Features :
I have Nordstrand Fatstacks that are wired for single coil and hum-canceling. They are used in conjunction with an Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp, and wired for 18volts.

Instrument :
I installed the Fatstacks in a Schecter Stilleto Elite 5. These replaced EMG HZ's that came with the bass. I installed them in the neck and bridge positions. I wanted more presence out of my bass. It's neck through and warm sounding, but didn't have that attack I needed. The Fatstacks provide the tone and attack I've been after for years. Once I added the new electronics, the bass came alive. It has a high-end sound. I'm very pleased!

Sound : 10
The tone is out of this world. The only way I can describe it is it has that "Smith" sound to it... The Fatstacks switched to single coil, give this bold, distinct tone that is amazing. These pickups are right for all playing styles (especially s&p).
Pickups are completely balanced, with very little noise. They were a custom job, and Nordstrand did an excellent job.
I play Contemporary Gospel, R&B, Jazz, MPB and the Fatstacks are perfect for all the genres.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm not planning on spending $5000 on a Ken Smith... no need. If my bass was stolen, I'd buy another and make the same electronic changes.
I've been playing for 10 years. Gear I own is
Ampeg SVP-Pro Preamp, Ampeg BSE 410H, Ampeg PR 410HLF, BBE Sonic Maximizer 362.
I'm so satisfied with these pickups I want to order more and buy another bass to put them in. Nordstrand has opened the door; now professional, high-quality, pickups are available for anyone. Electronics is the key to ANY bass sounding good. The Aguilar Preamp/Nordstrand Fatstack combination is to die for...

Features :
These pickups are stacked units. Like P90 width jazz bass units with the dual polepieces for each string twisted through 45 degrees.

Instrument :
I installed the units in my Sei Bass SInglecut 5 string fretted bass. The units were housed in mahogany covers with cocobolo tops (with the "twisted polepieces" exposed.

The instrument has 2 units in place. I wanted to use something different from what is usually available. I like the direct tone of jazz bass units, but sometimes find the sound of a solo-ed pickup rather "nasal". So, I reckoned these units would give me a greater depth of tone due to the larger "speaking length" of the vibrating string that would be read by the pickup's magnetic field.

Sound : 10
The sound of these units are really full, while still retaining all the "bark & bite" you need. the stacked format doesn't seem to bleed off any of the top end either which was a very pleasant surprise when I got round to trying them out.

I have used the units on gigs from small bars to 3,000 seater venues and they have always cut through the mix and have gained quite a few positive comments and enquiries from sound engineers and other players.

Overall Rating : 10
Fabulous units - well recommended!!!! I am having another bass made as I write and will be using the Nordstrand units once again as I can't see anything else getting close to this sound.
