Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking, passive, neck position, adjustable poles on both coils
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Epiphone EB-0
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock Sidewinder pickup
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Rock
Reason for pickup change: Muddy, powerless sound from stock pickup

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Loud, clear and punchy
Tone: Good all-around tone, not too muddy and bassy, highs are well defined, mids are smooth. Balanced.
Sonic evaluation: I'm really a guitar player, but I got an Epiphone EB-0 bass recently to dabble with, and possibly record my own demos. The bass was cheap (bought it used) but not cheaply made, even though Korean. Good sustain and playability. The stock pickup, however, was muddy and unresponsive. Notes would fart out too much on the E string.
The Model One is a bass position humbucker. This bass uses only one pickup. It's history is Jack Bruce, Andy Fraser, etc. so think about that deep bottom end, not clean and punchy like a good J-bass or P-bass. I like this bassy tone, but needed more headroom, more punch, more bite, since I'm using a small Hartke amp.
I got what I was looking for. The Model One retains all of the deep tone of the classic EB-0, but adds more top end to cut through a mix and liven up a small amp. I'm sure it's even better through a big amp.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play rock with this bass, nothing else. I'm sure this pickup would be pretty good for jazz too, but would need to be installed on a better instrument.

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: I like the sound from this pickup, and I'm going to keep it in my EB-0. My only complaint is that the Model One is very flat, and I have to raise the poles higher to get close enough to the strings. Also, it only comes in black, which doesn't look too bad against the cherry red body but just isn't as classy as chrome. Minor niggles.
Overall, it's a good replacement pickup for this kind of bass. I generally prefer Seymour Duncans, but Duncan doesn't have a model that fits this position. For my purposes (as I said I'm not claiming to be a bassist) it does the job much better than the stock Korean pickup.

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Custom

Pickup being replaced: -
Other pickups on guitar: none believe it or not.
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Punk, Grunge, heavy Stuff, anything.
Reason for pickup change: -

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Same as a mates Mexican Precission.
Tone: Really bassy & woody (in a good way). Would be great for fretless.
Sonic evaluation: At the moment this is the only pickup in my bass. It is designed to work with other pickups eg precission or jazz. Mine is smack bang ib the middle of the body. It would sound wicked with a J pickup at the bridge. The Model one has all the bass you need but lacks punchy mids and highs (although the highs you do get sound really sweet). Apparently some players have this pickup run to a separate amp with a 18" speaker. Im pretty sure Yamaha have a guitar that uses it with 2 outputs.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable:

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: If it was stolen I probably wouldnt replace it because it doesnt really suite my playing style. Its one of thopse pickups that you add if you really want to add rich and sweet bottom end to your sound. I think they are a tad expensive new. As I said before, great for fretless. On its own it sounds very accousticy. I like it but it doesnt suite my playing style.
