This pedal is pretty hard to use. Changing patches, volume, etc. is pretty easy, but if you want to tweak the patches at all, it will take a while. The display can only show six or seven characters, so everything is abbreviated and it is very difficult to tell what the abbreviations mean. Getting a good sound is very hard with this pedal, but most of the patches are decent sounding. The manual is pretty helpful, but it doesn't really cover everything that this pedal is capable of.

I have used this with several different setups. When used by itself, this pedal produces almost no noise, but when used with any other effects, noise and feedback are uncontrollable. Most of the distortion patches just sound sick, but the chorus, flanger, and delay are okay. There are several patches that produce interesting sounds, but they are not really usable in most music. This unit can recreate some Radiohead-like sounds, but for most types of music, it is sub-par.

This is the most fragile pedal I have ever seen. Within 6 months of getting it, without taking it out my house more than 3 times, the output jack broke. Now the sound periodically crackles and cuts out. The only way to keep the sound constant is to hold the output cable in with duct tape. I wouldn't trust this pedal for a gig

This pedal is an okay pedal for beginners, but if I use it, it is definately the weakest piece of equipment in my setup, and I play a Squier Strat. You should not buy this pedal and expect it to replace everything on your pedalboard. I think that you'd be better off with a Tubescreamer all in all. Email me and tell me what you think.

I use it with a Marshall 30w amp and Peavey (beginner sort of) guitar. I used to like it coz it was my first pedal but then I don't anymore because it's so noisy. I have only been playing for 2 years so don't take my word too seriously.
I think the delay is pretty good. Powerdrive sounds not too bad.The so called preamp is not good at all.
Wah wahs are crap. I don't think anyone would actually use it. The so called Pitch shifter is really really useless. Basically the pedal sucks. When you step to the top or bottom end, the sound goes totally off or goes really soft. That's the reason why I am going to get RP200.
But afterall it has a variety of sound. Before the RP series is out, this thing is pretty much value for money, but may be not anymore.....
The thing NOISY!!!!!!!!

I play rock most. Distortion is sort of good enough. If It was stolen or lost, I would go for the Rp as I have said.
I like the three parameter knobs but I hate the whammy/wah pedal.
I don't really use the jam along or the drum machine function but they are okay.
Of course it is not as sturdy as my boss distortion pedal.
I compared it with zoom505 and korg ax1g and pandora when I bought. The reasons were this thing is more vesatile compare to 505 and it looks more sturdy than korg one. (It also seems to me that more people use 707 instead of korg.)
If the pedal is not as crappy as it is, I don't think I will get rp200 but now i decided I will.

It is very easy to use. The knobs are great and turn easily and neatly. It takes a little practice to get some of the more complex editing down, but once you get the hang of it it is not hard to do.

This little thing has lots of great sounds. Certain effects are better than others, of course, but you definitley find a lot here. It isn't noisy and sounds great through headphones (which I use 90% of the time). It does have shortcomings, but I am still a newer player (about a year) and I am playing a cheap Fender Squier Strat, so I can't make much of a complaint about the sound quality being the problem of the pedal.

This is a great multi-effects pedal for a beginner like me. It is a little frustrating that a lot of the effects can't be used together and if you want that you definitely should get something else. But it is really fun for experimenting with different sounds and for having a lot of variety. I was debating about getting this or the Digitech RP200 or the Korg AX1G and went this this because it had evertything I was looking for and was easier to use. I like the drums too. It is kind of frustrating that you can't edit the factory presets because some of them just sound stupid, but it has 30 which you can edit and that is more than enough for me. Bottom line is if you know what you want to sound like you should probably just buy the individual pedals, but if you like to experiment and want variety this is a cheap and fun way to do it.

Once I got down to organizing my list of patches, I found the editing process quite easy, ie., dial in the patch, pick the target bank/sequence and store...wha-lah! The manual was easy to understand and explains all the functions well. I did have to read the manual first to figure out how to edit, therefore it isn't entirely intuitive.

I use a '79 stratocaster(heavy ash body w/lots of sustain) through a Marshall AVT50. The ZOOM noise reduction really seems to do the job even at high volume and gain. So far all effects have been consistent. I don't necessarily strive for a match of certain artists sound, I try more to get the best sound for my style and setup. I play SRV, Hendrix, Trower, ZZ Top, The Ventures... The patches I use most for my user list are: OLDVIB(The Ventures), DRVVIB(The Ventures), CRUNCH(Great deep blues sound!), L-LEAD(this is a great distortion/chorus/echo effect with much presence), CYCLE(phazer), STDCHO(chorus), HVYCOMP(compression). Of all the effects I really like CRUNCH best. It sounds great with a strat/marshall combo. It has a deep growl that I love. My amp has a great clean channel and the two compliment each other very well. I haven't put it to use yet but there is a wild heavy vibe Jeff Beck effect called BOOTS.
As far as weak effects, I really had to tweak the OLDVIB(vibrato) patch to get a brighter tone for Ventures songs. I have to turn the treble up on the amp to help. Also, there are too many undistinguishable distortion effects.

It hasn't let me down yet. Even though it is made of plastic it is of heavier gauge and a tight unit. As far as gigging without backup, I believe that you are always at rish without a backup no matter what the equipment is. That said, I'd say you'd run a lower risk with this unit as long as it isn't mistreated. I give this a 7 because I haven't had it for a long time(4 months?).

As already stated, I play mostly blues based music and The Ventures. I have been playing for 27 years. I also have an acoustic for playing around the campfire. If it were stolen, I'd probably shop and compare again just to see what's new before buying again. I love the compact size, the effects, the rhythm generator(sounds great!), and the tuner. When you think about it, it is pretty amazing all the functions you get in this compact little unit. There is nothing I hate about it. I also tried out Digitech 300, one of the higher end ZOOM processors, and a Korg. I chose the ZOOM GFX-707 for its features, quality and price. It has definitely helped me compose and create a rhythm when a drummer isn't available.

I'd just like to update my review on this, uh, crap. After awhile, the pedal started shutting off randomly. No, it wasn't the batteries. I finally decided to open it up and tighten some screws. This stopped the random shutting off, but the output jack problem(which someone else spoke of here), remained. The problem is especially noticeable when using headphones. The sound cuts off every now and then, and you have to kick it to get it back. This is a huge problem for me, because I can't quite afford stomp boxes. So, in other words: choose a different pedal.

Easy as pie. Tak eit out of the box and away you go. factory defaults are great as they are. the 30 user bank has soem pretty neat effects programmed in already. ive kept many of them. When it comes to creating your own effects it gets a little more tricky but after a read of the manual and a couple trial runs youll soon be able to create any sound your looking for, or near enough.

First id like to say that i only really use this for a practice pedal. why? cos its easy to carry around and saves setting up a million pedals just for a practice. It can create near enough any effect your looking for but you will have to compremise. I dont use it for live preformances cos you can only have 1 distortion and one modulation effect at a time eg. heavy overdrive with Chorus. you cant have overdrive, chorus and wah. which can limit you for a live gig. And if you try to daisy chain it with another pedal apart from a select few it sounds awfull! It sounds great with the digitech wammy ill give it credit for that. Whatever your style you can create an effect that will suite you. i think theres like 14 different distortions/overdrives which you can tweak anyway you want. I use this pedal with either my Danelectro or my Fender cyclone. It has loadsa modulation effects. all the standard chorus, flanger etc and others like a talk box, and wierd slowdown effects like when you turn the power off a record player. All these effects are fantastic, i have no complaints. APART FROM 1. the wah pedal is SHIIT! it doesnt have any kind of different settings. it does but you wouldnt really notice it. id only use this wah for a chicka chicka effect like Hendix uses palm muting it.
Artist sound u can create on this? well one preset on factory default is Van helen. this is a great sound i tell you. you can pretty much get close enough to any artist sound on this pedal. sometimes not perfect but close enough.

