The unit is very easy to use. I am using this for an elec. guitar. Have been playing for years now but I never used any efx except for a fuzz box. So for me to say this is easy to use it must be.

The manual has extensive and easy directions on units use.
patch editing is simple.
saving patches are even simpler(one button touch).
two foot switches let you switch patches quickly.

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is very good. I use my fat strat w/ this. however the acoustic simulators are fair if that.
I have heard better simmulators than this but than again those boxes were alot more expensive than this one.

I set up six patches in a row to play "ten years gone" and I have to say it sounded almost exactly like the CD when I played the song.

Reliability : No Opinion
DONT KNOW YET I JUST BOUGHT THE UNIT TWO DAYS AGO.

For the money I dont think your going to find anything better. Zoom did a good job with this one.

Had to work at getting the appropriate sound as the factory presets were not very warm, most patches produced tinny sounds. Read the instructions many times but once well understood, would know it for life, like riding a bike. Editing the patches were relatively easy with just four buttons. The manual was translated from Japanese, therefore, the English was difficult to understand. But at lease it was an improvement from the 9002Pro manual.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using a Korean made Ovation copy which, on its own produces horribly high responses, which contributed to the tinny reproduction on my Marshall 100W combo (which was actually made for electric guitars). Because of space inhibition I am not able to have another amp for my Ovation copy, so I used the other available channel on the Marshall. With the EQ on the 504, I was able to trim the highs and boost the lows to create a more rounded balance so that it sounds more like an original Ovation would on an electric guitar amp. It worked well to create the warm sounds that I craved for so long.
However the settings that was so right had a noisy hiss from the amp's speakers. (Anyone to help me out here?)

Reliability : 9
All I know is that Zoom produces small and cheap wonders, I also own a 9002Pro and a 505. No problem with it as it is quite sturdy for a gadget made of reinforced plastic. No need for any backup except for batteries as it drains them real fast. Had to use AC adapter.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed them.

I play mostly in church environment where we always push decency to its limits. Mostly contemporary rock styles but rhythmically very heavily dependant on guitars. The 504 suits me fine, delivering what's in my head to reality.
Been playing for 20 years now and it took me some time to find out that Zoom Corp came out with a small wonder as excellent as this. I honestly feel that there can be no replacement for a 504 other than another 504.
My favorite feature has to be the mute mode where you can tune your guitar without ever to cut the master on the amp. Another favorite feature has to be the fact that it is built a stomp box where you can switch patches during a gig without ever to miss a beat. Used a PX3 once, but sold it off because it's a tweek box.

This is the best "little" box i have heard.
The effects it has are clean and very subtle.
Great for a beginer as well it has that professional sound
<PRAISE GOD>

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a DEAN exotica acousticdirect into a pa.
I'm a worship leader for a small new non-denominational
church, and the delay and reverb are a perfect mix
and the air and other special features give the most natural
sound i have been yet to obtain this is a god send.

Reliability : 10
Never had any problums with it.
Would never use a backup.
NO NEED to stomp on it. I've killed many effects by over rambunctous
immature playing , before JESUS CHRIST saved me

The LORD has blessed me with never needing to contact the company.

I play for the LORD JESUS CHRIST (the only way to heaven)
and this "little" box gives me just that extra bit of feeling to make that guitar sing.
To obtain his presense and glorify him forever.
Just remember that JESUS loves and died for you so that you could have eternal life - read john 3:16 it is true

This pedal is really easy to use and has a very clear manual.

Sound Quality : 10
My Band BLUSH uses the pedal for vocals. We have an excellent female vocalist who has the most beautifull voice but every voice effects pedal we have used either gives and bad his or makes her voice sound muddy. After trying 5 different voice effect pedals we decided to use our guitarist pedal (504 Zoom). We love it, it has a clean natural sound. We have the patches programed for almost every song and she can even switch patches during the song. For vocals all the effects sound good but you have to use them selectively and try not to get to crazy with it otherwise you will run into some pretty funky sounds.

Reliability : 10
BLUSH has rehursal for three hours twice a week and plays gigs almost every weekend. We have used the pedal for over a year now and after all this use the pedal has held up just fine (take into consideration that our singer is not jumping up and down on it). One thing I deffinately recomend is that you familarize yourself and understand everything the pedal does because if you are on stage and you do somthing to mess it up and don't know what you did it can be very times taking and frustrating getting it back the way it was.

Customer Support : 10
We have not dealt with the company. However, I did loose the manual and easily downloaded another off there website.

Overall Rating : 10
BLUSH plays origional music that ranges from a Dave Mathews sound all the way to Garbage. The great thing about the 504 Zoom is that it can occomodate the band with any sound we want and can be plugged right into any P.A. It lacks in delay capablitiies but the 505 electric guitar Zoom does a great job with that. BLUSH has even used it in the recording studio. Our sound engineer thought we were crazy wanting to use it but after he heard what a great sound it had he was very impressed. If anyone wants to know more about using the Zoom as a vocal effects pedal let me know I'd be happy to talk.

