Output is fairly high, not as much as soapbars or precision pickups but still up there. Signal goes into a stereo chorus pedal into two preamps then into a power amp which feeds the cabinets. I've spent a lot of time and money trying to get the best possible bass tone for my tastes. I've found that using only one preamp, I can't accomplish this, which is the reason I use a Demeter and an Ampeg.
The pickups are dead quiet and are fairly bright and articulate on the Jazz bass with its combination of the badass II bridge, alder body, DR hi-beams, and brass nut. I oil down the neck pretty frequently to try to counteract the brightness but it's still an awesome sound. Great for a lot of different styles and playing with the tone control can yeild a lot of useful tones. This wasn't true of the passive pickups I played with before.

I love Duncan's Basslines pickups and use them on 2 of the 3 basses I own. They seem to be a mix of EMG's hi-fi sound and Bartolini's warmth. EMG's tend to make everything sound the same and Bartolini's are great but I like the clarity of Duncan's more. I'd definitely recommend this pickup to everyone of all styles.
