It's a pretty straight forward unit. If your familiar with the effects units then this one will won't surprise you. The manual is really easy to understand. The jam which is the most copmlicated is also the most pointless. And of course ZOOM did their usual thing and tied the hands of the user quite a bit, usually this isn't a problem, but expression pedal assignments and wah/wammy range isn't as variable as I'dd like it.

I'm using a Peavey Predator and an old Samick amp. I don't use the preamp on my amp anymore I just go in through the effects return and use the units amp simulator, (I like combo A). The noise level is really low, a definite improvement from the 505. The zoom continued it's trend with of masking guitars and making all guitars sound the same, which doesn't really bother me. The sustain of my guitar has dropped considerably, as well as my ability to use the volume control to lower the amount of distortion , this I attribute to the digitalness of this pedal. The distortions sound good sometimes, like when playing power chords and punk stuff, but you can't get a nice Steve Vai scream out of it. If you try to hold a steady, distorded, high-pitched note, (say high-e string, 10th fret), then along with the sustain being bad, the note's gain fluctuates, it doesn't sound very good at all, (try playing the intro the Bed of Roses - Bon jovi). This may be a problem with just my unit, try it out and email me to tell me if the same thing happens to your unit. The effects are great, the delays, flanger, chorus and even the odd effects like the time trip and ring modulator, they're very well done. It would be nice if the patches faded from one to another instead of a straight jump (just enough so the reverbs and delays don't die so fast). The EQ is a phenominal improvement over the 505, so finding a nice sound is pretty easy. The only real problem with this is sustained distortion that I spoke of above.

some of the factory patches are useable without modification, but like all units you have to play with it most of the time to get a good sound out. the manual is easy to understand, but the interface isn't the most user friendly and you HAVE to have the manual around for editing patches. there's no way out of it.

i'm using the gfx707 with a schecter a7 7-string guitar and a pair of headphones at the moment. i plan on recording directly with the unit soon. the quality of the effects surprised me, especially for a unit in the "under $200" price range. the unit isn't noisy at all through headphones (unlike the whole line of DOD products). the distortions are very varied and versatile. it should be understood that in my opinion, no floor unit will EVER rival the sound quality of a good rack unit. the one thing i don't care for is that the expression pedal can't be mapped to a specific parameter (zoom decided what parameter it should operate at the factory for each effect, and you can't change it from, say, the factory setting of flanger SPEED to the DEPTH. then again, for the price i'm surprised it even had an expression pedal. the drum settings are pretty basic and have a slight electronic sound to them, but if you're playing over it, it's not that noticable. it beats (no pun intended) the monotonous sound of a metronome.

well, like everyone else, i think the bright idea to make the whole unit plastic is a poor one. when i use the gfx707 i don't feel lik ei'm about to break it, but i wouldn't want to accidentally step on it or drop it. because of the way you have to access patches (sequentially [eg you have to cycle through each track, one at a time] instead of direct access [eg you assign the patches to individual buttons]). for home use, practice, or if you're a one-setting type of person, it would be just fine. i haven't had any problems out of the unit as far as normal operation goes.

the price doesn't include an adaptor. i ordered it from musician's friend, and got the processor, the adaptor, and second day air shipping for under 200 bucks. i play lots of things: goth, industrial, metal, deathmetal, etc and i think that this unit is suited fine for that. i like this unit better than the digitechs (they and DOD are made by the same company, which erases all respect i have for them), but the boss pedals (mainly the gt3 and the gt5) beat the zoom. for the money paid, this unit is well worth it. it has decent sound quality, doesn't give you that oh-so-famous 60Hz hum when you plug it up, and after you read the manual once real good and toy with it, it's easy to operate.

Superb for a unit at this price. I'm using it with a Colombus Series II, and a Marshall 50watt combo, and with these it sounds great. With this effects pedal, it has a great blues sound with some of the effects. And it is possible to get the sound of the best artists, with some time spent.

