Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: slightly more than stock p/up's -- good output for passive
Tone: humbucker has good warmth with articulation / single has clean, focused tone
Sonic evaluation: Genz Benz 4x10xb with 375 watt 4 ohm head. Also a Peavey 1x15 combo 150 watt head for small gigs and practice. I play a Warwick Dolphin 5 and I used a cheapo JB Player P-Bass copy to test pick-ups on both rigs before upgrading to custom built P-Bass.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Classic/Roots Rock and Jazz -- Pick-ups are ideal for these styles!

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I've been playing bass for 20 years, but more seriously over the past seven years. The last couple of years I've been on a quest for ultimate tone, going through all sorts of basses and gear. (I currently play a Warwick Dolphin 5, JB Player acoustic/electric and P-Bass copy thru a Genz Benz 4x10 cab with a 375 watt GB head.)
I wanted a tone that pleased my ear but also compliments the music I'm playing. Some of the new hot-rod basses I tried didn't fit. So at the suggestion of another player on the web I checked with Larry Pollack at Aero. I was immediately impressed with Larry's knowledge of pick-up technology and his attention to the needs of the player. So I tried a set of his basic humbucker and single without worrying about customizing, and man, am i happy with them!
I put them in a budget bass to test his claim that his p/up's can make a piece of plywood sound good -- and he wasn't kidding! They put the stock EMG Selects to shame. The humbuckers had great warmth without being muddy and the single at the bridge was very clean and focused without being too "poppy". Basically I think I've found the tone I've been looking for! Good full warmth for the rootsy rock I play and a great jaco jazz tone from the single for solos or blending with humbucker to give it more articulation in loud jams. I can't wait to get these in my custom-built P-Bass! They have such good output and presence they really don't need an active pre-amp either. I might even buy a Jazz bass just to put a set of Aero Jazz p/up's in!
I've tried EMG's-boring, Bartolinis-too dark, Carvins-sterile, and others. Of course, these are subjective comments and models vary widely in tone specs along with the components of the bass you install them in. But if you want a custom-tailored tone to give yourself an eargasm, contact Larry and friends at Aero!!!
