Features :
single coil SD replacement for 60's fender jazz bass pickups, but hotter output! passive, 8.5ohm neck, 9ohm bridge.

Instrument :
Fedner MIJ 75 reissue!
Neck & Bridge position!
set of Lindy Fralin, you say what?? explain later why?
none.
??
blabace, LF pickups sound great, but some notes within the scale are harsh or weak!

Sound : 10
better balanced, little more output, they are little hotter then LF singel coil. sound is great nice over all sound, I recorded the FL then SD after install and they sound close in simular in tone but the SD cut little more in the mids and the frq are more balanced.
I will try the LF in my USA jazz bass to see if it had better balance as the body has little more weight, and also as each bass has it's own tone.

Overall Rating : 10
I got them on e-bay $40 for the set, used but in great condition! Yes I would buy them again. I have EMG in my '02 fender american JB, they sound Ok but little robotic. Dimarzio DP 123 in my fender '94 MIM bass, they sound vintage, fat bottom, and well round tone! but I just wanted too try something diffrent in my fender '75 reissue JB, and I more then happy with the SD SJB-1.

Reason for pickup change: Dissatified with string balance from stock pickups, have owned several mid seventies jazz's and they have all presented the same problem.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Certainly louder and less noisy than originals.
Tone: Balanced, can get edgy if pushed, more bass end than people expect. In other words a jazz bass sound.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: From rock to jazz to folk......usable for most styles of music dependant on player versality of course.

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: If stolen, yes I would buy em again, makes my bass sound the way its supposed to (Fender take note please.)Improved tone whilst retaining the jazzbass vibe.No offense, but if you can't get a usable tone (especially slap!)from these pickups using modern equipment like Hartke then maybe you should go back to bassics(sic)and address your technique.

Features :
Pickup features: Two passive single coil pickups, humbucking when used together.
Impedence or other specs: It's been too long ago to remember, now.

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Fender Jazz Bass
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Fender Stock
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: ????
You musical style(s): Indie/PROG
Reason for pickup change: The Fender stock pick ups blew so I changed the both of them
in hopes that Duncans would make me sound like NoMeansNo...
I'm such a loser, aren't I?

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Probably about 25% more output than the old stock pickups.
Tone: Neck is bassy, bridge is almost too punchy and bright. Together they balance well, but yield that odd two pick up tone.
Sonic evaluation: I've used these with several amps. Currently, I'm using it out of MESA 400+ that sounds fnatastic. The pickups sounded great out an old
SVT, as well. I have decided that I don't care for the jazz bass sound anymore BUT, I noticed a MAJOR difference in clarity and a noticeable low end response when I took out the old stock pickups. It sounded terrible before that.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: These pickups are great if you want to sound like the Jesus Lizard or Shudder to Think. I imagine the pickups would probably be crappy in the middle position... but I have never done that. They stay VERY clean and retain the J Bass sound even with lots of gain.

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: If you're looking for a good set of jazz bass replacments, get these. They're much better than Fender's stock pickups. I certainly wouldn't buy them again, but that's only becuase I've grown to prefer P bass pickups. I love the CLARITY, but hate the single coil tone. I chose Duncans because the repair tech I used was awesome and he recommended them. When I first got them, I was incredibly happy. Also, these pickups are slightly bigger than your standard jazz bass pickups so if you don't want to cut into your own bass, take it to tech for installation. You probably won't be able to buy them and then just switch them out with your old pickups...
