2006 Hoppus Jazz Bass, but is actually all P-bass except for the body. Wasn't reel crazy of the one piece pickguard, but it's grown on me. String through body, which is a big plus that most people have seemed to skip over, this is what really separates the Standards from the American Standards in the Fender bass relm. It does only have one volume knob, but tone knobs on p-basses are damn near worthless anyway; if you want a bass with tonal variety, look to something with active electronics, a Music Man Stingray might be a better candidate for you. The neck is a straight ahead Mexican Standard neck. Could have a better bridge and some straplocks, but none of the Mexi's ever do. Gig bag kinda sucks, but a least it came with something.

Sound : 10
I actually have a LP Blue American Standard Precision (one of the last made in that finish) with the same pickup as the Hoppus and I love the sound of the SPB-3's (Quarterpound P pickup). It has more kick then a standard P pickup, but maintains the whole vintage vibe surprisingly well. All a 500k tone pot does is take away from your output, even if the pots turned up to max, I actually use Fender No-Load Tone pots in my other basses to eliminate the tone circuit without completely removing it. The Hoppus has a great springy P-bass sound, great for punk rock or any pickstyle rock. This bass sucks for slapping, but (I feel) so do all P-basses without a bridge pickup of some type. The higher mass of the body and the string through bridge add tons of sustain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Fender's Mexican plant has gotten much better over the years, and I would rank their quality right on par with early 90's American made Fender. The setup is great on it due to the store that set it up. Note to big-box store and eBay buyers: any time you buy a guitar or bass, the action might be bad. This is most likely not the fault of the manufacturer, but the seller or previous owner. I hate it when people buy these things, say the action is horible, but went through the biggest corporations to buy them.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This was bought as a backup to my American Standard P-bass, but is getting about 50/50 use. Like all fenders, the only gripe i really have is in the bridge, but Leo Quan makes a better replacement for these: the Badass III, which I will eventually put on this thing. In Fender's defense, their American Standard series now have a better bridge then the classic Fender bridge.

Customer Support : 10
Anytime I've had a problem with anything Fender, I just took it to a dealer, and they've fixed any problem I've ever had.

Overall Rating : 10
Out of all the Fender Artist Series, this is one of the few that are a great representation of what the astists bass is. The main differences I can tell from the actual basses Hoppus uses is in the necks, and the finishes, but if the Fender Custom Shop were making the ones availible to us; they'd be in the same pricerange as the Clapton Strat. The Hoppus is a great simplified P-bass, plain and simple, but the pickup gives it a bit more power. It may be a bit harsh for some, but it does maintain a vintage quality.

Made in Mexico. Not sure about the year, I got it off E-Bay. 20 frets four strings, pretty standard fare. Maple P-Bass neck with rosewood fingerboard on an Alder J-bass body with one S-D SPB-3 1/4 pound passive P-bass PUP. This one came finished in God awful Daphne Blue. It has strings through the body, with an American bridge plate and Mexican saddles. I was looking for a beater bass to use for some outdoor gigs and some of our more unsavory venues. The lack of tone controls with a single passive PUP is an ideal combination for a war club. I had intended to put something together from various scavenged parts but when I found this one on E-Bay it had everything I wanted (mostly) and was cheaper than I could build myself. It had a very hard previous life, and is missing paint in multiple locations on the body. The neck has some gouges in it, but all in all it turned out to be very playable.

Sound : 8
The 1/4 pound PUP is very caliente!! Great output, and very good tonal clarity. It's a full range pickup for sure. I did a complete set up on it, and strung it with roundwound strings. Holy crap!! It was the clankiest trebliest most wretched sounding POS I ever heard!! I was kind of missing that tone knob at this point. So, I figured if I can't adjust the tone on the bass, I'll just adjust the tone of the strings. I put a set on GHS Brite Flats on and WOW!! This thing is pretty cool. Who needs a freakin tone knob when your bass can sound like this all the time???? It's got a creamy fat warm tone and just the right amount of midrange bite! I bought it primarily for live performance situations, being a beat up piece of crap from the get go and all. It would work for studio recording OK I guess, but I have basses I love a lot more than this bastard stepchild for the delicate work.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
The set up out of the box was horrible!! Just atrocious! I don't know how the guy that sold it to me ever played it. The intonation was way out across the board. I cleaned her up, did a set up on her, and she's just fine now. There is a deep gouge on the lower part of the body that took out a pretty good sized hunk of wood out. It has multiple dings and has obviously been dropped more than once. The head stock is beat up, and the back of the neck has a couple of gouges in it. No neck dive, the balance is very good. It looks like crap. Besides being Daphne Blue it looks pretty bad but it sounds pretty good! The stuff I can see that came from the factory before she got run through the wringer seems about average.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass has lived through a lot already. Is it durable?? Judging from her battle scars, I would have to say yes! It came with straplocks on it. I don't know if that was standard or not, but given the condition it's in, I don't know why it has them. I have used it on several gigs so far (I like it more each time I play it!) and have never had any issues. There is a dead spot at the 6th fret on the G string, but hey its a Fender. With the total lack of options what can go wrong? This thing is a tank!

