At first i just used the presets but now i've figured how to edit my own patches. It's my first unit and i found it a bit bewildering in the shop but when i got the manual out it was dead easy. Good sounds, funky sounds, and ridiculous sounds you'll never use are all easy to get from the presets or creating your own.
People say that it takes ages to switch between pre-sets, but they havent tried offing the 'direct load'. Making it easier to use would mean more peadls/buttons meaning more expensive. No thanks, i'll manage with this, which is a joy to use. No Really, it is!

I use a Squire Strat and this weird poly-tone taurus amp (or summat) and it sounds REALLY good. The Zoom Noise reduction actually works, and is very good as well. My own attempts at creating patches sounded well, cack, but thats because I'd never even seen any unit till 2 days before. I only started guitar 3 months ago, and don't even have my own guitar/amp (i've got a cappo!) so i can't play decent solos/songs yet, so i cant compare with artists for sounds. I don't really have enough experience to mark it well, but my dad, bro, and my mate absoloutley love it.

I play in church but its not exactly cool, or Hip Even, but chourus sounds good for the slowies, and just about anything else.
Also mint value 4 your cash. I dont know about replacing it. I'd try more expensive units as i have never even tested dearer ones, (i didnt have an extensive budget) I have no idea.
The expression pedals very useful. It also has rhythm patterns (45 of them) a sampler, but it's too short for anything too substalsial. Does run half speed though. A weird jammer thing that's: 1) only 2 seconds, 2)Impossible to use. I don't know how to work it yet, or over will. Lovely chourus, and a DECENT distorsion.
It's only major downside, is that its turning me into a guitar freak.(No offence, guitar freaks) Beeing a guitar freak is too expensive for my liking.

30 seconds out of the box, and this unit has turned me from being a mediocre closet guitarist into a medicore closet guitarist with a lot of cool new sounds. Operation is very staightforward. Takes some time to edit patches, but once you've got the groove you're looking for, you've got the groove you're looking for. Manual is fairly comprehensive, and not too difficult to understand. I wouldn't have minded a few more suggestions on use of some of the features, as again, I'm just a mediocre closet guitarist who rarely plays outside of my home any more (wife and two kids who are wondering where that glazed look in eye really comes from).... but it doesn't take long at all to figure out many things about this box.

I play a Carvin V220T with a old Peavy parctice amp. For me, this pedal is ultra silent! A lot has been said in here about the preset patches. All I can say is ultra critical ears must be super sensitive, because I find the presets at least worth checking out. There are many custom patches posted on the web that really customize a sound for you. Yet, many of these creations aren't that far off from the presets. Just a matter of taste. If you can't get the sound you want or need out of this box, then you just ain't trying hard enough! Oh yeah... there's a drum machine too. Not too shabby.

Hello I'm Bob Scott from a previous review dated 20 Jan 2000. This is an update after more extended use. I have been using the 707 exclusively with my group since Jan to present date(20 May 2000). As stated before this is a very good pedal for the bucks but does have some drawbacks for playing live as follows:
A-No way to switch between banks with a single push of a foot. You have to bend over and push a button.
B-Some times when changing to the next patch I hit both pedals and go into bypass. This requires to more pushes to correct. One to get back out of bypass and one or more to get to the next required patch. By this time you have left an obvious hole in you sound and bandmembers are looking around to see whats going on. BE SURE FOOTED.
C-Forget about playing outside in daytime, not even on a cloudy day. It's totally unreadable in daylight. Not by using something to cast a shadow on the readout, it still won't work, give it up, this is a indoors processor only!!!!!
D-The Wa-Wa has a boost in volume that I can't adjust out. When you turn it on and hit the high frequency peak it's just to loud in relation to your set playing level. The only way I have been able to control this was to turn my guitar volume down before I turned on the wa wa. This reduces feel, sustain and is just to awkward. Can't use it.
Zoom are you out there???You have done a great job of packing a lot of effects in a small portable pedal at a very reasonable price. Good Job. If you could go back to the drawing board and work out a way to jump banks quickly, easily and come up with a read out visable outside on a sunny day!!!I can live with the close pedal switches and become more sure footed because i love the portability of the small pedal. I'm not much of a wa wa man but some more control of that would be nice. If anyone would like to talk it over you can reach me at ttocsbob@hotmail.com

Zoom's 707 has expanded features from the 505. Analog style parameter control
knobs for easy and quick set. Built-in pedal and the pedal can be
configured for volume or expression control and module on/off-switch is also
operated by the pedal.
A six character display shows parameter name while editing patches
and can be used for patch naming. The manual is clear and easy to read,
a leaflet is a great improvement from 505's sheet.

