Very easy to use. You can get your sound in less than 45 seconds. During a gig, you can edit patches right away if you want some adjustments. I haven't read the manual yet (you don't need to).

I love the Extreme Distortion. Very powerful even at a low gain. What I noticed is when you switch between two patches of different banks (eg. A9 - B0), the volume will exeed the set volume of the patch.

It is a must for a metalhead starter. Well, I've been playing for 10 years. If don't have money I would buy it again. If I have money, I would buy a bunch of stompboxes plus zoom g1x.

Like they're all sayin', Zoom's setup is pretty simple and it's more about playing than about trying to learn how to run the damn unit. I'm legally blind and never looked in the manual and learned this beast top to bottom in probably about an hour. So, if a blind guy can do it, you can!! :) The knobs and footswitches are sturdy even for plastic, and I've gigged with this a few times and it's never a hastle to dial in good tones or call up presets.

The effects and amp simulation in the Zoom G1X are realistic. I mostly baught this pedal for flanger, distortions, and for getting good tone fast. One thing that's always floored me about Zoom is they can make a better sounding digital distortion (or a bunch of them) for half the price of Boss or Digitech's multi-effect units. This pedal is for all styles of music, but Zoom has always been on the more rock/metal side. There's some really insane grinding gain on board here, and with the EQ and effects you can really go crazy. The Peavey 6505 amp model is almost identical to the real thing with stock tubes. Since I'm a metalhead, I like having a pedal that can deliver more gain than I really need. the effects are pretty sweet; I love being able to adjust everything from modulation to intensity with only two knobs! The foot pedal comes in handy for speeding up chorus or gain, or even the old standard wah. Oh, and yeah the wah is a bit lacking. It's usable and nobody probably will notice at the gig, but I personally use a separate stompbox wah anyways. Overall, this pedal sounds killer for the cash. I'm using an Epiphone guitar with stock humbuckers through a bunch of different amps (Pignose Portable, Crate V5, some other solid-state Crate, Peavey VK112, Line Six Spider Valve, Ibanez Tone Blaster 212). I'm able to get nice sounds out of all of them with minor tweaking.

I've used this around the campfire, clubs, quite often. Make sure you get the adaptor or have Litheum batteries! No I wouldn't but they're so cheap you could buy another if it does break.

This is a great buy for the money. Make sure you get that adaptor. they go for 20bucks or more individually. I love its simplicity. I wish the jacks on the unit were the metal ratchet type found in Boss etc. If it was stolen, I'd buy another.
I ended up selling it along with other stuff because I'm going to get a G9.2TT soon. Real tubes, and if the G1X is great, then the G9 will burn down the house! If you want a great multi effects box for cheap but want good sound, the G1X is it.

I agree with the last poster, I hate multi-efx with a 300 page manual. Zoom has always been the easiest, although limited multi-efx to tweak. I have owned the famous 505II and the GFX-1 and the G1X is even EASIER to tweak than they were. I mean, if you can't tweak this, you better stay away from those units with the huge manuals. Read the manual and you will not have any troubles at all.

I use this pedal with several amps and guitars and it sounds great. My amps are a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Fender Blues Jr., Marshall DSL401, and Epiphone Valve Jr. head into a 1 X 12 cab with an Eminence 125 speaker. My guitars are a Fender American Telecaster, Fender American Stratocaster HSH, Gibson Faded SG, Gibson Les Paul Studio, and Epiphone Casino. I play in a Classic Rock band, the Tele and the HRD are my main instuments. For what I do this pedal is very good, although I use very basic tones. I use a very warm clean tone with reverb for a few songs, I use other warm clean tones with a little chorus, another with tremelo for songs like Riders on the Storm by the Doors, or Run Through the Jungle by CCR. I actually like the tremelo on the G1X which is rare. I have an old 1958 Premier amp with tremelo to die for, so everything else comes up short, but this tremelo is pretty darn good, very usuable. I use some distortions, I use the OD model with about 1/2 gain for a good Blues type tone, I use the MS (Marshall 1959) tone for a very 70's crunch tone, and the PV (Peavey 5150) for a little higher gain stuff. I usually dial in a lot of Mids (12-18) for those classic 70s tones, and keep Bass usually around -4 to 5 (-18 to 18 decibels), I will usually have Highs around 7-10. But the G1X has great distortions, I have always liked Zoom better than other brands like Digitech and Boss. Just my personal opinion, but I have owned my famous brands and still prefer Zoom in this area.
The effects on the G1X are good, although I really do not use many effects, just not my thing. So, maybe read other reviews on the effects.
The best thing to me about the G1X, and a big improvement over the other models I've owned is the 3 band EQ. In the past this was always a problem with Zoom pedals, you had to pick a preset, which was very difficult to get a truly great tone. Not anymore, now you can dial in Lows, Mids, and Highs, just like your amp. These controls are very responsive, I like them more than my amps tone controls. In fact, I have been bypassing my amp's tone stack by going straight into the Effects Loop Return on my amps, and using the Zoom's tone controls only. I can really dial in some great tones that are super tight, no bloating Lows, no hissing or piercing Highs, and no nasal Mids. If you've never tried this, give it a shot, you can get some great tones. So this is my favorite new feature on this pedal.
Not a big fan of the footpedal, it is small and movement is very limited. I wish it had a bigger sweep. I really don't use it much.
Never found those perfect tones yet, but I'm getting excellent tones out of the G1X.