It is better than the last time I responded and the things that I was having problems with are history. the JAM function works (MY FAULT), and the patches sound extra good now that I am comfortable with the pedal. I imagine it will take me until february 2000 to develop part of my custom patch list, the possiblities are endless.
Sound Quality
:

The last time I responded I said that the "JAM" function was hard to operate....well.....I feel a bit stupid, the problem was that the expression pedal sensitivity needed to be re-adjusted, all it took was a small adjustment and the "JAM" function jumped to life it's so easy its embarrasing that I actually wrote "that they could make it easier to operate". and it works great. the sample time is way to short and the fact that you can't tell where the time starts (no metronome or click) makes it a pain to find the correct stop point. So it requires some trial and error. But overall it is fun to experiment with.
Also after some time getting to use the pedal in different environments and settings, I am amazed at the possible combinations that can be setup as a patch, tiny rotations of the knobs in conjunction with other settings can give you a whole new sound. I spent over 4 hours just writing down new patch combinations just with the modulation setting and no adjustments to anything else, and I wasn't even close to half of the possibilities. I was able to get sounds from Hendrix to King Crimson to Zappa. The possibilities are endless. So for those guys and gals who think its just junk or just a toy. I would suggest trying a patch other than distortion and noise and try the cleaner tones with various settings, it will allow you to hear the quality or lack of quality in your real skill. It will also allow you to stop covering up "the lack of" with volume and overdrive. The pedal doesn't sound bad or good its the player that makes the pedal do what its meant to do.

so far so good, I work for NASA and some of the guys I work with, that design hardware told me that they make plastics that are more durable that any metal, and if a company makes a product that is made to be stomped on and kicked around, there is a good chance that it was made of a plastic material that will do just that...take it. so yes I would use it on a gig.

I'm using a Epiphone Les Paul though a Crate GX212. When you use headphones to jam with the GFX it sounds great but there is an annoying hum-like noise that the GFX produces when used with an amp. All the effects are great, I can replicate the exact sounds of 311, the Police, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage etc. It's a very versatile. I'm still looking for a good distortion setting ( like Creed). The flanger and chorus are great. The pedal Wah is very weak but the auto-wah is good. It can get very confusing to use live due to a lack of buttons ( only 2).

It is pretty easy to do quick editing with the knobs; however getting you have to break out the manual for doing things like EQ and more advanced stuff. The parameters of the knobs change depending on what effect you are editing, so the amount of tweaking you can do can be overwhelming sometimes. That can be a good thing too--this pedal is very versatile.

I am using a Standard Strat with a Champ 110 amp. Mostly, I run it through my Yamaha MT120 4-track as a mixer and then into my SB Live for recording direct in Cakewalk. I found that for mono recording it seems to beef up the sound a bit for me to run it through my amp first, then out to the mixer. Noise is almost non-existent with the noise gate enabled; in fact I would suggest turning the noise gate down a little. Some of the presets are OK, but most will need tweaking for recording. I was quite surprised at the quality of effects--only a slight hint of "digitalness." The saving grace is the amp modeling which adds a nice warm tone when you want it. I can't get a lot of scream on the dirty patches, though that is probably my low-output single-coil bridge pu. I am picky about dist/overdrive but this is pretty good. All of the modulation effects are great (Chorus/Vibe/Pedal-Wah) except auto-wah, which is a tone sucker. You can get just about anything you want with some adjustments.

I really wanted to get a POD, but just couldn't justify the cost. The POD is $100 more without an expression pedal. Once I heard the ZOOM I was satisfied. I compared the mono POD sounds on tonefrenzy.com to the ZOOM mono sounds and couldn't tell a lot of difference. If you have to have name-brand amp sim and have more money to spend you might want to try the POD. For me, the overall quality of the GFX 707 is good enough to keep me happy and keep me from spending more money on pedals and batteries (get the optional AC adapter).