I would never gig with this. Its all plastic and on mine the output jack is funny and if you slightly knock it the sound cuts and you have to fiddle for a while to get it in the right place. Thsi would not do for a live gig. i cant remember being hard with the pedel once so thats pretty shitty. if it wasnt for this then id consider using it. otherwise no! ITS PLASTIC FOR GODS SAKE! ive got pedls built like a tank, dicast metal shells. but this thing mkes you scared to use it if you drob it or press the pedals down to hard. since this is a practice pedal for me im usually at home so i dont wear shoes while using it. GOOD IDEA! if u like wearing doc martins boots while playing this isnt the pedal for u! saying that theknobs are tooked away nicly

Ive been playing for 3 years now and this was the first pedal ive used. over the years ive replaced my guitar (several times), my amp, my style of music and bought loadsa individual stomp boxes to specialise in the certain fields of effects and i still use my ZOOM!
Every person i kno who is learning guitar i say buy this pedal. its fantastic for a newcomer. for 100 quid its the best money i ever spent. When you start out you dont want to be tied down to one or two types of effects cos you dont really kno what style of music you are going to end up warming too. this pedal is as diverse as rainforest. I agree with that when you get to kno what you really want then buy stompboxes etc to concentrate on the main sound you want as the zoom can be called shallow in a way. not too shallow. unless your a live performer who really needs a perfect sound to what hes looking for this pedal is fine. If it got lost or stolen now id still get a zoom multieffects pedal cos i think they are great. maybe not this model cos im more experienced now an di hve more money. Id get the GFX-8, but 1 or 2 yrs ago id still replace it.
Every new guitarist should have a multieffects pedal. if not this one than another. Saying that, even more experienced players could use this. I still do. but if your rich get the bigger zoom ones. they have the same features and more. tons more, plus they are made from metal instead of plastic.

It is easy to use when you get to know the thing because it is hard to work out at first. The posisioning of the controls are organised well but sometimes not that easy to get at.
The GFX 707 is very small and compact so it is easy to carry around but is not a very professional item if you gig a lot.
The manual is helpful and usually easy to understand when you have problems with it but you should work things out anyway.

I play through a USA Fender Strat and a Marshall G30RCD amp with the little Zoom. The effects are brilliant and there are plenty of them,
there are flange, distortion, chorus, and other wacky sounds you can choose from. The sound is exactly what you pick and it does not make any other bad noises.

I play any type of music and it matches it all, if it does not match yours for some reason, there is the option of making your own patches.
I have a couple guitars, a Marshall amp, two indavidual pedals I never use and the ZOOM GFX 707.
If I lost it or it was stolen I would look for an amplifier with effects and reverb (as my Marshall amp is shit in some ways)or I'd look for a different pedal with the same effects but a little bigger, BUT TO BUY ANOTHER GFX 707 IS EASER AND SAVES TIME.
I like almost everything about it except some controls such as the drum beat button are hard to get to.
It is cheap for the features it has because it has everything else.

The amp simulator is ok, and although distortion is not my favourite thing in this unit, a beginner can really find it useful. The flanger and chorus are high quality, in my opinion, but do not expect too much from the wah (i never plan to use it anyway). I just wish it had a bit more versatility when it comes to the effects. I've been using it to record things in my four-track machine and its very useful to do things at home, then maybe ask for/rent/buy/make/steal something better to go to the studio, but having recorded things with this at home on a tape will really save time when it comes to decide what kind of sound do you want on a certain song. The "drum machine" is ok if you want to do improvisation, practice things and stuff....
The sampler (????) is totally useless to me.

I think this is a useful tool both for professionals and beginners, almost something necessary, because you can get different sounds very easily, so even if its sound is not perfect its still a all-in-one, unexpensive effects box that will surely help you to "plan" things, and not having to get twenty individual pedals just to see how it sounds (but to record on a studio, choose the complicated).

I use a Fender Jagmaster guitar(two humbackers) and a Fender Deluxe 90, and I think it sounds great. The wha is ok, and the distortions need to be a little more versitlile but other than that, everything was perfect. My favorite sounding effect is the phaser. You can shape and mold it soooo well. The delays are very nice too. Almost all effects are controled by a foot pedal which is a nice touch.

Telecaster into Boss CS-3, RAT, and various other pedals. This is always the last pedal in the chain. Sound quality is great. I NEVER use the distortions or overdrives though. I hate zoom digital distortions. YUK! The proper effects though, like Vibe and Trem and the ring modulator and filter are excellent. Especially as it's so difficult to find good versions of these effects for little money. This pedal offers them all at an affordable price. They can be controlled really easily and sound really clear and excellent. Maybe some of the effects are a little too digital for my liking, but alot of them really are clear and proffesional. Would be 10, but the crappy distortions really are bad.

I play evil/sinister rock music and this pedal gives me all the odd factor that I need. I've set it up to give me one filter, four vibe, three tremolo, a couple of pitch shifter effects, and a bit of other fun things too. If it were stolen I might try and buy all the effects seperately but I'd have to be fairly rich and patient. I wish it had more user patches because there's so much more I want to do and no more space. It's handy, almost essential, to my sound. If I didn't have it, the music I make wouldn't sound anywhere near as interesting. If you're not an analog loyalist and want to expand your horizons, then pick this up and have a play. The sounds that come with the pedal itself are crappy. You have to play with the settings and everything to get the sound you want. I found this quite easy. The EQ was very useful to me. The noise reduction is very useful especially for that feedback noise I get a lot from my amp. I have an Ibanez GAX 70 with a 15W Crate Amp and I got very good sounds out of it. It's possible to get sounds from favorite artists. After fiddling with the knobs I got sounds from Metallica (my favorite band) as well as other bands. The expression pedal is okay I guess. The only bad thing about it is the range of the pedal. It's sensitive I guess. I adapted to it in less than an hour though. You just have to learn how to use the expression pedal. I give it a nine because of the expression pedal.

I've fiddled with other pedals before such as ibanez pedals and the Zoom 505. The GFX-707 trashes all of those. This was my first processor and when i first got it i had never tried an FX set before, but it wasn;t too hard. When contemplating buying this, ease of use probably wont mark it down.

i use this mainly with a crappy affinity squire strat and sumtimes with a yamaha electro-acoust. The sound can be thin in places for the distortion, and will take some tweaking to get smooth and right. The chorus/acoustic sounds are very good and my mate never shuts it about them. what pisses me off is when some of the same effects i want together are in the same section i.e chorus + flanger are both in the same mod sect and if i want some fuzz to beef up distortion i cant.
probably not the same as youd get with boss single pedals, but it aint boss, it aint single pedals, but then again it the price of them either.
Theb expression pedal is what puts this thing sky high against competiton.

I've used it for a year now and I'm pleased with it. It's not professional or anything. I recommend all you beginners or those who have played a while and want to have som cool effects to buy something like this. To bad I didn't buy something like this 5 years ago. It's great for practicing, composing new song etc, exploring sounds... It does sound ok when you record with it.
Well, I upgraded to an DG-Stomp wich I do think blows the gfx away but it is still a good pedal.

I use this processor with my Fender Strat and my Epiphone LP Special. I sometimes run it to my Peavey Classic 50 212 but mostly to a little solid state Marshall Park G30R-CD because I don't have to wait for the tubes to heat up. Also use it with headphones and Direct in to my PC. The 707 really sounds great for the money. I also have the POD and RP-200. I have owned the Zoom 505 but sold it because it sounded like crap. The 707 it a BIG improvement. The main reason I bought it was because I wanted a multi-effects box with a Wah that was battery operated for traveling. This unit fits the bill nicely. I can get awesome sounds from it. The wah is not the best because of the limited travel of the pedal but it is useable. I've seen worse.

Only had it a couple of weeks so I don't really know. I can say that the unit is plastic and I would be careful with it. So far I've gotten about 8 or 9 hours of use on the 1st set of batteries. Very pleased. I will give it a 7 here because of the plastic housing.

I just want to say something that I want to change from a ealerier review that I did. Don't get this crap!I gave it an overall rating of 9. Now I give it a 3. It's horrible once you store a patch somewhere you can get the old patch that you store on top of it back unless you do a wierd thing to it. Then if you do that you lose everything you did. It sucks and the effects are absolutely horrible. Do not get this at all!