I was supprised that noise level is very low, hardly noticeable. Great
improvement after 505. I play Charvel through a Marshall SL100 and
a 4x12" Marshall cab. All distortion types seem to have same gate effect
and have some kind of dynamic loss and weakness, so I use my TS10 to give extra punch.
The distortions in 505 sounded lot better and had greater dynamics.
I did get every sound I wanted, but needed hours to work with. I don't use ZNR at all
because of dist gain and gate effect, I found it useless. The eq is one
of the best features in the 707 and improves dist dynamics. Some of
the modulation effects have to be jokes or simply Zoom's programmers had to fill
code frames with something. Anyway these give a toy label to the unit.
Choruses and flanger and delay are great, but the pitch is out of tune on
every semitones and I measured this with a frequency meter. A program bug or incorrect
data in rom chip? Has anyone noticed the same pitch shift problem?
On average the 505 had better pitch effects. Wah works great but need lot of
practice because of short pedal movement. Reverbs are clear and variety
and combination effects delay+room and delay+hall are compromises but
usefull. Jam play is one of toys. Sampler is another.
Rhythm accompaniment is usefull for timing practicing.
Pedal has a very short movement and is pretty tricky to use for wah or pedal
pitch effects. Amp simulator is very real and works just like a speaker
cab and mike, so "amp" statement is little misleading. Many seems to believe the amp simulator makes their tiny combos sound like wall of full stacks. Type stack A works like 4x12" cab with Celestions and SM57 mike. Great for recordings direct
to desk.

For the price the 707 is worth of every penny. It has some great effects like
vintage style chorus and tape type delay, but some effects are just waste of space.
I wish it had more flexible pedal module that allows
the module on/off switch to be set to the different module than the pedal,
separate compressor and distortion modules and more accurate pitch shifter.
I play mostly metal and the distortion module needs some kick by my TS10 to get
enough density to the sound.
If it were stolen or lost, I would check something better.

It can seem pretty hard to get the exact sound from it at the beginning, but after some time you get used to it and it becomes easy. The manual is good, which is very important since it's nearly impossible to understand what to do without it. The patch editing is enough easy not to get stuck but enough complex to get a good sound. That's also very important because most of ZOOM's patches suck, and the most needed patches are located very far from each other
Sound Quality
:
9
As I said, ZOOM's patches suck. You can get pretty good sound from it even without editing, but if you create your patches - the sound quality is up to your skills as a patch editor. The EQ, NR and Amp Simulator are good; so are those modules like Distortion, Chorus, Echo, Acoustic Simulator etc. The only problemis, there are too many things to do. I have a Strat, and it seems to sound good with this processor. With the Slow Attack module I can create really scaring sounds, and if I set Gain of the distortion to max it sounds really heavy.

It's plastic, but I don't think it isn't dependable. I mean, if you use it right. It's made for sound processing, not for breaking stones with it. As far as gigging is concerned, I can say that it IS dependable enough for live use, since I do use it onstage.

It matches my style really good, and much better than stompboxes do - because I need to use really many stompboxes to get the same sound as from the GFX-707. Maybe I'd consider upgrading to GFX-8 sometime, but for now I'm satisfied with what I have.