This unit is easy to use you can get started without having
to read the manual and refer to it as you get further into it.
This is a well thoughtout and well engineered product. The knobs

The EQ settings / names are somewhat confusing at least for me.

This unit is significantly improved over the 505. I didn't keep
the 505 because it was too noisy. Zoom fixed that problem with
the 707. I've only had this for a few days, it is quite versital
in it range of effects some of which I probably will never use.
I like the on board drum machine feature, as I plan on using it
mainly as a practice unit and also to record a rhythm track that
I can jam along too. For this I think this unit is perfect and I
can see it being a excellent learning tool. As far as using it
Live on stage, I'm not there yet and this may not be the effects

I play mainly Blues and Rockabilly with that swing thing.
I've dialed in the shuffle beat along with some light dist/od
a touch of reverb, the amp simulator set to combo and away I go!
Heck you don't even need an amp just some head phones, pretty
cool little unit. Some people love it some people feel it is
a waste of money and just a toy. It depends on what your looking
for and what you expect. For me at $150.00 bucks this is a great
product and like I said some thought was put into this unit
before they put it out. And so for the price and comparisons
to other cheap multi fx units I think this one can't be beat.
But it's like a computer I'm sure there will be something better
and cheaper than this down the line. Ahh technology gotta love it!

I USE A CUSTOM FENDER STRAT WHICH USED TO BE A SQUIRE BUT THE ONLY THING SQUIRE ABOUT IT IS THE NECK, ITS A STRAT WITH 3 GOLD LACE SENSORS TWO DBX TONE CONTROLS ALL NEW WIRING, AN LSR ROLLER NUT WITH SCHALLER LOCKING TUNERS AND A FENDER DELUXE 2-POINT TREMLO LOCKING BRIDGE, ALL ELECTRONICS WERE GUTTED AND REPLACED WITH TOP OF THE LINE ELECTRONICS AND GOLD CONNECTORS. AN ASH BODY WITH A GOLD ANODIZED PICKGUARD. THE GUITAR SCREAMS WITHOUT EFFECTS BOXES. I PLAY AT MY STUDIO THRU 2 (TWO) CRATE GXF-15'S SPLIT WITH A (Y) TO GET THAT STEREO EFFECT, ITS A SMALL AMP BUT IT HAS GREAT TONE AND IT SERVES THE PUROPSE WELL. THE ZOOM GFX-707 COME THRU LIKE A PRO UNIT THE SOUNDS ARE VERY WELL DEFINED AND THE EXPRESSION PEDAL ASSIGNMENT FUNCTION IS GREAT. I LOVE THE REVERSE, VIOLIN,AND PHASING/CHORUS WITH THE FULL DOUBLE STACK SOUND (B), TALK ABOUT "PHAT". THE SWELL SHAKES THE WINDOWS. I LIKE ALLAN HOLLDSWORTH AS FAR AS GUITARISTS SOUND GOES AND I CAN GET IT FROM THE GFX-707. THE ONLY THING I REALLY DISLIKE IS THE JAM FUNCTION, NOT THAT IT DOESN'T WORK, BUT IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS TO PROGRAM. AND IT TAKES ABOUT 12 SECONDS TO GO INTO RECORD MODE AND BY THAT TIME YOU FORGOT WHY YOU HAD THE PEDAL PRESSED DOWN. THAT NEEDS WORK BUT....WHEN IT WORKS, IT IS GREAT. I LOVE THE SETUP THE ANALOG AND DIGITAL COMBINATION THE PCM SOUNDS AND THE RHYTHM MACHINE, THE SAMPLER AND THE JAM FUNCTION (WHEN IT WORKS).
I HATE THE FACT THAT IT TAKES SO MUCH TO SET THE JAM FUNCTION UP AND I NEVER KNOW IF ITS GOING TO WORK CORRECTLY.
I HAVE BEEN SHOPPING FOR A PEDAL FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS THE ONLY OTHER PEDAL I HAVE IS THE ZOOM 505 AND HAVE NEVER FOUND ANYTHING ELSE I LIKED AS MUCH OR WANTED TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR.
I WISH IT HAD AN ADJUSTMENT FOR THE RHYTHM SECTION AS FAR AS THE INDIVIDUAL PIECES FOR THE DRUM KIT.
IT IS THE BEST PEDAL I HAVE USED. AND I HAVE USED THEM ALL. I PLAYED WITH IT IN THE DEMO ROOM OF THE STORE I PURCHASED IT FROM AND WHEN I WAS DONE I TOOK IT HOME. I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE, I AM THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT WILL GO TO THE STORE 10 TIMES BEFORE I BUY IT.