I listen/play a lot prog. rock and metal(not the 'nu' crap). In my opinion,a few artists having good tones are Greg Howe,Yngwie Malmsteen,Blues Saraceno,Allan Holdsworth etc.
This unit doesn't even close to reproducing these tones but then again,I didn't expect much from such a cheap unit.It does however offer a lot of features and a beginner might find it useful.
I have a small FX processor which is in the same price bracket(Korg Pandora) and that totally blows this unit away in terms of sound quality.I really don't care too much for a million features.Just a few will do as long as they're good.(esp. the preamp)

When you play a note and let it ring for a while it starts to have a wierd sound(kind of like when the processor is trying to shut down.) Plug n Play. Very easy to edit exisiting patches with a nice analog (knob) control. This results in a quick edit of a few of the more obvious effects. To really refine a patch there is a deeper level of editing which is also fairly straight forward once you have done one or two edits.
The manual is pretty good. It doesn't detail settings for the preprogrammed patches but once you are editing them, you can figure it out and modify appropriately.
No way of upgrading the firmware.

Used with a Peavy Generation guitar (tele copy with strat style pickups) and a 50w tube Traynor amp.
No noise from this pedal at all even when the noise reduction circuit is almost off.
Some of the preprogrammed patches are not to my taste but the basic chorus, distortion, reverb, phase, wah, drums, are very good and infinitely editable. Distortion is a bit heavy - goes from off to medium rather than mild. Compared to the POD I had for awhile these sounds are a lot better. However the POD relaly is an amp simulator and that is where this pedal is weak. I would argue that the amp sounds are more of an eq/tone function.
Only sound quality complaint is on the half speed playback. It sounds like crap. Its really only useable when sampling a lead, using it to decipher any sort of fast arpeggio or rich track is impossible.

Have used it for 2 months with no issues. Its pretty reasonably built although I have my doubts about how the 2 foot pedal switches will hold up. They feel like a carbon based contact (ie not a mechanical based switch) and these have a habit of wearing out. If they wear out there are finger size buttons that accomplish the same thing but won't be too useful when plaing a gig.

Great first pedal. Great for practice with its sampler and drums. Tuner works better than POD I used to have. An infinite number of effects can be built so if you've got money for only one, this is a good buy. Compared to Digitech and Korg, with comparable features this unit costs a lot less and I don't see that anything has been sacrificed. I would buy another.
With the sampler and drums I think it makes you a better player through improving your practice sessions. I've been playing for 25 years and spent more time enjoying practice & composing than I ever have since I bought this.
Not a good amp simulator, or a slow playback sampler but for the $ I'm giving it a 9 due to its fanatastic bang for the buck.

Are you looking for a classic Hendrix tone, or maybe that powerfully brilliant Van Halen overdrive? Well LOOK ELSEWHERE. This pedal is $375 and with about the same number of effects as dollars this amp can get a lot of tones, but usually they are abstract versions of what a real pro would be looking for. However, if, like me, you are a punker who likes to experiment every now and then with a bit of wah-wah or delay, and you can't afford the fifty necessary pedals, then this pedal is for you. The experimental possibilities are endless. It also has an adjustment pedal which serves a different purpose for every effect (eg. wah-wah, volume).

Now that I've had it for a while (1 year) and have had the pleasure of trying more specialised pedals, I have come to realise that this pedal does not quite cut it for me anymore. I still enjoy using it, but I just don't really use it for recording or jamming as it is just not quite there. I use it through a Fender 15 watt practice amp, and through a Marshall VS-100. I found the VS-100 distortion far superior to any from the 707.

There is a small amount of noise when using it on some effects, but there is something they call Zoom noise reduction though, but still a small amount of fuzz on some effects. I mostly use the Wah Wah, delay, overdrive, distortion, flanger and a few other effects, that i use when writing, that are compositions of their own. I use a squier guitar with this and run through just a small amp, when i play at home. Most of the effects a good, but there are a few that i just wonder about why they put them in there, as they are just useless, and i hardly ever use them.

I only use this pedal at home, and wouldn't use it at gigs. For that i would use my boss pedals, as they are much simpler to use, and are more reliable, since the GFX-707's casing is just plastic. i think that this pedal is just for jamming aroud with at home, and not to be used at gigs. I would reccomend this pedal to any bedroom rocker, and garage band, although for those who gig a lot, don't use this on stage, or it's lifetime won't be that big.

I play blues and rock, although so far, i haven't been able to coax any bluesy sounds out of it. i haven't been able to compare this pedal to any other multi effects pedals, but i think it would be a good pedal for a beginner, bedroom rocker, or garage band.

This pedal is quite easily the easiest I've ever had to use. The patches are pre programed, so you don't have to edit them; very good if you want that 'Plug in and Play' factor. But this pedal is far from simple, each patch is fully customiseable, either by using the 'quick controls' to alter levels to effects like Gain, Reverb, Chorus and Vibrato. This is very handy, especially if you want to temporarilly edit a patch during a preformance very quickly. For those with very specific needs, it is possible to create patches from scratch. This is not simple, but with a little help from the manual it isn't too bad. The manual its self is pretty easy to understand, as it uses simple language rather than technical jargon. Some veteran guitarists may find themselves skipping through the basic functions to get to the more complicated features like the sampler function and the 'Jam Play' function.
Sound Quality
:

I've tried this pedal with many setups, from my small Fender Frontman 50w amp, using it to record with an AKAI digital 12 track recorder (using the line out function), using it with a Marshalls (Valvestate?) 100w combo amp, using it with a carlsbro (don't ask me what) 200w multi purpose amp, and finally with a Marshalls Valvestate 500w stack. The sound is always crystal clear and brilliant. The ZOOM NOISE REDUCTION means that feedback from high gain effects is virtually a thing of the past. The effects themselves are remarkably varied, from a 12 string acoustic simulator, to a bluesey style, from a highly destorted feedback generator, to an oldschool funk sound, this pedal has it all. No one guitarist could ever need all of these patches, so it's usually a good idea to customise your user definable patches so that you have all of your sounds together. An all round stunner.

This is very reliable, save for one great flaw: it eats batteries by the truckload. Definately one to use mains supply for, otherwise you could find yourself up the creek without a paddle. If you absolutely positively definately must have it powered by batteries, use a fresh set every time. This could cost alot in AA batteries, especially if you gig alot. It is, however reliable enough to use without a backup; just spare batteries :?)

Easy as breathing to use. Just step on the patches to select a track, step on both of them to turn the effect off. Really cool! The distorion setting range from the very good to the very muddy, so you may want to find another pedal for distorion (I recommend the Jeykal + Hyde. Read my review about it) or use the gain from your amp. However, the effects are just blinding! They sound cleaner and more powerful than any effects pedals i have ever used. THe wah may not be to everyones taste, but the footswitch can also act as a volume pedal.
Right now i run this thing though a practice amp. (I leave my main amp in teh studio when i play with my band), but it sounds really good. I've now sold off all my other pedals because of this thing. IT also has a built in drum machine. how cool is that?

I suppose it's pretty easy to use ...as digitally programmed devices go. The Zoom GFX707 has a great lit display and you can label patches for easy recognition! A great sounding but very simple rhythm unit. Lots of effects for a rather bargain price. I like the dials that allow you to modify your patches quickly in live situations. I switched to this unit from Korg's AX1-G which has has no rhythm unit and a display which is not lit. I got tired of bending over to see what effect was called up.

If you're into rocky distortion sounds, you've hit a garden full! Other stuff is nice too; I really like the chorus. I mostly run it through the church P.A. It has a setting for using it through a sound system but frankly, I can't notice any difference in the sound or performance regardless of which setting it's on. Handy adaptor/battery options for power and those AA size batteries are a fairly economical size compared with the little rectangular 9-volt jobs. The pitch function is a bummer when set to produce an octave below the guitar note. It's ok on high notes but look out if you go lower! It makes a beating/fluttering effect that ruins the octave stuff. Sounds like maybe that bottom note isn't quite in tune. Can't Zoom tweak that to make it useful? I'm starting to regret selling my Korg AX1-G. The effects were just as good and that octave effect *worked*!
It would have been nice to get a "pushed" tube sound or a milder distortion effect, but all the distortions are pretty hard sounding.
The AA batts get used up within 14 hours according to the manual, but I used NiCad rechargeables and they died within about 3 to 4 hours. I bought some of the new rechargeables made with NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) and they should last better I'm told. Review It's a pretty good deal generally. My disappointment is because the octave effect is one that I was looking forward to, and it seems to be the one that doesn't work very well. I'm still looking/watching for a fix for it.