Very Easy to use. Doesn't take much to learn how to create your own effects. The manual was more than enough to learn how to use this pedal. its not too involved.

Sound Quality : 9
i am playing an epiphone chet atkins sst through the zoom acoustic then into my fender acoustisonic sfx acoustic amp. Its not noisy at all. most of the effects are a little fake sounding but after editing the patches (which is very easy) i have come up with a great acoustic patch. i play mostly dave matthews covers and it works perfectly for that sound.

Reliability : 8
i don't think this pedal is flimsy at all. yeah its plastic but its not the type of pedal you would use if you are jumping around on stage stomping on the thing. i think its very reliable and i have no fear of it breaking from stepping on it too hard.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
i play with a lot of muting and basically rhythm guitar. if i had it stolen or lost it i wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. when i plug straight into my amp i don't get that great a sound its very thin and there its hard to get a clean acoustic sound. the zoom effects pedal cleans everything up and gives me a great pure acoustic sound. for the price you can't expect much better than this pedal. i tried the boss acoustic pedal and it doesn't even come close to comparing. great pedal

This little pedal has a great sound coming out of it immediately. I remember my excitement when i first bought it, and it's still there today. I don't use it as much, because it does take away some of the natural acoustic sounds, but when i get bored of the same sound, this this is a welcome change of pace. The manual is horrible. It would be a little better in book form, but it is just much too technical for someone who just wants a good sound. Changing the presets has also been of mild difficulty for me

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Charvel A/E guitar and an A.R. Acoustic Amp 65 when i use this acoustically. It is one of the most wonderful sound combinations I've ever heard. The effects are always clean, and there is a wonderful selection of them. No real need to change them. I like playing a few Dave Matthews songs through this, sounds very similar.

Reliability : 7
I would be very careful if i took this to a gig. The plastic shell makes me a bit nervous, esp. with how much these cost, and I definitely wouldn't want to lose it. I've had it for about half a year now, and no problems so far.

Overall Rating : 9
Before i bought it, I borrowed a friend of a friends pedal. I feel in love with it immediately. I could have gotten it for almost half the price, but I wanted it now. It fits almost any acoustic sound wonderful. I esp. like the A3 gut setting. It's terrific for the low end soloing. The few things i don't like about this: When I first bought it, I used headphones with it. An absolute beautiful sound I don't think can be recreated, but it took me no less than a half an hour to go through a batter. It would be better if it appeared more dependable. (i.e. metal instead of plastic case) If it was broken, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one.

Quite easy to use right out of the box. I havn't tried to edit any of the patches yet because I like all the acoustic presets. But it seems from reading the manual that editing isn't too difficult. The manual is a little thin.

Sound Quality : 9
I run an Ovation Elite Standard A/E throught the 504 into a P.A. system, and get a GREAT sound. I don't experience too much noise, certainly less than if I ran the guitar straight into the mixer. Love the "A2" setting -- a great sound. I haven't used the presets that model acoustic from an electric because I don't need to.

Reliability : 9
So far no problems. I do use it without a backup. It's a simple "pedal" so not much can go wrong with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No dealings with the company.

Overall Rating : 9
I play rock, mostly '70's and '80's. The 504 works great for my acoustical work, both strumming and fingerpicking. Stairway sounds great on "A2". Been playing for 30 years. Would probably buy another one. By far, the ease of use and preset "A2" are my favorite features. I chose this unit after comparing it to other "pedals" designed for acoustic instruments -- it seemed to offer what I needed at a good price.

Yes, the "manual" should be re-done by a musician, not a technician, and yes, it eats batteries for breakfast. Radio Shack sells a 9 volt/ 300ma power supply that works quite well. I do recommend reading the "manual", as jumbled as it is, there are actually some good tips which you will stumble across. You may never actually need to change the presets. There are 24 very diverse settings.

Sound Quality : 9
I play a Superior Hawaiian Lap Steel thru my 504. I found most of the preset patches to be very well done, although the sound level coming out of the unit varies from patch to patch for some reason. Has anyone else run into trouble not having enough output level to drive a mixing board? My band says I should get an external preamp to go with this box. Would appreciate any feedback on this point. Sound is clean. Would have loved to have a vintage tremelo effect built into this box - would have rounded it out nicely. The output volume can be adjusted in a weird sort of way.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to say. A metal case would have been better than plastic, but it seems sturdy enough.

Can't find Zoom on the web. (Zoom, if you read this, write me please!)

I play Hawaiian, bluegrass, and some country. It works well for me. I have been playing a couple years with the Voggy Mountain Ramblers in Kailua-Kona.