I auditioned both the Zoom and the Korg AX-1G for about an hour before I decided on taking home the GFX-707. I made my decision based on the fact that the 707 has knobs and the Korg doesn't (when you need to pick up a manual in order to adjust the volume you know the unit's for engineers or they just cut corners on cost way too much). The easy edit function on the Zoom is exactly that. The manual does what a manual should do, inform.

I use my Carvin, Paul Reed Smith, or Heartfield guitars into the Zoom GFX-707 & out to the Power Amp In of my Fender Deluxe 85. I don't run it through the combo's preamp at all. Let me say that the dynamics are impressive for this unbelievably priced unit. Just back off the effects mix on some of the user presets and you've got good tone. In the music store I thought both the Korg and the Zoom couldn't hold a candle to my studio/stage rig (tube pre-amp, f/x processor, mosfet power amp, & two 2x12s) but, when I got home and plugged the Zoom directly into the power amp...let's just say I've yet use my $2,250 rig since the Zoom came home with me. The cabinet simulator knob is very versatile for dialing in a scooped mid crunch or a more open lead sound. For the price paid the f/x are very useable. Just the pitch shifter leaves a bit to be desired (doesn't track fast enough).

To me it seems like unless you mistreat it (throw it 10-20 feet or spill liquid on it), it's durable enough to use on stage. I know it's plastic on the outside but, the way the circuit boards and LEDs are mounted (and their quality) on the inside is what makes a unit reliable or not. Since I'm not going to void my warantee and open the unit up...

I've been playing 10 years now and technology never ceases to amaze me. If it were lost or stolen I would audition the Boss GT-3 or the Roland GT-5 against the Zoom and decide if the $150-320 extra gives me at least 50% better sound. If they don't, back to Zoom I'd go.

I use a Standard Fender strat through a Fender frontman 25watts and the Overdrive and distortion sounds when put through the Zoom are really quite weak, they're all digital and fake, and don't have much grunt. Forget about the amp simulator- that is just another gimmick to squeeze as much as they can into one machine,( along with the drum machine and playback recorder). The E.Q option is just another sound warping option to weaken the sound. The modulator sound are sufficient
although scrap the crap like ring modulator and envelope filter. The delays are second rate with no clarity.I'm into U2, Collective soul and the older stuff like Hendrix and clapton, so nothing to heavy- but Zoom just doesn't cut it. Finally, after adjusting all of the output levels- that weakens the sounds even further.

As an addition to some excellent stomp boxes, I'm happy with some of its features (the chorus, the volume pedal). But it seems to me that many of the bells and whistles on it are useless--the distortions sound total shit to me. The thing takes your guitars normal sound and totally depersonalizes it. Wish I'd paid the extra money and bought a Digitech RP-7. Would I replace it? Not with another one, I wouldn't. Why did I buy it? Merely to have something a bit silly in my arsenal. Did it contribute in that way? Yes.

Very easy to use. The presets are useable right out of the box and easy to tweak either temporarily or permanently. Editing is very Zoom-like and the three quick edit knobs really help. I'm using a Strat and a Tele Special along with a Fender '82 Concert amp. I've also used the pedal directly into a mixer with fine, if somewhat slightly overprocessed results. There's something for everyone in this pedal. The variety of distortions, modulations and delays is large and very useable. I find the chorus and flange parameters a tad weak but still very musical. The pedal control is great - you can assign it to gain or modulation level or delay speed/level or volume and more. Very hip.

