Easy, very easy! You only find right level and let's work!

Sound Quality : 8
I feel it's more only preamp than tube-preamp. Sound is clear, usable and tube gives little warm with it. For this price is hard to find better "basic sound".

Reliability : 10
I've use it two years in leadvocal with Sennheiser e865 and all the time it have been 100% reliable.

I tried two years ago to find little better preamp than is in our Yamaha 01V mixer for price under 200 euros. And I find. I've use it also for recording wit bass, snare, overhead and vocal. There is many same kind of preamps on the market at this moment but I think this is one of best in that pricerange.

Plug in, turn on, adjust input and output. If this is hard, read no further.

Sound Quality : 8
I like the way it smooth's out the sound of my POD Pro. It makes it less choppy on some of the sounds.

Reliability : 8
I would hate to have to change a tube in this thing. Other than that, nice metal housing.

I emailed with them as to what I wanted to do. Very techincal discussions. Others used this in the configuration that I now use it, so I knew it would work. These two sources worked well to give me what I was looking to understand. They could not talk very simple, but that is not what I was looking for either.

Overall Rating : 8
Buy one and use it. It makes a great direct box or even a nice pre on mic going to a sound board, snake or not. It just does what it needs to very well. dbx made a good choice to make this product.

Able to get clean audio sound, however, the sound is just as clean plugging into the pre on my Behringer MX 802A mixing board.

Sound Quality : 2
Interesting that in the manual that they express how this unit will, "warm the tone"...I didn't hear any warmth at all. And as a matter of fact, even after driving the levels up as high as I could get them, this didn't seem to work either.

Reliability : 5
Sure, it powers up and will drive a signal, but not reliable for creating a superior sounding signal than what I already get out of my cheap mixing board pre.

Customer Support : 10
Very helpful and at the ready. Doesn't matter though, this product is mediocre.

Overall Rating : 2
I think dbx puts out good products, this just isn't one of them. The Mini-Pre just shows how low dbx will stoop to make a dollar.

This unit it dead simple, its only has the following; Gain, Pahse Rev, Phantom, 20dB Pad, and a Output Pot. Simple...

Sound Quality : 9
Amazing, it sounds very similar to my DBX 386 Unit, warm rich tube sound that we all love, without to much added harmonic distortion. This unit specs state that it can add upto 60dB of gain, i wouldnt like to try it unless i wanted the noise with it, but at normal levels its quite as a mouse

Reliability : 7
the unit is very subject to cosmetic wear due to not being in a rack, Also i dont like external wall-wart power supply, it would be easy to unplug it by mistake in performance, mmmmm wall-warts should be banned!!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never Delt with DBX

Overall Rating : 9
Its a nice preamp, DBX need to think about power supply issues, i know wall wart make things cheaper to the end user, but personally id rather pay the extra 20 or so dollars