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's a Fender. If something happens that I can't address myself, I'll put her through a wood chipper and get another beater off of the bay.

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing for 28 years. I'm a bit of a gear snob, but my list of other stuff doesn't matter as far as this revue is concerned. If it were stolen, I'd buy the first cheap P-bass I saw on E-bay to replace it. We're only dating, I don't want to get married to this one.

The Hoppus with Brite Flats has great tone. Lots of punch in the lower registers, and just a wonderful overall sound. The strings make all the difference on these things.

My Hoppus bass is a 2002 model. It has 20 frets, 4 string. Solid top, one piece wood body with a string through bridge. Only has one volume knob, but I dig that. I never use tones knobs... just crank those to 11. Seymour Duncan Basslines Precision pickups. Made in Mexico, I bought it brand new from the store... I actually had to order the bass. I wish I would've gotten the Shell Pink, because its discontinued. I have it in Daphne Blue.

Sound : No Opinion
I play mainly rock and rock oriented music, and this bass works for me wit everything I do. It has a rich, deep sound, but I get that from many years of trying many different head/cab combinations. Also, my strings are kinda old. I have played this bass at more shows than I even know, and I've used it in the studio a bit. This is by far my #1 bass... beating out my Fender Custom Precision.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
It came with Fender strings, which had to go ASAP. I've done a lot of teching for bands and such, so I changed everything about the action and pickups heights, etc. When I got it, it did play amazingly well, but its a bit better now. The only problems I've had are a broken nut, which I replaced, and the knob keeps falling off because of the smooth post. I threw some super glue in it, and it ficked the problem.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
As said earlier, I've played more shows than I know the number of, and this bass has lived. It has gone through numerous tours all over the US, in all kinds of weather climates. I usually throw my basses around a lot, and this bass has certainly taken its share of shit. All of this, and not even any paint chips! Only a few dents here and there from drumsticks and such.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them. I do all my own repairs.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I also own an EB Musicman, a Fender Jazz, a Fender Custom Shop precision, and a few other beater basses. I don't regret buying this bass. If it were stolen, I'd try to find this one and get it back. Years of playing and my own adjustments can't be replaced overnight. It feels amazing to play... smooth neck. I wish I had 2 more of these, exactly set up like mine, and worn down like mine... but in different colors. I dig the black with white pickguard. and having one of those pink ones would be cool too.

my fender mark hoppus bass was made in 2002/2003 according to the serial number, it is the discontinued shell pink colour. Has a jazz bass body with a p-bass neck. One volume, seymour duncan quarter pound for p-bass pickups.

no case as second hand but u get gig bag if purchased new

Sound : 9
its got a gr8 sound i have played so many other basses, musicmans fender jazz's and p's rickenbackers, ibanez but this bass just feels so right everytime i pick her up and play her. really fat p-bass sound, its such a gd live bass big fat tone, turn down ur treble for live though if u like 2 rock out cos it will sound horrible and twangy, but if u play it hard with the treble lower it will give that signature mark hoppus sound, in the studio its sooo nice, comes out fat and trebley just like marks.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
action was gr8 when i got it but it was 2nd hand tho, i had 2 raise the pickup on the e-string a bit tho but that was all, i put rotosound swing bass on it gives it a much better mark hoppus sound or more trebley sound the ernie balls he uses sound crap after a week go dead real quickly and where no wear near as bright as the roto's. solid paint work all tuning pegs pretty solid stays int tune well.

Reliability/Durability : 10
i played this live many times she is solid, needs no backup stays in tune will outlive me fo sure!! i put strap locks on tho for saftey!!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
i been playing about 3 or 4 years now i use an ashdown five fifteen, 15" 100 watt combo and its a brilliant sound suits it well, i would like an ampeg 4x10 or 8x10 tho cos i prefer the tighter sound they give off.

if it where stolen id go and kill the person who did it especially as they stopped making it in pink!! its a gr8 bass, who needs al these amazing features its all about how gd u are at playing it!