Ease of use??? Well I sure expected something better. My 505 is much easier to use. Although in general terms it is good, I would expect an external expression pedal connector (the on-board is somewhat crappy), as well as bigger edit/store/sampler/etc buttons. Finally, the white knobs would be better if they rotated freely. Most of the times, you have to turn it all the way to the beginning and then readjust the value. On the other hand, you can get used to it pretty fast and is much more user friendly than the a Korg shit for example.

The sound quality is really great for such a low budget multieffect pedal. The noise reduction system does a really good job, without significatly affecting the overall sound - a must have in all distorsion effects! The amp simulator is pretty good (not as good as a POD though). I only wished that the guys at ZOOM had done a somewhat better job at making the DSP of the 707. The MOD effects group is not as good as expected and the distorsion could have been a bit better.

If you're looking for an under $200 multieffect pedal, The GFX-707 is one of the best out there. It is most suitable for group rehersals (the preamp can drive even a 20-30 W solid state amp to the limits) and for off-home practicing. The sound quality is good enough, in case you need it for a small gig or an amateurish recording (the amp simulator does a really good job when you're directly connected to a mixer). Just remember not to have too many effects at the same time, cause the sound becomes too crappy.

For some reason I didn't receive the manual with the unit which would have been helpful, but after a few hours of tinkering it soon became pretty clear how to use it. The combination of the buttons and knobs to alter aspects of the patches is pretty nifty and makes the thing easy to understand. I imagine it would be a useful item for a beginner cos you can pretty much just plug in and get experimenting.

I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul Studio along with a Marshall JCM900 half stack and to be honest some of the effects are letting the team down. The wah is quite good but some of the others such as the flange just seem lost in my setup. The std chorus on patch A3 is really good but there is a surplus of dodgy distortion sounds. Having said that, there are plenty of other patches which offer less common sounds (such as "Talk" and "60's") which, even with their factory settings, give you a great sound. It also has to be said that while the drum machine is very useful indeed, the sampler really is a piece of unmitigated crap.

Now we come to the less reedeming feature of the unit. I am very wary about putting too much of my weight on it whilst operating the pedal as it is of a reasonably light-weight construction. This doesn't stop me using it live but it is surely a concern you can do without in a gig situation. Also, the input area for the AC adaptor could do with being a bit more robust as I have occasionally lost power when the unit has moved while practising.

As a songwriter in a band I have found the unit very helpful in writing new material cos of the cool sounds you can create through it. As for other music I am into stuff like My Vitriol and REM and can certainly recreate some of their sounds through it. However I would have reservations about its durability and quality in the long-term. At the moment its a smart product and great value for (relatively little) money. But in later years it will need replacing with a more expensive, better quality FX pedal.

Here's where it gets good. I'm running an Ibanez Acoustic Amp (Troubadour TA25) and a Epi Les Paul Classic Ltd Edition. The LP was a late addition, prior to that I was only using 2 Ovations and playing through the acoustic amp. The Les Paul sounded pretty good thru that amp with it's fully adjustable chorus and reverb. But I wanted to play around with some distortion and FX (metal to jazz/blues). This 707 does a nice job of that. I'm very happy so far. It's the best of both worlds.

It sounds great through my high quality Sony headphones as well. The sound I get out of the Zoom in by-pass mode is nearly the exact sound I get out of my acoustic amp with no reverb or chorus. I'm hearing the Les Paul's "true" sound.
The Zoom and the Ibanez Acoustic Amp are great together. Not a bad combo for less than $350.

Setup: Yamaha 1511ms -> GFX-707 -> Award-Session Sessionette 75.
No noise - great humbuckers on guitar, good cables, remember to play around with the ZNR noise reduction level, it's like dolby, gets rid of the hiss, but muffles the sound a bit, so must be used in conjunction with the EQ.
Effects mainly useful, too many distortions which sound the same.
I don't try to emulate artists - too specific, remember there are millions of pedal/rack combinations which the real guitarists use, so I don't get hung up on trying to sound exactly like them.
I like the chorus, compression, delay, (hate digital reverb), Jam play is unusable.
REMEMBER, BEFORE YOU BLINDLY TRASH THIS UNIT - THE PRESET PATCHES NEED TO BE EDITED TO SUIT YOUR OWN SET UP

I would buy another one, it's so cheap and cheerful.
Loves and Hates? I love the wide range of sounds to experiment with, and hate the ill informed trashings given by some of the other reviewers, sorry guys but did you actually try to use it properly?
I didn't need to compare this with other units, this had the features and the price - enough said.

This rating would be a 9 or 10 if the manual wasn't so thin in certain areas. New patches are reasonably easy to put in. I use a single coil Japanese Strat. I play all kinds, mainly rock/punk rock/indie etc.. Do NOT buy this if you have a tube amp. It sounds way better with my mate's Peavey solid state (and the several other s. states I have used it with.) Mine is an Epiphone Electar Tube 30, and I am told it sounds pretty bad with Marshall Tubes also. I guess Zoom thought budget pedal=budget amp=solid state amp. However, it is still a great pedal that does for practising in my bedroom and jamming with mates occassionally. I like the distortion and wah, delay works fine. However, seperate pedals will do the jobs much better ie. if you just want this for its distortion, spend the same money on a dedicated distortion pedal. Noise reduction is EXCELLENT at ... mmm ... reducing noise ... when you put a lot of gain on the distortion. It can eliminate quitely picked notes alltogether if turned up high though, this doesn't bother me much. If you get a cheap AC/DC adapter, it will adcersely affect the sound. The default patches do not flatter the unit's capabilities. An excellent resource for 707 patches is at: http://venus.spaceports.com/~gfx707/
With a transistor amp, this rating would be a 9.

I'd buy it again. The price I paid included an AC/DC adaptor, which I reccommend you get as it eats batteries and the adaptor is only about #10 - that's not a lot of batteries - 4 are supposed to last 14 hours I think. Again, if you have a tube amp, don't buy one of these unless you have tried it with your amp and are happy with it. I don't gig and have only been playing 3 years, so this unit is ideally suited to me, I cannot justify spending a great deal on equipment. I truly beleive this is the best multi FX processor for what I paid. Another handy feature is the guitar tuner which can also be used for figuring out the chords in a tune if you plug your lead into your Hi-Fi. When in bypass mode, the expression pedal becomes a volume pedal which can be useful. The 707 can also boost the signal a lot and drive your amp harder.

There is the usually Zoom noise reduction available which is top, but i like it noisy so i turn that down. The effects can be pretty strong but not as much as separate pedals. I play hard rock and Grunge so i needed a fat dirty pedal and i also play soft jazz and blues. The pedal works with both styles well. This does the job of all effects except distortion. Its ok but not really fat enough for me. ive been playing for a few years or so now and have managed to get three guitars but my jaguar is my fav. The biggest ting i love about it is its compactabilty and it get rid of the need for millions of leads. The foot pedal is a little bit to sensitive so its kinda hard to adjust things like the pitch shifter properly. The Zoom 707 is good if you like a decent sound with no mess and cheap cost, if your mad into sounds go and buy individual pedals becuase this wont satisfy your needs. If you get it, i am recomending it, i would also perchase the biggest and meanist distion pedal the BIG MUFF with it.

You can get some fantastic sounds from it although I was disapointed with the distortions they sound very sharp even after a lot of equalisation but they are great for mettalers like metallica etc.
It is so easy to use it is the first effects unit I have OWNED but have played with many others.

