Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Mid-level
Tone: Balanced lows mids & highs
Sonic evaluation: The output is too weak for serious overdrive. Sustain is lacking. Doesn't sound too bad when used clean. Certainly not as gritty or meaty as standard Les Paul fare.
However when used in the out-of-phase/split combination with the AS1 middle pickup, the tone is exquisitely clean and thin. You get the 80's strat bouncy springy sound, but far smoother with a deeper mid scoop and better highs and lows. Depends on what your favorite flavor is whether you like it that way or not.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable:

Overall Rating : 4
Comments: I really like the out-of-phase combo, but the humbucking overdrive sound is too weak for rock - this pickup has to go.
