Features :
Pickup features: Single coil passive
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: '97 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stocks pickups - both neck and bridge
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues and R&B - fingerstyle only - no slap and pop
Reason for pickup change: I found the stock Fender pickups a little muddy in the low end and overly growly/overdriven in the mids.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Much to my surprise I found the Barts to be much lower output than the Fenders. However that was not a problem because I was able to make up the volume at the amp.
Tone: Very clear and very balanced. The Barts did exactly what I looked for. The bottom has much greater clarity and the mids are much better balanced.
Sonic evaluation: I use my Jazz Bass with an Eden 500 watt amp and an Eden 410 cabinet. Its an extremely versatile bass with an extremely versatile amp.I use Thomastik Jazz Flats to round out my tone. The Barts have contributed to the clarity of all this sonic versatility.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Unless you're tring to hide something clarity in tone is good and muddiness is bad..at least in the music and style that I play.

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: Unfortunatly you can't audition the different brands of pickups but I did my homework. I asked a lot of players including the two bass forums I frequent and the Barts seemed to be the one for me. Turned out the advice was right. These pickups are used in a working band bass and they fit what I do perfectly.
