Comments: I've only had these pickups for 1 week and already like them a lot more than my barts. I bought the brightest p/j barts from their website,8SU[p]and 9JL4[j]respectively. Overall I think the barts were slightly warmer, but being that I ordered Bright, I thought they would have more clarity than they did. The bartolini's seemed to color my bass' original sound, which I felt the aria's original pups did not[loved sound of aria's pups, but way too noisy!].
The sound I always wanted was remniscent of Billy Gould's aria pro on their early albums[The Real Thing and Introduce Yourself],not his later, darker sound[Zon bass w/Barts].
I had Bill Fels at Guitar Factory advise me on replacement pups, as I wasn't happy w/barts. EMGs gave me that top-end punch I always wanted.
I've seen people refer to emgs as "sterile". Yes, your bass' sound, nice and clear, not with "colored" sounds[bartolini].
I found the original sound of my Aria's pickups, except they are much, much better.
Overall the barts sounded good also. Just not my sound.
Just one week w/EMGs and BQC three band eq preamp and already I love them 10x more.YEAH!
For my !@##$%$%@%@!!!! loooong search for FNM's early bass tone,[don't forget to add a pinch of distortion!] I'll give em a nice big "10".
BARTS ANYONE?