I play my 707 through a Marshall vs8080 and an Epi Les paul Goldtop or a Fender standard strat.
This is a problem I have found playing any guitar or amp with this unit. You lose the sound of the guitar eg.
When playing with Humbuckers I look for a fat rich crunch when in distortion but I don't get that sound when combining my effects to my amp.
To solve this problem I turned off the Zooms distortion and used the distortion on my amp. As with all effects units there are good and bad effects the chorus flanger phasers and acoustic sims are all great and I have used them all on my bands last demo cd. Also the WAH WAH is excellent and you can program it to sound exactly the same as any pedal (I use jim dunlop cry baby)
You really can sound like anyone with this pedal but it is best for metallica etc.

In my band I play indie and rock but at home when jamming I play alot of lead led zeppelin etc.
I have been playing for nearly 3 years but am very experienced as a session guitarist at the age of 14. I have played many pedals guitars and amps and my equipment is great considering I have payed less than #1000 ($1500) for it all. The 707 has done me so far but I'am upgrading my effects to boss single pedals.
But overall For under 200 bucks this thing kicks ass for live in a band or just chilling in your room.

I use it with a Squire Strat and a Squire practice amp. It is noisey on a few settings that dont use the Zoom Noise Reduction. This model is hard to understand for those who are new to processors. The instructions seemed to pretty vauge as if written by some geek without consideration for new folks such as my self. With a little tinkering and some help with my freinds, I was albe to know my way around it.

I play my BC Rich Platnium Warlock and Peavey Bandit 112 with this doo-hickey. The VanHalen patch was able to give me a nice tight speed metal tone such as Overkill, old Metallica and Slayer. Most of the other patches are fun to play around but nothing I would use while performing. The rythm sampler might make a useful metronome but the other settings seem completly useless compared to a drum machine. I havent tried recording it but I doubt only have a space for six seconds would be useful with other means of recording available.
Despite some of the drawbacks, I was able to come up with some nice tones both for performing and playing around.

This is a nice processor for the budget musican. If your new to fx processors, you might want someone with more expirence to help you in using it. Many of the patches sound odd or useless but with some tinkering around, there can be some tones to stick around with. The rythm sampler is a great metronome but not a drum machine.
Overall, I like this processor.

Getting about and around on this little bugger is very simple. 2 buttons (patch up and patch down) and expression pedal. Fixing new patches is quite simple, unless you are a complete newbie to effects and have no idea where to start. The manual can be a hell lot better (My job is writing manuals, and this one stinks) for beginners. But its so simple to use you just plug it in and play. The rhythm section is ok, but you have to stoop down to switch it on. 7/10 is quite good however.

You can get good sounds out of this pedal quite easily. I think it can't get any simpler. Editing Patches is easy if you read the manual for about an hour (and the manual is good). The only problem is that if you screw up storing a patch on top of another one, you just have to start all over again. That's why I'll only give it a 7. But it's simple to work with...

I use a Washburn N2 > GFX-707 - Crate G160XL. There is almost no noise at all and that's a good feature. I believe it's because of the ZNR (Zoom Noise Reduction). What a good job they did here...
Well, the effects are not that good to start with, you have to edit your own patches if you really want to "like" them. Although some are quite good (20% of them). With a little work you can get the sound of many artists, I guess. But I'm not a sound expert, so I don't really know if I get that or not. Some of the patches (presets) that I like are the Van Halen, Pop, Lead, Detune, Overdrive, Violin... like I said , some are quite good. The rest is pure manure folks. But hey it's a cheap pedal, so you really have to make it sound like you want. It doesn't come all prepared for your taste, right?

I play all kind of music for about 6 years and this pedal helps me a lot. I can record directly to the machine with this (without using the amp), which is good!! I don't have any other gear for the guitar. I don't think I need it yet. For beginners, this is a great pedal. And editing may seem boring, but it helps you develop a certain knowledge about this kind of stuff. If it was stolen, I'd probably save to buy a GFX-8 or a Boss GT-3, because I would want to move forward. I guess we could store the patches in a different way, because it somehow gets confusing, but that's the only flaw. Believe me, this is great pedal for starters. You'll go crazy if this is your first pedal. Just try it in a store... and for the price, it's awesome. But of course, if you are a serious musician, then buy a better and more expensive one, because this is not the pedal you want.

The pedal is easy enough to play around with if you are happy with the preset patches. The manual takes a bit of following to understand how to edit anything - which is a waste of time. I found any of the settings took ages to edit and the sounds usually came across "over-edited" no matter how subtly you set the fx.
Sound Quality
:

I play an ESP guitar with a Laney LC30 valve amp. I had a small Marshall practice amp before and found the fx gave me easy access to a range of sounds for practicing, but since I got the Laney it just doesn't compare. The distortions on the pedal are all very muddy and lacking harmonic content and the reverb lacks any atmosphere. I thought the chorus was the best effect and the drum settings are fun and usefull as a glorified metronome. The wah is pitiful (i am awaiting delivery of a Morley this moment) but the expression pedal has its use as a volume pedal. I've had this pedal for over a year and a half and was a beginner at the time, not exactly a conisseur of tone but just happy if it had six strings and a Floyd. i am now a much better player (classic rock/metal mainly) and am aware that my pedal isn't even close to giving me the tone I crave.

Well, i've had the pedal for over 1 1/2 years and it's still going after daily usage as if it were brand new, so I can't complain. I do tread lightly on it however if i'm wearing my boots as the plastic doesn't seem indistructable. I wouldn't use it live as i would probably stomp on it in the middle of a rockin song.

As i said, I play classic rock and it just ain't working. I play straight into my Laney now and it is phenomenal, and i'm contemplating buying a few stompboxes like a BOSS compressor and delay as they give more versatility and are easier to adjust. I tried recording myself a few times for my music course and it was when I played it back that I realised how terrible it made me sound. If it got stolen i wouldn't buy another but i would be more upset that I didn't have it to pawn off to some beginner for 50 bucks. For a beginner it is usefull for exploring different sounds and fun but if you are any way serious about playing guitar save yourself the money and buy a decent all-valve amp, they have all the legendary tones you could want.

Its not hard, you just need to read the manual and spend a few hours playing around with it. You can also use the presets, which aren't bad. 60 of them gives you some variety. If you want to experience all the features of it, you'll have to spend time with the manual though.
Sound Quality

The preset effects are pretty good, but there are just too many useless distortions, fortunately, most of those are in the editable memory blocks. Many of the other effects are pretty cool though (60 total). Some say that they only use like 2 or 3 effects and the rest are useless, well, why would you buy a *multi* effects pedal? They have single effect pedals for those people, yet they insist on buying a unit like this and then trashing it because they baught the wrong thing. I find a lot of the effects very useful, since I play more experimental type of music, and you can make some really awesome patches if you put the time in to it.
The amp modeler, well, that depends on what kind of amp you have. If all you have is a fender squier sidekick, then it is extremely useful. On the Combo A setting, it'll make that little piece of junk amp sound like a real amp...at low volumes at least, until the speaker gives. If you have a real amp, then I can't say there because I don't have one at the moment.
One thing, this unit is NOT staticky at all, those that experience static have either bad pickups or their guitar volume turned up way to high. On my RG120 Ibanez w/ DiMarzio pickups turning the volume knob down just a tad keeps any static from showing up.

For the price, it is pretty damn good. It can match the sound of many of the more expensive distortion pedals. If it were lost or stolen I'd definately buy another one. The only thing on it that completely blows is the "drum machine". It is useful for nothing more than a metranome, and the sampler is pretty shitty too. Then again, you want a good drum machine, get one, you want a good sampler, get one. If you want a good cheap multi effects pedal in this price range, get this.

Soon as you get this thing you can use it and in my opinion the majority of guys who are gunna be buying this are beginners who don't own any other pedals or processors. For them the effects that are pre programed are great, when I got this I was running it thru a Squier Strat and a Squier Sidekick amp, this was probly the most limited setup soundwise that anyone could get therefore getting the pedal opened up alot of doors for me. I found it easy to get a fairly decent sound (compared to what had at the time) by using this pedal. After a while I felt like experimenting, the manual for it is very very hard to understand at 1st however the actually editing process is not nearly as difficult as it looks, editing patchs is an easy step by step procedure even if it is a lil time consuming. Basically your not gunna learn howto run this thing overnight however as u use it it will become easier.