It's very flexible and there's lots of parameters to experiment with and the basics all sound good and are easy to set up and use. The corners cut to keep the price so low seem to be in the physical construction more than the internal electronics. I wish I could read the display in daylight and I wish the compressor was a bit smoother.

Maximized combinations that 4 knobes, 8 buttons and 2 pedals can ever make, considering user inferface. There are many useful functions in this light and small box besides various effectors, like digital tuner, drum machine and sampler.(don't expect too much about sampler. I found no use of it,yet) You can say it could be much easier to use if it has more pedal like GT-5, boss. However, it is such a small box comparing with its versatility, and so comvinient to carry with.

There are largely 3 parts in this effects ; Amplitude, Frequency, Time/Spacial modifications. (1) Amplitude effects (compressing, dist/over/fuzz...) is so satisfactory, Even if amplitude effects is one of the weakest point of these kinds of digital multi-effector. Of course, this relatively cheap box cannot emulate the real over-driven amp tone or the tube effects, but it can enhance its amlitude effects by using equalizer or other room (reverb) effects. (2) Frequency effects (equalizer, wah...) Equalizer is only 4 band, but useful. Auto wah is a little bit weak, but pedal wah is good - it would be better if the expression had more depth. (3) Room/Time delay effects. So good. ---- If I grade it among all kinds of analog and digital effects, its sound quality is 8 point, among all the digital multi effects, 9 point, and among the same priced any multies, it is much more than 10 point.

PLASTIC----- <Contra 1> can be fragile - but it's OK. I usually use it practicing at home. <Contra 2> cannot resist electric noise - strangely, S/N is so high. <Pro> light and portable - such a advantage for me. I had so hard time whenever I had to use GT-5.

I played the guitar over 10 years. I used several effects, and used to make several effects. GFX707 is (1) So VERSATILE - various effects, tuner, drum machine. (2) The Best one for PRACTICING - drum machine, portable. (3) EFFICIENCY - such a high quality compared with the price. (4) PERFORMANCE - all the effects are over the average. (5) Happy - to get it at relatively low price.

Real easy to get good crunchy sound, although I found the knobs to be a little sensitive when adjusting effects. Requires minimal reading of the already scant manual, but the whole patch editing process is very intuitive. Travel is a little bit short on the pedal for my tastes, but it works well nonetheless.

I'm using an Ibanez S-470 with a Seymour-Duncan Screamin' Demon in the bridge position, and a Peavey bandit 112 amp. Noise reduction has improved drastically over the Zoom 505, and I can get a lot better "tubey" sounds out of my solid state amp. Does a great Hagar-era Van Halen. On the "Wild" distortion setting, the thing SCREAMS with my screamin' demon pickup.

It's plastic, and I wouldn't throw it around too much. I've only had it for about 2 months now, and I've spilled coffee on it, but it's been good so far. If I'm playing a gig, I'd definitely go with a rack mount system, but it's great for practice.

I've been playing for about a year and a half--primarily rock and blues, and I dabble in jazz a little bit. It's awesome considering all of the effects Zoom has shoehorned into that little pedal unit--the bang for the buck is unbeatable. I do wish it did have a little more flexibility in which effects can be used simultaneously, though.

Using the built-in patches is easy, and editing is easier than with the Korg AX1G or the Zoom 505. The display and tuner are easy to read in the dark, but you can't see them in direct sunlight. It takes about an hour or two to become familiar with patch editing, but it's easier than similar units. There is a lot of difference in volume between patches, so you have to adjust the output on the unit when switching patches.

