:
Single coil passive pickups, 3.72" long x .72" wide x .80" high, 9.1k ohms. Black with covered poles. They come in reverse wire option as well so you can blend them together to eliminate single coil hum.
Instrument
:
I have them in a Carvin B5 Bolt-on bass (alder body/maple neck and newer bolt-on Carvin active preamp) and in a Carvin LB75 neck-thru bass (Maple body/neck with older Carvin active preamp including mid-boost). I have them in both bridge and neck positions. The B5 came with them in stalled while I replaced the LB75's existing H50N (stacked humbuckers). I loved the sound of the J99s in the B5 and hated the H50N so that's why I switched them out in the LB75.

The output level seems to be amazing. They are very loud pickups. I've had many other basses - Spector ReBop with EMG HZs, Ibanez Prestige w/USA Bartolinis, etc and the J99s are WAY louder than all of them. Granted, that may be due to the preamp as well, but the other basses all had Active preamps as well so there shouldn't be a huge difference I wouldn't think. I have to turn my input gain down on my amp quite a bit to keep these from overloading and clipping the front end of the amp.
The tone is perfect for what I play - alternative rock and hair metal. GREAT rock tone. Power and punch with a full EQ. I run the Treble and Mid flat and add a touch of bass. For the price, they're amazing and I would run them in each and every bass I own. I've tried other more expensive pickups and none have surpassed the J99 Carvins.

They're cheap so if stolen, I could replace them easily. I've been playing guitar for 25 years and bass for 15. I run my basses through a Peavey BAM 2X10 combo (running the SVT model amp and 8X10 cabinet model) into a custom built 2X12 extension cab with 2 Carvin Neodymium speakers.
They're a great replacement pickup - I wholeheartedly recommend them for rock. I don't play slap or jazz so i can't comment, but I've gotten lots of compliments on my sound so it must be decent.

The J99 is a single coil Jazz bass replacement. They are cheap and I think they are wound opposite (neck & bridge) for hum canceling, which was all good. It can be used in either passive or active basses and is designed for 4, 5 and 6 string basses with an effective string spacing width of 3.2". Again, all good.

I put them (neck & bridge) in my '04 MIM Fender Jazz Bass because I was disappointed with the stock pups.

I use a Carvin Pro Bass 100, Ampeg B2, and Ampeg SVT 4 Pro through an Ampeg SVT 410 HLF enclosure. The output of this pickup was even more disappointing than the stock ones. Weak and, well, weak. I play blues, Rock, and R&B. I guess you get what you pay for. I put the stock pups back in and was happier, but am changing to Lindy Fralin's now.

If these pickups were stolen I'd be relieved. Tried to sell them on Ebay, but no takers. I may try to just misplace them. I've been playing for many years and should have known better. I put a Badass II bridge on this bass and I guess I just got carried away.
