Features
:
Pickup features: Passive Jazz Bass replacements single coil
Impedence or other specs: low impedence
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Jazz Bass
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: stock
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: many use Bartolini's, not many have Hi-A's no longer making them
You musical style(s): rock, blues, country, anything
Reason for pickup change: I was very dissatisfied with the sound I was getting from
the stock PU's through a Peavey Bass head, changing PU's
made a huge difference, but still dissatisfied, changed
heads later - that made the biggest difference but the PU's
persist, sound great!
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot
Tone: wide range with a very deep undertone - heard best on recordings it seems
Sonic evaluation: Using these PU's on Fender Jazz body with Modulus graphite Jazz
replacement neck, stock pots etc. Plugging into a 1974 Sunn
Colesium transistor head (400W in 8ohms) ultra clean & loud thru
custom made cab (to put the very wide head on) with 15" JBL K140
and 2 x 8" upper range speakers. Sounds great!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: These PU's are great for nearly any style as you can get a wide variety of tone depending on the relative voluems of neck vs bridge PU

Comments: I love the sound of these PU's & have had them for twenty
years now.
If these failed, I'd be at a loss to replace them. Here's why...
A recent e-mail discourse with Bill Bartolini about a
possible repair of a cracked casing revealed that this
model was made during a period where the company had
poor testing gear & was a very new company, so he says
the PU's are each unique as far a windings go. He has
offered to replace one if I need to by testing it &
duplicating the response! Now that is service....