This is more complicated than it looks. When I first got it I was fooled by the small size and tried straightaway to edit sounds, but couldn't!! Need to read the manual to find out how to understand what the terms on the LED display mean. Channel switching is quite easy, although only can move from one to the next and not jump from 1 to 4, for example. Also there is a slight delay when switching channels, but it's understandable. From my experience all digital mutlifx have it. The thing that attracted my most to buying it was the expression pedal, Wow, imagine a tweakable wah pedal plus a lot of other effects for just $130. After I bought it I found the wah sound unflexible despite the parameters you can change. Worse, the expression pedal is so small that I can't control the wah sound. A bit of movement will move you from one end of the spectrum to other. It takes a lot of delicate footwork, but the idea is stupid when playing something like White Room or All Along the Watchtower.
Sound Quality
:
7
This depends on a lot of things. I at first bought it for recording direct to the computer sound card, and, expecting the distortions on this multifx to be, well, 'you get what you pay for', prepared a Boss OD-2 in front of it in the chain. For recording direct, with any of its built in distortions or even with stompboxes in front, I give this a 0. Not a single usable sound with distortion. It's all buzzy sounding, even with all the different cabinet simulations. When going direct with clean sounds, it's quite cool actually.
When I found out that this thing totally sucks for going direct and was going to give it to my grandmother, I thought Why not give it a try in front of the amp? Now that's where the Gfx707 shines. All the buzz and mud is gone. Distortions are still unusable though, unless you get an external overdrive stompbox in front of it. Turn cabinet sim to Stack A and rock. Reverb is the best feature on this one. Where can you find a dedicated reverb box this cheap too? I like to turn the tone of the reverb low to get the powerful 'dark hall' sound. Made my 1970s Marshall Lead 12 (12watt) practice amp that has no reverb, sound like a stack in an empty auditorium.

I rate the overall rating based on Value for money. And this thing IS value for money. Let's see, a typical reverb stompbox is already around $150, and a wah pedal is around $120. And for $130 you get all these and more. And even if you're just looking for a reverb stompbox, why not get this instead, where you can switch channels of different reverbs, something that can't be done on a stompbox.
I have tried other slightly more expensive Multifx and this one can put up a fight with them. Except for the POD which is my main fx now, it's the greatest cabinet sim for both direct and live. Also tried the Digitech RP line of pedals, Korg AX line and the DOD VGS50. They are all way overpriced, suck for direct recording and all sound the same when going to the amp. Maybe except for the small expression pedal, this little fx can beat all of them. One multifx I haven't tried is the Boss GT series, which looks promising but is way expensive too. Get this one now, plus a cheap overdrive pedal to go with it, and you can save lots of money instead of buying 10 stompboxes or a $500 multifx.

All the Preset sounds are terribly amateurish and typical of zoom they put a ton of crappy step ones and twirly noises which you just cant use at all. Editing is a nightmare you have to constantly tweak and tweak AND TWEAK AND TWEAK .. plus you have to go through about 40 effects to get to two seperate ones you want. The manual makes it look great but really its a pile of shit.

I use a Ibanez Rg 508 and A marshall vs100 , okey where to start..
The distortions are so damn terrible !! its like a bee stuck in a glass jar.. the tone is crap and the delay is very very fake.
My favourite artists are joe satch and steve vai and believe em you'll have no chance of sounding like them.. maybe you'll sound like freddy and the kentucky farmers (your local garage band)

The 707 is simple to use. The knobs make patch editing very quick. After making a few of your own patches it's simple to remember what the knobs change in the sound. The manual is OK. It has a section up the front for people like me who never read instructions until things go wrong.

I use an Epiphone Special II through a direct box into a mixer/P.A.system.
The Acoustic Simulator is very noisy and needs a lot of tweaking in the EQ stages to sort it out.
I love The Cure's music and unfortunately I can't stick a Phaser and Flanger together to get the same sound as Robert Smith.
The Amp simulators work well through the P.A. our church uses.

I play in a church band and only get to let loose every now and then. I normally use a lot of Chorus to get a nice warm sound for slow songs. If there is anything that calls for heavy distortion the 707 doesn't let me down. If it were stole or lost I'd buy another one. It's excellent value for money. I chose this because it beat the DOD in it's price range easily. I wish it could flange and phase at the same time. The drum machine is pointless except for practice. Jam and Sample are limited and there are some pretty pointless modulations like Ring mod. This one reminds me of programming sound on my Commodore 64 - but that was years ago. Great pedal for the price.

Since you have to press many times to go to the effect you want,i give it 5.But other than that just press and go,the expression pedal also functions as volume pedal on some effects except the one like wah2,trace jet, etc, the one you use the expression pedal to control it.

Intimidating... at first. I've owned this pedal for several months, and have only just recently been getting the sounds I want out of it. Most of the patch editing makes sense, but it's rather debilitating in it's design of patches -- being unable to turn on and off individual effects within a patch in real-time can be very frustrating

Sounds pretty good to me. I'm using a Peavey Amp with cheap old Ibanez, or my home-built guitar. This effect pedal manages to retain the tones of the guitar without any disturbing hiss or hum. A good number of the factory presets sound awful cheesy, but if you stick with your own custom patches you should be okay. I don't use the distortions or compressors. The pitch shifters are pretty nice -- I especially liked the patch "Trace" -- but I had to turn off the distortion module and run my BOSS OS-2 to get that tone I wanted.