Made in Mexico...it is the basic Mark Hoppus signiture bass...it has all the features of a P-bass, minus the tone knob, and a plus is the String Thru Bridge and the J-bass body...I love J-bass bodies more than the BORING P-bass ones.

Sound : 9
Ah the sound...well, it only has one knob and its not for tone, granted that is what I LOVED about it! I hate tone knobs, i basically turn them all the way up (treble) and leave them there, but usually they get in the way and i hit them when i play hard...so that would make me undo the knobs and put them under the pick guard...

I use a Crate amp...its pretty big and it has a built in EQ, so i mess with my tone really always on the amp anyways.

I like my bass to sound more punchier and high on the treble...this bass produces more of a high MID and not treble, but thats ok, cause I adjust on the amp to make it sound more treble-like. With Dull-Old strings the bass can produce a really really good deep bass sound tho.

My music style is Pop-Punk and maybe some harder stuff...the bass in Dropped D sounds really really good. I can play Jazz on it fine and it doesnt sound terrible but I really don't like the super-overpowering bass sound either.

Honestly it can be used really really well onstage. It also has the potential for the studio...cause in the studio you use effects and mixers so it can go both.

Alot of people gripe about the sound...why did you buy it then? I mean it says MARK HOPPUS SIGNATURE BASS...so listen to his music, thats the sound you'll get, if you don't like that sound don't get it, or you can add normal P-Bass pickups or something...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Well...I've had 2 of these basses and the first the neck completly warped and twisted, but I got it off Ebay and who knows what that person did to it, so I wont hold it against it. Now the 2nd one, i got from a friend who owned it since 2002. When i played it with the old strings the setup was perfect...now when i took the old strings off, and applied new ones, the neck bent...right in the middle...so I had to get it adjusted and set up.

Pickups are fine

The finish...well I at first bought the ALL black version, very smooth and cool looking. Then there is the new one i got, the Blue version...basic, boring. The one I really want and I might get mine painted like, is the white body and the black pickguard combo.

Reliability/Durability : 4
This bass has to be one of the most durable basses...especially since there is not alot Inside of it to bang up. Its really really light compared to P and J basses and Musicman basses.

hardware is pretty good.

Finish is really coated well and looks brand new to this day and its 4 years old.

Strap buttons I had replaced with straplocks and I did have the problem with the one near the back end of the bass, it would constantly come out...so I used Gorilla Glue and its in there forlife ha ha.

I actually don't know about dependability, due to the neck issues...i took it in recently to have it adjusted and havent gotten it back yet.

I would use it with no backup...i do care alot about the action. I play it lower. But if it starts to come up, i am not going to stop playing cause of it....i'll just tough it out and then have it adjusted later or sell it. Ha ha

Customer Support : 8
Guitar Center, that's where it was bought at. I give them a A++++++

Sam Ash where it was being resold at, i give the biggest F.

4 year warrenty thru Fender.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for 7 years...I have owned around 25 basses. From my first starter, a Crate Electrica (very nice, has the P-bass body and a J-bass neck...crappy pickups), A ton of squires, 3 P-basses, 1 j-bass, a cheapy rip off J-bass from ebay (Was one of the best, needed a new neck but other than that it was GREAT), and 2 Mark Hoppus basses, and a few Musicman basses.

I either wanted this bass or I wanted a certain musicman, the musicman was too expensive so i got this one, I am happy with it.

If it were stolen, I'd kill the person who stole it, and buy a new one if I couldn't get it back, haha.

I love the simplicity of it. The body shape is a wet dream for me. I really honestly would like this same bass but with a Musicman pickup...that would be amazing!

I love this bass don't get me wrong, and I love blink 182 they are my favorite band of all time, and yeah i listen to more than Pop PUnk too...I just grew up with them and I am linked. The sound I wanted out of this bass however is not really the sound I got though. But I knew that when i bought it. I really bought it for the fact of the hybrid-ness of it. The mixture of J and P bass is excellent, I like P-bass pickups more than the J-bass ones...but...if this bass could have a slimmer J-bass neck and a Musicman pickup, to me it would be the perfect bass, but right now its the closest thing to perfection. The price sucks tho.

made in mexico, 2005, it came with a nice fender deluxe gig bag, string thru body bridge, i got the daphne blue finish and it looks awesome, expecially with the pearloid pickguard, only one volume knobs, but even if it had a tone knob, i wouldnt use it, i dont need it. jazz bass body, precision bass neck, p bass pickups. awesome seymour duncan pickups, sound great.

