Perceived output level: VERY HOT- will overdrive any amp if turned full on
Tone: really good
Sonic evaluation: This is the older model Carvin bass humbucker they used for several
years before going to single coils. It looks just like their guitar
pickups. It came stock on my Eastern hardrock maple LB-40 bass
purchased new in August of 1983. I use it with a Carvin 150 watt PB-
150 solid state amp and 1x15 cab with Electrovoice speaker. The pickup and bass are perfect for my needs. I cut the bass and treble
and set the mids for 380-400 Htz and boost them 80%. The tone is deep
but clear and cuts through very well. The pickup will overdrive any amp to distortion so I never turn full up. I find the split coil
option basically useless- it just cuts the vol and thins the sound. I would describe the sound as deep, clear, perscussive and "woody".

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This is a one pickup bass. I play rock and fill in on country sometimes.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I have been totally satified with the sound since 1983. The pickup is no longer available. Why don't conmpanies put out more humbucking bass pickups these days? This is my only bass and I have no intention
of buying another or changing this one. I could do without the coil splitter switch.