When I run this pedal through the effects loop in my amp, and the rest of my pedals (wah, distortion, compression) through the instrument input, I get a very nice balance of sound without any hiss or hum. It's been a lot of fun to play with, and has given me a nice palatte of sounds to work with. One does have to be careful though --this pedal can be used in EXTREMLY poor taste if you just mess around with the effects randomly. The Expression pedal is really sensitive, and requires very precise movement to do what you want it to. In other words, you will have to LEARN how to play this pedal to truly incorporate it into your overall sound.

The manual is a must I lost mine for a while and was ready to give the pedal away because i was getting nothing out of it, the manual however eventually turned up and I beagn to understand this pedal a little more. It takes a lot of EQ tweaking to get the sound right.
Howevr I've always said that I'd rather a pedal that was difficult to use than a pedal with only 3 different sounds, think versatility in this category.
It isn't that hard though.

When I first tried this after buying it I wondered why the hell did ZOOM make a pedal that sounded worse that its earlier models, however playin around with the EQ setting in this pedal is the key. You turn all those tinny flangers in to seas of liquid music, weak distortions in to fat earthquake type tones, I only noticed a slight difference between the fuzz tone on my big muff and the fuzz on my zoom, of course the fuzz on the big muff is better but still, the zoom comes with a hell of a lot more than a tone switch.

I play grunge alas it will not die in my heart, therefor I use big distortions and wierd noises for solos and with the expressin pedal it certainly does come in handy for those. I've been playing for three years now but I think if I got a lot more experienced I would replace the effects I use most on this pedal for indivual pedals however I would keeps this unit (I aint never used a wah live but the 707s got one if i should take the fancy). The sampler thing I found a little useless but the metronome isn't making it perfect for home recording on to a 4-track.
overall it takes a little getting used to but its worth the time spent. And for 99 of my english pounds, bargain.

One can easily handle the editing process of this unit, althogh all that freedom can be quite intimidating. The manual tells the player everything, except it does not go into that much detail concerning the four effect modulators. What I mean is, the box says "9 effects at once" but there are only 8 cattegories (including TOTAL, and PEDEL, which I don't believe are actualy effects). So, I wonder if one can use two effects under one cattegory simeltaniously. The Jam Play is confusing as well. I have yet to figure out how to use it.

You know what? The sound quality sounds good to me, though I'm not very picky. As long as one can hear the pitch, then that is grand with me. One point I want to make clear though, is the fuzz. I usualy do not use distortion effects as much, but I have to admit, the fuzz is one effect that, as unpicky as I am, showed great prestige. It was like a big fuzzy worm. I liked it a lot.

I play my style of music; If I get famous I'll let the industry categorize my music for me. I like Russian and Scottish Celtic music. I also like spacy music; long drawn notes with wavy beauty in the backround or foreground. I have "played" for about 4 years. I have a 4 track. Anywho, the thing that worries me the most about this item is the lack of the ability to mix my favorite effects together. For instance, can I mix the chorus, autowah, and delay together to make my favorite UFO effect? Or step with autowah, or vibrato with ring? I could with the 505. But can I with this 707? If not, then I don't want it anymore. My favorite part about the 505 was the ability to mix a lot together to get that effect of wonder, imagination, inspiration. If I can't do that with this 707 than I shal cry immediatly. Some one tell me if I can do what I said with this 707. I am starting to doubt I can. In fact, I'll wager, 10 to 1, that I cannot. Lord, tell me if I can and have me loose the wager.

I'm a pro audio tech. I hear everything. I've noticed while I do like the richness of the efx ther is definatly a lot of noise when the gate is open. especially on the chorus effects. Overall i'm pretty impressed by it. But the ACCOUSIM module is extreamily noisy, and i won't even touch it. As well it has very little headroom on the input...turn the patchlevel down to about 15 on ANY clean effect or you'll get clipping .

