Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: 8/10
Tone: Pretty solid bartolini tone. It's a split coil, so it's basically a reversed p-bass pickup in a soapbar housing. You can pull out some pretty convincing p-bass tones, as well as some nice bassy soapbar tones. .
Sonic evaluation: A much better responce in the low-mid frequencies, and a much smoother top. Round, warm tone. Excellent replacement for a neck position humbucker. On this bass, in addition to removing the EMG HZ's, I ripped out the active preamp.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Rock

Comments: # If it was destroyed or stolen, would you buy it again or get something else?
--Yes, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
# How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own?
--3 years.
# What do you love about it? What do you hate?
--I dig the round and warm tone that it brings to this bass. Much more character than the EMG. Finding one is going to be the only problem, this is a rather rare Bartolini model.
# Did you compare it to other products? Which ones? Why did you choose this one?
--No, the only other option was the typical Bart or EMG soapbar, but I knew I wanted more of a Pish sound.
# Anything you wish it had?
--Not sure what else it could do.
# Are you satisfied with this pickup or still searching for that sound?
--Satisfied it nails the tone I wanted for this bass.
# Anything else you'd like to share?
--If you are looking for a good passive soapbar that has a nice low and low-mid character with a round top, this is your pickup.
