Sonic evaluation: I am changing my older review, as I have made changes to the PU wiring.
After 7 months, I have now eliminated the OBP-1 preamp, the pu's are both running on their own internal preamp. The pots are the 25Kohms wired with two volumes and 1 tone.
Is very important that the circuit is powered at 18 volts (alkaline batteries).
The addition of the second battery and the pots impedence and removing the preamp made really blossom the pickups and show their real talents.
They are superbly balnced in output, they feels very natural and smooth, like a mixture between modern smooth control and vintage charachter, muddiness is absent, the instruments just sings with a tuneful woody and sustained tone. The palette of tones achieved with the 2 volume controls its very articulate and useful.
I think is also important to mention the the Schaller bridge combined with the Rotosounds add to the very good results.
Before I tried the Optima Gold and Chrome, DR Low riders, La bellas Hard rockin steel and Fender 7150.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: every style including slap

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: These pickups are very honest but classy at the same time and will survive fashion.
Gonna buy them again in the future.

Perceived output level: moderate
Tone: Bright clear and balanced, sensitive,
Sonic evaluation: They possess clarity, sort of "acustic" timbre. Kinda hifi-ish with just a tad of bite, quick with ooomph. Really
Quite sensitive to strings qualities, and wood, will enhance weakness if there are.
These can just work by themself, but a pre really helps.
So the Aguilar obp-1 was fitted afterward that is a very clean but powerful lower bass boost.
The rest of tone shaping is really down to what you can manage with the type of amp and strings.
I am happy. But if these were lost or stolen I would just go and buy a SEI BASS Guitar

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: latinfunkrock fusion

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Comments: Finding both pu heights to almost an exact value is crucial to their good performance or also to suit indivdual taste.
I am unable to give direct comparization with stock Fenders. But if you are after a sort of a ready hot-rod sort of sound, you maybe better off with other models.