I'm playing christian rock, through a Vantage VT-42J with single coils at the neck and body position and a humbucker at the bridge. I use a fender M-80 with a line directly into a Peavy Envoy110 (using both amps simultaniously) I get nice kick from this box. I like the distortion effects and i think this is a very useful little processor. I'd like to see it's sound cleaned up a bit, the S/N isn't as good as some people are raving. (Trust a sound tech on this) but that the only sound complaint i have....the distortion isn't a very grungy overdrive. but that not the effect i like fomr my distortion a lot (i do like it but i have otehr ways to get it) Overall I'd probably get a pod again, as i don't use the expression pedal much. but this is a keeper. The only other thing i would say is if you're a minimalist, who likes a little distortion and maybe some chorus, this may not be the way to go...theres a lot of effect here. My last complaint is the lack of being able to mix effects...i think maybe haveing each of the 5 modules able to take any of the effects (in that order) woudl be cool....much more versatile...and allows for overlapping and combining (i.e. no chorus and flange, phase, wah) but other then that i can work around it. Good buy....

The GFX-707 is fairly easy to use; the manual is straightforward and helpful and the knobs and large display are nice. Editing can't be done quickly, and the "Easy Edit" function (supposed to let you adjust the patch in real-time) isn't practical since you can't easily reach the knobs while playing and you can't specify which parameters they control. And the Jam Play feature is just a gimmick as far as I can tell; it's too limited to be of any real use. But otherwise, this box is all set up very well.

I use a Fender Strat and either a Marshall MG-10 or Fender Frontman 15R. Frankly, I can get better distortion by turning up the gain on the Marshall than by using the distortion effects on the GFX-707. They're not horrible, but it takes quite a bit of tweaking to get a really good sound. The quality of the effects is pretty good considering the price. A few of the modulations sound overly synth-y or digital if overused, and there are some effects (like ring modulator) that I'll never use. On the other hand, the sheer number of good effects that you get makes up for the poor ones. The built-in drum machine is handy for practice, too.

If you're looking for a good multi-effects pedal that doesn't cost too much, the GFX-707 is a great choice. Alone, it's good, and paired with a really good distortion pedal or amp, it's great. It's perfect for beginners who want to try out every effect on earth. If lost or stolen, I'd probably actually take the opportunity to upgrade to something more expensive, but for now, it's wonderful. Buy it.

The 707,I find at least, is for the most part, simple to establish a good, decent sound. Don't analyze the manual, just read it.

I myself use an extremely beautiful Fender Lone Star Strat pushed through a Fender M-80 amp, but for some, it doesn't really matter what amp you decide to play through since there are a variety of amp sounds you can select from. Only one setting is too loud in comparison to the others, and that is setting A4, AMPDRV. Louder is not always better, such as the case. Every single other sound is on the same output level from STDCHR(studiochorus) to VHALEN. There is a great consistency of the effects, not to mention that almost any artists "sound" can be achived with a few alterations. One can go from the sounds of B.B King, to Slash, to Joe Perry, all the way to Rage.
What most impressed me was the variety of acoustic sounds that were offered. Very versatile and easy to find what you're looking for
Another small note on the Chorus effect. I find it really cool that with this model they included a vintage chorus option.

Dependable, yes. Gigworthy no. The major drawback to this great little machine is that if you're playing a gig, and you want to shuffle between sounds, you gotta bend over, hit a button with your finger, then get up again, and do your footwork. Illustrates very poor showmanship and indicates instability and uncomfortableness on stage.
At home, this machine is wonderful. The built in drum machine is absolutely an asset. Perfect for laying down the foundations for the songwriting process. Its easy to play a guitar and hum a few notes, but the drum amchine makes it easy to fill up the sound and it helps with setting the tempo of the song. Not only that, but setting the drum machine on metronome and running scales over that really emphasizes on timing and keeping it, and from there you can increase the speed of the metronome and perfect your speed and accuracy

Could not be much easier !! just select a user patch, turn the knobs for instant effects variations in real time...
For deep editing, you can select or turn off effects modules(COMP/DIST,ZNR/EQ,MOD,REVERB),many effect styles for each one, then turn knobs for ajusting the way you want the parameters...

