Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Pretty loud, even for active pickups, and Puncheeeee
Tone: Whatever you want, I think Crisp, or Piano like are the best description
Sonic evaluation: I play various basses. I use a Tubeworks(now Genz Benz) 300w 1x15 combo with a Zoom 506 floor processor. And I use a Fender 4x12 guitar cab as an extension. I'm working on getting an Ernie Ball Audiophile, but that's neither here nor there.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: These pickups can do it all

Comments: Buy it again? Hell Yes! but they don't make this style any more so I'm thinking of going back to the store and getting the last set they have, just in case. I've been playing guitar/bass for 6 years, but music for 11. I currently have 3 basses in gigging condition, the one with these pickups is a project bass and isn't finished yet(I just put the pickups in to try them, and now I don't want to take them out), the 5th is "under construction". I love the fact that I have total tonal control. I installed a SD 3-band EQ and there isn't anything that I can't do. Vintage P-bass? Sure. Vintage Jazz? No Worries. Music Man? You got it. Funk? Easy. Heavy Metal? Damn Right. I didn't compare it to anything before hand, but with Seymour's 21 day exchange policy I figured I can't lose. I do have a P-J set of EMG's. Just the regular kind, not select or anything special. I like the versitility of these better. I'm a bit of a control freak. Wish it had? Well I had the old catalog and it has them pictured as having 3 switches but the only ones I've ever seen just have 2. I'm done searching for the sound I want. I just want some more. So over all they're a great buy. Only problem is that SD stopped production of these and replaced them with pickups that have no switches. So my advice to you is if you find some in a shop(that's what I did, I called around to see if anyone had some old stock), BUY THEM. If you don't like them I'LL BUY THEM FROM YOU. Seriously. But I don't think you'll want to sell them. If you find any and get them email me and tell me how much you like them.
