Features
:
This is a matched pair of passive, hand wound (scatter wound) pickups with a Precision type split pickup for the front and a single coil 'Jazz' type for the Bridge end. They are hand made in England (www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk)I believe them to retail at about ??150 new but i am not sure because i got mine second hand.
Instrument
:
My Bass is an old Fender Precision. The Original pickup lost most of its output and had to be changed. I wanted to improve on the sound whilst still retaining some of it's original character so i decided to have the bass restored and routed for a jazz pickup at the bridge. I tried pickup set's by Fender (too clicky) Mighty Mite (Horrible) and Bartolini (Excellent, but too 'Growly'). I had heard about bare knuckles so i took a risk and bought em.

Ernie Ball strings (40G), Fender BXR 300c combo.
From the first note I was delighted, on the precision pickup it sounded just like my original (a 1971)but with ever so slightly more 'fidelity' more zing from the string if you know what i mean. The Jazz pickup reeled in all the lows and compacted them in a way the front pickup cannot possibly do. Output was right for the bass and for my style, soft, rounded, not too Growly or too loud when you whack it. Beautifully tonally balanced across the range. I play rock soul and blues and I had found what i needed ; Tight Bass, soft/bright high end and a thumping percussive middle so you can muddy it up when funking out.. phew..at last!

I would buy these again like a shot.. I have 35 years playing under my belt and I am a fussy old Git about my sound. Always played Fender cos I never found anything i liked more and these pickups are so complimentary to the Rig that I officially declare my search 'Over'!
Top class.