Sound quality is at top !! 20 Bit A/D and D/A converters,31 Khz sampling rate ,4 amp sim and 2 variation for each one, many dist, overdrive, time based effects like chorus and delay are just fantastic, frequency modulation ones are also good, you can get all what you want from the beast, from extreme hyper distorted black-metal sound like NIDEN DIV or Burzum to the soft 70' overdrive ,also good vintage chorus tu use with clean parts,...but you must go deeply into editing to get exactly what you want !!!I've created about some fantastic patches since i get it,i sit sometimes for hours with my (very bad!!) guitar in hands, with headphones, and program each parameter separatly (i also love synthesis programming)...
rarely use amp (!!!) 'cause i put it into a mixer for recording,...it stand in every mix i do without extra-optimisation or deep Digital editing...i just normalize the track to get the best S/NR and attenuate the track on final mixing...this unit is not noizzzy at all and you don't need to use ZNR in general, but if you use COM and extreme equalisation with higher level of dist....set it to 4 or + ..

Many features and an exelent quality/price ratio !! I love the pre-programmed drum patterns/metronome that suit all the basic and -relatively- complicated signatures, many styles(see the *.pdf manual on zoom web site),it let me sync my play to the tempo...but you can't control it with the expression pedal !on composing and basic arranging,i note the bmp variation on a piece of paper and this feature help me a lot to do that,...on recording, the bmp and signatures variations are programmed on the sequencer for the concerned measures, the synchro is assumed by a basic drum pattern or metronome played on my midi stuff...
The sampler is also very good to make some good melodies or transpose them in the same time(sorry no intelligent harmoniser but only a basic pitch shifting and a multi mode pedal-shift!!!),the 6second duration is only good to sample a little rithmic arrangement(note that modulation and reverb section effects are temporarely disabled when using sampler)...the bad thing is that you can't get two Modulation effects like flange and pitch ...because they are both in the same effect module(modulation one),but there is although some combination like tremolo+chorus ...30 presets and 30 user fully programmable patches ...manual is good and you can find all what you need to know about the unit (details like output load or independance also present),but to get an idea before getting it ,tak a look to the *.pdf manual online,it's the same as the one bundled with GFX707.
I'll tell you,if you want a multi FX pedal with nice effects and features that will help you to "start" guitar or play it better, make some good compos,...the thing is for you !for the moment it's enought to me and it suit perfectly my needs,i'll probably try to find a used DOD FX86 Death metal and a harmoniser or a whammy to improve my sound palette,...but the GFX707 has really improved a lot my playing in different ways,it's a very flexible and musical piece of electronics ...if someone want to share or get some patches,or if you do some sequencing with a PC,feel free to contact me.

I'm only gonna give this thing a 5. I use a photo flame strat, with a SD hotrail in the bridge. I run it through a Crate Blue Voodoo half stack. I use a EH Big Muff for my main distortion. I bought this thing to use for messing around and to add some sounds to my setup. Well, it's not that great. The distortions are very weak. I only found 1 setting I could play with. The mod effects are pretty decent. You can get some cool sounds with the auto-wah, talker, and step modes. The drum machine is very basic, and the sample is useless. I'd say if you are a beginner and want to toy around with some different effects, this might be ok. If you've been playin for a while (6yrs for me) you might want to try something else.

I play a variety of music, from Smashing Pumpkins, RATM, Deftones, Foo Fighters, and alot of my own stuff. It woudn't help me in any way to create any new music. I'm thinking about getting a Korg AX1000-G. I'm on a budget and want the effects, but if the Korg doesn't do the trick, back to pedals. If this was lost or stolen, i'd claim insurance on it and buy something better. One thing i wish it had was a way to swith the mod's and distortion on and off, but you need to use the effects in combination of eachother. I'd say if you are a beginner player who wants to learn some tricks, or sounds, this could be a decent starting tool. Learning to play along with a drum machine helps you lean to keep time. Otherwise, don't get it. You'll regret it.

Most of the presets sounded good and possably usable. One thing I've learned over the years that what sounds good over your earphones at home my not sound so good when you run it through your amp playing with a band. I immediatly started editing the user patches while hooked up to my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for the line up of songs my band does and in just a couple of hours with the manual gave me good understanding of how it works. Easy to edit. The manual gave me enough info to do anything I needed. The EQ names is new(different) and confusing to me but seems to work OK.
One Problem I have with the unit is the inability to bank up and down with a foot switch. To go between banks you have to bend over and push a button. This is OK when your at the house but when your playing live, not to cool. You can go between banks by continuously pushing the patch buttons and when it reaches the last or first Patch in a bank, it goes to the next bank depending if your going up or down. If you are playing live, only have a few seconds between songs, its a lot of foot tapping to go form A-1 to F-5. Constantly bending over between songs to bank up or down gives the appearance to other people that your having problems with your unit and can't get it adjusted.
The drum machine is nice but I can only see using it for practice. To be usable in recording or live it would require a seperate output and the ability to start and stop by use of the foot switch. I think is great for jamming and working riffs for song compositions.