Sound : 10
it sounds great, id say its good for pretty much any style of music, but definitely good for punk rock kind of stuff, im using it through a fender rumble 100, until i can save up for an ampeg. im not using any effects, but occasionally a light distortion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the bass came set up pretty well, i had to do a little bit of adjusting, just to my person preferences. no flaws in the finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
definitely reliable, i usually gig with two basses to switch for drop d songs, but now i got a pedal tuner to tune quickly, i havent had any problems with it at all, i got straploks for it though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed it

Overall Rating : 9
this is a great bass, great combination between p and j basses. definitely good for my style of music, i play in a punk/alternative band, but i also play in my churches praise band, and it sounds great.

The mark hoppus is not the most decked out bass interms of features but it has all of the neccesary options. It would have been nice to have a tone knob or two but it is not neccesary. The bass lines pickups make up for every thing this bass lacks.

Sound : 9
I use this amp with several different heads from carvin to marshall and it sounds exellent coming out of every one. It has a thick richness backed by raw power that is had to come across. The lows boom and the highs ring. With some amp tweaking and some EQ work this bass can play anthing very well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I have not even thought about touching the action. It is perefect in every way. Even when I bought the amp a few of the salesmen played it and commented the action was perfect. Even when I take it to the store now to try new heads people ask to play it and the first thing they comment on is how well and easily it plays. The only problem was that one of the fret (3rd) was slighty misaligned which made for a bit of buzz on hard plucked long notes. Other than that the fret did not bother me but I got it fixed anyway for a few bucks.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Have had it for almost four years and it plays better than the day that I got it. Every thing can take a beating and on stage the bass has not failed yet.

Customer Support : 9
Have not had to use them for this bass, but in previous experiences fender is relativly painless. I remeber the warranty being pretty standard and nothing special.

Overall Rating : 10
This bass is truly one of a kind and i would never sell it for something else. If this bass was stolen I would by it again, but most likely used. For any style of music this bass is for you. I recommend this bass above all other in the price range and fenders line up. If you have any questions my email is given, feel free to ask.

Pretty straight forward. One piece Alder body, One piece pickguard, one volume knob. I myself did not like the single volume idea, so i had the shop add a tone knob. Plus the one piece pickguard was kind of stupid i thought so i add a control panel.

Sound : 9
Sounds pretty sweet, the sound was pretty cool with the one knob but i wanted more bass in there too, so i added the tone knob and that made all the difference. Sustain is nice since it has the string through body.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
set up was nice. I put some new strings on it when i got it. Fender makes good guitars but lacks in there string department. Other then that everything else seemed fine, nice finish. I would perfer sunburst, but i'm down with Daphnie blue:) I wish the neck were an american neck, but it's alright. The bridge rocks, i'm lovin the string through thing they did with this bass, i hate top loaded briges.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
So far no really major problems, i did have to get the strap buttons replaced, they came loose on me, but this is a mexican made bass. But for a Mexican made bass this things a tank.

This bass is amazin, it has seymour duncan basslines pickups which sound fucking amazing! Also it has a p-bass nieck witch is just so nie 2 play cos its so fat and chunky and there is so much room 2 move. I love the jazz bass body aswell its a lot nicer than the p-bass body, but i hate jazz bass necks and pickups so this is perfect 4 me and its in pink!!!! If u wanna change ur tone just turn ur treble down on ur amp and u get a nice clean sound so its not bad havin no tone knob.

Sound : 10
Sound is the best thing about this bass, it is brilliant 4 all styles of music the sound just fits in perfectly, I have used this live twice and will be using it a lot more times!! It is just so much louder than other basses and its really comfortable 2 play. I have replaced the strap buttons with jim dunlop strap locks cos i can never trust strap locks! I have also used this 4 recording and its sounds amazing aswell (www.purevolume.com/audio32) this shows u can use this bass 4 heavier stuff just than punk, if u listen in the 3rd verse its just the bass and drums that gives u an idea of the sound of this bass!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Mine is second hand as the pink is discontinued nowdays, it was et up perfectly as most well loved second hand instruments are, it had a few minor dings but it didn't affect me buying it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass is brilliant 4 live playin (with straplocks especillay) becasue i never trust strap buttons, u can't physially break bass strings apart from ur g if ur r really careless so theres no worrys there, i have gigged and will continue 2 gig without a backup, i have never had 2 adjust anything on it.

Never had 2 deal with them