Well, I owned this unit 10 months now and so far no problems. Should last a couple of years at least. My 505II still works pretty good, although I had a problem with my GFX-1, the "store" button pushed in and wouldn't come back out. Took it apart and it was plastic and broken, tried to fix it with hot glue. I might try again.

Been playing over 35 years, owned all sorts of pedals and effects. For the price the G1X is excellent, if you use your ears you can get some great tones out of it. And it is super easy to use. If it were lost or stolen I would probably get the G1 without the footpedal, as I don't really this feature.
As I wrote before, the 3 band EQ is my favorite feature. I always loved Zooms sounds but EQing was so difficult I used to turn it off and use an EQ pedal after it. But now you can really tweak the tones and the controls are very responsive. Way to go Zoom!!
So, if you want a pedal with great sounds and easy to tweak, it's worth the money easy.

Ah, a nice easy to operate multiFX pedal that doesn't have the size of a truck! Sound are pretty nice too, I was a bit surprised to notices the overall quality of sounds produced by the Zoom G1X. Very easy to edit or create your own sounds. Manual is very good (can be found online as a PDF), all funstions are nicely explained and there is a nice web page with additional patches made by zoom G1/G1X users which has some very good patches (http://www.haax.se/manualsite/index.php?unit=G1)
The eXpression pedal range is a bit limited, but not bad.
I must add that I really hate multi EF unitss that have a 300 page manual and can do everything in theory, but once you start out you get fustrated. Nothing like this with the G1(X)
And other thing is perhaps the fact that some buttons are too small to be operated by foot, as this unit is intended to be.

I have used the Zoom G1X with my old EKO solid state practice amp and with a "64 Fender Tremolus with a closed 2x12" cabinet. I used it with Fender Jazzmasters, Tele's, Strat's, my modded Epi SG Jr. and even a Fender Jaguar. Again I was surprised that the character of each guitar was still there and the same for the amp. I did not mix the Zoom with other stomp boxes yet, but it didn't worked to well with the onboard tremolo/vibrato on the Tremolus, signal got interfeared. But apart from that, using just the factory settings it was like switching amps with just a step up. Distorted/overdriven and fuzzed sounds are nice and pretty realistic when compared to the real thing. The Fuzz Face Patch even "starves" as does the real unit. This probaly has to do with the 24/36Bit rate resulting in this sound. Some FX seam to have a highervolume then others, but since each patch can have it's volume altered, it's easely dealth with. The reverb and wah is pretty weak, but still not bad at all. Amp simulations are nice as well and useable to edit the sound.
The factory patches heve some great tones, I really like the Acoustic simulator a lot. I'm not that into getting that "artist" sound, but I did test a few out and they were close.
But for the price, I can't compain at all
Although some factory settings could have been better, as for instance the "65 Twin reverb. (I got the real thing as well and here the zoom really lacks)

It's a plastic box, so I won't throw it arround if I were you. But then again it isn't of lower quality then for instance the good 'ol Line 6 Pod (which is also plastic) But all the controls seam sturdy. I just woul not kick it arround as you would with you average Boss pedal.
I didn't buy this unit to gig with, so that's not an issue for me.

I play a lot of styles and own some really good gigging gear, which has proved to last. I got the Zoom G1X because I wanted something with some basic FX and a headphones out for some late night guitar playing and it seams to do this just perfect, even better to be honestly as it works with my amps as well. Which is a bonus for me.
I'm playing guitar for about 2 decades now, so I think I kind of know when something is a good deal an the Zoom G1(X) is. Don't let newbies who hardly can play a chord say otherwise. I'm not dissin new players, don't get me wrong, but a multi FX pedal may "cramp" your style and gets you unfocused on actual playing guitar.
But believe me. I paid more for a crappy DS box some 18 years ago then what I paid for the Zoom, So I just can't complain at all. This pedal is aimed for easy practising and some jammin. No fancy PC outputs, no overengineering. It sound good on most amps and works with every guitar I tried ir with. Can't say this aout a lot more expensive stuff. Sure, there are sounds that could be better, but hey, look at the price.... Read the manual and have fun with it!
I don't think it can get any easier to get a good sound from it!

