Features :
Active Humbucker, can be used with 9-18V
Low Impedance

Instrument :
I'm usinging it on a homemade 6-string neck-through frettless in the bridge position along with a 45P in the neck position, trying to get the Les Claypool "Rainbow Bass" sound. It is being run on an 18 volt system through an EMG BTC preamp then a Nemesis 2X10.

Sound : 9
This pickup is amazing. It has very clear and punchy lows as well as quite a bit of treble. It really does sound like the Rainbow Bass. At times this pickup can be too hot (well...it's an EMG), but this can be compensated for by cutting the treble on the preamp as well as on my rig. The mids sound good, but I usually rely on the 45p for the thick sound (which is really nice). The DC works well for finger picking, slap, and flamenco strumming, but also sounds good through effects (Q-tron, Micro-synth, wah, and fuzz).
I should mention that there was one major problem with this pickup on my setup. When I first put the installed the pickups, the DC distorted really badly when I played the B and E string. The EMG tech department told me to fix this by changing my volume pot, lowering the pickup, and getting lighter gauge strings. This worked, but it also reduced the output of the pickup so it is not as evenly balanced with the 45P. This could just be a problem that is unique to my bass, and I doubt a professionally made bass would have these problems.

Overall Rating : 9
If anything happened to it, I would purchase a new one immediately. I have been playing for 8 years and this is by far the nicest sound I have ever been able to get. It does require a lot more current than most other active pups, but so far, battery life hasn't been a problem.

Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking, Active
Impedence or other specs: Low Impedance

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Washburn XB-600
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Neck and Bridge
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Gospel, Jazz, Funk
Reason for pickup change: Lack of definition in tone of factory pickups.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: More than the average pickup
Tone: Most versatile tone I've ever heard.
Sonic evaluation: Using a Washburn XB-600 Bass (heavily altered: Hipshot Bridge EMG Preamp (18-Volts). I'm also using a Roland DB-500 Bass Amp.
Lots of Lows, focused mids, as much treble as you would ever need.
I would like to know what a different combination of pickups would sound like in my bass but, I am very pleased with my new tone. My factory pickups sounded dead and dull compared to the EMGs.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Gospel, Jazz & Funk. These pickups are suitable for any position.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: If they were destroyed I would buy another set immediately. The only problem I had was because I play a six string bass these are special order pickups and I had to wait 14 weeks to get them but, they were well worth it.
