Easy to use if you have had zoom products before. Could be hard if your not fimilar with zoom's train of thought. I have had it for a month used it right out of the box. Only have to refer to the manual to use the USB or change patch name. Other than that you can figure it out quick by just being a button pusher.

They have really improved on the distortion comparing it to the gfx-8. The effects are good but don't care much for the wah. I was blown away by the noise gate. It's the best I have ever used! High gain and high volumes are not an issue anymore with this thing. They also use a preamp tube they call the energizer. You can adjust the amount of tube signal you want. I don't know if i like it yet but I always play around with it to change the tone. The amp sim. works well when using the recording software that came with. The eq section is great, it allows you to see it as if it was a graphic eq pedal. There are so many option on this unit it could be hard to find a good tone until you get fimilar with it. As with all factory presets they always suck. Every thing the factories preset in there mulit pedals is always over the top. I hate when somone just uses the factory presets and gives a bad review on the product. Do some tweaking and use your ears and you can find some cool tones.
You can never replicate a marshall amp with out having a marshall amp. Some of the rep. of the amps sound close while others missed by a mile, but it still has great tone.
If I were to complian about anything is that it dosen't handle the Seymour Duncan live wire Metal (18v) active Humbucker very well, but niether does most multi processors.

Never had to deal with them. I have owned the gfx-8, and the 505 (BTW: the 505 was on the floor in a flooded basement for a week and still worked!) There products have never given me any problem to were I would have to contact them.

I have been playing guitar for 16 years now. Im not a tube freak or a digital all the way guy. I try new stuff, and if I like it I like it. I mostly play hard rock/Metal. I have used this with many different guitars and amps and im very happy with it. It's worth it's weight in gold. I have spent $330.00 before and have been disapointed so getting this turned out to be a good idea.

After spending some time with the manual it is not too hard to figure this unit out. There is quite a bit of capability that wasn't apparent to me at first. The preamp and effects section have their own edit knobs that activate the associated LCD screen. There are two preamps available per patch with one assigned as the default.
It is easy to get a good sound once you decide that a review of the manual is a good idea. I think the manual is well written. Overall it is easy to set this up for your application.

I've used the settings that are designed for plugging into the front of the amp as well as into the effects return/power amp in. Considering the capabilties of the preamp I think the best option is to either use this as a preamp into the effects return or into a unit like a Tech 21 Power Engine (like I use as an alternative/backup). I would use this into a guitar amp input as multieffects only with the preamp settings disengaged. In this case it would be into a Two Rock Onyx using a MIDI switcher to change channels. There is no effects loop in the G7.lut to allow for the "four cable method".
Sound quality overall is extremely good and the claimed transparency seems to hold up. The ZNR noise reduction is one of the better ones I've used on the high gain patches.

Kudos to Zoom for making the pedal out of metal and overall the switches and controls seem to be more solid than the competition. Altogether the unit seems to be fairly sturdy. It seems to be built to be reliable with the exception of the flimsy AC adapter. At least is is an inline transformer and not a wallwart.
As it stands right now this IS my backup/practice unit. I plan to set up one bank for direct to the board just in case I need it to get through a night in that mode.

I don't know on this. I have had one other ZOOM unit (GFX-4) and never had a problem. The website seems well done and only time will tell if I ever need service/support.

I play a good range of modern to classic rock and the G7 covers the ground very well. I've got 25 years + of playing/gigging and have an extensive gear collection.
I would likely replace this if stolen because I think it offers great value for the quality of the unit (both sound and construction). I really like the extensive EQ's and quality of the amp models. Too bad they didn't include a relay activated global bypass like they had on the GFX-4.
I have a TC Electronic G-System as my main effects unit, but if I had the G7 to start with, I might not have made that purchase.
