Overall Rating : 10
Comments: Well I have an active eq Ibanez BTB which is great sounding and also a Ric with a seymour duncan hotrail bridge pickup, which is also great....the problem I had was that the edge sound was never achieved ...on the the two other either were too trebly or too bassy...the EMG solved it all...I also connected it to EMG BQC which are the Bass/Treble and Middle .....and used 18v configuration
Sounds absolutely GRRRReat
Also they are so easy to connect...

Features :
Pickup features: Active dual-coil humbucking soapbar-style
Impedence or other specs: Work best with EMG BTC or BTS Control @ 18 volts

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: G&L L-5500, L-2000, and Epiphone Thunderbird
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: Replaced stock pickups in T'bird.
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: Dave Ellefson of Megadeth (Modulus puts them in at the factory)
You musical style(s): Anything that grooves and pays. Mostly rock/metal at this time.
Reason for pickup change: The L-5500 came with them. The most incredible tone I have yet to hear. The T'bird needed help, of course. Passive is not for me. I've been using these pickups since 1993. I try to keep an open mind about equipment and try everything out that I can. Just because I use it doesn't mean it's the best. But I haven't tested any pickups that are as versatile, clean, and responsive as these things. I recommend mating them with the BTC or BTS Control using the 18 volt setup. You can move buildings.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: The hottest bass pickups I've ever played!
Tone: Sounds the way bass should sound. I've gotten high-profile gigs just because of my tone!
Sonic evaluation: G&L basses(ash bodies, maple necks), Epiphone T'bird, Peavey T-Max head(500watt tube preamp), 2 Peavey 410TXF cabs, no effects, just Alesis compression and top-of-the-line Nady wireless.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Pantera to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beatles to Gov't Mule, and everthing in between. Both pickups, volume wide open, bass and treble to suit.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: Nothing else that I've tried has the response and just plain ol' kick- in-the-ass tone like these things. For me, money is not that big of a deal, so I've tried just about everything. The minute I combined the EMGs with a tube pre-amp and a smidge of compression, I played maybe 3 or 4 notes and knew I would be searching no longer for that elusive tone!
