Instrument

Installed in a Fender Mexi-Jazz bass. Using this w/ Dimarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups. I wanted a preamp to get a better sound.

Output is massive. This preamp gets the sound out. I am using this through a Kustom 1200HD amp and a Euphonic VL210-B. No effects. The sound is clean and I can go from a high end slap to a nice rounded jazz tone and everything in between. A little goes a long way when turning the knobs. I play jazz/fusion and blues. Suited for both.

I would definitely buy this again if it were stolen. I have been playing for about 29 years and have played just about every bass you can think of. I love the tones that come out of this preamp and not much I can say bad about it, except for putting it together. The schematic was backwards on the blend pot. I couldn't get the thing to work so I bought a new one and it did the same thing. Played w/ the wires and reversed them on the blend pot and it worked. Other than that, the thing is great for me.

You musical style(s): jazz, funk
Reason for pickup change: this on board pre-amp simply adds REAL punch!
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Added Punch, Depth, Highs, Control
Tone: Pounding Bass, Crisp Highs
Sonic evaluation: Warmoth Custom P/J Bass with seymour duncan Quarter Pounders P/J pickups, SWR Head, 2x10 + 1x15 swr cabs with eminence horn. This on board preamp takes time and patience to install, but is well, well worth the effort and $. In passive mode, the instrument sounds weak, with the Aguiar hot, the bass is fat and punchy.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: great for my funk rock and would be excellent for reggae or modern rock

Comments: my fretless has emgs and they are extremely quiet, easy to install and sound great, but the duncans with this on board pre-amp is a excellent match for my funky bass.