My gear has changed alot since I got this pedal, I now use a Peavy Studio Pro 112 or Marshall Grd 15 and a 48th Street Custom Strat. The pedal is not usually noisy you do get the odd fx settings/pickup postions where it creates a lil noise but thats only very very rarely. Ok now for the quality of Fx, Clean Chorus is brilliant I can achive amazing clean sounds on using this pedal it rox, the flange is OK but a lil on the weak side, Wah is probly the weakest thing on this pedal but as I don't use the Wah much I'm not too worried about that, Distortion like the Flange is a lil weak but is much better then Amp Distortian the only way yer gunna better this is with a stomp box or expensive processor. I play all sorts of different music and for most this thing suits me fine. I'd give this a 7.5 If I could but thats not possible so i'll give it an 8.

I run this with a Fender Strat to a Fender Frontman 25R. I don't try to do too much, just keep it simple. Some settings are worthless and stupid, but I just made my own settings in their place. I miss a real smooth distortion. The distortions also seem very dirty and have to be corrected at low end to be used at a line in. However, I achieved a good classic rock sound in combination with my Fender Strat, using OD2 and GAIN set at 1. Effects sound nice, and some have really good stereo depth. When I practice with my Dolby ProLogic decoder on it sounds ok. It interprets the stereo signals to give it a front/back dimension.

I have Jackson PS-4 Performer and I use the ZOOM for practice with headphones or recording with PC. It's a funny toy but the sound quality is not good. In the Dist/Comp module, only the Dist-2 setting and the Acoustic Simulation is interesting. Compressor settings suck. Metal dist stinks. Modulation effects are weak and generally useless except some chorus settings. Espescially the wah sounds are ridiculous. Pitch shifters have long latency times and sound horrible. But the noise reduction does a good job. Reverb and echo effects are not flexible enough to find good sounds, in fact, nor are other effects. Amp simulation is just a bunch of EQ presets and alters nothing but the frequency response. Expression pedal and drum samples are good features for this class of units, but since the wah sucks, pedal is not so much necessary. Jam play and sample features are weak and only usefull for fun.
When I try to make direct records with it, it causes a low end boost (even with the "line" setting) so the result is a growling bass sound which is not tolerable. I defianly can't get 80's classic metal sound like Judas or Ozzy though I've tried every combination of effects.

I hesitated between this pedal and a Pandora PX3 because they cost almost the same price in France, almost 200?.
I downloaed the user manual from the web site, so I already known it before trying it.

The drum machine is one of the feature that interrested me a lot into that box. You get a wide variety of rythm for practicing

I found it really disappointing.
The disto are really worse than the one I get with the lead channel on my Peavy Bandit 112 (not the 'S'). They sound weak and muddy.
The settings are easy to use, The problem is to find the settings for the proper sound. I had this pedal for 2hours and impossible to get something decent. The packaged patches are a real pity, they are a lot sort of different one but only a few really fit for my purpose, but do not reach the quality I expected.
The drum kit sounded, let's say average, but really bad regarding the Pandora.
Oh yes, one thing that bothered me, the sampler, only 6 seconds !!!! useless, I need at least 10 secs
Some things are good, the reverb, the wah, too few regarding the number of effect proposed.

It seems that within this price range you have to choose between the sound quality or the hability to gig with. 707 gives you the second only, not enough yet for good gigs, for which you may go to GFX-8 or AX1000.

I got this last year, and as soon as I got it outta the box it was easy to use. However, the manual leaves alot to be desired as it was written by the computer geek that designed it so its hard to understand. Editing patches took me a week to really get down, but once i got it, i could make almost any sound i wanted.

My setup no longer includes the GFX-707 because i have replaced it with many great stompboxes that sound 100% better than the GFX does.I might add it back in for a few songs because of some neat patches. It wasn't noisy when i had it in front of a crybaby and big muff, but like i said it has been replaced. The unit has WAY too many distortion patches, because they all sound the same. After editing almost every patch i could, i could get some REALLY cool Ring Modulator effects. I really liked the underwater-like patch. The Autowah was pointless, the phaser wasnt too bad, the flanger wasn't as wooshy as i like them, but the talk and time trip effects werent too bad. After playing with the reverse patch and adding a Memory Man behind the GFX i could get a weird pulsating space sound that i am thinking about using in a song. A good multi effect pedal, but for a really great sound, go for stompboxes. Its fun mixing this with other pedals though, but its not that great.

My band plays a psychedelic stew of music, ranging from rock to funk to no wave to jazz. I currently use the sampler on this unit for writing solos/songs, and it works well for that. Its also fun to mix and match with my other stompboxes. I can get cool sounds out of certain patches, but not enough of them are good, and too many are distortion patches. Since it mixes well with other units, has a great drum thing, and sampler, is incredible sturdy, and has a few awesome effects, ill give it a 7.

If you mess around with the amp selectors, and also alot wih the equilization, you will most likely be able to get exactly the sound you want. I have had mine for about 4 months, and I change the effects I use most, almost every week. I just keep on changing them a little bit at a time, and i am getting closer to having the exact sound I want.

I am running from a Mexican Strat through the GFX-707, and into a small Peavey amp. I have also played through a large peavey amp, and it sounded great. The ZNR function works well, remember to always have the ZNR as high as possible, while still having the sound you want. I play alot of Creed and Metallica, kind of that beefy crunchy distortion that works good with low tunings, and works very well to get that incerdible Palm Muting sound that Metallica uses alot. As fas as clean goes, I took a preset called 'rockab', and stored it next to my distortion patches, and just messed with the eq for a while and the tone. Also the preset 'fusion' is a very cool effect. I use 'fusion' for the intro to With Arms Wide Open by Creed. At first, It was very reliable, but recently it has began to cut out when the input chord is moved(guitar players can relate to the fact that ...yes the input chord will move well playing) I am pretty sure it is just a loose connection, but it is difficult to fix, because when you take the bottom of the pedal, the circuit board is in the way, and Im to scared that I will erase everything if I take it off too.

This is NOT a item you should buy if you hate to read the manual! Sure, the presets will work and a monkey could figure them out in short order, but you will miss the best part of the thing -- the programable functions! I think you could get most any sound you want out of this box (and there is a website dedicated to giving you the patches you need to get there). The manual is good, easy to understand and follow -- but you really have to read it!

Sounds good -- I have a very solid Washburn Lyon which I use with a Peavey or Marshall amp, and it sounds good with either. I like the clean sounds, and the lack of hiss in any mode I've tried. The distortion sounds almost as good as the soundtank pedal I use, I'm sure with some tinkering you could get there. Not tried many of the effects (except just to try them out) so I can't comment about how good they would be in actual play -- but most sound very good just in testing.

A tex-mew strat (or danelectro u2)>zoom707>marshall vs 65r.
The pedal is generally quiet but i have realised some tone is lost when you bypass the pedal to get a clean sound. I recommend that if you want a clean sound to set it in the pedal (if u get what i mean). In my opinion all the fx sounds dry to me, but due to the relativity of the price it seems adequate. The wah doesnt have a wide "sweep" and all the distortions dont seem to have the crunch or punch some metal heads go for (apart from the VH which is pretty good). One thing good about this pedal is that it has great versatility (if you think thats a proper substitute for tone). I play blues, jazz, rock, funk basically all genres of music and it just about could cover all these. The pedal can (if have the patience for it) mirror any guitarists sound, but not exactly (due to low qualoty sound).

UUUmmmmm......i guess it looked like a solid unit, but my stage history hasnt been action packed, so i dont treat it with much abuse. But i use to own a zoom505 which burned out on me, and i guess the 707 has a chance of doing that. If that doesnt fail you, it does seem like it can withstand the pain. I would not use a backup for this, not because it would last, but because i wouldnt spend more money for another 707 (not that its that bad or anything).