I'm using a Fender Standard Strat with a Peavey Rage 158 amp. Most of the effects are pretty quiet, a definite improvement over the Zoom 505. The noise reduction and equalizer work well. Chorus effect is good, fuzz and distortion is excellent, delay and reverb are good. Many of the preprogrammed patches sound great, such as fuzzface, distortion, and lead. Many others needed some modification. After a few hours of editing patches, I got a lot more useful sounds. The built-in drum machine is good for practice and the drum sounds are good.

I've been playing for less than a year. I play many different styles(rock, metal, pop), and this box seems to do it all. If it were stolen or lost, I would definitely buy another one. It's well worth the money. It easily beats the Zoom 505 and the Korg AX1G. I just wish it was more durable so I could use it on a stage.

Strat and Tele through a Yamaha T-50 into an Ampeg SuperJet. Great Tone. Reduced (but did not eliminate) noise in a club that has Horrible wiring, before the 707 I wasn't able to play the Tele in there. It doesn't sound processed or digital through the amps. Killer patches: J-Pop Sunset Ped-wah

First the bad news; You can't spill beer on it. Now the good news. It works again after I cleaned the beer off of the PCB. They could have encapsulated the PCB and drilled some drain holes in the bottom. moral: Don't forget your TS-9 and Crybaby.

You can get just about any tone with it. It is much easier and more consistent than my stomp boxes. I would get another one if I lost it. The X-Pedal seems sturdy. I bet it sucks at an outside gig but I haven't tried it yet. It makes me practice more (and harder). It's damn sure worth the money.

The manual is excellent AND it's on the net in PDF format for free downloading, so you can actually learn how to use the unit before you purchase it if you so desire. This is what I did. However, if you're at all familiar with floor effects boxes and pedals, you don't really need the manual. It is incredibly intuitive and very smartly done in terms of user interface. Worthy of special notation are the parameter knobs that allow for real-time editing of any patch while in play mode. This allows you to adjust your sound while playing (ala stomp box), but if you like the sound of your adjustments, just hit the store button and save your tweaks to the preset! How easy is that? The very readable display is also excellent. I should give this category a 10 probably, but if I rave too much they may not post it. Comparing it with my Toneworks AXG1 (which I like very much), it is so much easier to use and especially to read.

I use the pedal with a Fender Roland-ready Strat. I am using the effects loop on my Roland GR-30 guitar synth to hit the GFX-707 and there is no loss of signal that I can decipher and the unit is very quiet, not noisy at all. I especially like the distortion and OD effects. I am well pleased with the reverb, chorus and delay and to be honest, I don't use pitch shifting and stuff like that very often. The wah is excellent (better than the AX1G), but the auto-wah is not so (but that can likely be adjusted to suit one's taste). The cabinet emulators are way cool and I haven't touched the noise reduction yet. Oh yeah... the drum machine! While I probably would never think of gigging with it, man does it open up avenues for creativity; a most excellent feature for practicing (beats the heck out of an obnoxious metronome). The 6 second sampler with the capability for slow play-back is also a very nice perk for those of us who are still trying to figure out what the heck "the Greats" are actually doing! You can plug in your favorite SRV CD and sample a lick, then play it back nice and slow while you figure out what ol' Stevie was thinkin'... way cool!

This is a platic unit, which has plusses (it's very light and small), and minuses (it's more fragile than metal). For me it's not an issue 'cause I play mostly in my home studio and at churches. I'm in a contemporary christian worship band and while we can get pretty raucous, it's not like there's a lot of opportunity for it to get damaged. I won't use a backup. In fact I plan on selling my AX1G, since, sound-wise, the two things are pretty much redundant and the GFX is imminently easier to use... and more fun!

I've not dealt with Zoom or Samson Technologies, but it comes with a "no strings attached" 1 year warranty. For the almost negligible cost of the unit, I think a one-year warranty is excellent!

