Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Customized Samick B2
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock P/J set
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: ?
You musical style(s): Pop, Jazz
Reason for pickup change: Wanted a good set of Jazz pickups

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Slightly more hot than stock
Tone: Very full-range, no weak spots, great bass end.
Sonic evaluation: Basically a Samick B2 neck and a custom koa/alder body (beautiful), using the stock Samick active electronics. The neck figerboard is a plastic composite, some friends claim it's graphite.
I originally used D'Addario .045-.105 strings on this, and they sounded very weak, with a kind of hole in the upper bass frequencies that another reviewer mentioned. On the advice of a friend, I put on a set of Dean Markley Will Lee strings. What a difference! Amazing response and tone, subtlety and power. Not that the D'Adarrio's were bad strings, necessarily, but they just didn't work with this body, neck and pickups

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play Jazz and pop/rock. The Dimarzios are made in heaven.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: At only $50 a pop, these are a great buy. I had a Bill Lawrence P-Bass in the old Samick body and was fairly impressed with it, and if I had money to throw around I'd like to try a set of his Jazz pickups just out of curiosity. Can't imagine them sounding much better, though.
I play through a home-built 4-band preamp and a Nanoverb(light "Hall" setting) into a 250 watt MOSFET power amp. Been messing around with guitar about 30 years and am just starting to learn to play bass halfway profficiently after building them off and on for about ten years.

Features :
Pickup features: Passive, stock replacment, a quite single coil
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Fender (Alvarez), Jazz Bass, Fretless
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Both stock Asian Fender pickups and guts (total rewiring)
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Praise and Worship, Contemporary Christian, Christian Rooted R&B, Jazz
Reason for pickup change: Needed better response across the spectrum

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Well balanced Low/Mid/High, increased output. But the stocks were so bad anything would have sounded better.
Tone: Replaced the pots with 500K (not 250K), so the highs wouldn't go to ground, stock capacitor
Sonic evaluation: I play through a PA, however I do have an old Sunn 2000S, a 60's Bassman and a Carvin PB200. The increase in mids and highs were a bit unnerving at first but after I played with my onboard controls and amp settings I have figured it out. It took a couple of weeks to realize that I didn't have to roll the tone down to get muddy. I just play through the neck position P/U and roll the tone down about midway. The P/U's are really nice. They have upped the ante on the mids and highs and strengthened my sound an appreciable amount. I am used to the differences (which ARE NOT subtle) and at first it was almost as if I had an active set onboard.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Christian contemporary to Christian R&B, great rythmn section with seasoned keyboardist and drummer, assertive in your face Gospel/Funk/R&B

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I would have to make another bass, in the Fender Jazz tradition. I would definately use the DP149's again, they are stunning in performance and quality.