The 707 is suitable for all sorts of music. I never really used fx much through my 10 years of playing, this pedal would be a pretty good first fx pedal (due to price and variety). If on the other hand u want great sound for your guitar buy separate stomp boxes. I now own a jim dunlop crybaby, danelectro grilled cheese distortion (highly recommened for its distinct sound), with the reverb from my marshall. Although its a step down from the range on the 707, its basically all i needed (maybe a chorus and tremelo would help). If it were stolen i wouldnt really care, I dont think id buy it again. I love the range of the pedal, but like the 505 the sound aint top grade (the drum machine only helps for beginners to play along). I wouldnt record anything with it. *
DO NOT BUY MULTI FX PEDALS IF YOU CHERISH GOOD SOUND AND TONE*

The best thing about this pedal is it's extraordinary flexibility. The bad thing about this pedal is it's extraordinary flexibiity. Although those two statements sound contradictory they are not. The very fact of this pedal's flexibility means that it is not a piece of cake to program. But if you stick with it you will be rewarded with whatever sound you are trying to get. The user interface is straightforward and, once you used to it, easy to use. There are so many settings and choices for each setting that it can be a bit overwhelming for someone who thought that they could just take it out of the box and create great sound by using ESP.
Sound Quality
:

I don't know how you could ask for better sound. I use an American Strat running through a Peavy Classic 30 tube amp. The amp tends to emphasize the highs and be too light on the lows. I fixed that be setting the equalizer for exactly the mix I want for each patch.
I play classic rock & roll and a little country in a weekend band. I haven't tried all of the effects because not all of them pertain to my type of music. But the distortions, reverb and chorus have given me everything I could hope for. I have even messed around with some of the more bizarre stuff and have found some things I think I can use in certain situations.
The noise reduction is a great feature. My amp is just about as quiet as you can get without the pedal and the pedal helps to keep it that way. No annoying buzz on stage between songs.
The expression pedal is fun to fool around with. I've set up one patch that uses the pedal pitch function to lower the pitch 1/2 tone when the pedal is depressed. The result is a nice whammy bar effect. I don't have to use the whammy on my guitar and retune after every song.
The key to this pedal is patience. It takes time to set it up and the set up needs to be different for every guitar & amp combination. I suspect that most of the critical reviews I've seen here are the result of not taking enough time to take the characteristics of instrument and amp into consideration. You can't just plug in and play. Many of the presets are not to my liking so I don't use them. The ones I need that aren't there I create. When I do use a preset I take the time to tailor it to my rig.
One of the best things about this pedal is the independant website that is devoted to publishing not only the presets but patches that other people have created. There is a lot of value to knowing how the patches have been created-in my view it is the key to being able to tweak them to get the sound you want out of your rig. The address is: http://venus.spaceports.com/~gfx707/.

I have used a couple of other inexpensive pedals. This one is the winner, hands down! I can't think of anything I need that it doesn't give me-as long as I am willing to take the time to set it up properly. One of the main differences between this pedal and the other inexpensive models I've tried is the noise reduction feature. I had almost given up on effects pedals because of the amount of noise that most of them produce. This one, if you set it up, is nice and quiet and does what it is supposed to do-it gives me the sound and want. It's like a good football referee-the great ones do their job and most of the time you don't even notice they are there. That's what a good effects pedal should do.
This pedal fit my budget and what I'm doing so I see no reason to change. I can't compare it to more expensive pedals because I have never used them. I did work with a guy who was running a Boss pedal through his 60 watt Marshall. It sounded great but I don't think it sounded any better than my rig.
In my opinion this is a terrific bargain for the money.

But I just edit the patches that I use together and I can change through them real easy. I am using Strat>gfx 707>Peavy studio pro 112. It sounds good through my strat, all of the pickups on it are singlecoils....and this pedal kicks out some bass! If you are looking for some bassy distortion, this is where to get it.
The clean effects are fantastic, I get some sounds that sound EXACTLY like creeds clean stuff. Flanger and delay are great to. The wah isn't that good though....maybe I just need to program a good wah sound, or get a Vox or Morly.
Distortion is real bassy as I mentioned above. There are also some less bassy distortion though=) Large range of distortions to, i'd say 1/4th or 1/2 of the effects are distortion. I don't have any other pedals than this so i'm not real sure what other kind of distortions are out there.

But i'm not planning on having it stolen anytime soon but i'm gonna keep it as long as possable.
It might stand a better wah, but hey.....most multi FX don't have good wah, so you might as well buy a seprate wah.
This is a awesome pedal if all you need is a small pedal for playin' at the house and playing at small gigs and stuff.

I've been using the GFX-707 for about 9 months now...I wrote a review right away when I got it, but now that I've had a lot more time to play around with it, I figured I'd submit another. First, a power adapter is a must. Don't even try playing with batteries, they'll be dead in a few short days of heavy usage. It's easy to figure out how to edit patches, although I still have to check the manual occasionally for certain functions. The manual is pretty well-written, although the descriptions of certain effects could be clearer. Overall, it's a pretty nice, easy-to-use pedal.
Sound Quality
:
8
My usual setup is a Fender Strat to the GFX-707 to either a tiny 10-watt Marshall or a Fender Frontman. The Marshall is muddy snd the Frontman is trebly, so it's a little hard to judge the actual tone of the GFX.
The distortions cover everything you could want (acoustic simulator, two overdrives, two distortions, various compressor + distortion combo, and metal- and lead-specific distortions). They don't always sound incredible, but it doesn't sound like crap, either. The Zoom Noise Reduction is excellent. I completely forgot it was there until I played straight into my amp once and noticed quite a lot of noise.
The modulations, like the distortions, cover just about everything you'd want, but there are a few distinct problems. First, you can't combine any two effects. For instance, I wanted to make a patch that was dropped half a step (to play Metallica stuff) and that also had a wah. But you can only have one effect at a time, so I couldn't do it. There's a few combinations (tremolo + chorus is the only one I can think of offhand), but I still end up wanting to use other combos sometimes.
The reverbs are nicely done and are thankfully separated from the other effects (so that you can use reverb/delay with any modulation). There's really nothing special about them, but they sound nice.
I haven't used the amp sim much since I haven't done much direct recording, but it seems pretty well-done. There's no real amp models here, but the "stereotypical" amps (combo, bright, stack, etc.) sound nice.
Finally, I'll touch on a few other features...the built-in drum machine is nice for practice. Worthless for playing live and too repetitive for most recording, but great for practice. The riff sampler and Jam Play features are the most worthless things in the GFX-707. The sampler doesn't record enough to be really worthwhile and the Jam Play thing just makes no sense.
Re-reading what I just wrote, I sure do sound pessimistic. Don't be mistaken, it's a great pedal, there's just a few more things I wish it had.

I mean I have a marshall valvestate and that damn thing will pick up TV stations with the wrong kind of wiring in a house, but not with this thing attached, and the sounds are great.. I can mostly get the sounds of a favorite artist.. It has some very good sounds built in, patches that come with it.. but it also has some shitty ones.. I like about 1/3 to 1/2 of the presets..

I use a Gibiphone Strat copy through a crate 15 watter.I am sad to say that if you want to use all of the patches, you need a bigger amp.The auto wah and tremolo do not come out in my amp. When i got onto a 50 watter they worked.I like the van halen distortion effect the most, very rich distortion.the flanger and wahs dont sound all that great in my opinion though.

I play a Peavey Fierenza with 2 p90's through a peavy bandit 112. The jet and chorus effects are beyond outstanding and are reason enough to spend $170 to buy it. I use the overdrive to play SRV. But, the Pedal Wah will never be the peer of a Crybaby.

Overall, the Zoom is an excellent choice for anyone interested in exploring the digital effects processor realm. It is an incredibly simplistic pedal to use with all features listed pretty clearly in the manual.

I currently use a Stage Stratocaster and Traynor Signature Series tube amp. I also use the Zoom for direct recording to 4-track and digital 8-track. All in all the pedal sounds amazing. I've successfully managed to get *almost* every sound I've attempted to get from it. The ZNR (Zoom Noise Reduction) feature is great and helps quell most noise from bad grounds and the like.

