Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Seems to be about the same output level as MIM pickups
Tone: Jazz bass growl, clear mids and lows, crisp highs
Sonic evaluation: I use a Trace Elliot AH200 amp head with a Sunn 1x12/1x18 cabinet. The tone is comparable to my MIA Jazz, with perhaps a bit more low end (which is mostly due to the differences in body wood).
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play mostly rock music, and these pickups suit the style perfectly. In fact, I use this bass for everything.

Comments: Buying pickups is always tough, but based on what I have heard and what I want, these pickups are what I wanted. Vintage jazz bass tone. I will msot likely use these pickups in my other Jazz basses.
Note: The pickups really didn't come with a comprehensive wiring diagram, and I did a lot of searching to find the right diagram on the web. The pickups include shield plates (which I had never seen before), and if they aren't hooked up right the pickups with not work. Also, MIM Jazz basses (made before 2001) use the same pickups in both the neck and bridge positions. American made Jazz basses have a slightly longer Bridge pickup (that is also wound different). Installing these pickups in a Mexican Jazz with require sanding the bridge pickup route a bit on either side. If someone has these pickups, and needs a little assistance during installation, drop me a line and I will be happy to help.