To take this unit out of the box, power it up, plug in some earphones and hook up your favorite guitar, it sounds awsome. Like I said above, to run it through an amp playing with a live band is a little more tricky. I use an Ibeanez RG-450 into the 707 input with the output going to the power amp in of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. This unit is very quite, impresingly quite. Usually running compression and distortions together is very noisy but this unit handles it very well. The only thing I noticed negative is at the end of some songs where I was sustaining a comp/dist note, the noise gate cut in to quick. Hopefully backing off the gate one notch will correct this without gaining noise. The main effects I use is compression, EQ, Distortion, reverb, delay and chorus. They have all have been sounding very good to me. I was suprised the first time I rehearsed with my group. I editied the patches at home and figured I would have to do a whole lot of tweaking during rehearsal to get them sounding right but they were very close. All I did was a few level adjustments. A lot of the effects on this unit are effects I haven't had available before and may incorperate them into my playing as I get familiar with them. They sound very interesting and I see a lot of potential for future sounds. I have been very impressed with the distortions with lots of gain available, you can make the chorus very transparent which I like, the compressor gives a very even sustain without pumping. As far a sound, the jury is still out on this one. I have had it since Christmas(almost one month) and know myself well enough that I will have to become a little more familiar with this unit to get the very best out of it.

I play contemporary country/rock Gospel with a band called, "The Answered Prayer Band". I have been playing 37 years. My equipment is: AMPS-1998 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, 1990 Bandit 112, Peavy Pacer, Peavy Audition 110, Park PGB 15 GUITARS: Ibanez RG-450, Fender Bullet, Hoyer Les Paul Copy, Hondo Bass(presision copy), Epiphone f-130 Acoustic EFFECTS-Zoom 707, Art ECC, TC Electronis sustainer/EQ, Morley Vol/dist/Wah, Ibanez Classic Metal, Aron Stereo Chorus, Aria compressor, Digitech RP-1000 Delay, Art SGX-LT processor, Morley ABY. See my review on some of these items.
The Zoom 707 seems like a really good unit for the money. The lead singer with the band is really impressed and claims I control my volume better with this pedal. One reason for this is the expression pedal that allows me to control volume, level of effects and even allows you to swith additional(preselected) effects in and out thats controlled by the pedal. Pretty neat. When used as a volume it works pretty well with volume swells. I have had problems getting the Pedal Wah working right. I will keep trying. The three knobs for editing perameters is a great feature allowing you to adjust a patch when playing and storing it immediatly and quickly. I'm not really worried about the plastic housing because I always Baby my equipment. Found a nice carry bag at Wal Marts that fits perfectly for $8.00 with pockets to hold my adapter and manual. I will prbably ubdate this review after a little usage. This unit was a gift and if I had been shopping for myself I would have probably rejecteded it because you can't bank up or down with the foot pedals. Since I already have it, I will put it to work and make the best out of it. I does have some very good advantages over the ECC with the expression pedal and additional effects. I know Boss has a REV/Delay pedal for $150.00. With this pedal you get reverb/delay probably as good plus all the other effects. This is a lot of features and good sound for your money, I'll give it 9 on that.
Something Else. I read a lot of the reviews in my spare time and the majority of them are written youngsters say 14-20 years old. I see a lot of cussing, fussing and many of them carry their units back the next day complaining they couldn't make it sound like so and so. Just want to share a little to help them see how well they have got it. When I got the guitar bug I was 15 and it was 1962. At this time the main effect was reverb. Most amps didn't have it. A Fender Deluxe with reverb and tremolo was a prise posession and none of my friends had one. Distortion was starting to be developed but to the general public unavailable and I didn't even know it existed until the Rollen Stones came out with, "I can't get no Satifaction". I started out with a Arch Top Harmony Acoustic Guitar provided by my parents. An electric guitar and amp was a distant dream. I eventually ordered some cheap pickups and mounted on my acoustic. My best friend had a cheap electric guitar and small amp. I would plug my acoustic into his amp when we would Jam. Most of the guitars on records were clean so you could basicly emulate what you heard with very basic equipment. Now the syk is the limit and new sounds and equipment are comming out every day. So when I read that you have been playing one year and have two electrics, an acoustic, two amps, a multitude of effects and the latest toy you want to throw away, I can't help thinking,"YOU DON'T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU'VE GOT IT AND ARE BLESSED OF GOD!!

