Features

The Select pickups were designed by EMG. These pickups are SINGLE-COIL pickups with a RW/RP neck pickup. When both pickups are full-up they have a hum-cancelling effect. Each pickup consists of a single blade magnet that covers the length of the pickup, and has a shielded coaxial cable. These are passive pickups. The resistance of the pickups are about 6.5 k-ohms to 7.0 k-ohms.

I am using the passive Select jazz bass pickups in a Johnson (by AXL) jazz bass. The original pickups in the Johnson were NOT hum-cancelling and plenty of noise could be heard all of the time. I am using these pickups because I was curious to see how they sounded.

The output level of these pickups are slightly more than normal jazz bass pickups. The amp I use most of the time is a 1995 Nemesis NC-210 combo amp with 200 watts @ 4 ohms. The amp sounds great if you set the "Enhance control knob at 9 O'clock."
On 06/14/2009, I installed 500 k-ohms pots for the volume, volume and tone controls. The sound of the pickups were as follows: The Bass = 6, Midrange = 6, and Treble = 5. I bought these pickups on 02/07/2005, and installed them in my bass using the original 250 k-ohms pots for volume, volume and tone controls. The sound of the pickups were as follows: Bass = 6, Midrange = 7, and Treble = 3. These pickups are NOT as percussive as the Fender jazz bass pickups. They are strong, with fullness, and work great for finger-style grooves.

For the price, I probably would buy these pickups again. I have been playing guitar and bass for 35 years. I think these pickups work best when used with 500 k-ohms pots for the volume, volume and tone controls on a jazz bass.