Although this pedal is geared toward classic and/or hard rock (metal), you can get pretty much any sound you want regardless of genre. I'm more into funk, R&B, soul, and hip-hop with a little blues and the aformentioned RnR. I'm just a hobbyist who has been messing around on guitar/bass (see Rondo!) for about a year. I also play keyboard and trombone.
There really isn't anything I hate about this even if the controls are simplistic and require a manual to decipher at times. This maybe a good thing in my case as I don't plan on performing anytime soon. For the home, its great dialing in different sounds to meet certain requirements (funky, trippy, abrasive, disturbed, etc.)
I chose it because of the price, the amount of time I'd be dedicated to using it, and the capabilities this little gizmo has. I'd replace it if stolen because its not too expensive and it offers a wide variety of sounds even for my taste.

I like the distortion effect on this unit, makes for perfect metal sounds. The wah is not too good. It has 40 presets ranging from Kirk Hammett to Kurt Cobain. I mainly use my own settings on the sounds I prefer. Reverb and Delay effect is very good.

This is an easy pedal to edit your own sounds and edit patches with once you do what every guy hates to - read the manual. I used to have a PodXT Live and it was a nightmare, and cost a pretty penny - I sold it on eBay and am glad I did, because the G1X for my use is every bit as good at a fraction of the cost and easier to use. The manual was quite sufficient for me.

I've been recording with it direct into my ZOOM MRS8, using a Boomerang as well. The sound quality is great - virtually no background hiss, noise, or anything else, and clean, smooth sounds. I can't find weaknesses in the effects - they're great. This thing itself can give me 5 seconds of delay - where else can you get that for the bucks?

I love everything about this pedal, and particularly what I got for the price. Line6, Boss, ...all the rest...step aside - the Zoom G1X is the one to beat for the investment, hands down. It lets me get the sound I want quickly and get back to playing - I'm a player -
not a brand poser who likes to talk about labels.
I'd like to share one more thing - GET ONE OF THESE - trust me, it's the best bang for the buck around ANYWHERE.

It's easy enough to operate once you've read the manual and played around with it for about 1/2 an hour. It is a little tricky, but then what digital equipment with this many options isn't?

This is where I was most surprised. This little pedal sounds surprisingly quite good. The controls offer a great degree of tweakability once you get used to them.
The $70.00 US I paid for this Zoom G1X pedal is more than worth the price just for the Reverb and Delay effects alone. The sound is very smooth, and there is none of that classic digital "Thunk" or "clunk" you get from Boss delay pedals.
I have owned a Boss DD 6 delay pedal for over a year and have grown beyond tired of the thunk noise every time I pick a note or chord. I got this Zoom pedal yesterday and played around with it for about 1/2 an hour and was truley amazed at the nice clean sounds I was able to coax out of it, with very little tweaking.
The first thing I noticed was the delay effects are surprisingly smooth and "thunk" free, unlike other brand name pedals that go for double the price of this one.
That makes me wonder, "How is it that Zoom can build a pedal with good sounding, "thunk" free delay for around $70 to $80 US, but Boss can't do it for $160.00? I don't know but I hope Zoom keeps up the good work.
The modulation effects are good, in fact, again, better sounding than the Boss pedals I bought seperately for around $100 to $200 apiece.
The Chorus modulation is smooth, and unlike other big name pedals I've used, doesn't overdo the amount of detune effect. This gives a smoother, better sounding chorus effect. Of course, you can tweak the parameters and get the overkill amount of detune if you like that. But you can tone down the detune, and that is the advantage I found with this pedal.
The Flanger is decent, and the Vibrato is very good.
What I like most about this pedal is the Reverb effects. They are VERY good sounding, and rival the Spring Reverb in my Fender Twin Reverb amp. I use this pedal through a Fender Band Master head and a Marshall 4x12 cab with 4 Eminence Swamp Thang speakers in it, and the reverbs sound excellent. My Boss DD 6 Delay pedal just got put on consigment sale at the Guitar Center. This pedal is well worth the price for the Reverb alone !!!
This pedal is the same as the Zoom G1, except it has a built in expression pedal and is a bit more tweakable. Read the reviews under the G1, they are all positive. Everyone seems to love this pedal.

Don't know yet, but I don't abuse my pedals so it should last a while. At $70.00 replacement cost, I'm not too worried. If it takes the wear and tear for a year, I got my moneys worth out of it.
If you don't gig with it and treat it nicely, it should last quite a while.

This is a surprisingly good sounding pedal, especially for the price. But even beyond the affordable price, this pedal sounds considerably better than the Boss pedals I now regret buying.
(I do not understand why so many people think Boss pedals are so good, they sound like crap. Like I said earlier, "If Zoom can build a decent sounding digital delay effect that is all but "thunk & clunk" free for $79.00, why can't Boss build a better sounding delay for the $160 cost of their DD 6 ?)
You owe it to yourself to at least TRY this pedal out in a music store. Compare it side to side with other (Boss) pedals and you'll hear the difference. If you are like most aspiring musicians I've met who are strapped for cash, you probably can't afford to shell out double the price for a pedal that doesn't sound as good as this one.