I haven't had a problem with it yet and I've owned it for 6 months. I beat the crap out of it at home and it still sounds like the day I bought it. Zoom's doing something right these days... :)
I probably would use it at a gig with no backup, but I'd be inclined to run 2 separately in-line for patch combinations.

Usually I play a lot of Hard Rock/Alternative/Metal, however I have dabbled in funk, jazz, and blues since buying the Zoom. If it were stolen, I'd find the guy that stole it, break his fingers, and get my pedal back! I bought it on a whim, now I refuse to get rid of it. :) If it could only have a little longer sampling time I'd be set....

Very very simple, the only problems I have a) the eq is slightly annoying to tweak (you use a knob to toggle between the low bands) b) you can specify which module to assign the expression pedal too (distortion, sfx, etc) but you can't choose which parameter within the module which can be frustrating. I found a distortion I liked but I couldn't control the gain with the pedal. Other then these two points it's a dream to use quick and easy to learn.

I play a Yamaha Pacifica and a Fender Squire Stagemaster-7 (A Seven String) through a tiny little practice amp... I've also spent a few late nights running my guitar into the pedal and then right into a pair of headphones. The pedal can be a bit noisy if you don't bother to tweak the noise reduction take the ten seconds it takes and your set every time you use that patch. The effects are pretty good... the amp sim sounds like a sim and not the real deal (what did you expect from a cheaper pedal) but it produces tones about as good as a solid state without modeling and sounds pretty good when run into the headphones definitely sufficient for late night bedroom rocking. The effects are pretty good but some of the preset patches are lousy. I've got some good sounds out of tweaking the user definable. This is another sore point most of the factory patchs that I like are in the user writable banks. Two words of advice learn to use the equilizer and the reverb I didn't at first in my haste to get going and the tone got a hell of a lot better when I did (I didn't take to long to figure out either) The tone of the pedal lies somewhat on the harsh side so if you've already shelled out for a tube amp or a good modeling solid state you'll probably want to invest in a bucket of stomp boxes, but for a beginer looking for a crap load of decent effects at a good price it's a great buy. One final word of warning I've found that the sound is kindof crappy when I tune my guitar down. It's fine for drop d but one you tune down 2 whole steps or more or try to use a seven string it starts to sound washed out. If anyone knows anyways to fix this let me know. Oh and one the subject of detuning... the pitchshifter effect sucks shift down and you get muddy fart like noises shift up and you get a peircing very synth like shrill sound. Must admit I kinda like the shrill sound in an evil organ noise kind of way but it's no whammy pedal.

I play a lot of different stuff... mostly alt-rock/punk/metal stuff I like weird shit and the options this thing gives is a great asset. Just last week I was playing with long delays and echos so I could play a riff then play a harmony over the echo... I have fun with it. I've only been playing for about a year and a half but I'm pretty fanatical about it. If this got stolen I'd probably get another unless I happened to have enough money for a bucket of pedals or a really good processor. I love the options. I hate the number of crappy patches in the not editable banks. Bottom line for buying this pedal is price, it is beautiful for a beginner easy, cheap, a wealth of options and very little noise. For the proffesional one should probaly look elsewhere... once you get really good and experienced you'll probably have to look elsewhere to get really good tone... but it is great for practicing in your bedroom.

This thing rocks!! I first bought it for the wah pedal and the tremolo effects. But I soon found that this pedal had many more surprises in
store for me. There is not one effect on this thing that I wouldn't use. It's amazing! And the patches are a breeze to edit. I can knock down a patch in less than 20 seconds at the least. The only thing I haven't gotten the hang of is the ZNR/EQ feature. The manual was easy to read and understand, and I'm in the eighth grade. It doesn't use technical terms because there's nothing technical about it. Simple and effective.
Other great features are the sampler and the drum loops. The sampler samples and loops up to 6 seconds of whatever goes into the input jack(I wish it would go longer, but who doesn't?). You can then jam along with it at full speed or half speed. There is also a bypass option if you want a less prominent riff under a lead with the effect.
The drum loop thing is great for demoing. I wouldn't use it for recording an album, but it is ideal for jamming or just laying down an idea on tape. The styles range from Shuffle, Rock, Dance, Jazz, Thrash, and even Ska! And the tempos range from 40-250 bpm. It's a terrific feature!

I am equipped with a Yamaha Pacifica 604W and a Crate GX-20M. It works wonderfully. I haven't noticed any any weakening of sound over time, everything sounds great! The only artist I have recreated was Frank Zappa, and that was mainly by accident. Just stick some heavy reverb with a strong flange effect with the right distortion setting. I did recreate Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead(sort of) which is often pretty tough to do. But I usually don't try to recreate other artists.
So all in all, its a very diverse piece of equipment.

The only problem I have had with this product are the input and output jacks. Over time they start to wobble, creating a popping noise that can become a real nuisance. I usually just mess around with the cables for a few seconds and it goes away. I would definitely trust it while performing live. The only reason the wobbling happens is because my room has considerably thick carpet. This means when I use the wah pedal the whole thing moves with it. I doubt this would happen on hard floor (except if you have very heavy feet and a very weak floor).

I mainly write and listen to progressive rock. I'm also now dabbling into jazz. I think it's safe to say this pedal is a catch all for all genres. If it was stolen, I would rush to the store and get another one as soon as possible. I don't play without it. The one thing I wish that this baby could do (besides sampling over 6 seconds) is to combine patches. But hey! For twice the price you can buy two! To sum it up, this is a terrific piece of equipment. I recommend getting it as soon as possible.
P.S. For all you keyboard players out there, here's a hint: If your keyboard has a headphone jack, stick one end of a cable into it and stick the other end into the input jack of the Zoom GFX707. Guitar players no longer get to have all the fun!!

I play my Roadhouse Strat into the 707 then into a Marshall VS265R when playing at home. I usually just leave the Marshall on the clean channel and use the 707 to get the sound I want. I also plug the 707 directly into the mixer snake at rehersals and gigs. I don't even bother dragging my amp around. It sounds fine going straight into the board. I use a wide range of sounds from clean to overdrive. The factory blues patch sounds great the neck pickup on the strat. It also has a good acoustic simulator so I rarely use my accoustic guitar anymore. Overall the unit is very quite.

I gig with it every weekend. I had a problem with the input jack. The solder broke between the jack and the PC board. I took it apart and fixed it myself. Also, one of the large foot switches popped out but I snapped it back in. If you want to use it outside, you must memorize you patch order and keep track of which patch you are on. You cannot see the display when outside. I've tried shading it but forget it.

This is where I have a big problem with it. The unit worked well for 4 months before the nightmare began.
You can't depend on it for live performances. I had terrible problems with the input jack. At first I did not know what was causing the static noise or reduction in volume during a few of live performances because the problems were intermittent. I thought it was my pickups or cords. But it turned out to be the the input jack.
I would not use it on a gig without a backup. In fact, if I had a backup I would use it instead of this. Believe me, it will save you from some very embrassing moments.

I use a peavy classic 30 with a Gibson Les Paul DC Standard. I'm pretty pleased with a few of the sounds, but don't use a lot of the presets. I tweak a few of them and leave them as is, but i basically use only about five of the 60 presets without changing them. There are a few more decent then just five, but nothing much to speak of. If you can learn to make the sounds you want, you can definitely get them out of this, but i'm still working on that a little. It's really just a matter of what you put in to it is what you'll get out. It has a lot of versitility in that way. I'll give it a 7 but it's really about 6.5 until i can continue to make more of the sounds i want, which again, is really more my fault then the product's. Still better then a great deal of digital effects pedals, although digital has come a long way.

I use this processor with my Fender Princeton Stereo Chorus amp and Epiphone Les Paul Special. I thought the GFX 707 had a few good effects and quite a few mediocre ones that I don't use much...but then, that's just personal opinion. The distortions are okay, although if you want really good distortion you would probably be better off purchasing just a simple fuzz pedal.

The GFX 707 is just not very reliable. Twice it has broken down on me during a performance...I no longer dare to use it when I'm playing live. This is a fun and useful tool for messing around in your basement or rehearsing in your garage, but it's just not dependable enough to be used for live shows.