When the Korg Toneworks AX1G came along (just months ago), I thought it was the greatest thing, and I still like it. I also checked out the Zoom 505 before I bought the AX1G. I have to tell you, the GFX-707 blows them both out of the water. It beats the AX1G because of it's easiness and readability and feature list. The AX1G beats the 505 on sound and features (especially the pedal, which is why I bought the AX1G). But the additional features and sounds of the GFX-707 clearly beat them both, and within the same price range (i.e. under $200). In my opinion, this is a value that just can't be beat, although I'm very interested already to see what's coming next?

This multifx pedal is easy for a beginner. I dont have much trouble editing my sounds, compared to my RP3. The features are also simple yet compact. The manual provided are clear and concise, and for a familiar multifx player, you dont even need the manual to operate this baby.

I am using my Les Paul Custom 98 Black Beauty with my Hughes and Kettner Tube 50 Combo to test this thing. It seems to me the sounds are not to what you expected. Rp3 does sounds a lot better compared to GFX 707. If they can enhance the sound to a stereo sound it would the best. I connect this GFX with Rp3 to gain the maximum sound, and it works. The stereo sound of GFX is termendous and you'll be surprised with it. GFX707 has great effects blended into one compact processor. So, no worries, superb effects. I love the Wah stereo sound of this pedal. I have a VOX wah pedal and DOD volume Wah Pedal. GFX Wah sounds better than DOD, but less than the VOX. But, still the best Wah sound compared to RP3 and Zoom 505.

This is of course a plastic, fragile baby. You cant throw or drop it anytime u like. so, no aggressive use is adviced. I would certainly use a backup when using this pedal. I have tried numerous Multifx pedals, like RP12, ME30, RP7, Zoom 3030, etc, and I will need a better pedal for backup. This pedal is great for a jam session and not for a gig, indeed.

it is pretty easy compared to some though if you have never used a multifx pedal its not exactly totally easy, but its probably one of the easier that i tried comparing to the boss gt3 and digitech rp3 and 7 the coolest thing is the super large alphanumeric readout... the engineers get a thumbs up on this one... as far as giging, it outdoes the digitechs and the boss by far especially if your as blind as me...

the distortions are the best, though zoom is known for that so that is not much of a suprise... the chorus is really good the reverb is pretty good.. the echo is the only thing that you really have play around with to get a non artificial sound... this pedal would have a ten if the when you changed effects the previous effect would fade out... it just switches which most of the time is not a problem at all but on some effects switches it really is a problem i am pretty sure the nicer effects units offer this function, though i am not certain... but i prefer the compact size of this pedal to the more exspensive boss and digitechs... now i tried the digitechs and the rp3 is more majestic sounding but it is filled with little static clicks and glitches, known as artifacts to audiofiles.. and really makes it in my opinion unusable... and the distortions are bad... the rp7 has the distortion problem as well but i can not confirm whether it has the artifact problem... the boss gt3 has better distortions then the digitech but not better then the zoom... the gt3 is just too big and exspensive as well... people have complained about the zoom 505 having a serious noise problem well zoom fixed this prob cause the 707 is way quiet i think only the gt3 is a quieter of all i tested...
the drum machine sounds good and if your into that you will really like it, it would have been really cool though if they allowed you to control the drum tempo with the expression pedal, and even let you change the drum banks with the foot pedals... now if they ever get that working you could really be a sweet one man band with this thing so hopefully zoom includes that on the next model... anyway i wanted to give this a 7.5 because the lack of a fade out on patch switching which really is a weakness as far as having the total fx package, but that dont allow decimals so ill up it... i think though this is the pedal to get, you shouldnt spend anymore until you get your first gold record... plus maybe you find out your a folkie at heart and you dont like fx...

they would get a ten if they had the fade out function, but like i said thats really only an issue with a few effects switches... but still i dont like to feel limited... it would get and 11 if it had that drum conrol i suggested as is i would give it and 8.5 but again no decimal so i'll go 8 so as to encourage the zoom engineers to take my suggestions and build in my suggestion