I bought the thing before I heard a proper sound, but I saw the editing potential.
It took some time but I can manage the patches now. It is pretty straightforward. The manual is clear enough for me. Also the possibility of naming the patches is a good thing (I missed that on Rolands GR-30)

I use a simple Piggy together with my computer sound card plus home stereo (the latter giving the best sound configured for line out). The first sounds I heard in the shop were terrible! But I saw potential after studying the knobs and the manual, so I bought it. One patch I made is like Jan Akkerman. Modulation is the best part of the unit.
Wheb you really want a good sound, you have to eliminate the distortion module in most cases.

I love it. It's great fun to play the box placed on the table with a headphone connected and practise with the rythmbox on.
The presence of a ring modulator took me back many years when I built one myself. It is also good with a mike and the Pitch shifter.
Lots of fun. But very bad distortion module. The pedal is not good, when you want a wah, buy something else.

I've been playing acoustic for a while, and just recently started investing in an electric setup, I bought a cheap electric a small Fender 15R, and a GFX-707. When I had this setup, I thought that the zoom sounded great. However, I recently upgraded my amp to a Crate GFX120. This amp sounds awesome using only its onboard FX and distortion. When I add the Zoom it really craps up my sound. It seems to weaken my signal and cut out the tops and bottoms of my highs and lows, making the sound indistinct and boring. I can't believe that some people gave it such great ratings when they have really good set-ups. I think that this pedal is really good for beginners, but unless you plan on being a beginner for a really long time, don't waste your money on it. I plan on selling it ASAP and buying a Bud-Wah for some real sound.

I have a marshall JTM60 with the matching speaker cab. 4/12's all together. A les paul & ibanez jem for my guitars. This unit is very quiet. The effects are very good. I have had in the past a peavy max100 a digitech rp3 rp7 and a rp5. tried out a boss gt3 and it was way to noisy. boss makes nice stuff butt to much money for not that big of a differance in sound. I even like the zoom distortion better !! run a 7 band EQ. stomp box with this unit and you will have to tape down all the dishes in the kitchen !! the sustain was even better than the boss. butt like every thing else no two things sound the same. If you find a good marriage bettween your guitar your amp and a processer keep it !! this is a nice little unit and dont let the size fool you, it rocks

If this were stolen or lost i would get another one the next day !! the only thing that might bother you is the display. It is not super bright. But most of the time if you play in a band your inside at night and its fine then. I usually get something and then sell it in a couple of months. But this i think I'll keep............for now.

If you've played around with multi-FX units before, you'll find this
quite easy to use. I find it anoying though, the way the values of
the parameters jump back and forth when you change a previous value.
Why can't they use rotating digital knobs without a fixed start and
end position.

I was really excited when I got mine, which quickly turned to great disappointment. The modulation effects and reverb is OK, but the distortion is a joke. Where's the guitar-tone? I swear, if I connected this effect to my old D-5 Roland Synth, it would sound the
same as my guitar. With distorted patches that is. Considering that
my most important tone is the distorted one, the rating sufffers.

After using a ZOOM Fire I found the GFX-707 took a little time to edit patches. This is only my 2nd effects processor and I think it is pretty stright forward. The manual is good but needed to set up patches. I also really like the knobs for tweaking things. On the down side, I don't see any easy way to start and stop the rhythms without pushing a small button. It would of been great to be able to assign the pedel to rhythm volume.

I must say that I have only had the GFX-707 a few days.I got this to use with a Washburn acoustic guitar only. I plug it into a Peavey acoustic 100watt amp. I like the chorus and reverb effects very much. Been playing with the pitch shifter and I have found the the GFX-707 to be a lot of fun. Because I play only an acoustic I can't comment on distortion and some of the 'electric' effects others might like. I have found the rhythm patterns (PCM not sampled) to be a lot of fun also. (my family is getting tired of them) I play at a coffee house and will use drums next time I play. Switching from patch to patch is VERY quiet and the pedel works well with patches also.
